WAAS over WM5 or WM6

Hi,
Does WAAS works over windows mobile 5 or 6?

Hi Luis,
WAAS does not run on cell phones. It can be used as a stand alone device, an ISR module or as an application (WAAS Mobile) on Windows desktop operating systems, like Windows 2000 or later.
Here is more info on WAAS Mobile:

  • WAAS over PPPoE

    Hi,
I´m having a problem to register a Branch WAE in Central Manager over a DMVPN network through a interface dialer (PPPoE).
The Branch Office has two links, one dedicated and one PPPoE. These connects the central over GRE tunnel interfaces with OSPF.
When the main tunnel goes down (Dedicated link) the backup assumes the connection but in the Central Manager, the branch waas is offline.
This is the only branch that has PPPoE link. In others I have no problems with redundancy.
I´d like to know if there are limitations to register waas module over PPPoE link.
Any ideas to solve this problem.

  • WCCP GRE Redirection multiple hops

When using GRE redirection and negotiated return, is it possible to place the WAEs on a segment that is not directly attached to the routers? I have seen some documentation state, "It allows the WCCP clients to be separate from the router via multiple hops. With WAAS, the WAEs need to be connected directly to a tertiary or sub-interface of the router." This has left me a little confused, but seems like it is possible with new code. If it is possible, is there any possibility on looping occuring? I assume there isn't since the packets are tunneled to and from the routers which would bypass the inspection. This would also allow me to take advantage of WAAS over a high-speed/low latency link to a datacenter that does not physically have WAEs deployed.
    Any input is much appreciated,
    Patrick

    Patrick,
You are correct, the WAE with negotiated return can be multiple L3 hops away from the router (back in your DC). However for performance, of course it's recommended to be as close as possible. With the return traffic using GRE, the traffic is not being re-intercepted.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • High-level GUI api

    hi all,
I am developing a game in which i was supposed have the Canvas class in which after the game waas over the Usr was supposed to enter the name and some details about him.
I tried by using the same Canvas class for that,it has given the OutofMemory Exception
I rethought about the implementation and i am in total confusion what to do for the next step.
I tried to avoid the outof memory Exception, like by increasing the heap size even then the problem continues...
Like a oasis i found an document about the custom item, the concept is good like in that they have given that with the help of high-level GUI api we can have the application control(we can use Canvas in from)
is that is possible to implement,if so, can anybody show me the way for that
thanks for reading such a big query,Thanks in advance

    hi ,
the document name is "Games on the Java Platform for Mobile Information" it was an pdf file in that they have given about the High-level GUI API.
i got that file from the www.sun.com/software site

  • Syncing suddenly very slow

I have a problem with really slow syncing the last days. Some users with a lot of data (typically 8-10 2mpix jpegs) to upload are not able to sync at all. Users doing a complete refresh has the same problem. Syncs with "normal" amounts of data get through, but it takes up to 20 minutes. Clients are running WM5 and WM6.x.
This exception shows in the Mobile server console:
SEVERE: OC4J cannot update access log: null
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.evermind.server.http.StandardRequestLogger.appendIP(StandardRequestLogger.java:168)
    at com.evermind.server.http.StandardRequestLogger.log(StandardRequestLogger.java:59)
    at com.evermind.server.http.FormattedRequestLogger.log(FormattedRequestLogger.java:330)
The err.log has a lot of entries that says that users forcibly ends syncs, which I know is true due to the hang they experience.
This shows up quite regularly in err.log
java.io.IOException: Timed out waiting for spool space
There are lots of free disk space on the server running Mobile server (Win 2003 server), virtually no CPU load and no database capacity problems as far as I can see.
Does anybody know where to start digging?
EDIT: The "OC4J cannot update access log" is described in Metalink, docid 392995.1. There is a patch for it. It doesn't seem to be related to my problem with slow syncing.

    E.3.2.6 RESUME_CLIENT_TIMEOUT
The RESUME_CLIENT_TIMEOUT parameter is the number of seconds that the client should use to timeout network operations. The default is 60 seconds.
Set the total number of seconds that the client should use to resume network timeout operations.
    Default Value
    60 seconds
    Example
    RESUME_CLIENT_TIMEOUT=120
    E.3.2.7 RESUME_CLIENT_MAXSEND
The RESUME_CLIENT_MAXSEND parameter is the maximum data size, in KB, that the client should send in a single POST request. This is used in cases where there is a proxy with a small limit on the data size in one request. Specifying a reasonable value, such as 256 KB, can also help clients with limited storage space, as they can free the chunks that have already been transmitted and acknowledged. The default is 1024 KB.
Set the maximum data size in KiloBytes sent by a client in a single POST request. Some proxies maintain fixed limits on data size in one request.
    Default Value
    1024

  • MobileMe Alternatives- Hosted Exchange

Can someone recommend me a company that will support iPhone 3G that will host my domain and offer hosted exchange?

i have used mail2web.com hosted exchange's free account - they have a service to use your own email return/domain but i have not tried it.
They worked fine with WM5 and WM6, so it should work fine with iPhone. You get web mail for free too, and with a paid service you get Outlook integration.

