W540 - Nvidia Optimus Driver Update - upgrade query

Is there a chance that Lenovo will certify the latest mobile/quadro drivers for use on the W540 - the March 5th release seems to have it's core Nvidia driver elements made from Nvidia Drivers which date back to Q3 2013 -325.xx?
The first time I noticed this was in my failed attempt to play BF4 on my machine - if anyone has any success in getting BF4 to run on their W540 - (I have the Nvidia K2100) but the game launcher prompts that I don't have a supported driver version - I had some success disabling optimus (switching to advanced in bios), installing the driver on discrete only (advanced) and all this does is allow me to skip the driver check (but the game run horribly - looks like it runs from the intel HD gpu only?)
So in other words could Lenovo distribute an optimus driver which takes in the latest enhcancements made to the latest Nvidia/quadro WHQL (latest being 340.52 WHQL released on the 10th of July 2014!).
I'm by no means an expert on drivers/certication - I have only dabbled in tweaking/editing ini files and some Nvidia inspector on my Desktops - but i don't think it's a stretch to assume the improvements/bug fixes made in later driver versions are worthwhile being added to the Lenovo system - Aside from my laptop's secondary function to play a few games, It's a workstation - any "free" improvement to the performance of Solidworks would be welcomed.
Alternately, has anyone had success installing/adding optimus drivers from other sources? - Not expecting Lenovo to inform me of this but if any of the other users have had success I might be inclined to try other solutions

It looks like you've mentioned it, but changing the video mode to "Advanced" in the bios (despite it saying something about the dock) let me install the drivers.  I had the same problem where the installer kept rejecting me saying that my card is not supported before switching that setting.
With the official driver, I have not had any problems with it switching to discrete graphics.  In the Nvidia Control Panel, try enabling the option "Show Notification Tray Icon" under View and you'll have a little square icon in your system tray that lights up when the Quadro is being used (yes, it'll light up for fullscreen apps that you alt-tab out of).  For cases where it doesn't activate for certain programs, you *must* create an .exe profile and enable discrete mode in that profile.

  • Nvidia CUDA driver update fixes crashes for Premiere Pro and other applications

We are seeing reports that the CUDA 5.5.47 driver update released today addresses the crashing problems introduced by the CUDA 5.5.43 driver update in Premiere Pro and other applications.   So, if you have an Nvidia GPU, please update your drivers to use the most recent version of the CUDA driver.
    Thanks!

It should be added that only Macs and Quadros need the CUDA driver.  That is not required for use with GeForce cards on Windows.

  • Nvidia CUDA driver update fixes crashes for After Effects and other applications

We are seeing reports that the CUDA 5.5.47 driver update released today addresses the crashing problems introduced by the CUDA 5.5.43 driver update.
So, if you have an Nvidia GPU, please update your drivers to use the most recent version of the CUDA driver.
On Mac OS, you can update your version of the CUDA driver from the CUDA panel, available from the Mac OS System Preferences. For CUDA downloads, see the Nvidia website.
Also, make sure that you have installed the most recent updates for your Adobe video applications.

I actually had a very negative thing happen to me when I updated CUDA to 5.5.47, it broke my computer! Here's what happened and how you might put a band-aid on it for the time being....
    Specs:
    MacPro (Mid 2010)
    Mavericks 10.9.2
ATI Radieon HD 5770 1024 MB
    1) I went to System Preferences > CUDA > Update and ran the updated for 5.5.47
    2) After the update was successful, I launched Adobe Prelude CC and it crashed immediately. Then I launched Adobe Premiere CC, crashed on startup.
    3) I restarted my computer
    4) Tried launching Adobe Prelude CC again, crashed.
    5) Restarted my computer in Single User Mode, Ran a File System Check, shows that the Mac HD Appeared to Be "Okay"
    6) Rebooted and went to System Preferences > CUDA, it shows that I had 5.5.47 but that a UPDATE WAS REQUIRED, the problem was that it didn't have an update button
    7) I went to the CUDA update website and found the 5.5.47 update for Mac, ran it and it appeared to install successfully, but the applications still crashed and the preference pane for CUDA still showed that an update was required.
    8) I called Apple, they suggested re-installing Mavericks, so I did. Still the apps crashed and CUDA showed 5.5.47 with an update still being required
    9) I searched for CUDA and found that it was in HD > Library > Frameworks
    10) I moved the CUDA Framework file to my Desktop to make a copy and to remove it from the Frameworks folder
    11) Launched Adobe Prelude CC and Adobe Premiere CC and they worked fine.
I know CUDA does some wonderful things when it works, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to re-install and it get it working again, please let me know.

  • NVIDIA Optimus driver problem

    Hi
This is the third time I'm reinstalling Arch because of the driver issue with Nvidia Optimus.
I'm running Arch on Asus U36SG with the optimus technology Nvidia and Intel.
I have tried like 10 different approaches regarding installation of drivers. The last attempt was when following instructions
    from this site: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee.
The step I tried was installing  Installing Bumblebee with Intel / nvidia but later Arch was complaining about the nouveau driver missing
when running optirun glxgears -info. So i try installing nouveau but when finished Arch freezes with blank screen on reboot. So i had to reinstall Arch again.....
Can someone plz give me a correct step by step procedure on how to install these drivers?

  • W540 - NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver

I confused as usual with my Workstation.
My W540 has v9.18.13.1269 installed.  This was the default when I got the system.  It is dated 10/28/2013.
Yet today I see we have a new v9.18.13.1269 released 9/5/2014 on the update site:
There are many 'Nothing' new in the help section, yet minor bug fixes, keeping the same version number.  Maybe a different build??
Any one know what is going on.  New calendar system? New software Dewey system?

I always avoid Optimus, it's historically been way too buggy and very little performance bump over HD4000/4600.  I either opt for Quadro machines or just run Intel integrated.  That being said, it's a blessing in disguise for you since Outlook is hideos.  Consider something else, so many better options exist.

This driver was removed from extra in September. Now, in may you can finally update to a current xorg.

Not quite. The 32bit version tries to use a symbol that was removed some time ago, so it has non-working opengl. The 64bit version works fine. Nvidia is aware of it, so maybe there will be an update.

  • T61 (7664-1bg) nVidia driver update?

    Hello.
The driver for my nVidia Quadro NVS140M is a bit old now, september 2009 I think, and I'd like a driver update. Concidering how often nVidia releases driver updates, that should in theory not be a problem.
However, I find that the drivers page for my aforementioned laptop only has the old driver. Say, isn't there an updated driver? 1,5 year old driver is a bit too old for me.

Even though it's not an optimal gaming computer, I've been known to play a game or two on it. And recently, some of the games I play suggest a driver update to enable some of the newer features.
I am aware that newer graphics card drivers usually work for just the new cards, but I do like my hardware drivers up to date. Downloading a driver directly from nVidia did not work, and it told me to get the driver from the computer manufacturer. This is very typical with pre-built computers and notebooks, and it kind of annoys me.
Aw well, if there isn't an update availible, I guess I'll just have to live with it

  • Driver update for Win 7 USB issue on nVidia chipset systems now available

This patch is needed for the TouchSmart 600 AIO Desktop series if you haven't installed it.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Driver-update-for-Win7-USB-issue-on-nVidia-chipse...

The update is not part of the desktop Win7 update disc from MS or HP  - Microsoft has not yet integrated it into Win7, and it is not yet available on Windows Update (it is likely to hit there sometime in January).   It was available too late to get it out on HP Update before the holiday break.  I don't believe there have been any rolls to the Win7 upgrade disks.   I do recommend (while still on Vista) running HP Update and installing all applicable updates  - PRIOR to doing the Win7 upgrade.  Also - I'd double check the drivers page for your system for any Vista updates as well,  best to do any driver/BIOS/Video BIOS updates prior to the Win7 upgrade process.  I know that some of them were created before Windows 7 was out - and may not want to install if it sees the newer OS.
As to the fix - this could manifest itself in many ways - but essentially - this resolves system flakyness with USB devices attached .  Some internal devices (card readers, touchscreens, some Wireless LAN interfaces) connect via USB - so they could be affected, even if you haven't hooked up anything to your system externally.
Not sure just what problems you were experiencing, so can't say this was the cause (and will be the fix) - but if it applies to your system - I'd definitely give it a shot.    I checked a couple of systems that had this update - I see it now on the software drivers and update page for them, so it looks like it rolled out OK.
    Happy Holidays...

  • NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64 Bit) interfering with Microsoft Outlook 2013

    Lenovo Community
Can't explain it nor do I understand it but it appears that the latest NVIDIA Optimus Display Drivers (Version 9.18.13.1270 / 8.15.10.2725, dated 05 Jan 2014) is interfering with Microsoft Outlook 2013. For a week I have been working with Microsoft Technical and Lenovo's Premium Support to no avail. I have reformatted my hard drive 4 times and uninstall and reinstalled Office 2013 Pro more time than I can to remember. The issue stared last Tuesday (18 Mar 2014) when I uploaded new drivers from Lenovo and Microsoft. Outlook would not execute (the initial Outlook dialog would just say processing ....) For four day's Microsoft, Lenovo, and I trouble shot everything under the sun. What was odd was whenever Microsoft or Lenovo technicians took control of my computer Outlook worked fine, and when I stated this to the technicians they thought I was nuts, but once I had control the problem returned. Finally frustrated to the hill I once again reformatted my hard drive but this time installed the Lenovo updates and software one at a time creating numerous restore points along the way. When I updated the new NVIDIA drivers the problem resurfaced.  When I would go into the device manager and uninstall the NVIDIA driver’s outlook once again worked fine.  I finally was able to reinstall (through my restore points) the previous version of drivers and Outlook is working fine.  Is there something to this. ??????

  • NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad

The display driver available at http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029106 is advertised as being version 9.18.13.3302 / 8.15.10.2725, released on 5/20/2014, but what can really be downloaded from the URL (g5de45ww.exe) is actually a two-year old driver from 2012, version 9.17.10.2483 for Intel HD 4000. Does anyone know from where the current, up-to-date display driver for Intel HD 4000 in the T430 can be downloaded?

On lenovo blogs someone asked Russ Compton (lenovo employee) this question, see his reply below:-
"Q: Is this a software/driver update that can be applied to existing switchable graphics T410s models, or is there a hardware change which means it’s a feature of new “Optimus systems” only.
A: Amardeep, that is a good question. All ThinkPads shipping today will be Optimus enabled if running Win 7.. The current T410, T410s and T510 that are in the field will not be able to upgrade. The changes are the following: 1- Graphics Driver, 2- BIOS UPDATE 3- EEPROM Flash. So the hardware is not changing, but the upgrade to Optimus is not supported due to the EEPROM update that is required."

    Hi Cuong
I assume you use a wrong graphic driver or a wrong graphic card driver update procedure.
Toshiba recommend to use the own graphic drivers. The all drivers for European Toshiba notebooks you will find on this website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
After successfully downloading please unpack the driver. There you should find a setup.exe. Please install it.
Well, if this procedure doesnt work so please go to device manager and select the graphic card and right click. Then you can select the option update driver. The driver source is the driver download place.
