WAAS Off-Path DEPLOYMENT

Hi all
If we have regonal site connected to H.O using main WAN link and on connected to branches on another router. can we use one WAAS box to optimize both traffic to H.Q on router 1 and traffic coming from branch on router 2 using WCCP ( by connecting first WAAS Physcal port to router 1 and the second port to router 2)
Thanks,

Thanks Zach for your reply,
Sorry i didn't mention that in regional office we have two routers one is connecting remoter branches and second one connected to H.Q, so in this case we will use one WAE physical port to be connected to router connected to Branch and the second physical port to be connected to the second router ?
Thanks,

• WAAS Deployement : Inline Vs Off-path

Hi All,
I would like to get your expertise on deciding  suitable deployement method.
We have to deploy the WAAS solution between a DC and 70+ branch locations ( expected TCP connections in each <= 200) which are connected through provider managed MPLS cloud . Decided to use WAE 7341 (with WCCP redirection method)as the WAE in DC side but when it comes to branch side still thinking between INLINE ( WAVE 274) vs WCCP (ISR router with NME) . Basically , would like to understand more about ..
a) Difference between Inline and Off-path deployement in all aspects.
b) Does inline deployement with WAVE 274 ( has 2 NIC ) passes through the traffic in case of Power / device failure
We have been did PoC with WCCP method , it was very stable and got good respone. We would like to use inline method as it is the  low cost solution, if it can provide same level STABLITIY + RESPONSE.
Regards,
Maria

Hi Maria,
I don't know exactly which aspects you are interested in but usually, WCCP is used when we want to spread the load over multiple WAE as it is easier to achieve then with Inline interfaces.
Now, as in your case, you'll be only using one NME, so it doesn't apply.
Another difference is that the module is integrated inside your router while the WAVE obviously isn't so it will require additional cabling in your network.
Inline acceleration will not add any processing load to your router while WCCP will. Even if this load increase might not be that high, you might want to think about it if your routers are already heavily used.
If you have any other aread you would like to get more info on, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.
Regarding your question on what would happen if the WAVE gets powered off or fails completely, the inline interface has an hardware bypass mechanism that will kick off if this occurs and the device will simply start bridging the traffic between the two sides of the interface, preventing a network outage.

Nicolas

• WAAS - Can I mix & match inline and off path installations?

Hi - I'm designing a WAAS solution which requires that I deploy the Data centre WAE inline (the core switch is a 3750 which doesn't support WCCP). I plan on using NME modules on the branch sites. Is this mix and matching of deployments permitted or will I run into problems.
Many Thanks :)
Dom

Dom,
Absolutely, you can mix and match. As a matter of fact, a lot of implementations are the opposite with inline at the edge and WCCP at the core. You should have no trouble with this at all.
BTW, the 3750 DOES support WCCP v2 at line rate (i.e. in hardware) with newer versions of IOS if you want to try it. It requires L2 adjacency to the WAEs and the WAEs need to be configured w/L2 redirect/L2 return and mask assign. The 3750 needs to have redirect in on the interfaces and a routing SDM template configured.
Hope that helps,
Dan

• WAAS Inline & HSRP Deployment

I'm running in a problem where auto-discovery is failing. We have remote-offices with one router and one wae in inline deployment, so far so good, this works perfect.
On the Main-Office we have two routers for redundancy, on the lan site we use hsrp.
Can I use both inline-cards two for each router ?
-----|- inlinegroup1---hsrp-router1-|--mpls
lan--|- inlinegroup2---hsrp-router2-|
or do I have to put both routers behind one pair of inline-card ?
-----|- inlinegroup1-|-hsrp-router1-|
lan--|- inlinegroup1-|-hsrp-router2-|--mpls
Kind Regards
-Lukas

Lukas,
If traffic for a connection flows asymmetrically through both inline groups, then CSCsk47177 can prevent optimization. This is schedule to be fixed in the next WAAS maintenance release.
Thanks,
Zach

• Looking for the Proper WAAS Upgrade Path

              A while back I started upgrading some of our WAAS 274/574 devices and once I got halfway through I relized I was on the wrong path to get the devices to accelerate and compress Native ICA for our Citrix sessions.
So Currently I have half our devices at 4.3.3c and the other half at 4.4.7
So my questions are....
What is the latest greatest version that I should be at for Native ICA Acceleration?
What is the best upgrade/downgrade path I should take to get there?

Dan,
It is recommended/required to run 4.2.1 (or a later version) before you install Version 5.3.1
You cannot upgrade from 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2 to 5.3.1 since it is NOT supported
Here you have a link about it:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v531/release/notes/ws531xrn.html#wp63349
Please see the hardware specifications
Hope this helps!

