WAAS 4.1

I was wondering if anyone knew if the new WAAS software version 4.1 gets rid of the idea of connectivity groups and having to identify a WAE as a core, or edge rather than it operating as either without extra confgiuration? I have tried looking in the FAQ but didn't see it addressed. Thanks.

Cameron,
The public documentation for the 4.1 release is currently under development. A summary of the new features is located here:

The quickest solution might be to try to reinstall followed by another uninstall, or to use the Windows Install Cleanup Utility, (although Microsoft has removed it from their support site with the following disclaimer).
    Notice
This article previously contained a link to the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing a product other than Microsoft Office, please contact your software manufacturer for installation support on the product.
While the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center.
Nonetheless, here is an active link and basic instructions:
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    1.     To use the Windows CleanUp utility, follow these steps:
    a.     Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Install Clean Up.
    b.     Select the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
    c.     Click OK, and then click Exit.
If these suggestions do not help, then perhaps a case should be opended with TAC and they could assist with gathering the installer log files.

  • Windows 8 compatibility and WAAS Mobile.

    Hi, everyone,
I have undertaken the possibly mad quest of getting WAAS Mobile working on Windows 8. I am currently receiving the error "TDI driver failed to initialize." Does anyone have any insight into that issue?
    Thanks,

  • Best practice with WCCP flows for WAAS

    Hi,
I have a WAAS SRE 910 module in a 2911 router that intercepts packets from this router with WCCP.
All packets are received by external interface (gi 2/0, connected to a switch with port configured in WCCP vlan), and are sent back to the router via internal interface (gi 1/0 directly connected to the router) :

The default route configured in WAAS module is 0.0.0.0/0 to 10.0.1.254 (router interface).
Would it be better that packets leave WAAS module by the external interface (in place of the internal interface) ?
Is there a best practice recommended by Cisco on this ?
    Thanks.
    Stéphane

    Hi Stephane,
We usually advise the following in such scenario with an internal module:
"ip wccp 61 redirect in" the LAN interface.
"ip wccp 61 redirect in" on the WAN one.
"ip wccp redirect exclude in" on the internal interface between the WAAS and the router.
That way, we are sure that no loops are created because of the WCCP redirection.

    Nicolas

  • What ports need to be open on Fw for Waas Communication--Urgent

                       Hi All,
This product is new to need your help in configuring this. I am explaining the architecture below:-
We have a requirement to use WAVE-594-K9 Software Release 5.3.1 and in our Manila location and it will not talk to Waas central Manager in our client location instead client has installed one same model Wave-594 in PHX.
So now client has said it will only be used for caching contents and not for optimizing, they have some video training on web which will be passed through this wave and for making them highly/fastly available to agents they want to use this.
We have installed one Wave in Manila in application-accelerator mode and using PBR to redirect the desired traffic via Wave. As per our client Manila Wave will talk to PHX wave and PHX wave will get registered to Waas Manager in client network.
We have firewall between PHX wave & Manila wave, please let me know do we need to opened tcp/udp ports on FW for opening the communication between these two waves?
and what else i need to configure on Manila wave?
This is very urgent quick reply will be highly appreciated!!
    Thanks!!
    Bhisham

Thanks for the quick reply Kanwal!!
I checked with my team in PHX and we have Juniper FW in between these two Wave's, so what i understand from the links which you have shared.
In Manila Wave i need to configure that in Directed Mode and udp port 4050 needs to be opened bi-directionally on Juniper FW between IPs configured on wave devices.
In Manila we have 10.111.x.189 (Virtual-Blade IP) & 10.111.x.190 IPs & in PHX we 63.149.23.x & 63.149.23.x (VB) so from both IPs we required to open udp 4050 bi-directionally? Want to be sure before raising any request :-)
In PHX wave i am not sure whether we can configure that in directed mode and if it’s not then also it will work by opening port 4050 on FW Right?
In last our client was saying that Manila Wave will only be used as cache engine (VB is configured as content-engine) and it will download contents from PHX Wave (which is registered to CM at client side), what does it mean and do i need to do any special config on wave to achieve this?
I am very new to this device and lot of research on net confused me a lot, please don’t mind!!
Will wait for your reply then only i will raise request with FWteam.
    Thanks,
    Bhisham

  • WaaS Central Manager - device serial number report available?

