WAAS DRE with Hosted Exchange

We're currently looking at using a hosted Exchange environment. One of the major hurdles that we're looking at is how to deal with email attachments. If I send an email to the guy in the next cube, I sent it to the cloud, and when he opens it, he retrieves it from the cloud. This got me thinking; I know WAAS caches via DRE as described in the "Email Acceleration" section of this page; without a WAAS appliance on the Exchange Host provider side of things, will my WAAS appliance cache the attachment when I send it out to the hosted cloud, and then serve the cached copy to my friend when he opens the attachment?
In other words, would sending an email with attachment that passes through our local WAAS appliance enable the recipient of the email to open the cached copy instead of retrieving it from the cloud? In this setup, both the sender and reciever are behind the same WAAS appliance.

Unfortunately, DRE works on lower level than Exchange/Outlook application.
The cache is only populated if there is another device at the other side of WAN link
that has a chance to cache the same data and create saving in WAN usage if it
is transmitted again, in any direction. This happens transparently, the server does
not know there is caching on the way towards client and it is still sending full data out.
This is working with any TCP based application.
Your proposal would require to convince the server not to send the attachment over WAN
so it can be served from local cache, but that is completely outside of scope of DRE caching.

Issues with Hosted Exchange, UM and Lync 2013.

Hello everyone!
I am trying to deploy UM with Office 365 Hosted Exchange. We are using one Lync 2013 Standard Edition FE and have deployed one edge server. We have set up our firewall to host the Reverse Proxy.
We do not use wildcard certs. External DNS resolves the _sipfederation and sip._tls SRV records to the external face of the edge server. The edge server functions as it should for remote users and mobility.
I have tried to follow these instructions to the letter three times over to no avail.

Neither Snooper or Event Viewer show any particular issue, though when I try to dial out to voice mail I will get one to two rings and then 5 seconds of silence a fast busy, and finally "Call Unsuccessful".
When checking the firewall logs I notice a seemingly random 10.x.x.x address being sent to the firewall by the external leg of the edge server. Wireshark captures it as STUN packets on port 3478 being sent to port 3478. These are being dropped by our firewall.
I believe them to be RTP packets but I do not know if this is normal behavior. Has anyone any ideas?

Integrating CRM with hosted Exchange server that is not Office 365

I started out by setting up our domain, but it seems to be pushing me to add loads of DNS records so that Office 365 can use it. Firstly, do I have to use an Office 365 hosted Exchange, or can I use an alternative (my Exchange is hosted with COLT CEANO)
When I try and create an email server profile, I only have the ability to specify a name and description - the fields to specify incoming and outgoing servers etc. are not visible.
I expect I am doing something fundamentally wrong, can anyone assist ?

If you are refering to the email function in CRM, then you have 3 option
1. Server side sync
2. Outlook client
3. Email router
You can use your own exchange to send out email.

Q10 no syncing properly with MS Hosted Exchange server

Hello,
I have a Q10 and my email is via MS Hosted Exchange server. On my PC via Outlook 2010 all is great, via the web interface all is great. Current send/receive emails are synced properly, my calendar and notes/reminders are great.
My issue is my folder tree within the Q10 email environment doesn't display all of my folders. As emails come in I file them by customer to help with Inbox clutter...
I don't have a storage issue on the Q10. Any thoughts? Is there a max folder number setting somewhere?
If there is info on this somewhere, I couldn't find it...

Try to use FQDN of Cas server in URL and Add CASADMIN into all the three Exchage Roles: Recipient Management; View Only Organization Management; and Server
Management. Enabled the Windows Authentication on Exchange CAS Server for /powershell in IIS.

