WAAS network module and 2821 router?

What WAE network modules will work in a 2821 router? This 2821 has a dual-T1 Multipoint connection back to our data center and I know that the users will benefit greatly from WAAS, but I'd rather not have to upgrade the router to a 3800 just to install a WAE module

NME-WAE-502 will give you full functionality with the enterprise licence. This is the NME that is the most widely used for WAAS.
NME-WAE-302 is available, but only supports the transport license which give you TCP optimizations only (no application AO support).
NME-WAE-522 is only supported in the 3800 series routers.
Hope that helps,
Dan

  • WAAS Network Module IP address question

I've read the instructions for configuring a WAAS Network Module but I don't understand what IP space I'm suppose to use.
    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v403/module/configuration/guide/wsnmecfg.html
My 2821 has g0/1 as the LAN connection and s0/1 as the WAN link
    g0/1.1 - 10.1.1.1 /24
    g0/1.4 - 10.1.1.4 /24
    s0/1 - 192.168.1.1 /30
Do I need to allocate a new subnet for interface service-engine1/0?  Or can is be an IP address in my 10.1.1.1/24 subnet?  What's the best practice?
If it's a new subnet then I assume I need to add it to eigrp, right?
Here is the sample from the Configuration Guide...
    interface service-engine1/0
ip address 10.0.0.20 255.255.255.0  <--- does this have to be it's own subnet, what's best practice?
service-module integrated-service-engine ip address 10.0.0.30 255.255.255.0 <-- this has to be in the same subnet as above, right?
    service-module integrated-service-engine ip default-gateway 10.0.0.20 <-- is this always the "int service-engine1/0" IP?
Sorry for the shotgun question approach.  Thank you in advance.

    Hi Tod,
The most common scenario is to allocate a new subnet for the module.  Since the module will need IP connectivity to the Central Manager, you should advertise it via EIGRP (or whatever routing protocol you are using).
Here are the answers to your command specific questions:
ip address 10.0.0.20 255.255.255.0  <--- does this have to be  it's own subnet, what's best practice?
    > See above.  The most common scenario is to allocate a new IP subnet.
service-module  integrated-service-engine ip address 10.0.0.30 255.255.255.0 <-- this  has to be in the same subnet as above, right?
    > Yes.  This is the IP address that is assigned to the NME-WAE.
    service-module  integrated-service-engine ip default-gateway 10.0.0.20 <-- is this  always the "int service-engine1/0" IP?
    > Correct.

  • Fast EtherChannel between Catalyst 3750 and 2821 Router

    Hi Guys
I'm trying to setup a Fast EtherChannel between a cat3750-smi and a 2821 router that consists of only 2 links.
    I am following instructions per TAC, but I'm getting an error along the way;
    On the cat3750:
    interface port-channel 1
    no switchport
Command Rejected: Not a convertable port
    Can anyone help???
Also... do the IP Addresses for the EtherChannel need to be the same for both port-channels? Or do I assign the switch like 192.168.1.1 and the router 192.168.1.2 ?
    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
The ip address cannot be same but it should belong to same subnet. So one side 192.168.1.1 and other side 192.168.1.2 will work fine.
Its better to convert your layer 2 port as a layer port fist so what you do the port which you want to be port channel go that that interface and convert with "switchport" command
once it is a layer 3 port configure with channel group and automatically layer 3 port channel will be created and you can sssign an ip address then.
Just give a try and update if it works.

  • ♕ Does Meraki Deliver Sourcefire, WAAS, Prime, ISE, and basic Routing in 1 Box?

Rob Boyd on TechWiseTV: Meraki and the Cisco Cloud coming to the realization himself that Meraki is misunderstood within Cisco as a niche SMB product.
Does a Meraki MX100 (500Mbps/500Users) Security Device acting as the layer 3 Ethernet aggregation switch and WAN gateway deliver the following all in 1 dashboard under 2 affordable part#’s without installing a single server?
    L7-ALG/ Firewall
    Basic Routing
    ISE
    SourceFIRE
    Prime/ LMS
    WAAS
    Websense
    4G failover backup capability

Thanks for the feedback Collin.  Would you be able to help me understand the value of getting Cisco System vs Meraki Security Device.  Nothing too specific.  I simply had a look at the MX100 and was impressed at the leaps in innovation.  Colin what are you concerns regarding the MX100?

  • 3945 Router Issue between WAAS Module and IOS Firewall

I have a new 3945 router with a SM-SRE-900 module for WAAS. The 3945 also has IP inspection configured. When IP inspection and WCCP redirection running at the same time, user connections to data center were all lost. If just IP inspection or WCC Rredirection but not both, user connections were good.
I'm feeling the problem is IP inspection not WAAS aware. I tried "ip inpsect waas enable", but the command was not available. The 3945 router, SM-SRE module, and the IOS code, are all newest versions. So I was wondering if anyone has seen the similar issues and had experience of enabling WAAS through IP inspection on those new products.
    Here is the configuration info:
    3945 G2 ISR: IOS 15.1(1)T1;
    SM-SRE-900: WAAS 4.2.3 build7;
3945 LAN interface: ip inspection in and ip wccp 61 redirect in
3945 WAN interface: ip wccp 62 redirect in
3945 SM 1/0 interface: internal connection to SM-SRE module
Between 3945 and SM-SRE module: WCCP GRE redirection and IP Forwarding return.
If you are aware of any 15.1(1)T1 bugs that may be related, please let me know too.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
This is in general for IOS / ISR. On CCO we have a very good document for ZBFW and WAAS intigration, see below
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/sec_data_plane/configuration/guide/sec_zone_polcy_firew_ps10592_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html#wp1118498
If you still need to run CBAC, then recommended solution in my first post should work for you.
If the router is in the middle of TCP optamization path, then depending upon optamization product you need to configure the firewall feature like anyother firewall. for Cisco WAAS we have "ip inspect WAAS enable".
Hope this has answer your question. Thanks.

  • L2TP network server 2821 router?

Can 2821 router with appropirate IOS image be L2TP network server and support 400-500 L2TP simultaneous connections? We want to use access VPDN that uses L2TP as tunneling protocol to provide remote users access to our services and to the Internet.

    Hi Marija,
That's right, the 2821 can be used as an L2TP server (LNS or LAC).
It supports 900 IDBs, which means that you can provide access to around 900 remote-users. Also, it supports a maximum of 880 L2TP sessions/tunnels.
You can find detailed information on the following link:

  • Connecting Cisco 2821 Router, Switch, and Cable Modem

    Hey everyone,
I am currently in the Cisco Network Academy at my school and just finished CCNA 1.  I have a few questions though.
I am purchasing new equipment and that equipment includes:
    1-Cisco 2821 2-port Gigabit Router
    1-Linksys SE3016 16-Port Gigabit Switch (unmanaged)
    1-Cisco WAP4410n Wireless Access Point
1-Motorla SurfBoard Gigabit Cable Modem (no router built in-Just standalone Modem used with Comcast Xfinity High Speed Internet)
    1-12U Network Rack (not enclosed)
I am confused on how I will connect the cable modem to the router and the router to the switch and the WAP so that I still have WiFi. Since the router only has 2 Ge Ports, how would I cable this up?
If my assumptions are correct, would I do the following set up?
Take the Cable Modem and run a Straight Thru to Port 1 of the Router.
Connect the Switch Port 1 to Port 2 of the Router using a Straight Thru cable (I believe I will most likely have to Subnet a network, won't I?).
Connect Switch Port 2 to WAP using Straight Thru Cable (so I still have WiFi in my home).
Connect all my computers and other devices to the Switch (this includes several PC's/Laptops, two printers that are ethernet, two TV's that are ethernet, an AppleTV and a Blue Ray Player that are both ethernet, and some Cisco Powerline Network Adapters).
    Will that set up work?
Also, how would I configure the router to work with my cable modem AND act as a DHCP Server so that all of my devices get IP Addresses? I have the Cisco Command Guide Book, but it is confusing to me as of now.
    Thanks!
    Chris