    Hi folks,
just wondering if anyone knows a quick/easy way to talk to the WAAS database to pull serial number information for all of my WAE's installed.  i have 35 devices scattered around 7 states and I'm hoping for an easy way to collect serial number info.
I was hoping the platform report from the CM would do it, but it does not provide serial numbers of each chasis, only model and software version.
My thought is the CM probably has this data somewhere?  I'm hoping to avoid having to manually telnet to 35 appliances and run the command 'show inventory' to find the appliance I am looking for.
    anyone have a good shortcut?
also - anyone know what the database format is?  mysql? postgres?

The best way to collect serial # remotely from a WAAS device (WAE) is by executing 'show hardware'. You may write a script to get it.
CM don't provide this info currently.
Can you please unicast me at '[email protected]' so that I will be able to understand your requirements.
    thanks
    Nat

  • Can't Install WAAS in WAVE 574

    Hi,
When I turn on WAVE 574, it said "No system disk/ disk error" (something like that). So I assume, there is no OS installed in the disk. I downloaded WAAS 4.4.1 rescue CD, and after a while, It said, "Can't determine boot device! Platform initialization failed". I checked front panel LED and the color for HDD is green. I tried to reseat the disk, but no luck ( It only has 1 disk). Is it problem because WAAS incompatibility with my WAVE, or HDD is being broken? I attached the log.

Look inside the unit and see if the flash/usb key is plugged into the motherboard.  The device intializes of that and then access the disk based software.

  • WAAS inline adapter issue

There isn't any lights on the 4 port inline adapter in the WAAS.  When I plug in a wire none of the ports light up.  Is there some kind of configuration, That I need to do to turn on these ports?  Please help!  Thank you

    Hi,
You definitely need an Inline Adapter to setup WAAS 674 for inline interception mode. The built in Gig interfaces cannot be used for inline interception but can be used for WCCP or PBR. Inline adapter comes in a group LAN port and a WAN port.

  • WAAS and WCCP - looping packet detected

    Hi,
Has anyone ran into this senario before. Before anyone answers with "move your WAE off the user subnet", it already has been.
I have wccp 61 redirect in on the user subnet (gig0/0.83 of a dot1q trunk). The WAE is on gig0/1. Before I apply wccp62 to the serial link, I attempt to telnet from a user pc to the router (same subnet, clients default gateway), and the telnet fails. I get a "looping packet detected" on the router console. It shows the source of the packet as the router (wccp router id actually), and the destination ip of the WAE, but the packet came in gig0/1 (interface connected to wae). Obviously the WAE returned the packet to the router (with the original GRE headers, (router as source)). I thought WCCP would understand this as "don't redirect this traffic to me anymore", but the router, actually tries to route it back down gig0/1 and then sees it as a looping packet. I believe the WAE is returning the encapsulated packet to the router to indicate it doesn't want the flow, and the router is attempting to route the GRE packet, instead of realizing it should remove the GRE header and route the internal packet. Router is IOS 12.4(12) as recommended by my Cisco engineer. 2821 router.
For kicks, I continue the WCCP setup on the datatcenter side. As expected, it doesn't work. When I apply the WCCP to the datacenter router (only redirecting lab subnet), the entire lab subnet is unreachable via TCP (but icmp still works as expected).
The WCCP configuration isn't very complex, I can't believe its something I'm doing. I think its a code issue.
    Any advise?

no "out" anywhere. The LAB router has a WAE list to only allow redirect to the lab WAE. I don't even need the 62 in on the WAN side, just applying 61 in on the LAN side breaks telnet to the router.