• WAAS and 512 Deployment

Attach is the Visio as well as config for the India site. The Visio has 2 tabs (POC-WAAS and Proposed-WAAS). The POC (Proof of Concept) tab does not have the spare 3660 installed yet but I plan to do that soon. The "Proposed WAAS" is where we would want to be. However, my question will most likely address POC tab with the preparation to move to the Proposed tab.
Current assumptions:
Since we have a Manager in India, we will be getting another Manager in Calif, If so, I would like to setup a Primary/Standby deployment for redundancy.
Questions:
1. For Calif Primary WAE, the visio shows a Management interface but do I need a management interface or is it better to go with a standby interface instead as well as use MHSRP?
2. Since we have a high speed link (4 Mb Internet for VPN in POC but 10mb WAN for proposed), should we tune the buffers to the max? If so how?
3. Is this a recommend design for California? for India?
4. Is my configs a recommend configs for California 3660 in POC? If so, what do I need to change in 3825 in Proposed?

Zach
After reading the SRND, I believe the best design is to move the 512 to the Cores. Please see the updated Visio and planned configs. Here's my updated requirements:
1. Calif is hub
2. All traffic to India (10.2/10.26) should go through the VPN tunnel through (ASA5520)
3. All traffic to 10.3 and 10.5 should go through WAN via (R-Voice2)
4. Latency to India is btwn 280 to 340msec and BW is 2mb. Do I also need to be concern with the BDP, L2 redirect(forwarding), and Mask assignments?
TIA

• WAAS SAPGUI - Global Deployment

Looking for any feedback or metrics that may have been gathered by others as part of analyzing the benefits of WAAS when accessing a single instance of SAP for a global user base. Bandwidth reduction per user, TFO metrics, end user response time measurements, etc. Most of the available Cisco/SAP WAAS analysis is focused on the HTTP version of SAP not the SAPGUI client.

This might help.

• WAAS and IP SLA operation

we are currently using the IP SLA udp jitter measurement to monitor our voice paths accross the WAN. If we implement a partial WAAS across the same WAN the voice traffic will be acellerated but not the IP SLA jitter measurement. Does this mean that when WAAS is implemented IP SLA is limited in its use?

Hi Steve,
The answer to your question depends on 1) how you deploy WAAS and 2) how you use IP SLA.  If you deploy WAAS using WCCP for interception, UDP traffic will never be intercepted.  If the WAAS device is deployed inline, all traffic flows through the WAAS device, so an IP SLA probe using UDP will be subject to WAAS pass-through handling behavior.
What are you trying to measure with regards to WAAS?

• Simple Deploy problem- making an Executable JAR File ...PLEASE HELP

Hi all,
I Trying to deploy a simple J2SE app by making an Executable JAR File, however I don'r understand how to add a valid value to the Main Class field.
I followed the following description within Jdev, after creating a Deployment Profile:
Deploying an Executable JAR File
You can make your simple archive or J2EE Client Module into an executable JAR file that you can launch with the java command.
To deploy an executable JAR file:
1) Select and right-click the simple archive or client icon in the Navigator to display the context menu.
2) Choose Properties.
3) Click JAR Options in the tree.
4) Select Include Manifest File (META-INF/MANIFEST.MF).
5) In the Main Class field, enter the fully qualified name of the application class that is to be invoked.
7) Click OK.
8) Launch the executable JAR file from the command line:
java -jar myapp.jar
where myapp represents your JAR file name.
Like I said it's in 5) I'm doing something worng
My deploy-file (PlotPrint.deploy) looks the following:

Yes that was the problem so I have changed the element mainClass to
<mainClass>xxPlotPrint.MHCI.PlotPrintClient</mainClass>
But now another probem has occured, since I get the following error when run the jar-file (When I run the app from within Jdev there are no warnings or errors).
----Batch-file-----

• OSB Error in deploying a project with jca file adapter

Hi,
I am facing an issue where I am getting an error when deploying a service from Eclipse. I am using OSB/SOA 11.1.1.5 2 node cluster. I have an OSB service where I am writing to a file and am using file adapater. I created a composite with file adapter to write a file then imported .jac, .wsdl and composite into eclipse and generated a business service out of .jca file. When I deploy the project from eclipse I am getting the below error and am not able to deploy the project.
Conflicts found during publish.
Invalid JCA transport endpoint configuration, exception: javax.resource.ResourceException: Cannot locate Java class oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileInteractionSpec
Cannot locate Java class oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileInteractionSpec
I have FileAdapter deployed and pointed to OSB manage servers cluster. Here is a snippet of config.xml.
<app-deployment>
        <name>FileAdapter</name>
        <target>SOA_Cluster,OSB_Cluster</target>
        <module-type>rar</module-type>
        <source-path>/app/oracle/fmw/Oracle_SOA1/soa/connectors/FileAdapter.rar</source-path>
        <deployment-order>321</deployment-order>
        <plan-dir xsi:nil="true"></plan-dir>
        <plan-path>/app/oracle/shared/SOA_Cluster/dp/FileAdapterPlan.xml</plan-path>
        <security-dd-model>DDOnly</security-dd-model>
        <staging-mode>nostage</staging-mode>
      </app-deployment>
Also inside console -> deployments  -> FileAdapter -> Targets and OSB_Cluster is checked also.
Here is the .jca file
<adapter-config name="writeFile" adapter="File Adapter" wsdlLocation="writeFile.wsdl" xmlns="http://platform.integration.oracle/blocks/adapter/fw/metadata">
      <connection-factory location="eis/HAFileAdapter"/>
      <endpoint-interaction portType="Write_ptt" operation="Write">
        <interaction-spec className="oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileInteractionSpec">
          <property name="PhysicalDirectory" value="C:\ORACLE"/>
          <property name="Append" value="false"/>
          <property name="FileNamingConvention" value="a_%SEQ%.doc"/>
          <property name="NumberMessages" value="1"/>
        </interaction-spec>
      </endpoint-interaction>
</adapter-config>
Any idea what might be wrong.
Thanks.

I already have the fileAdapter JNDI is already configured in console. The error I am getting is during the deployment
Conflicts found during publish.
Invalid JCA transport endpoint configuration, exception: javax.resource.ResourceException: Cannot locate Java class oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileInteractionSpec
Cannot locate Java class oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileInteractionSpec

• BPEL Process Won't Deploy

I've tried deploying several processes to our BPEL Server, using 3 of the 4 supported ways.
First I tried deploying the local HelloWorld sample using ant and the build.xml file. The script reports that the build was succesful, but it does not appear in the console in the default domain (or any domain).
[oracle@apptl01anp 101.HelloWorld]$ obant.sh
Buildfile: build.xml
main:
[bpelc] validating "/home/apps/oracle/products/10gr2mid/integration/orabpel/samples/tutorials/101.H
elloWorld/HelloWorld.bpel" ...
[bpelc] BPEL suitcase deployed to: /home/apps/oracle/products/10gr2mid/integration/orabpel/domains/default/deploy
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 3 seconds
I tried loading another sample of my own using the console and "Deploy New Process" link. After submitting, the server reports back that the load was succesful. Again, the process does not appear on the console in the defualt domain (or any domain).
Lastly, I've tried to copy the suitcase to the deploy directory. Nothing happens. The process never appears in the console.
All of the process jar files are in the deploy directory. I've even tried rebooting the server, hoping that would cause everything to be loaded. No affect. I was thinking that maybe the server is configured to turn OFF auto-deploy. In my domain.xml file I have processCheckSecs set to 1. I see no errors in any logfiles (perhaps I'm looking at the wrong log files?).
We are using 10.1.2, BPEL is installed in an existing Mid-tier home in a Red Hat environment. I have installed all of the required patches.
Anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Dan

I'm seeing the exact same problem. I had Jdev 10.1.3.1 and OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.1. I just upgraded to JDev 10.1.3.3 and the problem remains. The odd thing is that it used to work fine.
I created a new test BPEL domain, created a new test BPEL process, and tried to deploy from JDev. It compiles find and the Ant script says it is deploying to the proper server with no errors. However nothing shows up and the domain log files shows no attempts to deploy anything.
I can take the same BPEL suitcase and manually deploy it with no problems. So what in the world is JDev (Ant) talking to when it thinks it is deploying this?

Does anyone have a possible solution?
I've contacted support and they suggested to turn the website off while deploying but that did not seem to resolve the issue.

photon, you've had quite a few threads now in which you lead those willing to help you down all kinds of useless rabit trails.  Most of the problems have been "solved" with you giving a statement much like this last one that "I forgot to <do some basic step clearly outlined in the instructions>".
We all make silly mistakes from time to time - but if you show a consistent pattern of failing to follow simple instructions, then I doubt arch is for you, and I doubt you will continue to get much leeway from this community.

• Error upon component startup post deployment of custom tasklow

Hi All,
I know similar post have addressed a similar issue, however, I cannot seem to get around my issue.
Forgive me as I am very new to ADF and JDev. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am using JDev 11.1.1.6 and my WLS install is 10.3.6

Yes Thanks.
I am deploying by right clicking the actual project. Of course, usually I select deploy to the managed server.
When I attempt deploy to WAR the process indicates the following:
[08:26:48 PM] Wrote Archive Module to C:\JDeveloper\ExtendOUCSSPortal\ExtendOUCSSPortal\OUCSSPortalADFLibrary\deploy\oracle.ugbu.ss.custom.adflib.jar
[08:26:48 PM] Wrote Web Application Module to C:\JDeveloper\ExtendOUCSSPortal\ExtendOUCSSPortal\OUCSSPortalSharedLibrary\deploy\extend.oucss.portal.war
[08:26:49 PM] Info: Namespace '/persdef' is mapped to deploy-target metadata-store-usage 'WebCenterFileMetadataStore' in adf-config.xml but no metadata from the namespace is included in the MAR.
[08:26:49 PM] Info: Namespace '/xliffBundles' is mapped to deploy-target metadata-store-usage 'WebCenterFileMetadataStore' in adf-config.xml but no metadata from the namespace is included in the MAR.
[08:26:49 PM] Info: Auto generated MAR archive was empty, not added to EAR.
