W540 Backlit Keyboard Issue

I got my W540 recently and my specifications say "Keyboard KYBBL with NumPad US English".
But when I try Fn+space bar there is not light from the keyboard.
I thought KYBBL means keyboard with back light, can anyone confirm this or is there any way to turrn this on.
And I thought backlit is a default on W540 machines.

Hello!
The backlit keyboard is default in markets such as the US, but in other markets, such as the UK f.e, you have to select it specially when customizing your machine. The light icon on the space bar does indeed only come on the backlit boards. Those without backlight don't have it. You might just have gotten the wrong board on your machine, so I'd check with the seller and get it replaced.
Does your machine come from Lenovo directly?
Cheers!

  • Backlit keyboard issues

I am having issues with my keyboard such as just a couple of keys are not working and it will not light up after installing the new windows 10. I am not sure if the new windows version has anything to do with the issue or not but I decided to go back to the original windows version but nothing with the keyboard has changed, can you please give me the correct model number for my pc to replace the keyboard or let me of anything I can do to troubleshoot the issue?  HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PCModel #: B4T70UAR

Me, too! That's the plan. OK here goes: insert the gray PB disk, probably a DVD, if you have not updated your OS from a newer disk. I updated to Tiger so I use that disk not the gray system disk that came with my PB. Restart, holding down the "C" key. At the first "page" choose your language. When that is finished go to the bar at the top and click on "utilities" and scroll and click, Disk Utility. After it has started and found your hard drive you have two test options. I run the verify and repair permissions utility first and the "verify" and repair disk second. I try to run these 2 tests at least once a week. I also use Disk Warrior once a week as well as on a "as needed" basis. By this I mean, I recently experienced A) losing 36GB on my 40 GB iPod and B) erratic behavior on my PB, which showed up on the second test in Disk Utility as a "Volume that needs repair." Fixed. Now when I update iTunes, rebuilding my Library, and subsequently transferring the updates to my iPod, I have found that both hard drives are fragmented, as indicated by the "Graph" function on Disk Warrior. Knock wood, both hard drives have been running smoother than ever. I bought the PB in January 2004 and the iPod in August 2004. It may seem like overkill (or perhaps paranoia), but this is my second HD on the PB, as well a a new logic board, both times not under warranty or Apple Care, out of pocket, and my third replacement iPod, I got smart and bought Apple Care. Let me know. I'm pulling for you.

  • Backlit Keyboard Issue?

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, but when I am in a very well lit area my Keyboard stays lit. With my previous MBP it shut off in the light setting. I have the setting checked illuminate keyboard in low light settings but it stays illuminated in great light setting. Any Ideas as to what I need to do?

I installed Lab Tick. You can manually control the lighting.

  • Acer R13 Ghosting and Backlit Keyboard Noise - Return worthy?

Same stupid sound at night. Also cant disable that auto keyboard backlight disabler function, really annoying. Please fix that!Bios 1.09 core i5-5200 120gb ssd FullHD Acer R13 Windows 8.1Acer Aspire R7-371t-55XH

Hi, I bought an earlier R13 (Haswell i5, FHD screen) on sale. Thankfully, with the BIOS update the keyboard typing experience, while not perfect, is more than manageable for me so far. My two issues: 1) Upon setting up, I selected a darker color for the Windows menu background. When I switched to this, I notced a wide, fuzzy rectangular box-shaped area around the inside of the screen that was somewhat lighter in color, and two of the buttons on the screen left a ghost image within this shape while the system continued with setup. Worried about the ghosting issue noted elsewhere in this forum, I tried an image retention test found online and sure enough the checkerboard image stayed visible on the edges of the screen when I switched to grey. It returned to normal operations swiftly after that.  2) I have also experienced the high-pitched whine with the backlit keyboard on maximum. This is not audible on the lower setting or when it's off. It's very quiet, but nonetheless it's still there. Is this a common problem? Are there people out there who HAVE this issue but are okay with it? Given that the device is practically silent otherwise (that fan is darn near whisper level when it IS on), it's a minor but nonetheless present annoyance.
I can still return this unit - *should* I, and what's likely to happen if I don't?
I'm in the middle of evaluating the machine to see if it fits my needs. The form factor is amazing, and comiong from a home and workplace filled with Windows 7 machines Windows 8.1 was much easier to handle than I thought (and with W10 on the horizon I can only imagine it getting better). These two issues are the standouts for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Where is the backlit Keyboard?