  • Can you use WAEs for conns going over IPSEC?

Question: Can you place WAEs and optimize traffic and then place over IPSEC? Has anyone done this and have you experienced sufficient optimization? I'm picturing some in-line module WAEs between enddevices and IPSEC routers and wanted to know if I could expect typical optimization performance.
    Thanks! Mike.

    Mike,
Are planning to deploying the WAE's in the traffic prior before/after IPSec encryption occurs? If so, you should be fine.

  • Cisco WAAS deployment over VSAT WAN links

    Hi.
I would just like to know if you can implement Cisco WAAS on a WAN running on 128 VSAT llinks and if the performance improvement will be very significant. Significant enough to make me change my mind from upgrading the link?
    Thanks

    Hi Tod.
Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful. I am currently researching into the viability of Cisco WAAS as an optimization tool that will increase bandwidth and reduce costs. I wanted to know if you could help suggest any useful document that could help in my research.
    Thank you again.

  • WAAS Reporting

    Hi All,
We currently have WAAS deployed in a production network and we are trying to understand the traffic reporting on the WAAS Central Manager.
So when we look at the traffic summary report it shows original traffic over the last hour and optimised traffic over the last hour, does the original traffic mean the amount traffic that has arrived at the WAAS device? and the optimised traffic is what has left the WAAS device? How do i know what percentage was cached/compressed/accelerated?
Also i exported this from a WAE device and im trying to interpret original in and optimised out? can somebody clarify this?

I believe that the 'original traffic' indicates the amount of data that would have been sent/needed had the WAAS no been in place.  The 'optimised traffic' is the actual amount of data that was sent.  The difference in the two numbers is the savings that in bandwidth that the WAAS gave you.

  • WAAS - Custom Reporting - Documentation

Does anyone have a link to documentation regarding creating custom reports on the WAAS appliance? I have been told that you can create a custom report that will let me look at data for a specific port on a specific day during a specific time.
What I am ultimately looking for is a report that will let me look at traffic that was handledly by one of the WAAS devices at a remote location say last night between 8:00pm and 4:00am.
So far all that I have been able to get out of the system is traffic that happened yestarday summerized over the 24 hour period.
We are completing a product evaluation and are trying to evaluate traffic patterns without WAAS or the rules in passthrough and with WAAS. This information is lumped into the daily summary and we cannot seem to get specific detailed reports.

    Brent,
I think for documentation, what you are looking for is here...

  • WAAS Capacity Planning TFO Connection Reporting?

For WAAS Capacity Planning I'm trying to work out a way to gather WAAS appliance and module TFO connection statistics over time for each device. I'm looking to gather the number of TFO connections at regular intervals to allow us to get an accurate picture of the current WAAS capacity utilisation. The central manager reports a "The TFO accelerator is overloaded (connection limit)" when the maximum TFO connection limit for a devices is exceeded but it does not tell you the number of connections that exceeded the limit on the box.
I've tried using the WAAS Monitoring XML API:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v421/monitoring/guide/MG_XML_API.html
But it does not allow reporting of this statistic as far as I can work out.
If you run "show stat conn" on a WAAS device it gives you the "Current Active Optimized Flows", but this is the current number of flows and not the maximum number of TFO connections reached since the counters were last cleared?
    Current Active Optimized Flows:                                3258
Current Active Optimized TCP Plus Flows:              812
Current Active Optimized TCP Only Flows:              2453
Current Active Optimized TCP Preposition Flows:    0
    Current Active Auto-Discovery Flows:                         411
    Current Reserved Flows:                                           99
    Current Active Pass-Through Flows:                          540
    Historical Flows:                                                      532
Does anyone know anyway of anyway to either manually gather this statistic from a WAAS appliance or module? Or poll this statistic from a monitoring system like Solarwinds?

    Hello
As of WAAS 4.4.1 it comes with a WAN optimization MIB CISCO-WAN-OPTIMIZATION-MIB, if you want to use a 3rd party software like Cacti to graph over time.

Very good questions. Let me try and take them one at a time. Some of the answers you will likely find in the CM GUI help (upper-left corner is the Help button), or in the online documentation. But let's add a little more color and detail.
1)When we pull bandwidth Optimization report, on Y-Axis the graphs says Effective Capacity .What is Effective Capacity?
Basically, the "effective increased bandwidth capacity" is telling you how much additional WAN bandwidth you've gained because of the optimization. It will chart somewhere between 1 times and 100 times. Typically it charts all traffic, though you can configure it to chart traffic for specific Applications.
The CDM online help gives the formulas used to chart the graph:
    Effective WAN Capacity = 1 / (1-% Reduction Excluding Pass-Through)
    % Reduction Excluding Pass-Through = (Original Excluding Pass-Through - Optimized) / (Original Excluding Pass-Through)
2)what is reduction % excluding and including passthrough
Looking at the formulas given above might help you understand. The one is a reduction ratio compared to only the original traffic that is optimized. The other is a reduction ratio compared to all original traffic, whether it is optimized or not. So, if you want to know what kind of optimization you are getting for the traffic that you configured to have optimized, look at the "excluding pass-through" numbers. If you want to know the positive effect that optimization is having on your full traffic load, take a look at the "including pass-through" numbers.
3)What is effectivity capacity including and excluding passthrough ?
The effective capacity is what kind of throughput you can potentially realize on the WAN -- assuming you would fill it to 100% capacity -- because of the level of optimization you are seeing. The "including" numbers show you the effect of optimization compared to all the traffic passing through the WAE whether it is optimized or not. The "excluding" numbers show the effect of optimization compared only to the traffic that is receiving optimizations.
4)With the help of which report, we can show the customer that the file download which took 10 mins in first attempt, is downloaded in 10secons in next attempt?
This one is a little trickier. The reports are much broader than a single connection. They are for all traffic, or for traffic that matches specific defined Applications. You could create a separate Application and matching classifiers for the client and/or server IP addresses and/or ports, run the test, then configure the charts to only show you the data for that Application. By default, statistics for an Application aren’t charted unless you check the "Enable Statistics" box when defining/editing the Application.
5)How to show that the bandwidth utilization has decreased by which %.
You want to look at the % reduction numbers you asked about in #2 above.
6)Which report says that the applications have become this much time faster?
These questions are normally put forwarded by many customers ? Can you please help me with your expertise answer ?
This is probably the hardest question to answer.
"Faster" isn't always easy to define. You are probably talking about user experience rather than statistics found in a network device. What determines that experience? A web page fully populating with all the pictures? A CIFS-based application that saves a file? A custom application that collects data from different servers over different protocols to perform some operation? Much of that is subjective and based on multiple individual requests, sometimes over different protocols.
What we can provide are statistics to show the effect of WAN optimization and application acceleration for specific types of traffic. We can't show you that displaying a web page is N times faster with WAAS, because we don't know which of all the many HTTP requests that are made are specific to the user experience. But we can show that each of the requests received so much overall optimization, so much optimization from DRE, so much optimization from LZ, so much added benefit from HTTP acceleration.
What you would probably do is collect some base-line timings for performing certain user activities, then perform the same operations both cold (first pass) and warm (subsequent passes). Back up those timing numbers with reports from the CM GUI, and perhaps even the "show statistics connection connection-id ". Which reports to use? Start with those Optimization and Acceleration reports. Those are the reports we expect will give the most complete/accurate pictures of the benefit of WAAS. You can also create and even schedule custom reports as needed.

  • Rotate image X degrees on WM5

    Hello,
I'm creating a programs for a PPC running WM5. The program needs to be able to rotate an image X degrees. But until now I didn't find much that I can use.
On a desktop you've got the Advanced graphics and awt.geom. But I can't seem to find anything thats CDC (with PP) compatible.
I found one tread of someone that did it manual, but it has two disadvantages: 1: It's to slow | 2 it doesn't fill empty spots that are generated by rotating an image.
    The tread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=80&threadID=754901
Does anyone know a solution of how to do this correctly?

1: It's to slowThat's completely unoptimised code. I would estimate that with some effort it can be made at least 10 times faster, if not 100.
2 it doesn't fill empty spots that are generated by rotating an image. What do you mean?
Edit: Oh, I get it. Yes, the first change I'd make to that code is to iterate over destination pixels rather than source pixels.