A good start but a few points I would make.
If you set the clock manually, you may find it resets itself after a router reboot. I would look at pointing it at an NTP server:
    #ntp server x.x.x.x
#clock timezone GMT (Assuming you are UK based)
Although not required, I would put a description on each of the interfaces as it may help identify them later if you are not physically in front of the Router.
    #interface gi0/0
    #description WAN
    Same for LAN
You have set up your LAN subnet with a /16 subnet mask which is effectively 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.255.254. This is a large subnet allowing over 65k hosts which is not best practice on enterprise networks. It probably won't cause you any issues but I doubt you will have any more than 254 hosts so personally I would use a /24 subnet (255.255.255.0)
The only major thing missing is NAT which needs to be configured on the router to translate the LAN IP addresses from their 10.* private range to the Public IP address on the Gi0/0 WAN Interface.
Firstly you need to define the 'inside' and 'outside' NAT interfaces which is fairly self explanatory:
    #interface gi0/0
    #ip nat outside
    #interface gi0/1
    #ip nat inside
Gi0/0 is your outside interface because its facing the Outside world (i.e the internet) and Gi0/1 is your inside interface because its facing Inside your LAN.
Then you need to tell the router which addresses to translate against by first creating an access list:
    #ip access-list standard LAN-Addresses
    #permit 10.0.0.0 0.0.255.255
Finally you need to tell the router to start translating:
#ip nat inside source list LAN-Addresses interface gi0/0 overload
Oh, I have just noticed that you do not have a 'default route' configured. A router forwards packets by first looking up the destination IP address of the packet (i.e where its going) in it's own routing table. Obviously home routers are not going to have an entry for every Public IP subnet on the internet so they use something called a default route which effectively says 'If I cannot find an entry for this packet in my routing table, use the default route'.
As you are on DHCP and your IP address (and even default gateway) could change on your WAN interface, I would not bother with the next hop address in the default route but rather use the outgoing interface as below:
    #ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 gi0/0
    Hope this helps!

  • I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network

I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network so the Apple TV can do home share.

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.  To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open.  It also needs to be on the same network.  My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not.  He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band.  Hope this helps.

  • Connection between Wireless network (shared) and wired network through a router/modem

I have a windows 8.1 X64 installed on my pc. i have connected a USB wireless network adapter to it so that i can connect to another wireless
network. my internet connection comes from this device as well.
I've got a Modem/router/AP (TD-W8970) and i set it up to work as wireless router with DHCP server enabled. i wanted to share my internet
connection that comes from wireless network adapter in home so i did the followings:
    1. connected the WAN port of my router to the Ethernet port of my PC.
    2. in windows' network adapter settings i shared my wireless network adapter's connection with the Ethernet port.
now i can connect with my laptop to my wireless router and use internet connection that is being shared by PC's wireless adapter but i
can't connect to the PC in order to have a home group with it or use the shared files/folders in PC.
    More Details:
    Wireless network adapter local settings:
    IPv4 Default Gateway/ DNS server/ DHCP server = 192.168.1.1
    IPv4 address: 192.168.1.4 - IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Ethernet
    port settings:
    IPv4 address: 192.168.137.1
    IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 .
my question is how to make that connection like a LAN and what configuration do i need to apply on both router or PC.
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Please try the following steps for test to configure your network sharing.
    1. Open CMD, type ipconfig/all. Then remember USB wireless card DNS server address.
    2. Open Network Connection, Change Adapter settings, USB adapter properties, check network sharing.
    3. Open Local network connection, generally speaking, Router's default lan address is 192.168.1.1, you can asign the desktop PC IP as 192.168.1.2.
    4. Access into Router management interface, then enable router's DHCP service. Set its gateway same as sharing host address, DNS server same as USB wlan's DNS server address.

  • Cisco 2821 router IOS and Ipsec

Hi all.I was wondering can you create VPN tunnels using Ipsec on a 2821 router if you have only the IPBASE image(the basic image 2821 router comes with) on the router or do you need some other version of IOS?
I've gone totally nuts trying to find out but can't seem to find an answer. Thanks in advance.

    Igor
You can not create IPSec tunnels if the 2821 is running the IP BASE image. You need a feature set that supports crypto to do IPSec. In general image names that include k9 in the image name will support crypto. You probably would want the Advanced Security feature set or the Advanced IP Services feature set, both of which do support crypto and do support IPSec tunnels.

  • I have a D-LInk router that has lost my network name and protection. How to I re-set it up?

THe protected network name is gone and now my computer just shows me connected to "dlink"
How do I re-set it to the protected network?  I tried to use a "wizard" i found on the net but it said the emulator wouldn't work and to go back to the CD. I have no idea where the CD is

I got to the page but it did not seem to give me an option to do what I want. I could see how to reset the ROUTER ADMINISTRATION password (for which right now there is none) but there as nothing about setting up my network name and password, which was lost.  Or is this the same thing as the router configuration password?  (I was thinking that referred to a password that would allow me to change router settings)

  • Using Fieldpoint Explorer, I am having trouble configuring outputs on my RLY-420 and PWM-520 modules attached to an FP-1000 network module

I have noticed that I can not get my Relay module to turn off all of the channels, also I can only set the PWM modules down to ~4% output.
I have tried to "Reset" the factory defaults on the FP-1000. I've tried to configure the powerup states of the different modules, all with no luck.
I have made sure I am running with the latest firmware on the FP-1000
I did notice this problem before upgrading the firmware. Immediately after doing the upgrade the problem went away for a short while. Now it is back again.
My system is configured as follows:
    1 FP-1000 network module @address 0
    4 FP-TC-120 modules @1,
    2, 3, 4
    2 FP-TB-10 dual channel bases @ 5, 6
    2 FP-PWM-520 modules @ 7, 8
    1 FP-RLY-420 module @ 9
Something seems to me to be happening with my .iak file in FieldPoint Explorer, of course I could be completely off base.
I appreciate any insight anybody might have with this problem

    Kerry,
There are several different things that may be going on here. First of all, there may be an issue with power consumption. A network module (FP-1000 in this case) is designed to source up to 9 Watts of power to I/O modules. This assumes an average of 1 Watt per module. Certain modules require more than 1 Watt, most require less leaving extra power for the ones that require more. In your configuration, you may be over this depending upon how your FP-TB-10's are populated. Assuming that the TB-10 is unpopulated, your consumption is 4 * 0.35 + 2 * .25 + 2 * 0.6 + 1.7. = 3.8 Watts. Thus, the load from the Dual Channel modules may not exceed 5.2 Watts. If you are using exclusively the Dual Channel Analog Out Current modules, you will overload the power supply.
    Anothe
r thing to look at is when resetting the network module, check the box that says factory configuration. After the reset, uncheck the box and then configure your channels and power-up values (edit this device on each module).
Also, there are some times when relays may get "stuck" in an on position due to extremely high inductive loading. I have not seen that happen very frequently, but it does make me wonder, what type of load are you driving on the relay channels?
The PWM module, has 12 bit resolution, and will accept values of 0% for the output duty cycle. What value for the period have you set?

  • Content Engine Network Module for Caching File Server Objects

We have a content engine network module for a 2821 router located at a branch office that we'd like to use for clients to obtain locally cached file objects from a Windos server located at our headquarters or corporate office. I've been looking for some sample configs or documentation that will show me that this is possible and on how to do it since this is my first time ever doing. All I was able to find so far was the link below under "Support of Preloading of NTLM Authenticated Objects", but it seems incomplete in providing configuration tasks that most CCO doc's usually provide. Has anyone else had any luck finding some useful doc's or sample configs to get this accomplish? Thanks in advance.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/webscale/uce/acns55/55ldg/urlfiltr.htm#wp1158213

You can't cache Windows Files using the Cache Engines.
You CAN do this using WAFS though. I'd suggest looking at the WAFS (or upcoming WAAS) products, which use WCCP like the Cache Engines to transparently redirect Windows File Sharing requests.

What can I do? Cause I followed the instructions in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netcfg
and ended up with no network
Also how can I generate a new rc.conf.packnew?
    Here is my  rc.conf
    cat /etc/rc.conf.packnew
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    # LOCALIZATION
    # LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
    # DAEMON_LOCALE: Set the locale during daemon startup and during the boot
    # process. If set to 'no', the C locale will be used.
    # HARDWARECLOCK: set to "UTC" or "localtime", any other value will result
    # in the hardware clock being left untouched (useful for virtualization)
    # TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
    # KEYMAP: keymaps are found in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps
    # CONSOLEFONT: found in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts (only needed for non-US)

The problem was in rc.conf. Im posting the file with the fix, the network modules were being loaded in the wrong order on the modules array and I think I had a module missing. Anyway posting it:
    # CONSOLEFONT: found in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts (only needed for non-US)
    # CONSOLEMAP: found in /usr/share/kbd/consoletrans
