Wacom intuos5 driver not installing on MacBook Pro 2009 ML

Hi,
I recently bought a new Wacom graphics tablet - intuos 5touch. Very expensive and supposedly very good. But I cannot install this on my MacBook Pro 13inch 2009 running mountain lion 10.8.2. I have the latest driver fromwacom and the installation process runs all the way through to 'validating packages' and then fails for no given reason. On Console there are a long list of errors but not sure if these are for the installation or other reasons. I have deleted and reloaded the driver and I have cleared my hard drive and clean installed mountain lion from the apple store with a time machine backup. I am extremely frustrated. I have been using my macbookpro for 3 years with no real problems but the latest os releases seem to be causing everything to run slow or not work. I have checked the hd for errors and repaired everything which needs doing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I cannot afford to replace my mac, it was expensive enough and should really last longer than 3 years.
Any help gratefully received
thanks
Helen

Ok, this is my latest update.  Having spent 1.5 hours in the apple store having a full diagnostic check done - nothing obviously wrong -  I have done the following:
Replaced the old drive with a new ssd.  Added 4gb RAM to give a total of 8Gb.  Done a full reinstall of mountain lion by download and NOT restored from time machine.
The Apple tech suggested that I either had a bad drive or there was a software conflict somewhere.  I restored from my time machine backup onto the new drive and still couldn't install, so that told me it was software not hardware that was causing the problem.  I then erased my new drive and downloaded mountain lion from the app store from scratch and reinstalled. Before doing anything else I downloaded the driver from wacom and - hey presto - it installed!  Halleluia!
The conclusion is that I had either a corrupt file or setting somewhere which was causing a conflict with wacom and not allowing installation.  If your disk is ok then I suggest you clone your hard drive to time machine or other backup, erase the hard drive, reinstall mountain lion from disk or download and then before doing anything else install wacom's driver.  If this installs then you need to decide what to restore from your backup - the apple tech suggested not restoring settings and users as these areas are where corruptions can occur.
Tedious but it works, and my wacom intuos 5 is now working!  I hope it's worth it!
Hope this helps.

  • Thunderbolt 2 external hard drive not working with Macbook Pro (early 2011)

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I hope you guys can help me with this:
I've recently bought an external hard drive that works on Thunderbolt 2 (LaCie d2 3TB). When I connect the new drive to my Macbook Pro through the thunderbolt port, the drive isn't recognized. However, the drive works fine through a USB connection.
I thought that Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are compatible, however this doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it's because the OS X / driver / firmware version that I'm working on that is not updated? I work on an early 2011 Macbook Pro: OS X Version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Thank you very much for your help!
    Daniel

    Hi danielsh6,
I recently bought the new Lacie Thunderbolt 2 D2 3TB and I had the same problem as you, i have a macbook pro early 2011, those support thunderbolt but many times there is a bug that doesn't let you connect any thunderbolt drives to your computer. The solution I found was installing this update:
    Thunderbolt Firmware Update v1.0
Before doing this I would recommend you updating to mountain lion (not yosemite yet as there is still some glitches and more on preview's macbook pro's).
    Hope this helped!

  • Mountain Lion not installing on MacBook pro 17inch

I have downloaded without any issue and followed the prompt to install. The install start and goes on for 35 minutes with the progress bar moving. So it is doing something. Then it is getting to the end with the following message: install failed. OsX could not be installed on your computer. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer. Click start to restart your computer and try installing again.
I have tried 6 times but not working. The I wanting to restore from backup using the utilities from the menu bar "Restore System from backup" it will do the same and. Go on for 35 minutes and get to the same screen "install failed" what should I do now.

Having read several posts on this subject it seems to be very hit and miss for some people, but I think on the whole it is only a few who are affected.
I find it very difficult to believe that a Mac cannot be taken back to Snow Leopard by performing a complete fresh install using the install DVD that came with that machine, or a retail edition disc.  Mac OS does not alter the firmware during the install as far as I am aware, so the hardware should be the same as it was originally before the install.
The only thing I can think that might prevent a successful install might be if the system files have been altered by software installers, the Mac OS installer might be confused, or if the permissions have not been set correctly then the installer might not be able to overwrite or set up certain files.  That is why a clean install should (in theory) always work on compatible hardware, then a restore from a backup or Time Machine would be all that is required to bring back the user's data.  Formatting the hard drive may be a necessary step if it is not working as expected, this can be done from the Utilities when booted from the install media (or Lion recovery thing).
I didn't have a problem installing Lion or Mountain Lion on my Late 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro, but before installing made sure I created a USB flash drive (8GB) from the downloaded installer using the little trick which is around on the internet.  If the installation had bailed for any reason, I definitely did not want to have to download several GB all over again.

  • The iMovie 11 update I just bought from the App Store will not install on Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro and I have iLife 09, I updated all the other iLife 09 apps to iLife 11 (iPhoto, Garage Band) . So I bought the update for iMovie yesterday and it seems to downloaded fine but when I click the install button it doesn't do anything. Can you guys point me in the right direction to get this installed
    Thanks

You have a corrupted old system. At the very least you need to repair the hard drive and permissions before trying to install Mountain Lion. However, this my not be sufficient. You may need to reinstall your old system before trying to install Mountain Lion.
Of course it would be more useful were you to provide the full information on the error message and what OS X version you currently have installed. Also check that you can install Mountain Lion on your model:
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

  • 10.5.4 retail install DVD will not install on macbook pro

I have a retail OSX Leopard DVD
    version 10.5.4
    2Z691-6232-A
I am trying to do a clean install of the OS on a Macbook Pro 5,2
Intel Core 2 Duo  2.8GHz/ 4GB of memory
The machine is currently running 10.5.8. The OS currently installed on the machine in question was originally installed from the same disk.
This is a company machine & the company I work for purchased the DVD and the changing the startup disk has always worked in the past.
There shouldn't be any sort of sketchy I borrowed this disk from my step-brother's cousin's wife.
The disk mounts on the desktop.
When I change the starup disk to the DVD and restart nothing happens. The system restarts but does not do it from the boot DVD.
When I hold down the c key during reboot the machine goes into a booting loop but never boots.
    startup tone/30 seconds(no apple screen)/startup tone, etc.
It seems like there is a problem with the DVD even though it mounts on the desktop.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for responding.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear. The disk was never borrowed.
The disk was bought by a business. Only used by the one business and it didn't come with a computer because it was bought online by one busines who has always kept the disc in their possession.  We have used this disc numerous times to reinstall 10.5.4 on a number of our machines.
The disc in question is black like the box that is comes in. In my experience OS discs before 10.6 (especially retail discs) are not linked to a machine so this has nothing to do with the wrong disc.

  • Hitachi X500 external hard drive not working with MacBook Pro

I purchased a new Hitachi X500 500GB external USB hard drive today and when I plug it into my MacBook Pro the drive makes a clicking noise and never mounts. When I try it on my wives MacBook it boots up fine. I bought one early in the day and the same thing happened, so I returned it and got a new one and the same thing happens. Any thoughts?
Looks like it's formatted with Fat32 when I look at it on the MacBook.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Does the external drive have it's own power brick? If not, it's bus-powered and may not be getting enough juice to run.
Also try all the USB ports on your MBP. Although they are "supposed" to be producing the same amount of power, posts around here suggest that's not always the case.
If the drive does not have a power brick, you can get an inexpensive powered USB hub (it has a power brick) like this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Belkin/F5U403P/
Adding a powered hub fixes problems with bus-powered USb external drives about 95% of the time.

  • What is the best drive to install in MacBook Pro?

I am looking at changing the internal drive in my MacBook pro. 15inch Early 2011 model
Have changed from the original to a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD, that has proven to be a pain, as it has fallen over twice and each time the repair takes over 15days to repair / swap.
So I am looking for a NON SSD solution. Any suggestions on what is the most robust 1, 2 or TB intal solutions, please?
    Thanks

"Have changed from the original to a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD, that has proven to be a pain"
I have now installed two SSDs from OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC
Anything I've ever bought from them over the 8 years or so I've been dealing with them had been a no brainer.
These SSDs went in no problem at all and are working without a hiccup.
This 2011 MBP 13" is running a 120 GB 6 G Mercury from them for almost a year now. I'll never go back to a conventional boot drive!
As BigGee42 says you could also install a large conventional drive just for storage.
Instead of a fusion setup I would look at this:

  • Hard Drive not recognised inside MacBook Pro, however works in enclosure...