  • Upgrade waas 4.1

we have a customer with 2 different versions of cisco waas
one is running 4.1 the other 4.0 both with their own CM
the CM of the 4.0 network should disappear and the sites should be migrated to the CM 4.1
the question is how to do this as for 4.0 you first have to do the devices before upgrading the CM and in 4.1 this is the other way around, first CM then the devices
is it possible that i first upgrade the devices, reboot and then assign them the new CM?

With WAAS 4.1, the upgrade procedure has changed. The procedure described below should be followed:
    1. Upgrade the standby Central Managers first (if any)
    2. Upgrade the primary Central Manager
    3. Upgrade all other WAEs.
In 4.1 upgrading devices configured for optimizatoin (Application Accelerator) to higher version than CM is not supported or recommended. So, pl follow the procedure described above.

  • WAAS-4.1.5-b25 software?

  • Prepositioning in WAAS 4.1.1c

I am having trouble with this atm.
I have setup a test share on a remote server, with permissions etc and configured the relevant fields on WAAS GUI under -"File Services,Preposition".
I can broswe and find the directory and schedule the job to run.
The job seems to run ok,but when I go to the remote WAE and look at the Preposition Policy I am seeing no data actually being copied, just the Duration field is incrementing. The throughput field is also blank.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,

Can any help with this please?

  • WAAS Email Alerting

Is there a way to set up e-mail alerting for when the central manager shows an alert.  For instance recently one of our appliances show that a power supply is bad and needs to be replaced.  I see in the central manager that there is a section for SMTP server info but according to the documentation I believe that this is only for notification of report jobs correct me if I am wrong. I also know that you can go to each device and set up notifications and provide the SMTP info there as well but I'm not sure if that will send the right information.  I have looked on the device GUI that has the bad power supply and can't find anywhere in the GUI that says it has a bad power supply. The alert is only showing up in the central manager as well as if you SSH to the device and do a show alerts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Daniel,
Yes. You can do this but not from Central Manager.
Please login to the WAE directly. Please make sure to use IE as browser. Use this URL to login to WAE directly (bypassing WAE):
    https://:8443
Login as admin. Once you login, click on Cisco WAE --> Configuration --> Notifier Tab. You will see Email Notification option. Please fill in the details and enable what level of SNMP alerts you want to recive from the device.
Please also make sure to enable SNMP alerts and configure SNMP options from CM for the device. Link on Central Manager: My WAN --> Manage Devices --> --> Configure --> Monitoring --> SNMP .
Here is the link to help you with SNMP configuration:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v421/configuration/guide/SNMP.html
Please note that at this time, you can only  enable email alerts from WAE on individual basis.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • WAAS Optimization problem

    Hello experts,
I have a problem about the WAAS optimization.
    The topology is...
Center: 7200 Router working with WCCP (512 WAE)
Edge: 2800 Router working with WCCP (612 WAE)
When i tried to reach the Database (behind the 7200 Router) from the Edge site. its working! but during this time, when i look the Current Connection status, there is no optimization traffic(you can see the attach file).
I have done this setup, demo etc. too many times, but the first time i encountered such a problem.
you can see the configuration at the below.
By the way, when i look the "show ip wccp" command output. there is no traffic on Service identifier 62. Do we  need to see increased this traffic?

  • Waas: problems with peers identification

    good days all.
we have got a problems with peers' identification in waas solution.
topology: 1 central-manager and 2 nme-502, both nme located in different location and subnets, and both see each other (pings are available from nme to nme). Version of solution 4.1.3b
But one device on the central-manager page in point "TFO Peer List Reported ByDevice" show ip for distant device, but distant device in the same point shows "There are currently no Peers to display".
    And no any optimization actions
All troubleshooting methodology and guidances are useless....
    with hope to help, thanks

Let's start by making sure that interception and redirection are working properly.  You can start with the troubleshooting guide here:
