WAAS at DR site
Hello,
We have implemented WAAS in an enterprise network. At HQ, we have 2 WAEs managed by a Central Manager and all branches are running WAE modules on 2800 series routers. All branch WAEs are registered on Central Manager at HQ. All is working well.
Now, when we are trying to implement same WAAS topology (2 WAEs with 1 CM) at DR site so that if HQ site is completely down and DR sites becomes active, our branch routers should work with Central Manager at DR.
The issue is how would it work? All branch WAEs are registered to an IP address of HQ CM. So, how would it work with DR CM in case of disaster?
Please suggest..
Thanks
Hi Again,
Normally : the primary has one address, the standby has another. They can be same subnet/VLAN or different - but not same IP-adress !
When the standby takes the primary role, it sends out information to all the WAE, because it basically has a synchronized copy of the CMS database. Therebye the WAE knows about the "new" CM. ... at least this is to my understanding.
Regarding your question about IP-addresses (of the WAE) and cached data :
These two things are completely independant.
If the HQ or DR WAE sees the traffic, and is the optimization peer), it will cache the traffic.
So the content of the cache is not dependant of the IP-address on the WAE itself.
All 4 WAEs should register to the same (primary) CM - thus the two WAE's at the DR site should NOT have the same IP addresses as the two at the main site (HQ).
So normally you'll have all 4 up and running (I assume, unless the DR site is a really cold site), they just wont see any traffic, as the servers aren't running there, but in the main site.
Best regards
Finn Poulsen

Config. recommended for MDS9216 and WAAS 7341
Hello,
i am testing for a customer datacenter replication with 2 MDS 9216i with Hitachi storage in each site. A WAN emulated with WAN BRIDGE with 155MB and delay 220ms. I have WAAS in each site.
Can you tell me the best recommendation to achieve the best performance ?? i am using WAAS in replication-acceleration mode.
Thanks and regards.
Leo.Thanks so much for your response.
yes, i am using 2 7341 with inline card from demo depot.un fortunally one 7341 has hardware problem then we are replace it by a 7326. we change to application acceleration with software version 4.1.3.b
i think the waas is working goog but my customer need more performance. we are using WAN-BRIDGE to emulate 155 mbps with 220 ms delay and we found that his performance goes down each day needing reboot.
Do you know any other application to emulate the wan ?
thanks so much again.

Does WCCP skew results of 'ip flow top-talkers'?
I have a router that has been configured to show ip flow top-talker information. I recently added a WAAS to this site that is using WCCP redirection. The 'top-talkers' output on the router still works - but shows source/destination of the router and WAAS device as the talkers for all traffic that has been redirected. I'm not able to see that actual client IPs for that traffic .. and that is the majority of my traffic. Is there any way to still be able to view this traffic as I did before? If I dump netflow to an actual netflow server instead of using top-talkers will that work - or will it display the same thing?
Router configuration:
interface multilink1
ip flow ingress
interface gi0/0
ip flow ingress
ip flow-top-talkers
top 25
sort-by bytes
Now when I do a 'show ip flow top-talkers', here's what I see: 10.10.11.18 is WAAS and 10.10.255.11 is loopback of the router.

Thanks!I believe the problem is caused because I have the WAAS appliance in the same subnet as users. I am using the 'egress-method negotiated-return intercept-method wccp' on the WAAS to send the traffic back to the router. This uses GRE, which is causing the cache flow data to show up the way it is.
I will have to move the WAAS to a different subnet and change the return method. -
Has anyone else experienced this? I have a remote site setup using a WAAS 574 in inline mode (connected to a 2811 router) and whenever I enable the CIFS Accelerator on the device (and the Central Office WAAS) the remote site end users start gaining access to each other’s files? Not all of them, just files that someone else was accessing recently. It seems like the CIFS Accelerator has recently accessed files cached and doesn’t check the User rights on Active Directory for some reason. I have CIFS disabled for now but I would love to re-enable it. FYI – The File Server being accessed is a MS Windows 2008 R2 will all Service Packs and Updates installed.
Hi William,
Do you know if this is a newly installed server and if Share
configured on this server are ABE (Access-bases Enumeration). If yes then
you would need to configure them as dynamic shares in WAAS. See below link.

New deployment 4.0 vs 4.1
We will be implementing a new deployment of WAAS at 5 sites to start in the next month. Does anybody have any recommendations whether to use 4.0.x or 4.1.x to start? Can anybody speak to 4.1's stability comparied to 4.0?
Thanks,
PatrickPatrick,
4.0.19 is running on a ton of networks and I consider it very stable. 4.1.1a has a TON of new features, but it's a little newer. I would weigh the new features against the slightly higher risk of newer code. Do you want additional features like additional application acceleration for HTTP, NFS, WMS Live Stream splitting, Centralized Print, Transparent CIFS (huge difference).
If your going with a new deployment, I'd probably recommend using 4.1.x, however you will probably perform at least one software upgrade in the next few months as the code stabilizes.
Hope that helps,

2851 IOS upgrade failed with WAE
Hello,
I have a strange situation with WAAS. I am in progress of a project to upgrade my Cisco IP telephony and as a result preferred to update my remote sites routers to 12.4.x T code in order to register DSP resources over SCCP and match closely the CMgr version as many of the sites running mainline code didn't have updated parameters for this. To make a long story short, I upgraded (for other reasons) several non-voice sites routers that have WAE 512s running 4.1.7 with the latest 12.4.xT code and didn't have an issue. All upgraded sites are running 2821's or 2811's except this one site I had an issue with. I needed T code on this particular site router and assumed since others sites reacted well with the IOS upgrade and WAAS that this site wouldn't be different but it was!
Situation: After updating this 2851 router from 12.4.25c mainline to 12.4.24T3, traffic from WAN was directing to WAE but no return. It appeared also that any LAN redirection was also working but no return from WAE. I didn't see any WCCP flow statistics incrementing but traffic was being directed to the WAE. WAE connection statistics were building but all TCP based traffic was getting dropped. I tried 3 different feature sets of same code version wondering if I've encountered a bug but none of the featured images worked. I downgraded to 12.4.24T2 and still nothing. Changed IOS back to mainline code and WAE was back operational as expected. During the testing of each IOS change, I've reset the WAE also hoping it didn't get hung up with some WCCP process from the previous IOS change in case there was some codebug occuring.
Layout:
With respect to this site, we have a 2851 with multilinked serial interfaces to MPLS; WAN interface is redirecting 62 in with an ACL that disallows a couple of hosts. LAN side of router is single Gig port (router on a stick). 5 sub-interfaces configured with DOT1Q encap. including one interface for WAAS. 2 of these user interfaces are redirecting 61 in and of course the interface servicing WAAS is redirect excluded in. The 61 WCCP group is also using ACL to oppositely match WCCP 62 group.
Why would this upgrade cause a problem especially using latest T code? Feature sets would be irrelevant. One more thing that makes this even stranger is I have one other voice site running a 2851 with 12.4.24T3 (already running) and is configured for WCCP the very same with same 512WAE and 4.1.7 code. The only difference is this router is running a "SP" feature set which I didn't try on this site that is failing.
Does this make any sense to anyone? I've seen posted from one of the WAAS experts a document listing compatible IOS version across platforms but these efforts are the latest code. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone. Thanks Bhavin.
Sorry, I've been traveling a lot lately for business and I haven't had a chance to respond. And it looks like I'll be heading out again for a few days. Meanwhile, I did want to say that I looked at a lot of these things and didn't see anything apparent. Egress methods show GRE Return. When I ran "show wccp flows tcp" I didnt' see any flow counts. However I could see packets redirecting at the router with "show ip wccp". I debugged events and packets and saw "See You" packets being sent back to the caching appliance. WCCP looked fine from the router's viewpoint. WCCP communications looked good rather. But anything getting redirected to the WAE would get dropped.
I don't have a chance right now to change IOS back to one of the non-working versions to get all of the info. but I will try soon. Unfortunately, the site is where my executives reside and it's always a tough situation to do anything there most of the time.
And to answer your question about having another configuration in place working .... yes I do. I have another 2851 with 12.4(24)T3, same WAE model with WAE-4.1.7 code and everything configured the same including connections as the site that isn't working. The only difference as mentioned before is that this working site router is running SP feature set which I know shouldn't matter but I didn't try a SP feature set however I went through ADV IP, ADV ENTER, and IP VOICE and neither worked with 2 different 12.4(X)Tx versions. I was grasping at straws at this point.
I figured I was going to need to get TAC involved when I could spare some time to run one of the non-working IOS images and could afford to not have WAAS working for the site but was hoping one of you guys might have seen something like this and could offer something to try to fix the issue. It is very odd indeed. I have other 28xx routers and all of the upgrades worked that aren't 2851's.
I'll post more info. when I can.
Thanks again!

WAAS 4.1.1c Upgrade causing issues with intranet site access
We recently upgraded to 4.1.1c and are now experiencing page not displayed errors when accessing our intranet site via the WAN. Disabling the HTTP AO fixes the issue, so I believe we may be experiencing bug ID CSCsv69306. Any idea when there will be a fix for this as we could really use the http acceleration since there is a significant amount of http traffic on our WAN.
Jeff,
If you are encountering CSCsv69306, then it's scheduled to be fixed in release 4.1.3 which is due out mid-late March.
Hope that helps,

I have a problem making a call from Isle of Man that has a 2900 router running CME 8.6 and a remote site Singapore that is on a UCS560, we have created a site to site VPN and can ping from either phone vlan to either phone vlan interfaces. The problem is that when I call from the Isle of Man site the call routes, rings on the remote phone and the user answers, they can hear the Isle of Man but the Isle of man cannot hear them... I hear you all say one way voice must be routing, well I cannot find where the error and like I say we can ping. I have added the singapore config as a starting point and we are calling from 0977 Isle of Man to 3123 Singapore.

endMost of the time this type of symptom is related to a routing issue or ACL.
I am thinking more codec.
your dial-peer 3150 with incoming called number .T will negotiate the codec betweeen IOM and Singapore (g729br8),
can you paste a show call active voice so we
this way we can at least ascertain what codec is used from IOM to singapore e2e
and what are the phones in singaport using internally?

Site to site VPN re-connection issue
Hi I done site -to -site VPN between two UC 560 and I am able to make call too. Both site I am using DDNS FQDN. Now I am facing these problems,
1. When ever any of the site gone down , it is taking around 45 minute to get reconnect the VPN.
2. With in 2 minute Dialer interface is getting WAN IP address from service provider and it is updating with Dyndns also. But while checking crypto session details from my local UC I can see the peer address is not changing or showing none.
please help me to overcome this issue
I tested by restarting ROUTER-A UC560
Please find the status of remote site:

i'm not familiar with Bordermanager version but be sure you're using 3.9
with sp2 and sp2_it1 applied.
There are not specific documents that i'm aware that explains conf
between ipcop and bm but if ipcop behaves as standard ipsec device, you
can use as a guideline some of the docs that explains how to configure
bm with third party firewalls.

Issue Uninstalling WAAS Mobile Client on Windows 7
I upgraded my laptop in hopes that issues pertaining to Vista would be resolved. Those issues remained, but was going to try to uninstall and reinstall under Windows 7 and check this for grins. I have tried to uninstall and get this error -

I've tried rebooting, but get the same error.

The quickest solution might be to try to reinstall followed by another uninstall, or to use the Windows Install Cleanup Utility, (although Microsoft has removed it from their support site with the following disclaimer).
Notice
This article previously contained a link to the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing a product other than Microsoft Office, please contact your software manufacturer for installation support on the product.
While the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center.
Nonetheless, here is an active link and basic instructions:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
1. To use the Windows CleanUp utility, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Install Clean Up.

