WAAS reboot question

Hi Team,
I would like to ask you one question regarding WAAS boot procedure.

Let’s say I have physical inpath implementation on the branch WAE and need to reload it (IOS upgrade). I know that in case of HW failure the WAE will “fail to cross” acting as a cable so there is no (or little) WAN outage. But is this statement true also during reload ? Is the WAE acting as a cable when it is rebooting or the location is completely cut off and the connection is established after the reload process ?
Many thanks!
Stan

Stan,
Correct, when reloading the WAE with in-line support, the in-line card would go into pass-though mode.  Once the WAE is up, existing connections would continue in pass-though and any new connection would be optimized.

  • IMac Hard Reboot - Questions

    Here are my system details:
    - Late 2006 edition - 2.0ghz, 1gb RAM, 160gb HDD, 17"
    - originally had Tiger, but now running Snow Leopard
I am looking to try to "clean up" the computer for resale as I am looking to purchase a new iMac (either the current version or new one in June/July), but I have some programs where I don't have actual disks to reinstall them.  Some of the programs are:  Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint (all 2008 version), iBank.
    Here are my questions:
    1.  If I want to continue to run Snow Leopard, do I need to reinstall Tiger, then upgrade to Snow Leopard?
    2.  If I do this, will I "lose" my other programs?
    3.  Is there a better way?
    4.  Is the best way to get all of my documents off of my External HDD to use Migration Assistant?
    5.  What specific steps do I need to take to do a full reboot?  I've looked on forums for this, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.
    Any help is appreciated.

Chances are you will NOT be able to run Snow Leopard on the new Mac. You will need to run the OS that it ships with which is currently Lion. This should be OK unless  you have some legacy PPC (Power PC) based apps. You can check your app inventory by opening System Profiler (Applications - Utilities - System Profiler), click Applications on the left and then look in the Kind column. Apps that are Intel & Universal will work fine, PPC apps will not run on Lion at all.
Not sure what you mean but your best bet is to run Lion.
    Nope
Yes use Migration Assistant. My suggestion would be to use an external HD and create a bootable clone of your internal HD. The most  popular apps for creating a bootable clone are Carbon Copy Cloner & SuperDuper, you can then migrate from the clone. This also gives you a backup of the old system just in case there is a problem and you can re-use the external HD any way you like, for example for a Time Machine backup drive or to continue using it to create a bootable clone of the new system.
I'm not sure what you're referring to by a re-boot however I think you are asking "How do I prepare my Mac for resale." If I'm correct please read these two articles:

  • Client Reboot question

When the client is set to auto reboot in like 1 hour you get a popup (2) one has a count down and then in like the last 15 mins you get another one that you can't hide, my question is there a way to change the notification message? If so how, Thanks.

Why not there has to be some file in sccm that I can modify.
Why does there "have to be"?
Are the strings displayed in the product somewhere? Absolutely.
Did the they build the product with the ability for them to be changed? Probably as I'm sure the strings are already customized for different languages.
Did they expose the ability to change the strings to the "consumer"? No.
Could you find the resource files where the strings are stored? Most likely. It's probably in a resource DLL.
Is it supported to change these by hacking the resource file? No.
Is it possible that you screw something up in the process of hacking a resource file? Yes.

  • Mba freezes and than can't reboot (question mark in folder)

My mba acts kind of crazy lately. It suddenly freezes and when I try to reboot it doesn't find my ssd and gives me the dreaded question mark in folder sign. When I try recovery mode it doesn't show my ssd, but if I keep trying sometimes after a few minutes or a few hours it boots just fine.
Is it a software ot hardware issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have the original disk that shipped with the iMac, you can try booting from it.
Put the disk in and restart the computer while holding the C key down. If the computer boots you can start the installation process. (You are not reinstalling.) After the screen where you select the language you will see a menu bar. Click Utilities and run Disk Utility. In DU, select the hard drive on the left, First aid, and click Repair disk. When that is done, quit DU and restart the computer in the usual way.
If DU tells you the disk cannot be repaired, you will have to replace it.

  • GD65 Post-BIOS Adjustment Reboot Question

Is it normal that whenever I change & save bios "Cell Menu" settings, the board reboots by first switching off (i.e. all LEDs & fans off) & then powering up again after a gap of abt 1s. If I change other settings in bios then after saving it restarts as if a warm boot (i.e. fans & LEDs don't go off). Is this normal behaviour?
Also I have DDR3-1600 rams, how can I set the board to run @ 1600? I can currently only set it to run @ 1333 now by using 5x memory divider setting. Also how can I change vdimm setting? The selection is currently at "auto" & is greyed out.
    TIA

Quote from: NovJoe on 14-February-10, 00:17:40
If the setting is saved after the 1s reboot, it should be normal.
As for the RAM question, please post what RAM you are using.
Yes, setting is saved, but it's strange that sometimes it reboots as if a hard reset is done & sometimes it's a warm reboot. Does it make a difference if say I change only the ram or cpu settings or if it's only a change relating to disabling quick boot?
The rams are OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 LVAM (for AMD). I'm currently testing the board with these rams & the bios only give me choice of auto, 3x, 4x & 5x settings (no 6x). Setting it to 5x gives me a speed of 1333.
The bios is v1.2 & the psu is Delta Server Power 750w (Only available in Asia).

  • EA3500 reboot question

I recently purchased the EA3500 router and I have a question concerning the web page access. I can gain access to the router using the 192.168.1.1 address but I have not been able to find a reboot selection on any of the menus.  My router has been dropping the internet connection and the only way that I have been able to restore the connection is to pull the power plug.  Is there a reboot selection on any of the menus in the router web pages?
As a side note, I have read several of the other messages about changing the MTU and the channel selection to see if that may help.  Time will tell.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a reboot option on the setup page of the router. If you are using the Classic firmware, you’ll find the option under the Setup. If you are using the Linksys Smart Wifi firmware, it is under Troubleshooting> Diagnostics> Reboot.
If you are experiencing dropping of connection problem using the router, try to isolate the issue first. Connect a computer directly to the modem and observe the connection. If the connection is stable then the problem might be on the router. Make sure that the firmware of the router is on the latest. You can then reset and reconfigure the router. Changing the MTU setting is recommended if the problem is also experienced if you are hardwired to the router. These links will provide you information about MTU and how to change the settings: What is MTU and How to Change the MTU Size and Determining and setting up the correct MTU size.

  • Reboot question

i'm just wondering if hard reseting (holding power button) does any damage to your computer. i heard it may corrupt your os but that basically means reformatting your drive could make it as if it were brand new. my question is if it does anything to your computer besides that

You should only hard reset if, for some reason, you cannot reboot or shut down normally. And if that is the situation, you should use investigative or diagnostic tools to see what's going on and try to repair it. Hard resetting won't really harm your computer, but you shouldn't use it consistently to reboot.

  • WAAS MB Question

    hello everybody,
I want to install "waas mb, but I do not understand the table 1 of document installation, specifically the part of " Capacty (max concurret users) and Capacity (max active users) "could someone explain to which they relate.
Other question: WAAS MB can install in a Virtual Server ? (of course, consistent with the requirements of the installation document).
    Thanks a lot.

Concurrent users refers to the number of users that have a current open connection between the WAAS Mobile client and server. A concurrent user consumes one license slot on the server.  An active user is a concurrent user that is actually transmitting data at any one instant. A WAAS Mobile server can service many concurrent users, but a smaller number of active users.
WAAS Mobile can run on a virtual machine, but is not officially supported until the 3.5 release due out this month (April 2010). Capacity should be discounted as one would do for any virtual machine.

  • UCS Fabric interconnect reboot Question:

When you reboot an FI what is the expected behavior of UCS manager logs, faults, etc? What should we see to know what is a normal reboot and what are normal faults. We are trying to troubleshoot our FI's after an outage and can't find any info on how these normally log faults of this type.

    Hi Claudio
    I assume you talk about 10G copper, not 1G copper;
    and if 10G: CX-4 (Twinax) cables, or 10G Base-T ?
There is a 12-port 10GBASE-T module, but this is only supported on the Nexus 5596T so of no use on Nexus 5596UP switch, nor UCS FI.
Anyway, it is a not recommended to connect UCS FI Uplinks to a Nexus 22xx ? just think about the oversubscription ! you would like to have as much bandwidth Northbound as possible.

  • Hardware reboot question?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro early 2011, running 10.7.5. My AppleCare ran just ran out on March 1st and have now shown some battery issues. The battery doesn't seem to charge fully and I wanted to try a hardware reboot to see if that would make a difference. When I had called Apple support the tech had told me about several different hardware reboot (zapping the PRAM as well as another one which I can't recall). Does anyone tell me the procedure to do whatever hardware reboot that might take care of whatever "cobwebs" that might be floating around in my laptop? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Chris

The one you can't recall is an SMC reset. You want the process for "a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • Reboot question for G5

    Hello,
I'm having trouble getting my antique G5 to start up.  When I turn it on the screens are grey and then the motor just increases in volume.  I know there are some buttons to hold down when rebooting, I just can't remember what they are.
    Any help?
    Thanks,

They're going for less these days, thankfully.  I got mine in August for $315, admittedly an exceptionally good deal at the time.
I did max it out with RAM from OWC and added a flashed video card as well as a SCSI card.  I couldn't be happier.  In my case, though, I could not even consider a Mac Pro because I need to run Classic.  In your case, the opposite probably applies.

  • WAAS Prepositioning Questions

I have WAAS setup and i'm able to view the cifs shares but when i configure a preposition directive the status says it copied and is successful but 0 bytes have been copied.
The file servers sits at the same location as the core cluster and i've assigned the edge devices to do the caching. The status is below. The cifs directory i'm trying to preposition has about 50 mbs of data.
Is that normal or are there some additional tests i can run to verify the config?
    wae-gresham Thu May 22 13:31:20 MST 2008 1.66655 [min] 0.0 [bytes] Completed Finished successfully

    Darren,
Ensure your username has at least read-only permissions for the directory and file listing on your directories.
Do you know if the files that you are attempting to preposition are already cached locally? Is the edge currently serving CIFS content from the cache successfully?
Also, I would check the following settings:
Total Size as % of Cache Volume: Ensure that the cache % is large enough for your files.
Max/Min File Size: Set to value so your files are covered.
Duration: Set to several hours as a test...
    Type: Try "All Files"
Include Sub Directory: Check the box unless you don't want to traverse the directories.
If that all checks out and the files are still not prepositioned, we can look at the logs as well (both WAE and Origin Server).
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Compact fieldpoint rebooting question

I have a cFP-2100 and LabVIEW RT 8.0.  I do not have the LabVIEW application builder.  I was wondering, is there a way for the controller to reboot itself incase of a power outage or if the device somehow becomes unplugged?

    Hello,
If you are continuously sending/receiving data between the host and the
FieldPoint target, and during some specified period of time you do not
get any response, you could programmatically reboot the FieldPoint
controller as described in the following document: How Do I Programmatically Reboot My Ethernet FieldPoint Controller?

  • IPhone reboot questions

I turn my phone off every night, mainly because I do not like to be disturbed while asleep. I also read somewhere here that a side benefit of this is that it's good to do a soft reset every so often.
So this brings me to my question: What about doing a hard reset of the phone once in a while, even if everything seems normal? Is it healthy for the phone? Can it cause any harm?
    Thanks in advance.

ok i understand about 2year and new sim thats fine with me, but my other question about data plan, so if i do sign up for data plan i something happens to my iphone, such as loose it or have it stolen or break it i am stuck paying 30 extra dollars a month for something i cant use?

  • WAAS Deployment question

I have a customer who is interested to deploy WAAS. The customer has one main data center and 12-13 branches. I know we can design and deploy core and branch optimization and acceleration. Is there any way we can optimize and accelerate branch to branch? Appreciate your help.

    Mohammed,
Thanks for your post. WAAS uses an auto-discovery process to automatically find peer WAEs between the client and server data path. There is no need to statically configure which WAEs peers with each other -- they will find each other automatically by virtue of intercepting the traffic (using inline or WCCP interception).