Syncing hosted exchange calendar to iPod Touch over USB won't update-

Wanted to post some helpful advice for anyone that may experience this issue.
If you use a hosted exchange service, and are stuck syncing your calendars and contacts to an ipod touch or iphone over USB, realize that iTunes will only sync the default calendars and contacts over USB, not shared folders. Itunes will give you the option to designate which calendar syncs, but the names in iTunes won't match what is named in outlook.
Have a difficult client who suffers from a mixture of tech hoarding, non-linear thinking, unwillingness to change behavior, tech anxiety, and ego. So there has been a lot of money and time spent to get him tools that help organize his life, and allow me to schedule things for him. I have him on a hosted exchange account so that I can have access to his most up to date appointments and contacts when he travels internationally (He won't leave AOL because he can save emails directly as Word files). His Palm treo (which was only being used as a PDA) was beginning to fail, so I recommended an iPod touch as a temporary, low-cost PDA alternative. He travels internationally in 6-8 month chunks, since it didn't make sense to commit to a superphone. He did it under condition that it would sync over USB, since he is in areas without wifi very often. I checked it on my iphone (since I'm synced to his exchange account), and it worked. So I gave the go ahead.
After some issues with changing out his computers while in Europe, he contacts me with issues that his calendar and contact options were not updating to the most recent information in outlook after syncing with USB. After a support call, I was told to restore the phone, so that everything was erased and would be reloaded with outlook info. After we did that, my client informed me that contacts were updating, but the calendar was missing, except for two events that I had accidently added to it from my iPhone. I called support, who took the issue to tier 2, and was outright told not to talk to me and referred me to my hosted exchange company. I mentioned that they would be unable to help me with why iTunes wasn't updating a calendar in Outlook. He apologized but said that Tier 2 wouldn't take the call, and because it was exchange they wouldn't help. This was with my client on the line in a skype conference, who became maddeningly upset, as he would need to find another PDA while in Europe. Since, my client has sworn off Apple, which I was beginning to lean him towards, due to it's robust OS and backup capabilities, as well as simplicity.
But that's neither here nor there. I noticed that the two events that I had accidently added were on the default outlook calendar, named (oddly enough) "Calendar". Due to issues with me when I setup exchange when we first got it, I had to tell him to use a shared calendar called "Calendar-New" so that him and I could view and edit his appointments from different machines. I was connected to my clients computer over VNC, so I saw that under the info tab in iTunes, where I had checked "Sync with outlook" that there was a second option to sync only certain calendars, and three were listed, ""Calendar", "Calendar-", and "Calendar-1". I asked the tier 1 rep to check to see what these meant, I may be able to redirect iTunes to the right calendar. He was unwilling to, as Tier 2 had yelled at him.
With that, we hung up, and, once I confirmed that his changes to Calendar could be seen on my end, and changes I made could be seen on his end, and that these events showed up on the ipod after he synced it, I realized that iTunes defaults to the default calendar in outlook. Yay!. I went ahead and dragged and dropped all of the events from Calendar-New to Calendar, and now the problem is fixed.
I really wish someone at apple support would have been willing to at least walk through this with me, or at least looked into how the sync works, Ashley in tier 2, shame on you for hanging up on my tier 1 rep! You lost a customer who buys a brand new computer every year. Reminds me of this story

I am an Solutions Engineer for a hosted exchange provider, and that is some good information.
I have not tested this out, but i will. I do remember when i had my ipod touch, that it would sync perfectly over WiFi, but i do not know if i ever tested this by USB.
You should also make sure your customer is on a hosted exchange service that uses Akami.

Can't send email from Apple mail using hosted exchange since upgrade to 10.5.8

I've got a client who just upgraded to 10.8. Since doing so he can recieve email but not send it for a hosted exchange account. He can send and recieve from his personal pop account. It is a wireless connection. I have tried the following without any success:
1. Verified all the config info was correct (server password etc) - no change
2. Deleted and re-added the account - same result
3. Deleted keychain data and readed the account - no change.
4. Ran disk utility (why not?) - no change
5. Removed an internet sharing app called open garden - no change
6. Installed 10.8.1 - no change
After trying all of this when we start mail everything looks good and then the outbound server abruptly goes "offline". The exchange host says there are no issues on their end. Internet works too. Email delivers/sends to his iPhone, iPad, and a home iMac that was also upgraded to 10.8.
Anyone with other ideas? This one has me stumped.

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP. My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all. The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck. (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.

Having consulted a Canadian privacy law expert, it seems that the law is clear that an offering from a Canadian owned company would not be subject to possible US government legally compelled provision of data, but it is far from clear that a US owned subsidiary
such as Microsoft Canada would be legally exempt as well. Will Microsoft allow its partners in Canada who currently sell O365 and hosted Exchange such as Bell to offer O365 hosted with them? That would resolve many legal difficulties that have arisen post-Snowden.
Does Microsoft or its partners have data centres in Canada that would support a) Office 365 for 20k user installations, and b) Azure applications?

Can I migrate users from a hosted Exchange 2010 to Office 365 Enterprise E1 without the need of third party software?

I am hoping I am posting to the correct forum. We are currently using a hosted Exchange 2010 service through Intermedia and due to continuing issues with them and the pricing, we are getting ready to migrate to Microsoft’s Office 365 Enterprise
E1 platform. My question is this, besides the fact that we will need to set up ADFS for SSO, will I be able to migrate our existing mailboxes from Intermedia to Office 365 without having to purchase additional software?
The current configuration we have with Intermedia allows for us to use OWA and our OST files for our current users are cached locally on the workstations.
We also do not have any public folders in use. I have searched the web, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer or steps that I should take to prepare for this type of migration.
Any suggestions on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you.

Recommend a hosted exchange service?