I got the Lenovo Flex 2 14'' 2 in 1 laptop today. It says on the computer screen on the sticker that it has a Backlit Keyboard (optional). I cant find anything on the compter to turn it on or cant find any help online. Please help !

Good day and welcome to the community.
I believe that 'optional' means that some models have the feature, while others do not.
Can you confirm that your machine is supposed to have the feature?
    Regards.

  • Backlit keyboard and trackpad questions

I tried Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and it works really well, but I encountered a few issues nontheless:
    1. Even when I turn the backlit keyboard all the way down, it's not completely off. How can I make it turn completely off?
    2. Is there a way to make the scrolling via two fingers more "controlable"? I checked the prefs for the mouse and, among other things, changed the speed of the pointer, but I couldn't find anything related to the speed of two-finger-scrolling. Also, double clicking with two fingers doesn't always work as well as it should.
    3. Lastly, are there any apps out there that makes support for the three-finger-swipe work in Windows 7? I've really become used to this wonderful feature and I would be sorry to not have it
    Hope you can help me.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    1. This problem will endure until Apple releases bootcamp support for w7. There are many issues regarding backlit kb settings(e.g. yours, and also not being able to turn it on at all).
    2. The same
    3. Try avoiding looking for third-party app for three finger functionality, wait for BC update only. Apple knows its hardware and writes good software that will enable those operations.
    cheers,

  • MBA 11" backlit keyboard no longer lighting automatically

The backlit keyboard on my MBA 11" is no longer responding to the "automatically illuminate keyboard in low light" option in System Preferences. I can control the backlights manually with F5 and F6, but they don't come on automatically in the dark (easily testing by covering the camera).
Originally, the F keys would even be completely inactive, with a line appearing across the on-screen brightness display to say the control was on automatic, but that doesn't happen any more.
I have reset the SMC, but that has changed nothing. The automatic brightness control on the display works fine.

I am replying to my own post, as I don't see a way to edit it.
While researching this issue further, I found a "work-around" from a user called Golden Shoes - where the creation of a .css file is decribed in expert, easy to follow detail.  This worked perfectly, and I have since infected my other toys with this fix for Safari zoom levels...

  • T430s and Backlit Keyboard FRU... is it possible?

Got my T430s today. Has the new keyboard BUT doesn't have the backlit feature. Hmm....
Is it possible to swap out the keyboard with one that does (like the one on the T430)?  Does anyone have any experience and/or FRU that works? I loved the dual light levels and the backlighting better than the overhead option.
    Cheers,

    Good day.
I don't know if the T430 keyboards are interchangeable with the T430s, but you could compare the FRU P/Ns found in each model's Parts Listing. Or, you could just source a T430s backlit keyboard using the appropriate P/N. The keyboards are CRU.

  • Keyboard with large bright characters could be cheap substitute for backlit keyboard

A non-backlit keyboard with large, high-contrast characters could be a cheap substitute for a backlit keyboard. Most Chromebooks have tiny characters with less than maximum contrast. It would cost no more to give them legible keyboards that could be used in poor light. The first image shows a Chromebook keyboard (not an Acer) compared with the same with large-letter stickers applied. After I applied the stickers, I could type 40% faster in good light and twice as fast in poor light. (Note: I have average vision.)                        Next is the Acer C720 Chromebook keyboard. It has better contrast and slightly larger characters than most of the new inexpensive Chromebooks, but it's still difficult to type on in poor light.             A keyboard made with the design below would be clear enough to be used in a dark room by the light from the screen.

That's a REALLY good reason, bigbear.  I get it, and thanks for explaining.  I certainly was not trying to imply that there is some kind of 'issue' with adding a more visible keyboard.  It is certainly NOT a violation of anything to plug in an external keyboard.  That is probably the best solution that you have available at this time.  But if you are suggesting replacing the internal keyboard on your laptop with a 3rd party keyboard, that could become a problem.  First, as you described, it is not a task for the faint of heart.  You'd have to find a keyboard that FITS in your laptop, and they are certainly not all the same.  And as you also describe, the disassembly and reassembly process for a laptop can be quite complex.  If you cause damage in the process, that would NOT be covered by your warranty.  We call that 'Customer Induced Damage' and it just isn't covered.  It's an 'at your own risk' situation.  Adding stickers to the key caps is also not a problem for your warranty, unless of course the attempted removal of the stickers causes you to pop some of the keys off and you can't get them re-attached.  That again is considered CID.
Having said all that, as I indicated earlier in this thread, the idea for bigger, better marked key labels has been submitted to our design team for consideration.  MY vision certainly isn't perfect either, so I do understand where you are coming from.  Thanks for raising the issue again.

  • Can I Replace a Keyboard(Non-Backlit) with Backlit Keyboard in my HP Pavilion DV6 3217TU Laptop.??

Hello All... My name Pravin and I own a HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop couple of years ago.
Well, when I visited a near by HP Customer service center for the replacement of some components in it, the HP Technician has told me that My HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop is compatible for the up-gradation with Backlit Keyboard as he found the required sockets available for a backlit keyboard on my laptop's Mother Board. I felt pretty happy to hear about that, as it sounds real cool for the guy like me who works mostly at night time...
PLEASE CAN ANYBODY CONFIRM THAT MY HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop IS COMPATIBLE FOR THIS UP-GRADATION, IF COMPATIBLE, DOES ALL THE KEY STROKES WORKS FINE AS THE PREVIOUS ONE.???
Hope I hear a good news about it from the great experts here..^_*
    Thanks In Advance..

    Hi,
I think there might be a problem with my laptop, the keyboard gets hot only when I turn the backlit keyboard on.

  • Backlit keyboard for 1215dx

I have seen this question asked about other laptops, but not this one. I have a g4-1215dx and was wondering if i could install a backlit keyboard. Size and making it fit is not my concern, but rather is everything there in my laptop to hook up a backlit keyboard ( no soldering )
    Thanks!

    Hello EmerNabey
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but as I understand it you are looking to install a Backlit keyboard on your HP Pavilion g4-1215dx Notebook Computer. Unfortunately, according to the HP G4 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide there is no backlit keyboard available for your Notebook. Normally you would find your part number for the backlit keyboard located under the keyboard section (in this case on page 21) and there is none indicated for your product.
The good news is you now have an answer and the guide to any other upgrading you wish to do.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for bringing your question to the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Backlit keyboard for dv7t-4100?

I need to replace the keyboard in my Pavilion dv7t-4100.  Is it possible to install a backlit keyboard, i.e. is the backlight connector present on the motherboard on this model?  If so, what is the part number for the backlit keyboard?  I've heard of people installing backlit keyboards intended for other models.

  • My Macbook pro backlit keyboard burning out?

Okay, so I recently got my Macbook Pro(at the end of May), and I think my backlit keyboard is already burning out? Some of the letters are more illuminated than others, and the 7 and b barely have any light coming from them at all. The only plugin for my keyboard that I've had is for iTunes, and it makes the keyboard flash to the song. Fortunately, I got a three year protection plan for my laptop. I don't know if this is a known problem, I've looked all over and I haven't found anything regarding this. Can anyone please help me?

    Thanks!

Hey, dude, I got here looking up the same thing you did, My MB pro 13, has also n 7 and B with less strong backlight, im assuming that as we both have this issue it should be something from every laptop and as it usually happens we both have a very good look, it would otherwise be strange that both computers had the same error. I also tried looking closely and there does not seem to be quite much backlit in those keys,
    thats all byee