UCCE 7.5.8 with CAD Agents sitting in India
Hi all,
I've got a scenario and am looking for some inputs.
I've got a centralized CUCM 7.1.3 with UCCE 7.5.8 and CAD 7.5.8. Today I only phones at our India office and all is working perfectly fine with no issues. I am looking into having CAD agents sitting at this office connecting UCCE environment back in California. I've done some testings with CAD agent installed in India and so far all is looking good. It takes about 60-80 seconds from the CAD login screen to completely login to CAD.My concern is the round-trip delay between Ca and India, it's about 290-300ms round-trip.
Questions:
Has anyone successfully deployed this type of scenario ? please share your experience !!!
Has anyone used WAAS to help accelerate CAD login process ?
Thanks in advance !!! and I appreciate any inputs/suggestions
D.[email protected] you know if CAD supervisor can monitor agent using CTIOS desktop ?
Here is your answer I hope it is useful for you .
UCCE 8.5 SRND page 198
Support for Mix of CAD and CTI OS Agents on the Same PG
Unified CCE deployments can support a mix of CAD and CTI OS agents on the same PG. If a mix is deployed, the sizing limitations of CAD apply.
Note that Cisco Supervisor Desktop (CSD) can monitor only CAD agents, and the CTI OS supervisor application can monitor only CTI OS agents.
Cisco Agent Desktop, Supervisor Desktop, and CTI OS cannot co-exist with Cisco CallManager PG; the configuration of agents and supervisors must be kept separate. Cisco Supervisor Desktop cannot be used to monitor a CTI OS agent desktop, nor can a CTI OS supervisor monitor a Cisco Agent Desktop agent.

we have a customer with 2 different versions of cisco waas
one is running 4.1 the other 4.0 both with their own CM
the CM of the 4.0 network should disappear and the sites should be migrated to the CM 4.1
the question is how to do this as for 4.0 you first have to do the devices before upgrading the CM and in 4.1 this is the other way around, first CM then the devices
is it possible that i first upgrade the devices, reboot and then assign them the new CM?With WAAS 4.1, the upgrade procedure has changed. The procedure described below should be followed:
1. Upgrade the standby Central Managers first (if any)
2. Upgrade the primary Central Manager
3. Upgrade all other WAEs.
In 4.1 upgrading devices configured for optimizatoin (Application Accelerator) to higher version than CM is not supported or recommended. So, pl follow the procedure described above. -
Hello experts,
I have a problem about the WAAS optimization.
The topology is...
Center: 7200 Router working with WCCP (512 WAE)
Edge: 2800 Router working with WCCP (612 WAE)
When i tried to reach the Database (behind the 7200 Router) from the Edge site. its working! but during this time, when i look the Current Connection status, there is no optimization traffic(you can see the attach file).
I have done this setup, demo etc. too many times, but the first time i encountered such a problem.
you can see the configuration at the below.
By the way, when i look the "show ip wccp" command output. there is no traffic on Service identifier 62. Do we need to see increased this traffic?
Thanks in advance for your help.

WAAS / WCCP service groups / L2 adjacencies
Hi all,
I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer on this one. I'm working on a WAAS deployment in a network with asymmetric routing. I want to deploy WAAS accelerators at two geographically dispersed data centre sites (head end). Do the WAAS boxes themselves need to be L2 adjacent with each other in this configuration? i.e. can the service group consist of two routers (one at each DC) and two WAEs (one at each site), with routed links between the DCs (WAEs in separate IP subnets)?
Something like:
- two routers (rtr-A, rtr-B)
- two WAAS accelerators (waas-A, waas-B)
- rtr-A and waas-A are L2 adjacent and use WCCP w/L2 redirection
- rtr-B and waas-B are L2 adjacent and use WCCP w/L2 redirection
- rtr-A and waas-B are not L2 adjacent and use WCCP w/GRE redirection
- rtr-B and waas-A are not L2 adjacent and use WCCP w/GRE redirection
Here's a quick diagram:
http://i4.tinypic.com/62nhf5u.jpg
(all links are L3/routed)
cheers!Dale,
There is no requirement for the WAE's to be L2 adjacent to each other. Note that the WCCP Forwarding Method is negotiated per Service Group -- so it can either be L2 or GRE. Based on your description, you would want to use GRE Forwarding.

Zach