    And my question is... WHY?!
Basically, my Macbook Pro took a bit of a knock on the hard drive side. Coincidentally, as it was on at the time, (Whoops!), it stopped responding and the colour wheel of death was apparent. I restarted with option held pressed down, so that I can see if the Hard Disk is still being read/recognised. After doing this a couple of times, I noticed that the Hard Disk was becoming intermittent in its ability to being read. I have also used Disk Utility and Disk Warrior and have been getting the same symptoms. I diagnosed, (more of an assumption than anything), that the Hard Disk is broken and I need another one. No biggy! I have a Time Machine drive, which had just that moment finished backing-up! =) Nice!
Anyway, I got a new hard drive (Toshiba 250 GB MK2552GSX Model no.), put it in my Macbook Pro and it, again, is intermittent, therefore fully disproving my theory that it was the Hard Disk itself. (Seeing as it can be read easily in the enclosure.)
Possibly the connector/the logic board it connects to?? I don't know, there's something broken inside my laptop, but just in case somebody out there has a solution, I'd be VERY grateful as it's my laptop I use for my university studies.
    Thanks!

Does your old drive work in your external enclosure?
The reason I ask is because I've had this problem, but it happened after I replaced the Hard Drive in my Early 08 MBP (MacBook Pro 4,1). Turns out, the i/o cable, where it attaches to the logic board, gets worn/brittle from heat and very easy to damage. The repair at the genius bar ran about $20 for the cable, but I had a generous genius who waived the standard labor fee after I gave him my sad story, so your milage may vary.
I should also note that the Hard Drive on that generation of MacBook Pro is not considered user upgradable, and your swap will negate your Apple Care, if you have it, until all the damaged components are replaced.
    Best of luck.

  • Quicktime 7.5.5 not installing on MacBook Pro

I have downloaded QuickTime for Leopard 7.5.5 and run the install. I follow all instructions including restarting after "Installation Successful" notification.
After restart QuickTime is nowhere to be found, not in Applications and not showing in the sofware section of "About This Mac". Searching only locates QuitckTime help files.
I have searched the QT support forum and cannot find an answer.
I have a first generation MacBook Pro 1.83 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and am running Leopard. I have run software update and all software is up to date.

I had to update my QuickTime and downloaded 7.5.5 and ran the install. I'm having the same problem. Suddenly QuickTime has disappeared from my computer. When I had an earlier version of QT, my iTunes Movies wouldn't play. Now the Movies on iTunes play, but I cannot open any video files from my camera--.AVI files. This is my first time posting on one of these forums. Thank you for your help.

  • External cd/dvd drive not mounting on Macbook Pro with retina display, help?

Hi, I've recently purchased an amazon cd/dvd drive, this one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/External-DVD-LIGHTSCRIBE-Burner-Netbook/dp/B00ABGW9J8, and it's not showing up on my desktop, sidebar or even the disc utility. When I plug it in the drive turns on and I can insert/eject discs, but it isn't mounting on my 10.9 macbook pro, any idea's how this can be fixed?

There have been numerous reports of problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models - both Retina and non-Retina. There was a 'fix' that was issued before ML was released that seemed to have solved some problems but not all. ML was supposed to be the real 'fix' and I've not seen too many post about USB 3.0 problems lately. It just seems as if some drives work and some don't. Apple did issue a tech note about using USB 3.0 ports - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#12 - but I'm not sure that it will help you or not.
I've not read of any problems with TB storage devices, so you'll likely be OK there. It's just those USB 3.0 devices that seemed to be causing some kinks.

  • USB drives not working on Macbook Pro

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro and both USB drives are currently not working. All storage devices work in my other Mac, just not in this one. They do not show up in disk utility or anything. I've attached a screenshot of the system profiler information, because when compared to my other Mac it doesn't show as many USB ports. Please Help, Justin

Hi i'm also having the same problem (Macbook pro late 2011). I have a back-up hard drive that will not connect to my usb either. I have done a PRAM & SMC reboot and neither worked. I read another post that said to erase the usb & retry connecting, but that's not really an option for me as this is the back-up of my entire disk + extra materials (I'm a medical student). I need the data off my hard drive urgently! It was working this morning and now it's not.
Mine does show up in disk utility, but I can't access anything on it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Having problems cloning a new hard drive to install in Macbook Pro 2012

I have a 2009 MBP and I just bought a Crucial 256GB SSD drive. I have cloned it a couple of ways (SuperDuper & CCC) and also tried installing my MBP hybrid drive into the new 2012 MBP. Nothing I have tried has worked. What happens is when I boot I hear a loud beep and then in about 15-20 seconds I get the circle with a cross through it. The original drive in the 2012 MBP works fine but obviously I want all my data from my 2009 MBP + my shiny new SSD drive.
    Any ideas?!?

    Do this:
Install the drive back to your Macbook 2012.  Put your Crucial SSD in a USB enclosure.
Go to your utilities folder and open Migration Assitant and copy the files or apps over using that.
Once you've done that and you can see your files and apps on the 2012 Macbook.
You can now proceed in formatting or erasing your SSD using Disk Utility. Format it MAC OS Extended Journaled.
Open Carbon Copy and start cloning.  Source Drive your macbook hard drive.  Destination: your SSD.
Now hit clone - you will get a pop up sayingt that a recovery partition is was not created.  Create one using Carbon Copy.  Once that's done, proceed with the clone.
Once the clone is done, then install your SSD in your 2012 Macbook and everything should now boot up fine.
If you find your boot time is taking too long after you've installed your SSD, go to system preferences - startup disk and select your SSD as the startup, restart and you should be up to speed now.
Good luck and don't do any short cuts - follow these steps so you won't have any issues.

  • Pages purchased via Apple Store not installed in MacBook Pro

Hi, I bought a new MacBook Pro  recently (Mac OS X Version 10.7.4). I purchased Pages via Apple Store and click the 'INSTALL' button. After that I found that Pages is never installed in my computer (I check the applications folder and could not find pages installed in it). Can anyone help me out.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Dina

    Dear Jerry,
Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the delay in replying.
You are right. There is an application in MacBook Pro (Lion) with the name App Store.
I purchased the software using this application only.
I am sorry. I did not purchase it online in apple online store. I purchased online through this application (App Store).
Finally, I figured out. I had a previous installation of iWork in my MacBook Pro (Lion). I read in the internet
about this and came to know that I should go to Library/Preferences/ and then delete Com.Apple.iWork.
I did this. Rebooted the system and then tried to install. I was successful and now Pages is installed.
Thank you very much for the help.

  • External hard drive not found on macbook pro

I have a lacie 2tb external hard drive.. It started disconnecting itself randomly. I purchased a new cable for it. The problem stopped for a short time.. then it started up, and now the hard drive won't appear on my macbook pro. Ive tried disk utility initially it was there.. but now its no where to be found. the people at lacie seem to think the drive has failed.. Any ideas?

Hard drives can fail at any time... but, as I said, it could be that the SATA controller in the enclosure has gone belly-up. You should be able to take the drive to a standard computer repair shop and see if they can remove the drive from the enclosure, put it in a dock and see if the drive is mountable. It's a 50/50 chance but it shouldn't cost much and should be the first step before taking the unit into a more expensive data recovery facility.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
BTW: My LaCie drives have 3 year and 5 year warranties, respectively - you may want to see if yours qualifies.

  • External Hard Drive not appearing on Macbook Pro or 2009 Macbook

    Hello,
I have a G Technology G-DRIVE External Hard Drive, that until now has worked perfectly.
I plugged it in today to try and back up my macbooks through Time Machine, like I have done for the last year - and on ether of the computers, the Hard Drive is not appearing in Time Machine or Finder. Having browsed online, I found that it is showing in Disk Utility and in System Information - but other than that I cannot do anthing with it. I even tried to Repair the drive, by erasing it and reformatting it - and I cant do it - I keep getting the messgae 'Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.'
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I use this hard drive as a Time Machine Backup, and I'm unable to do so.

At best, it sounds like this HD is flakey so even if you were able to get it working again, I would not trust it.
