WAAS 4.4.1 and Solidworks

All the Cisco documents say Solidworks works great with WAAS.   However we just moved the server from the remote location to the central data site (final phase of taking over a new company).     The 3 users running solidworks can copy the file just fine, but when they try to open a file in Solidworks they see "NOt Responding" in the file open window and the download takes 40-60 minutes, where file copies take 30-60 seconds.    Anyone have experience with Solidworks and WAAS?

Are you sure you have a 3G iPod?  If it is 8 or 16 GB model it is really a 2G iPod.  2G's can only go to 4.2.1.  Check here:

  • Adobe Acrobat 3D and SolidWorks 2006

    Hi there,
I was just wondering if anybody else experiences problems with Acrobat 3D and SolidWorks 2006. When I try to convert 3D models from Solidworks 2006 I get an error message: The file contains no displayable geometry.
Converting SolidWorks 2005 models causes no problems.
I am grateful for any help.
    Thx
    Daniel

    Hi,
    Thx for your replys too.
I put some sample files in the web, you can download them at:
    http://trshare.triumf.ca/~albers/
The frequency tripler is an converted SW2005 file. (no colours)
The BRF rotary mount files are a converted SW2006 file and a SW2006 sldprd file.
The laser beam is a sw2005 file and the converted pdf file.
I am using the programs on a Acer Notebook with a ATI X700 grafic card.
Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 2.6.87)
    Driver Date: 22.11.2005
    Driver Version: 8.201.0.0
    XP SP2
    SW2006 SP2
Adobe Acrobat 3D V7.0.7 Try out version
I tried different things to convert and the strange thing is Acrobat 3D can convert my SW2005 files but not the SW2006. Are the SW settings so important when you try to convert them in the explorer with right click and than convert to pdf? Because SW isn't started and all necessary informations should be in the file. So maybe it is the way my SW2006 files are saved.
I don't have my notebook with me at the moment but I will check the settings and put it also on the web folder for you.
Thank you very much and have a nice weekend.

  • FM 8 and SolidWorks drawings

    Hello:
Graphics are not my strong point and I've been tasked with updating some 2-D drawings for one of my manuals. I've spent an afternoon trying to re-create a rather simple figure without much success and I was wondering whether there is a way for me to be able to edit figures drawn in SolidWorks. I can get drawings from the designer but I'm not sure about which format to request them and what intermediate steps I might need to take. I am using Frame v8.0p277 and SolidWorks v9.0.0.706.
I'm learning so much from reading these posts and I'm hoping that not only can I find a solution but that someone else benefits, too.
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
Assuming that you have access to "real" Solidworks (and not eDrawing viewer) and Adobe Illustrator:
Arrange/rotate the desired 3D view of the model in SW.
Create a SW drawing file from the view (there are 2-3 steps to do this which I can't elaborate on right now as I don't have SW on this PC).
Save the drawing file in DXF format.
Open the DXF file in Illustrator (right-click the file and do "Open with..." or do "File/Open" within Illustrator)
Clean up and edit the drawing as necessary (add callouts, etc.).
Save the Illustrator file as either AI or EPS depending on your publishing environment.
Import the graphic file into FM.

  • LAbVIEW 2012 and Solidworks Examples update

    Hi,
I noticed that the examples shipped with NI Softmotion module is not updated (SoftMotion>Mechatronics). Although the directory has been changed, the example still points to LabVIEW 2009 folder. I also would like to ask whether these examples was tested with LabVIEW 2012 as it doesn't run with my machine which has LabVIEW 2012 and Solidworks 2010 SP4.
    Your help is much appreciated.
P.S: I apologize for double posting since no single reply was mentioned on Motion forum.

The problem seems to be with Scan Engine.
Here is a screenshot of the error mesage when deployment:
    Configuration:
    OS: Windows 8 Final
LabVIEW Version: 2012 with all updates installed
    NI SoftMotion Version: 2012
    Solidworks Version: 2010 SP4
I doubt the problem lies in OS as all examples are running flawlessly except that with Mechatronics Examples. Hope to get any response from NI SoftMotion Team. Thanks for your assistance in advance.

  • WAAS 4.1.15b and two windows domain

    Hi
I have two data centers and two windows domains (lets call them X and Y)- in data center X I have to WAE - CM and Core, in date center Y I have one configured as Edge and Core as well (peple in data senter Y have to access to resources in doman X).
In all remote offices are WAEs configured as Edge. Ale WAE are added to domain X.
All prepositions in domain X works fine.
I have created secound CoreCluster for domain Y, added WAE in date center Y as Core and one WAE in remote office as Edge to this CoreCluster, but preposition doesn't work.
On Edge WAE In logs /local1/logs/actona/RxLogging.log i can find only this:
    [2010-03-25 14:35:58,765][ INFO] - Preposition ID  929205 started on \\serverY\testfolder\.

I can ping this serverY from this WAE.
    The question is:
Is it possible to create preposition for two windows using this infrastructure ?
ps. I have to use lagacy services.
I hope that this is not so complicated

    James,
Thanks for the log files.  In the Tx.internal.log file, there is the following entry:

  • Labview and solidworks integration

    Hello!
I'm currently working on a project where we want to connect our logisticsprogram to a solidworksmodel to simulate how it would look in real life. Couse labview only controls the motors in the solidworks assambly I have to use 3d contact to lift a pallet with a forklift. 3d contact simulates two solids that works like in real life. When I run the simulation in Solidworks the contact works just fine after some settingproblem, but when I'm trying to do tha same movement with my labview testprogram the model seems to ignore the settings I just made and does not get a smooth movement. Se for your self in the video below.

  • W530 and Solidworks question

    Greetings!
I am currently a Industrial Design student that is seeking the right laptop for my needs. After much research, I have decided to get a Levano W530.
I have spoken to my teachers and they have told me that the most graphic and ram intensive program I will use is solidworks. Is there anyone here that uses that program and can recommend which upgrades fit your needs. 8 gig or 16 gig, ddr3 or pc3, k1000m or k2000m etc. I also saw the B&H photo is selling one for $1500. Is that a good deal for that price or should I configure it here from the levano website? The link is posted below.
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/903479-REG/Lenovo_24384cu_W530_Intel_i7_3520QM_8GB_500GB_W7W8_...
    Thanks!

    Hi there!
I run SW2013 on my w530 machine (i7-3720, 16Gb RAM, K2000). My previous machine was Sony VAIO (Core2Duo 2.2GHz, 4Gb RAM, general purpose Nvidia card) which performed fine with SW.
All depends on how complex your assemblies will be or how complex single part will be. For example, huge assembly requires more RAM, better video card. While part with complex curved surfaces, extensive use of patterning feature require faster CPU for processing and better video card for lagless rotation. If you're going to render a lot, the faster CPU the better.

  • WAAS design : fan-out and peers

    Hi,
does CISCO appliances WAVE-274 et WAVE-474 support the optimisation from branch to branch?
and how many peers branch-to branch it support?

The WAVE-274/474 platforms aren't intended for use in environments full mesh environments where there are a significant number of peer WAAS devices.  How many peer sites do you anticipiate the 274/474 will need to peer with in your environment?

  • WAAS- Optimization for OCS and Wireless traffic

    Hi,
I have been trying to find some information regarding optimization of Microsoft Office Communicator and Wireless traffic across a WAN environment via WAAS and its acceleration/optimization capabilities.
So far, I have seen the case studies section for WAAS but no case offers what I am looking for...
Do you have any information/documentation that can be shared with customers regarding OCS and Wireless as key business application that were benefited after  a WAAS deployment?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    M.

    Hi Manuel,
    Answers for you:
So we can  say that wireless traffic across a WAN link could not obtain any  benefits from any WAN optimization solution, in this case WAAS?
Ans: Nope. I do nto mean that. What I am trying to say is - it's a different thing. Wireless or no Wireless, optimization can be done when the traffic passes thru edge and core side WAEs. If it passes thru only one WAE, it will go in pass thru.
If  a wireless controller at a remote site needs to send traffic to another  wireless controller in a centralized or HUB site, can we optimize this  traffic or it will just  benefit from the overall reduction in bandwidth  as a result of any TCP based application getting optimized?
Ans: It really does not matter. The traffic really needs to pass thru WAEs on both sides in order to optimize. Whether it is from wireless controller or from any other devices, it really does not matter. Further the type of traffic and policies on WAEs will determine how much optimization can be done, if any.
OCS  uses SIP which is TCP based or ports 506x so I am assuming that SIP  could be benfited by WAAS unless OCS uses a secured session were SIP is  encrypted.: Yes, WAAS can help you but SIP is a voice traffic and there are default policies like VoIP on WAAS which will pass thru this traffic for port 5060. It's not a good idea to optimize voice traffic due to various reasons.

  • Softmotion and Solidworks simulation

I want to be able to simulate three bottles passing through a conveyor belt in labview, through solidworks. I already made the simulation in solidworks, but I can't figure out how to deploy and simulate the project successfully. I need the motors 5 & 6 to rotate, and the bottles to move in a straight line. I will attach the files, and hope someone can help me. I need to finish this really soon, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Adi, did you solved your problem meanwhile?
I have same problem with you saving animation with motion analysis.
After the simulatoin with soft motion is done, when I click 'play' in animation tab in solidworks, It plays well.
And you can see that there are yellow line on the time line which represents the motion of each links.
But after I click 'save animation' the yellow line on time line disappear and the joints doesn't work.
Because of that, I cannot save device working animation..

  • WAAS, wccp service groups and DC/Branch deployment

    Hi,
I have two design queries relating to wccp service groups and WAAS in DC and branch deployments.
Firstly, lets say at the DC end I use wccp service 61 (source address) on the WAN interface of my edge-layer switches. I configure the L3 interfaces on the same switches (connecting to the LAN side) to use use wccp service 62 (destination address). The WAEs are using L2 at the edge layer; with masking etc.
I've read that at the branch office you need to 'reverse' the service group setup - so that if I have the same sort of setup at the branch using 3750s and WAEs then the WAN interface should be using wccp service 62 and the LAN side using wccp service 61.
If I assume that is correct, then how does this affect things when two branches are communicating with each other (and they are both setup the same) - will be waas not be effective in this scenario? (Assume that the DC waas does not see any branch-to-branch communication).
What happens if you have a consistent design across your network (61 on WAN, and 62 at LAN interfaces across all WAAS sites)?
Secondly, when using L2 wccp redirection and masking; do most deployments leave the mask as default (0x1741)? I'm thinking that in some situations it might be better to have an entire geographic location covering a few branches being sent to the same DC end WAE. For example, I might want everyone on a /24 subnet in one branch to be using the same WAE/dre cache at the DC; rather than the possibility of duplicate dre caches on DC end WAEs service the same branch subnet (I realise that redundancy might be an advantage should one DC WAE fail).
Is there a table/calculator somewhere that can work out what mask I could use to cover /24 or /22 or even /16 subnets to direct requests to the same WAE at the DC?
    Thanks
    Cameron

    Cameron,
Excellent questions. Rule of thumb is to use source IP based load balancing, so in the branches 61/LAN - 62/WAN and in the DC 61/WAN and 62/LAN. That being said, if there is some site to site traffic at the edges, you may get some splitting, however, unless there is enough traffic to make it a "mini-dc", changing the services around is generally a wash. Also, if you only have a single WAE at the edge, it won't matter either.
On the mask, default mask is definitely not desirable. I generally use Calc and convert my desired Mask from Binary to Hex. The following examples are assuming 4 bit masks, but you can use from 1 up to 6 or 7 max bits if you need more buckets.
If you are looking to group /24, you could be 0xF00 or similar.
If you are looking to group /22, use 0x3C00 or similar
When calculating your mask, don't put your bits in the host bits, only in the network bits. Also, remember that the leftmost bit is usually the decision maker, so don't make it too far to the left or all your traffic will be on one WAE. The less WAEs in your WCCP cluster, the less bits you should use in your mask (allow some extras for fault tolerence).
    Hope that helps,
    Dan

  • WAAS 4.1.1c and MAPI acceleration

    Hi,
Have turned on everything which is possible, but MAPI acceleration monitor graphs are still empty. Does this mean that MAPI is not accelerated ?
What are the prerequesites for MAPI to work correctly ?

You should see the connections from the client to the server with the MAPI adapter applied. If it's already using MAPI AO, then you do not have encryption enabled. If they are all using generic or basic optimization, you can try the following on the clients.
Outlook 2000: Control Panel → Mail → Services tab → Microsoft Exchange Server → Properties
    Outlook 2003: Outlook / Tools / E-mail Accounts.../Change → More Settings → Security
    Outlook 2007: Outlook / Tools / Account Settings... / E-Mail tab / Change....
There are also ways to disable via global policy. I would try a few clients and see how they are set.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • WAAS 4.1.1c and HTTP acceleration

HTTP acceleration graphs remain empty. What is the cause of this ? Is HTTP not accelerated now?

Just an FYI but there is a bug associated with 4.1.1c and the HTTP accelerator.
CSCsv69306-Under certain conditions, HTTP clients whose connections are being optimized by HTTP accelerator can experience slow response.
I had to disable the HTTP accelerator for all my devices but I am now running 4.1.1d and it is enabled.
