W540 - Ubuntu Problems - "thinkpad_acpi asked for hotkey mask" Crashes X Server

Here's a super fun issue, every now and then, my screen will freeze. At first I thought it was because I was using Ubuntu 14.04's new Nvidia Prime drivers (what with my fancy Quadro 1100M card), so I rebooted when it happened. When I found out you can ctrl-alt-f1 to get to a console in Ubuntu, I started doing that to restart my X session so at least I didn't need to go through startup. While that worked fine, I finally figured out that the reverse command, ctrl-alt-f7, not only worked, but reconnect to my lost X server and continue my session like nothing happened.
Ubuntu pros don't seem to think this is their problem, because it's very clearly a Thinkpad issue. After months of having this issue, I can confirm it's always when using the trackpad, and always gives the error message "thinkpad_acpi asked for hotkey mask 0x0070 but firmware forced it to 0x0070ffbb".
Any thoughts? Anywhere else I should be posting this? Otherwise, the Thinkpad 540/Ubuntu14.04 match works heavenly, I run multiple simultaneous VMs to do full stack development work, and in my off hours I use the computer to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution through wine. Couldn't be better... except when I use the track pad, it often needs me to ctrl-alt-f1 ctrl-alt-f7 refresh the connection to the X server. No idea why.

Flash Player will not install: Asks for authentication of a proxy server.

Trying to install Flash Player. The installer asks for confirmation of a proxy server: American Family Online. This is a third party content filter that I used over 3 years ago, but no longer use. I cannot authenticate, since I do not use this service anymore. this prevents me from installing Flash Player. I cannot find a reference to this in browser settings or security settings and do not currently use a proxy server. What do I need to do to get past this and install Flash Player?

(1) Physical file location
The DLL is deposited in this folder:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
Can you find NPSWF32_11_9_900_170.dll there?
(2) Registry entry
If the file exists, the next link in the chain is the registry entry Adobe leaves for Firefox to find.

I have extremely big problem with one of your products, and I'm afraid I can't solve him without your help. Few months ago I bought a laptop witch exact model is TOSHIBA SATTELITE PRO A300 - 1GQ. Model No.: PSAG1E - 00900NF3, Serial No.: 88549776Q. If you need another information I can tell you everything. Badly i got serious virus and the situation reach fall windows start. I know about integrated Toshiba Recovery and I used it. Windows Vista was successfully installed but the partion was not formated. Some of the system files was still corrupted and I resorted to Toshiba DVD comming with the laptop. I ran it, there was no problems until I saw Windows XP logo. I was pretty surprised because I expected Windows Vista like original one which came with the laptop from the shop. Another problem was that that installation formated whole HDD including partitions different from C:\ with Windows system files. All of my data is gone without I could be able to do something. However, th
e question is that I need Windows Vista very badly and I dont want XP. I tried to use hidden partition with Toshiba recovery again but I cant no longer access it. So I left with original XP with drivers integrated with it. The problem is that I need Vista with integrated drivers. It wouldn't be hard also if I found that drivers in your sites. Nowhere in your sites with download I could find the exact model to take it. The nearest was A210 which I think is pretty far from mine.
And it the end I ask for help if you can tell me where to download the needed drivers or anyway to put Vista back. Preliminary I thank you and I apologize again for the disturbing. I need that information badly and I don't know where I can get it from. At least show me valid e-mail to contact with Toshiba Support.

Problem with iWeb asking for username and password to access my public site

Today for some reason anyone trying to access my site is being asked for username and password. I have made no changes that would require a password. My site has always been public.

I am having the same problems. My site is public, I checked the settings on the public folder on MobileMe to ensure that it was public and did not require password protection either. But for some odd reason, even though I didn't change anything, my site's pages seem to require a user name and password to get into them. If one continues to click cancel, the page continues to load.
This does not happen every single time, but it happens more often than not. I have tried this with my iMac, Macbook, as well as my iPod Touch, and I get this on all machines. My brother has tried logging in from another location using his Macbook Pro, and he gets the password prompt as well.
I tried turning on password protection to the site and uploading the changes, then disabling password protection and reupping the changes once again. I've tried uploading entire site, instead of just changes, but the problem continues to persist. I definitely need this issue solved since this site is important to me.

Problem installing CC - asking for serial number.

I recently purchased CC and download it to a temporary laptop (until mine returns from apple lab). I now got my laptop back, downloaded the programs but I'm unable to open them without it asking for a serial number. It also notes that it's a trial version, even-thoughI'm singed in.

Cloud programs do not use serial numbers... you log in to your paid Cloud account to download & install & activate... you MAY need to log out of the Cloud and restart your computer and log back in to the Cloud for things to work

Keychain problem - mail always asks for pop password

I have tried to set the password in Mail prefs but it simply won't stay there. Any ideas?

try clicking "cancel" instead of re-entering the password, I have found this to work in the past - no idea why.. theory is that my mac has the correct password but some other mail pop log in problem externally is being interpreted by mail as a log in failure when it isn't, such as the pop box still being locked from an earlier session (timeouts etc) or by another simultaneous login by another machine using the same pop box, maybe a laptop and a desktop.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion LibreOffice keeps asking for Java and crashing.

Java is needed only for Base which I don't use, so I disable Java in LibreOffice preferences, but it keeps asking if I want to enable it. In addition the preferences aren't being remembered so sometimes LibreOffice crashes when I start to do anything and it has to recover documents. Its all a big nuisance. I have NeoOffice which seems OK, but I'd like to have the option of LibreOffice which I have used for some time. Any thoughts?

Outlook 2010 client ask for credential when Exchange 2010 server restart

Hi,
Each time our Exchange server is restarted (most of time for update installation), all open Outlook clients are prompt for credential.
This is annoying because when the users come back, sometime they don't take care about the credential windows and believe that's they don't receive any mail and start to prompt the support when they notice that's their mail come to their mobile but
not on Outlook...
One solution is to ask everybody to shut their computer down every time an update of the server is planned. But as the users are, by design, very lazy and don't really care about this kind of things. It isn't an acceptable solution.
Does anyone know if there is a way for stopping Outlook to ask about credential when it loose temporarily the connection with Exchange ?

Mail, always asks for password.. it's driving me crazy!

Lately my mail (2.1.3 version) icon bounces up and down when open, and a box pops up saying:
Enter password for account "POP account". The POP server"..." rejected the password for user "...." please re-enter your password, or cancel. Remember this password in my keychain.
I enter my password and ask it to remember it. It works fine for a short while before stalling then getting me to enter the password again. This is a new development and it worked fine before. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried to look into mail prefs. to see if there is any adjustments to be made, but there seems to be none . The thing is even bouncing as I write this.. Thank you.

Hey guys I just posted on a similar thread about how I was able to fix the issue for me. i kept having problems with mail asking for my yahoo password. tried keychain repair, removing the account and adding it back, removing the plist file and even reinstalled 10.5 (not because of this) and the problem persist. So I went to my yahoo account settings and in to the Pop settings. There, listed were the exact configuration specs. I referenced those against my current configuration (which was Apple's automatic configuration) and noticed the inbound and outbound servers were missing the word "plus" in front of their respective servers addresses. Entered the correct address, and so far so good. It hasn't asked me for my password in over a week now so I think I'm safe. I would say, if you haven't already, double check your current configuration with something you find from your email provider, especially if you've used Apple's automatic setup. Hope this helps.

CVS always asks for password

Whenever I contact the CVS server (over at Sourceforge) JDev always asks for the password to the server. Is there a way I can make JDev store this password in some way?
I use the CVS-executable in TortoiseCVS and also use the TortoisePlink executable as the ssh client. Everything works just perfect, it's just really annoying to have to type in my password for every little CVS activity.
Any solutions?

The user is in the best position to decide if there is a security issue with persisting the password in JDeveloper or not.
I had this problem too. There is obviously a conflict in requirements of security vs usability so really, you should warn the user but let the user decide how to configure it and let him take responsibility.
JDeveloper should interoperate with the user's environment, within reason, and not make him change it.
Note, the HTTP proxy login has a similar problem. Not every time, but often when JDeveloper goes to the www it re-asks for the proxy password.
I dont care if JDeveloper stores either password in the clear in its XML configuration files, as long as it remembers them. It can warn me but it should do it if I tell it to ignore the risk. Then I can get on with my development job rather than having to reconfigure my CVS server or www proxy which are not mine to reconfigure anyway.

This happens 100% of the time.

I have the same problem. It ask for all elements that proxt detects ("NetworkError: 407 Proxy Authentication Required").
Solution "No proxy" not works because i aslo require internet.
I have version 10.0.2 on windwos XP, and this happens to me since I update it. On chrome and ie works without prompt.
I upload and example, this page calls facebooks elements (i can't acces facebook) and others, for each element prompt proxy is shown.

Apps asking for keychain at odd times

First, I've run Keychain first aid and restored from a pristine backup.
Here's my problem: Applications are asking for passwords at odd times. My email program will be chugging along just fine and then for no apparent reason begin asking for admin permission to retrieve mail. Not the isp password, the admin password. Safari will be working fine and then suddenly ask for the system password to access a page that may have been visited minutes before without needing a password.
The problem began with the 10.5.4 update.
My Keychain access shows the following:
Login
jimhall
Symantec
System
jimhall
system roots
I run under admin privileges as this is a standalone machine, not on a network
Anyone know how I can put an end to this frustrating problem?

I removed it permanently. Feel your pain about symantec, but I've got to have it, and I've gotten used to the occasional problem it causes.
I tested the keychain and found that both of the identically named chains updated themselves at the same time. I also backup hourly so I'm safe if anything needs to be replaced. Knowing that, I deleted one of them.
Of course, the problem has been intermittent, so we'll have to wait and see if and when it happens again. One way or the other I'll post back the results. So far though, so good.

OSX unexpectedly asks for admin credentials

Hi everyone,
a few seconds after waking up my iMac today I dialog box was shown: "App store tries to install new apple software. Enter name and password of an administrator to allow this" (the message was shown in german, this is just a translation by me). The dialog box shows a closed lock with a terminal window as icon. Of course I did not enter any credentials.
As I have not initiated any software installation and the App store application was closed I wonder if my Mac got compromised somehow, I have never seen such a dialog without any prior action by me. Scanning for updates after canceling the dialog worked without problems and without asking for the credentials.
Further investigation shows a log message "the software updated has restarted - reconnecting now" around the time the message was displayed, so this might be the reason. As an additional test I killed the softwareupdated process from a remote machine and the same message was shown a few hours later with the same log message, but this is no proof that the restart of this process triggered the dialog.
I am using a iMac 27" with OSX 10.9.4, all updates installed.

Then it seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. It is asking you to install the update after having been downloaded.
The setup pane indicates it will notify you when the app is ready to install. However, I have mine set to install all updates so I don’t know what form that notification comes as. It seems like it would be a normal notification and you would click “Install” or “Later” to dismiss it.
