W701 BSOD from nvlddmkm

I've been getting these random BSOD for awhile now, upgrading the display drivers generally doesn't fix the problem.  I know several people have had issues with this before, what's the deal with this, is this Lenovo or Nvidia or both fault?  How can this be fixed once and for all?

I used to have this problem, too. A workaround is disabling the PowerMizer of the graphics card: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W701ds-Nvidia-display-driver-crashes-frequentl... . This eliminates random system lock-ups from all 2xx.xx drivers to date.

  • NF750-G55 - BSOD from any enabled network adapter

    Hello MSI community,
I am posting this from my phone as my system is BSOD if I enable my network adapter...
I've done multiple troubleshooting restarts disabling and enabling differant components and from I can discern it's the network adapter(s) causing it...
I'm using the built in NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet device.  I've updated all system drivers (as far as I can tell) from the Nvidia site. But if this device is enabled I'd get BSOD every 5 mins or so..
I disabled the NForce adapter and tried using a Belkin N Wireless device... But I'm also getting BSOD when that is enabled (which is using a completely different driver).
Has anybody heard of this problem?  I'd be happy to upload more system info if needed, as long as my system stays stable long enough to transfer the info. >.<
    Info I can provide:
BlueScreenView shows the crash as a UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP in address ntosknl.exe+70740
this happens every 5 mins almost exactly.
    Mobo: nf750-g55
    CPU: AMD Phenom II x4
    Memory: 4096mb Corsair DDR3 1333Mhz

The new installation that you did with the new motherboard seems to have a problem.
When you then install the motherboard drivers, try SafeMode.
Have a look in Windows' logs, under Admin..., for errors.
Please mention PSU and Windows version in the list of specs.

  • HP dv6 Notebook freezes or get BSOD from AMD High-Definition Driver

My laptop (with switchable graphics) started to randomly get BSODs and I tried to fix this problem by restoring my notebook to its factory settings. Despite this, I still received quick BSODs before my computer shut down or froze, and i have reset my notebook several times.
I am nearly certain that it is my graphics driver. Every time I run the CCC and run programs under "High Performace" my computer proceeds to crash. Likewise, if I attempt to run a game my screen freezes.
When I disable the AMD driver in Device Manager my computer works fine (except games won't run and certain aesthetic things like resolution are changed). Also, when the driver is enabled and I boot my laptop, the laptop will freeze or get a quick BSOD at the boot screen ("Starting Windows"). I have to shut down and turn my computer back on repeatedly and then occasionally the computer will manage to boot up again.
I have a HP dv6-6170us with AMD Radeon 6770M, and my operating system is Windows 7 (64-bit).
I greatly need help with this situation and have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again off HP's website just to have it still not work again.
    Thanks!

  • Random BSODs from ntoskrnl

Hi there, I'm using an Asus laptop (about 2 years old now) and recently started getting random blue screens. They aren't constant, but frequent enough to be a problem. I've tried doing a memory test on my RAM and did a full scan/repair of my hard drive and
didn't find any errors. Sometimes these blue screens come while i'm logging in (usually the cancel_state_in_completed_irp) after having closed the laptop for the night, sometimes they happen completely randomly while using it or even idling (driver_irql_not_less_or_equal).
I'm living in China so taking it somewhere to be looked at isn't an option, so I was hoping I could find some help here. I'm not exactly sure how to post the dump file info, I've just been using BlueScreenView to look at it, here's the info it gives me:

    Hi,
In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
-- %systemroot% is the environment variable for your Windows directory. For example, C:\Windows.
    2. Copy any and all .DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop, create a new folder on the Desktop to put these .DMP files in, and then zip the folder. You can then either use a 3rd party tool such as 7-Zip/Winrar, or you can use Windows'
    default method of zipping folders.
Compress and uncompress files (zip files).
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUpUtilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use. With this said, if you've run such software, and your Minidump folder is empty, you will need
to allow the system to crash once again to generate a crash dump.
    3. Upload the .ZIP containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply.
Preferred sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers, download managers, etc.
4 (optional): The type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel Memory Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference
between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel Memory Dumps in the simplest definition is a Kernel Memory Dump contains
much more information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel Memory Dump is
the best choice. Do note that Kernel Memory Dumps are much larger
in size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
After doing that, to learn how to share the link to the file if you are unaware, please visit the following link -
Share files and folders and change permissions and view 'Get a link'.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for
    all drives'.
    3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the
    system log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than
Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.
If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.

    Patrick

  • T510 - NVIDIA from Windows Update Should I do it or not b/c of the fear of BSOD

Well, i am currently running on the 8.16.11.8898 version of the NVIDIA 3100M driver. It is an older version because there there is a driver which causes BSODS sporadically and thats the driver which came with the laptop. Now windows is saying there is a new update of the NVIDIA drivers and i am wonderng if that driver is the one I uninstalled previously to get rid of the BSOD. Are there any thinkpad t510 users out there that updated the NVIDIA Drivers? did you guys encounter BSODS when you got the t510 b/c of the NVIDIA driver? If you did not get BSODS mind telling me what version of the driver you are using? lol im scared to update b/c of the bsods from the nvidia graphics driver

If you don't have any issues with the current driver... then don't update it.
Newer drivers may or may not bring better performance, better power consumption, better program support, etc.
If the driver that came with the laptop caused issues, then wouldn't the newer update be, inherently, newer and hence not the same version?
    EDIT: Old thread looks old.
If you have no trouble with your current driver but want to update, then by all means.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 won't boot after replacing hardware (BSOD 0x0000007B)

My problem in a nutshell: I moved, the PC (without the HD) got totalled, I ordered a new machine with the exact same hardware. Meanwhile, I tried to copy some files to another machine by plugging in the HD externally, but all files in the
/User/Documents/ folder are protected/encrypted (I didn't encrypt them). I fiddled around with the rights and ownership of those files but to no avail, and I was later unable to revert the changes I made. So I guess I should probably not have done that. Anyway,
the new machine eventually arrived, I plugged in the HD, and after loading AtiPcie.sys I was greeted by a BSOD that immediately forced a reboot.
Edit: I now know what the BSOD message is, but if I edit it into this post it breaks the formatting for some reason. See my reply further down in this thread for the error message.
Here's a list of things I did in my vain attempts at solving the problem:
    Safe mode
No effect at all, except that the (probably same) BSOD occurs after loading CLASSPNP.sys instead.
    Various hardware checks including chkdsk
No problems found. To be certain, I plugged in another HD and installed Win2k on it. It boots just fine.
    Recovery console: bootrec /rebuildbcd
The operation "completed successfully" (after renaming the old BCD file) but had no effect.
Recovery console: bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootsect /nt60 all
Same as above, except now the list of drivers loaded during startup is replaced by a Windows logo and a loading bar. I preferred the list.
    StartRep.exe
After a while, this gave me an error with the following problem signature (from memory, I didn't think I would be unable to replicate it later):
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: (sth long, don't remember)
    Problem Signature 05: ExternalMedia
    Problem Signature 06: 13 (I think)
    Problem Signature 07: BadDriver
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 (or sth like this)
    Locale ID: 1033
The only external devices at that point apart from the monitor were a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. Ever since that scan, StartRep.exe immediately completes with no problems found. Also, BSOD on reboot as usual.
    Removed AtiPcie.sys and atikmdag.sys
    Didn't seem to do anything.
I'm out of options now, and I'm reluctant to reinstall Windows since it seems this might permanently make the user documents inaccessible. Any suggestions how I might get that machine running again, preferably without losing those protected documents?

Boot the installation media and if it sees the existing install then you can choose to upgrade.
I do have an option to upgrade, but when I select it I get to a screen with this text:
The computer started using the Windows Installation disc. Remove the Installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows Starts normally. Then, Insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade. (Do not select "Custom (advanced)"
to perform an upgrade. "Custom (advanced)" installs a new copy of windows and deletes your programs and settings.)
Since I can't boot Windows, this isn't an option. The line "Custom (advanced)" installs a new copy of windows and deletes your programs and settings.) is exactly what I want to avoid since it would presumably make the
    protected user files inaccessible.
    Hi
You can check the HDD mode in the BIOS, even if the same hardware, I know the HDD mode can be set on another mode (raid versus jbod). Thus the driver last used will not be the same.
I can find only one such option in the BIOS (Integrated Peripherals -> On-Chip ATA Devices -> RAID Mode) and the current setting is IDE with the alternatives being RAID and AHCI. I don't think that's what you're referring to though.
Other question: Is there any way to find out more about the BSOD from some dumpfiles via the recovery console, or something?

  • MSI 890FXA-GD70 w/ 2xIntel 510 120GB in RAID 0 on Locks up and BSOD

I have swapped power supplies. I have swapped identical RAM. I have swapped video cards. I have used Ultimate Boot CD to run Memtest and other stress tests and everything passes with flying colors. BIOS is loaded with defaults fail safe. RAID array is created using all defaults for a RAID 0. Everything points to SSD firmware or other issues. Maybe RAID 0 with 2 Intel 510's using a AMD SB850 is not supported? Firmware versions on the 510's are both PPG4 which is the latest. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone have any ideas? I am very disappointed that that I can not get my RAID 0 stable. BTW I am doing no overclocking etc. Hardware and errors follow. Thanks!

Thanks for the help! It is appreciated. Power supply is Antec 380W. I have tried swapping out with identical one - both were brand new and I have had pretty good luck with Antec in the past so I kind of doubt that's it. Wish it was so easy! The machine is on a good line interactive UPS as well so power fluctuations are not causing this.
I am using the hardware RAID on the SB850 - it requires loading the latest driver from USB during installation. But prior to that it requires a Ctrl-F and into the RAID setup. I choose RAID 0 and then select both Intel 510 120GB SATA III. The two SSD have the exact same firmware which is the latest per Intel Website.
Drivers are the latest for Win7x64 from here:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/890FXA-GD70.html#/?div=Driver&os=Vista%2064
This problem is posted in two other spots - Intel Forums and Windows Seven Forums

No one has been able to solve it yet. Seems like MSI and Intel are both good companies but these products are not compatible in the configuration I am attempting.

  • Blue Screen of Death, from Wireless Keyboard

Alright, I've installed everything right, first thing I've done after installed windows was install drivers with Mac OS disk, and it accepted seeing my keyboard just fine. It was doing well for use. I then updated my windows, updated all the programs I installed, and shut it down, this information is probably irrelevant.
Anyways, after going back to Windows, and after a few minutes I get a blue screen of death, which i will refer to as bsod from now on. I rebooted, my keyboard didnt work, so I re-established it's bluetooth connection and entered a passcode in Mac OS, because it was inresponsive to boot in windows mode during start up. i copied that passcode down in hopes for it to do better, and rebooted into windows, reinstalled the keyboard via bluetooth using that same passcode, after about 40 minutes, another bsod.
It is in fact the keyboard for certain because these bsod's would occur when i start to type as times after I already had. Perhaps is the power saving mode on the keyboard, i have no clue.
However, I plugged in another keyboard, windows, and it's been doing much better than this ****** mac one. Please help, I dont want two keyboards on my desk anymore.
Oh, and as a side note, Windows only recognizes 2 gigs of ram. Why? I have 16! It acts like there is only 2 gigs of ram too! Is there a way to fix that as well?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
sorry no answer for the Bluetooth keyboard as I always have and will use wired keyboards. Partly because of such behaviour.
As for the 2GB limitation, I likely would say you use a 32-bit version of Windows.
Sadly there is no 'cure' for this other than using 64-bit version of Windows.

  • Mainboard P45-C51 BIOS 5.1 : cant run Intel Q8300 CPU BSOD

Hej i have a Mainboard P45-C51 BIOS 5.1 cant get it to Run with a Intel Q8300 CPU please help..
I have tried 2 x Q8300 BSOD under Windows7 Installation. but with an old CPU Like Core2/6420 i works great.
dont think i have 2 broken Q8300 because there work in others motherboard from Gigabyte.
    Kind regards THXMAN

    Quote
But get BSOD from 2 brand new Q8300 just out of the box.
Any chance that there is a broken or bent socket pin that matters to the Q8300 more than to the E6240?  Have you checked that yet?
Can you please have a look at the heatspreader of both Q8300s and write down the sSpec Number?  There are two revisions of the Q8300.  One with and one without Intel Virtualization Support.  [SLGUR and SLB5W]
I don't know why, but there is no useful CPU Support List for your board (or any other board of that series for that matter).  That is why it is impossible to check if the CPU is actually supported or not.
A look at the last generation of MS-7519-Board reveals that the CPU Support List does not have any of the two Q8300-CPUs in it.  So this may be a simply no-support issue which has nothing to do with broken components (as you said, it is rather unlikely to get two different broken CPU exemplars).
What you can do is to contact MSI Support and ask what could be going on here:
    http://support.msi.com/
They may provide you with a newer BIOS-Revision to try your luck with (the latest BETA Release I know of is A7519IMS.524 (v5.2b4)).

  • Laptop ThinkPad W701 turns off while playing games...

I got this laptop for 2 years and it has never done this before. Two weeks ago it started turning off when I played games like Skyrim or Europa Universalis 4.
The laptop is hot at the place where the graphic card is located but the fan seems to be working...and PC doctor has no error.
I disassembled the laptop and cleaned it from dust but it did not work...
I tried different drivers (for quadro fx 2800m) and now I have installed the 326.80 beta, but it's still the same...
I don't know what to do, I'm so angry that i'm considering to buy a Dell Alienware... can someone help me, please?

    Hey Xardas,
I'll reinstall Win7 in a week to be sure it isn't an other problem.
I uninstalled one device in the device manager, it was an ATI device, I installed a recommended benchmark so that was it's device I guess.
As you said, I took a look into the Event Viewer, by the way thanks for that I didn't know that there is some kind of program :) , and there is one event that matches to the time, the display turns black. Maybe my translation won't be the best one :S
*_+The discription for Event-ID "14" from "nvlddmkm" could not be found. Maybe the component, who starts this event, is not installed on the system or the installation is damaged. You can install these components on this lokal system.+_*

    *_+CMDre 00000001 00000094 ff1fe138 00000007 00000000+_*
I hope the translation isn't as bad as I think it is :/

  • Atrocious Customer Support for a W701

North American Solutions purchased several Lenovo W701 laptops from CDW, one of them had started to fail prematurely. It started off with the internal DC power supply failing. We first believed it was the external power supply but after replacing it with a new power supply it did not solve the problem. We of course found a temporary solution that was to maintain the laptop stationary. Then we started to notice various hardware components started to fail, including one of the processor's cores and the video card. Our USB ports have also completely failed and no connected device would be recognized by the computer (the computer does not see the device even hooked up). We ended up taking it in for repair at CDW which was supposed to be for free since the laptop is under warranty. We told the clerks up front and showed them that the there was some liquid accidentally spilled around the trackpad and the mouse keys (only the mouse keys) were slightly sticky but nonetheless everything functioned. They told us no problem and took it in for repair, few days later we receive an email stating that because there was some minor liquid spilled it meant the entire laptop's warranty was voided and thus it would cost to repair. CDW says the fault is Lenovo's since they are the ones who told them this.
We have internal techs here which are now going to open this laptop up completely and photograph all the hardware because there is no way that the liquid ever touched any of the hardware even the keys that were spilled on work. There is no way that this laptop's warranty could be voided because of a bit of liquid was spilled, especially since the keys at the source of the spill still work.
I want to complain to the executives, especially to the president regarding the very poor service. What is their email address?

I just took a look at the laptop myself, nothing is sticky at all. They are just manufacturing excuses. Will contact the BBB, Rip Off reports, Consumerist, General Attorney where Lenovo is and Consumer Complaints.

  • Frequents bsod after pci vid card installed

    hey all,

    heres the deal.
    system specs
    amd duron 1.1
MS-6378 mobo with onboard sound and vid
XP Home SP1 and XP Pro (no sp)
the mobo in my wifes pc has no agp slots, and has 4 or 8 megs of onboard video. she constantly comandeers my pc while im working to get in a game or two, so i finnaly decided to pick her up a pci video card the other night.
    got it at walmart, 30 bucks for a gforce2 mx200 w/32 PCI
installed it and it ran fine, she was happy, and i was happy lol, now this error started only with divx and now happens more frequently. after playing a divx movie for any length of time, it has happened after 2 minutes, and after 30 , i get an irq_not_less_or_equal_to bsod from win32k.sys. at first this was only with divx movies, but now it happens randomly, just happened 5 minutes ago when i was writing this thread hehe , i updated the bios, and took a look inside...im assuming this could be due to the onboard video maybe, but there are no settings to flat out disable it. i disabled video bios shadowing, set the agp arpeture(? SP) to 4mb(min) told the bios not to reserve an irq for video, disabled the onboard video driver through the windows. i wish i could just uninstall the driver for it, but whenever i do windows thinks its great to reinstall it to make my life easier :p
any help would be appriticated, im just going to lurk around the forums all day
thanks alot, and any help i would be greatful for this is driving me bannanas

    Hi there,
Sorry for bringing this thread back up but I have the exact same laptop and the exact same problem. I believe I've had this problem since this thread has been posted, but have just come across this thread. I've done a factory reset through the built in recovery options but I still come across these errors (BSODs and graphical glitches, also from nvlddmkm.sys and 0x116 errors). Whenever I run a Furmark GPU stress test, the FPS is fine until I hear the fan turn on, which the frames then drop extremely low (5 fps or so). Once temperature of the GPU drops a bit and the fans turn off, the FPS rises again back to normal. This continues for awhile (dropping and going back up) until it crashes with an OpenGL error. I also did a Memtest to check my RAM, but it all checked out ok. At first I ordered a recovery disc because the recovery partition was not working for some reason (kept crashing/freezing). I tried it again recently and the recovery went through. I'm not quite sure if the built in recovery and the recovery media discs are different, but I'm hoping it will make a difference when it gets here. If the recovery disc does however not work, should I just assume its a hardware issue and send it to an ASP for repair? Extremely hesitant because of the high cost...Any help would be much appreciated. Been bothered by this issue for a month...