I am looking for a cheap hosted exchange account for 1 email address. I want it to be compatible with Entourage 2008, Outlook 2007, and my iPhone 3G. Has anyone achieved this?
Right now I use 1and1, but Entourage gives me sync errors.

Try Intermedia.net I have been using them forever and they are the best worldwide. But you will still have sync problems because Apple has screwed up AGAIN.....just read thru the gazillion of threads in this forum and you will understand that this new Version 2 and the new 3G phones are no were near to the status of having launched them as nothing works right yet. And believe me its not the fault of third party providers of Exchange services. These providers have been doing a great job for years with PocketPCs and even the iPhone prior to the version2 update. But it will take Apple some time to fix this royal mess.

Crashing when opening mail with attachments (exchange server)

I have a user using Mac OS X Mail with an Exchange Server. OS X Mail crashes when she opens an email with an attachment. Though it doesn't happen all the time, when it does crash there is an attachment with the email.

After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:

After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.

Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

Configuring tnsnames.ora / listener.ora with HOST = localhost

Dear Oracle experts,
presently I'm trying to configure an Oracle installation on a Win2k server
to work with HOST = localhost entries in my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.
I have to do that because I want to use that Oracle installation as an image
for several computers which will get different IPs and computer names.
My problem is, taht I only can configure my entries with a real IP adres (127.0.0.1 does not work ) or with the present name of the system but not with localhost or 127.0.0.1.
My listener.ora looks like below :

The listener above lead to a
ERROR - ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
if I try to connect via iSQLPlus. If I exchange HOST = localhost with HOST = mydnsname the I can connect to the computer via isqlplus.
Is there any possibility to configure the listener and tnsnames without using real IP adresses ?

But I cannot conect to my database....

Perhabs there's a bug I didn't fins yet. But if I replace in both files t(tnsnames.ora and listener.ora the "localhost" with my local IP it works just fine...

Exchange connector to hosted Exchange Server gives Connection errors in log.

I have setup the exchange connector within SCCM 2012 R2 CU3. Everything seems to work. I get the EAS connected devices discovered in the SCCM console.
The Hosted Exchange server I used is https://ps.outlook.com/PowerShell-Live-ID
Although everything seems to work i frequently get the following errors in the EASdisc.log:

Try to use FQDN of Cas server in URL and Add CASADMIN into all the three Exchage Roles: Recipient Management; View Only Organization Management; and Server
Management. Enabled the Windows Authentication on Exchange CAS Server for /powershell in IIS.

Outlook credentials enterprise persistence vs logon session persistence - hosted Exchange

We moved from an internal AD integrated Exchange 2010 environment to an external hosted Exchange 2010. Prior to the move credentials were passed through and never needed. Since the move a large number of Outlook clients have not been storing
credentials correctly. The credentials show up in the windows credential manager with "Logon Session" persistence which means they disappear after the next logoff or restart. The option to remember credentials is checked when Outlook
prompts the user. Client machines are Windows 7 SP1 x64. For Outlook 2010 14.0.7015.1000 I did not find a fix. A workaround I've come up with on Outlook 2013 15.0.4569.1506 is to manually recreate each of the credential manager entries created
by Outlook via "add a generic credential", which then stores them with "Enterprise" persistence which keeps the info across logoffs/restarts. This solves the problem until the password expiration hits in 90 days at which point the
new info has to be reentered into the credential manager. These are the three generic credentials entries I am manually typing into the credential manager including the parentheses character for character, with the user's full email address as username
in each case to gain enterprise persistence:

Why is enterprise persistence not happening automatically when the user checks the option to remember the credentials at an Outlook prompt?

Solved, it was a MS patch. After removing the KB2956087
the problem disappeared.

Using MS Outlook settings to set up Evolution with an Exchange server

I am currently using Outlook with an Exchange server, and I would like to use Evolution instead. I installed evolution and evolution-ews, and in going through the initial account setup, I am asked for a host URL and an OAB URL. I'm not sure what these are and can't find them in Outlook. Surely these paths are stored somewhere in Outlook, right?

When I used outlook before, I was able to log in through a web browser as another way to browse my mails when away from the office. The example in the link was
https://server-ip.com/exchange
which is the same as I was able to use. Of course, I am almost sure the address can be different. With my limited knowledge, I would recommend just entering your credentials in Evolution and click "Authenticate". If all goes well, you should then be prompted for your password. If you don't have that option, try to login to that address from your web browser. If not, maybe you can get in touch with IT or the server admin to see if the outlook server is setup to allow webdav and if in fact that is the correct address.

Novell Groupwise to Hosted Exchange Migration

We are looking to migrate a client from Novell Groupwise Email to Hosted Exchange. It seems the only toll available to assist with this type of migration is the following:
