Wacom and CS5 Question
I installed a intuos 4 tablet last nite on a windows 7 machine.When I open CS5 there is a small tab on the right side of the screen.I went ot make an exposure adjustment and a small window popped up with a line for me to freehand my numerical value in.I also notice that it has a small keyboare icon and when you click this a mine keyboard pops up in the window.How can I disable this?

As far as I know that is a feature of the tablet capability of Windows. You can move it to another part of the screen. There should be a possi
bility with the control panel to put it either on the left or right side of the screen or move it vertically along the screen
to put it out of the way of your tools. You can also make your workspace a few pixels smaller so that you won't
accidentally hover over this control item and activate it. There might be other solutions but as far as I know once you install tablet
drivers in Windows that box is at-the-ready waiting to be used with the tablet.
Check your Control Panel for Tablet PC options.

A few question about iPhone OS in CS5 and CS5 in general.
Hi,
I'm an IT trainer and I am trying to introduce my students to programming for iPhone/iPod Touch. (They are Secondary 2 students. 14 years old) The school is using a windows computer and CS5 right now is the best for the class (Not a steep learning curve and a user-friendly program). I know about the problems over the iPhone OS in CS5 with Apple but I was told it is still available for use. Furthermore, we have no intention of bringing the apps created to the Apple Store. I've tried the trial version and before I make any purchase, I would actually like to ask a few questions.
Is the iPhone OS in the trial version itself complete? Is there anything left out from the trial version because when I tried it, it seems fine however I did not try publishing to an iPhone due to the certificates. Is there a reason for the certificate? Is there any way around it because if there isn't do I need to get a certificate for every single student? (I'm looking at a class of 40 students.) Is the certificate available for windows platform?
Lets say, I got myself a certificate, create a simple program and then publish it, can I immediately bring it over to iTunes and then sync? Will it work that way? I don't want it to be too tedious for the students to see the end result. I've done quite a few research and have come across people having problems bringing it into their devices. Those people mention about bringing it to Cydia and needing to jailbreak the device. The devices made available for the students are not jailbroken. Will iPhone OS with proper certification still need Cydia for use with their device? Will only jailbroken device allow a CS5 app? I hope you get what I'm trying to say. We as trainers do not support teaching students to jailbreak, so that's definitely a no-no.
Another thing about CS5. Previously I have called customer support about the CS4 the school is using now and the problem with nested animation when publishing the animation as a video file, is this problem still in CS5? Does CS5 allow nested animation to be published as a video file? If it isn't, is there any way around it?

High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.

Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

Upgrade from CS4 to CS5 question
Does anyone know whether PS CS4 purchased in North America can be upgraded with CS5 upgrade purchased in Europe ? Does not plan to come back to US anytime soon and would rather find any potential problems out before spending 200 euros on the upgrade...

I shoot RAW with Nikon cameras and use both LR4 and CS5 for post-processing.
My question is about sharpening in LR4 and/or CS5.
Can I do sharpening in LR4 and then again in CS5 by "Edit in Photoshop CS5"?
I recently read an article descrbing that in case we do sharpening in CS5, it did not recommend re-sharpening in CS5.
Could someone advise me which approach is the best for sharpening images between LR4 and/or CS5?Big question, and one with a lot of answers and also a lot of differing opinions (certainly in forums!). My take, having studied this aspect of image processing a great deal over the past couple of years (this assumes you're shooting in raw):
Break up your sharpening into two (or three) stages. Two of them are key - capture and output sharpening:
- Capture sharpening. Sharpen in the Develop module of LR to "bring back" sharpness lost during the process of capturing the image and converting it into a digital form. Sharpness is lost during the conversion, and also due to the anti-moire (or anti-aliaising) filter that typically is present in most digital cameras (there are some expections, the only Nikon one without this filter is the new D800E), and the Bayer colour filter. The capture process robs some of the sharpness from the image (even when using top-end gear), and you need to recover that in Develop: this is specifically what the controls there are designed for. Note that in-camera sharpness settings have zero effect in LR. Note also that the beauty of being able to do this in LR is that you can tailor the sharpening to your particular image attributes. IMO, capture sharpening is a vital part of any post processing workflow.
- Creative sharpening. Optional (don't do this very often myself, but as with all things, that depends on the image), but you can do this if you want to emphaise a part of your image (the classic example that tends to get rolled out is a portrait where you may wish to add additonal sharpening to the eyes). This can, and generally should, be done in PS (in theory you can do it in LR using the adjustment brush, but from my experience that doesn't tend to give the best results.
- Output sharpening. This should be done at the very end of the process to an image that has been re-sized to it's final output dimensions (so for example if it's for a print, set up the print dimensions/ratio and the ppi before output sharpening). Furthermore, output sharpening depends greatly on the output device: print sharpening will typically need more (and use a different "thickness") than screen sharpening (for web viewing, etc). LR has built-in capture sharpening (available in Export and the Print module) which I'm finding to be very good, but some prefer other tools for this task. You can also do it in PS, but it will be more labour intensive to do so. Do this on a copy of the master file - never on the original.
This is a very brief overview, and there's quite a bit more to it than that, in particular the actual techniques and tools to use (and how to use them). Like I say, a big subject. If you're serious about learning more, I highly recommend the Real World Sharpening book (2nd ed): of all the material I've read on this subject, that's by far the most comrpehensive and informative work. Yes, a whole book just on sharpening - said it was a big question!
IMHO the "sharpen once and once only" approach is outdated, and it's just not flexible enough to cover all the bases. But not everyone will agree with this I'm sure...

I have CS3 and CS5 on my Mac, can I safely delete CS3 now that I am upgrading to CS6?
This may seem like a paranoid question, but better safe than sorry...
I currently have both CS3 and CS5 (Production Premium) loaded on my Mac laptop. I just got the upgrade to CS6 today.
I really don't need/use CS3 anymore, so I am wondering if it is OK for me to delete CS3 applications from my computer. I just don't want to accidentally delete something that my CS6 upgrade (or even CS5) might need.
Any thoughts?

Re-installing TCS2.5 and CS5.5 - process?
So... I mentioned in a posting over in Acrobat yesterday that things had gone awry on my notebook. Well, they went from bad to worse :-)
The notebook is currently being nuked and paved, and I'll have to load my TCS2.5 and CS5.5.
I vaguely recall that installing 2.5 was, well, weird, but I don't recall the details (other than that various items had to be upgraded in a certain order, I believe).
So, my question is: Is there a post somewhere detailing the proper installation process for tcs2.5 (or can somebody give me the process), and is there any weirdness I should beware of with regard to loading cs5.5 after that's done?

Versions prior to 3.0 wanted to install both instances I seem to remember. Go with the custom install option & pick and choose what you want installed. E.g. if you don’t use any source control, make sure that RoboSource isn’t selected.

I need to run Indesign and Photoshop in both CS3 AND CS5. Will they run on a new Mac Pro OS? Do I need Rosetta? I hear it will work on Lion OS 10.6, but not the upcoming Mountain Lion OS 10.7. True?

I just don't get this ratio thing. I'm editing a project in widescreen. All of my assets show 720x480 under Video info in the project window, yet they all fit in the wide screen format in the timeline output. I don't get that because 720x480 is 4x3.
So I open the text window to insert some text and I see that that window is in the 4x3 format and I don't know how to widen it so that I can move the text anywhere on the widescreen timeline.
My main question is how to get the text window to be widescreen but if anyone can lend an explanation to this whole ratio thing I'd also appreciate it.

CraigThere are two "Aspect Ratios." The first is the Aspect Ratio of the Frame Size. That is the 720 x 480, that you see. Then, there is the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), that John T. mentioned. In SD, there are two common PAR's, that determine how the images are composed, using non-square pixels. Basically, they are 0.9 and 1.2 (CS4 and CS5 have corrected the rounding of these PAR's just a bit), meaning that for Standard (4:3), one has rectangular pixels that are taller, than they are wide, hence the 0.9 PAR and for Widescreen (16:9), they are wider, than they are tall, hence the 1.2 PAR. It's the same pixel x pixel count, but those pixels are different sizes of rectangles.

PS - for 4:3 Titles, you can use the fixed Effects>Motion>Scale (unchecking Proportional), but do watch out for "stretched" Text, as it might be easier to redo, than alter those visual attributes. -

Performance issue and functional question regarding updates on tables
A person at my site wrote some code to update a custom field on the MARC table that was being copied from the MARA table. Here is what I would have expected to see as the code. Assume that both sets of code have a parameter called p_werks which is the plant in question.

Here's the question - why did this person enqueue and dequeue explicit locks like this ? They claimed it was to prevent issues - what issues ??? Is there something special about updating tables that we don't know about ? We've actually seen it where the system runs out of these ENQUEUE locks.
Before you all go off the deep end and ask why not just do the update, keep in mind that you don't want to update a million + rows and then do a commit either - that locks up the entire table!The ENQUEUE lock insure that another program called by another user will not update the data at the same time, so preventing database coherence to be lost. In fact, another user on a SAP correct transaction, has read the record and locked it, so when it will be updated your modifications will be lost, also you could override modifications made by another user in another luw.
You cannot use a COMMIT WORK in a SELECT - ENDSELECT, because COMMIT WORK will close each and every opened database cursor, so your first idea would dump after the first update. (so the internal table is mandatory)

Is it possible to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 both installed on the same Mac? 10.6.8
We have a bunch of recent Intel macs at our corporation. Currently they should all have 10.6.8. They were all imaged from a base image that has Adobe CS4 embedded in it.
We are now using a packaging software part of the JAMF Casper suite and AAMIE to push CS5.5 to the end users.
The problem is that we want to keep CS4 on the end user's computers in case of issues. That way the end users can try Indesign 5.5 and see if it does everything they need to do and still have Indesign for backwards compatiblity.
So we created a CS5.5 install package using the AAMIE tool which works fine. We then use Casper to spam the package out to a Mac.
The issue that arises is that a few Plugin errors occur during the lauch of Indesign CS5.5 such as:
Adobe inDesign does not recognize InCopy Bridge UI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExportUI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyImport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
There was one more plugin error that occured before the first one but I forgot to write it down.
If we click okay to them, the application launches okay but when you quit and relaunch it, you still get one of the errors.
Is this because both applications are installed at the same time?
Is it offically okay as per Adobe to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 installed on the same Macintosh?
What else should we be considering what to do?Well currently, I'm just testing this issue. I just installed the trial version of Adobe CS4 suite on my mac and then deployed the CS5.5 package on top off it The resulting errors that I listed above are the same ones that occur when the end user has a licensed volume license install of CS4 and CS5.5.
So I'm still back to square 1 where when I deploy cs5.5 on an end user's mac, they get those plugin errors when they launch Indesign CS5.5.
I am not sure about the licensing restrictions, I asked my Director and he is going to check with our VAR. -

Second, here's how you reset your password and/or security questions.
How to reset your Apple ID password.
Go to iforgot.apple.com and type in your Apple ID, then click 'Next'.
Verify your date of birth, then click 'Next'.
You'll be able to choose one of two methods to reset your password, either E-Mail Authentication or Answer Security Questions.
If neither method works, then go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.
Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.
How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. (If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email)
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'. This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or there is no rescue email link available, then click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
Next, go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.

Hi, I have a new computer and new apple id. I've purchased music with my old computer, email and apple id.
I cant access now the previously purchase music, because it wants to authorize the new computer to play the
music. I cant remember password and security questions for my old id and the old email doest exist anymore.

If you need to reset you security questions, do not know the answers and no longer have access to that email account, see the last sentence under Note in step 5.
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need tocontact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

Mass Deleting Supporting Documents
Hi, We have over 6000 WMF loaded as supporting documents. We had problem in displaying those WMFs and had to convert them to JPGs and loaded all those JPGs to PLM. Since we don't need all of those WMFs now, how can we delete them in mass.
