Global Cache and Information Broadcasting

I've been reading about the Reporting Agent which was in previous versions of BW, and how when you ran scheduled a query from this it would store the result in the global cache. This meant that subsequent runs of the report would be a lot quicker.
It struck me that this would be a very quick and cost-effective way of speeding up our slower queries (rather than laying down a lot of money on an accelerator).
However, in BI7 we don't have the same functionality anymore - it's been replaced by Information Broadcasting, which seems a lot more suited to distributing pre-run reports than what I had in mind.
Is there a way in BI7 to scehdule reports to run and store the results in cache memory?

Even in Information broadcasting there is am option to fill OLAP cache. You can use this option. Reporting agent is available in BI7. You can use the tcode REPORTING_AGENT to access reporting agent, but note that this work for only 3.X queries and not 7.0 queries.

ICP are an add on the BW system. The BI template wizard for this avaiable ofr dowload from SDN.

Disabling Information Broadcasting

Hi Experts,
I want to disable INFORMATION BROADCASTING tab (for selected USER's) in BEx reports when hosted in portal.
Could you please let me know, how to achieve this.

Information Broadcaster in WAD 7.0

Hi gurus,
I have a requirement where i have to put information broadcaster in a webtemplate. we are using wad 7.0. i created a button and assigned broadcaster command to it. when i click on it but it launches a adhoc query template where when i go to the bex broadcaster nothing is active. all the buttons are faded out.
can someone please guide me how to setup broadcasting service in wad 7.0 with options like xml and pdf.

Hi Maqdoom,
I just want to know if you have J2EE or similar servers installed for the Netweaver portal.
I have faced similar issue when I could not generate PDFs. So, I had to call my basis team & requested them to install the patches & server for Info broadcasting. If so, one it could a technical authentication error -or- the services might not have been installed. Reinstalling might help in the latter case.

Unable to publish to Portal and BEx Broadcaster in WAD

Dear SDN Experts,
We are experiencing the following problem when trying to publish or broadcast a Web Template from BEx WAD to EP portal:
(we are using BI 2004s, SP10, Revision 263 of BEx WAD)
When we create and save a new Web Template, we choose from the menu Web Template -> Publish -> to Portal or BEx Broadcaster. These two options are active but when we click on either of them, nothing happens. The system is not responding in any way.
Does anyone have an idea what might cause this problem?
We have thought it is an authorization issues either on the BI side or on the Portal, but as we have granted all neccessary authorizations we can state that it does not seem to be an authorization problem.

Hi Ivan,
Make sure ABAP and Java Stack are communicating. Run RSRT2 --> Java Web to make sure you are communicating with Portal.
Can you please check if you have authorizations to use Information Broadcaster?
Authorization object: S_RS_ADMWB with the field RSADMWBOBJ = BR_SETTING
Logon to Java Stack Portal --> Business Explorer --> BEx Broadcaster and test it from here. so that you are not having any problem with authorizations or connectivity.

Issue with Information broadcasting and pre-cal server in SAP BI

Hi Experts,
I have issue with information Broadcasting and Pre-cal server. I have a worrkbook whcih runs from information broadcasting in pre-cal server. Workbook is desinged on single query and workbook contains visual basic code. workbook has a variable which is controlled by Control query in information broadcasting.
I have 20 employees every month I need to send workbook via e-mail from information broadcasting. The problem is sometimes all 20 employees will recieve e-mails and sometimes not. I identified there is something wrong in workbook or in pre-cal server.
because after workbook calculation in pre-cal server is not pushing to SOST so there is something wrong in workbook or in pre-cal server.
I closely observed pre-cal server front end log. There are few operations performing on workbook in pre-cal server
like Open workbook, Calculate workbook, Save woorkbook and close workbook. In success case pre-cal sever is performing all the operations but in failure case pre-cal server is missing Close workbook case.

Thank you very much for the reply
I went into RSPRECADMIN and clicked on 'Display Current Queue'. There we have 3 sections
1) Queue Overview of Open Precalculations
I can see this section is always blank after running IB also
2) Queue Overview of Current Precalculations
In this section I can see an entry after running IB and duration is changing. but some time workbook in this section will never processed but the duration column is changing may be something is happening at this stage.
If the entry is not proccessed in this section and IB SM37 job will never end. I manually cancelled the job from SM50.
Don't why the workbook is taking long time and will never end even though I cancelled the SM37 IB job.
3) Queue Overview of Proccessed Error-Free Precalculations
All the error free workbooks which means all pre-cal server completed workbook calculation and sent to SOST.
I manually ran the workbook for all the 20 employees I can't find any pop-up message (earlier we have pop-up windows appearing because of VB code and when report returns no data and we fixed the pop-up issues)
Can you please help me further to trace the error.

Information Broadcasting and Web reporting

1.I am trying to use Information Broadcasting in my system but when i open the query
and try to select the publish Information boradcasting, its not taking me to the information broadcasting page on IE.
what could be the reason, is my system not configured to use IB, if yes then can somebody give me the steps to config the information broadcasting on my system.
2. How to check whether my system is configured for Web reporting or not and what all the config settings do i need to check and where do i need to check them.

Information Broadcasting on Portal and KM

Hello all,
We are about to implement a BI-Portal integration for information broadcasting soon. At present we are planning to integrate BI and it's BI runtime portal for information broadcasting - and our BI Portal does not have KM or TREX yet.
I would just like to confirm one issue. I've read materials but I'm still not 100% sure on this issue: does Information Broadcasting require the KM installation together with the EP?
It says on the FAQ:
In addition, using Broadcasting not only using e-mail but also with the SAP NetWeaver Portal requires the additional installation of a J2EE Server with SAP NetWeaver Portal or KM.
What I understand, do correct me if I'm wrong, is that when you publish into the Portal - it will reside on the PCD or in WebDAV (KM).
Question: is it mandatory to install KM for this scenario? Or can information broadcasting live by without KM?
I believe there are benefits on having KM - like subscriptions or have it accessible via BEx Portfolio under the business explorer role in the portal.. but I'm quite confused as to requiring to have KM installed.

It does appear that KM is required.. but some articles I've read did not point out it be mandatory. So overall, this one's kind of confusing -- well at least for me having no experience on BI-Portal integration.

Can BEx Automatically execute a report and e-mail it. The requirement is to Execute a Report periodically and send the report in <b>EXCEL SHEET</b> format to the given e-mail ID.
I have tried configuring it in HTML format.... but I need it EXCEL format.

Hi,
You can send the workbook automatically when you schedule thru information broadcaster.
But you have to install precalculation server for distributing workbook..

Information Broadcaster: What is Predefined Timepoint? and Timepoint Job?

Hi,
I am using Information Broadcaster. We have some process chains to schedule broadcaster. But before this there 2 jobs.
1. Timepoint job
2. Execution of broadcaster settings.
Can anybody tell me what is the significance of Timepoint job? What is predefined time point, timepoint ID?
All these things are new to me, please inform me all the details about it. If you have any documentation, please provide.
Also please tell me how precalculation is done for workbooks? what is the functionality of Precalculation?

What authorizations for Information Broadcasting are required?

Hello experts, this is a scenario which has recently arisen. We have the BEx Broadcaster properly configured for e-mail broadcasting at least. Users need to be able to use the Broadcaster, in particular the e-mail function for WAD reports. However, we do not know what roles/profiles/transactions must be assigned to them. Whenever users call the broadcaster, the broadcaster wizard popup window opens but displays nothing (sends a "page not found" error). We know it is properly configured since we tested it with a user with profile SAP_ALL and it worked correctly. Since no one has that profile assigned (because of obvious reasons), the Broadcaster cannot be used.
Any suggestions?

Hi, thanks for the links. The users are now able to do information broadcasting. Unfortunately, some users are receiving the following error:

As far as I have seen, this error is not affecting the information broadcasting operations (users are, for example, sending and receiving e-mails correctly). However, I know that there could be some functionalities not working due to this and I would like to fix the error.
Any suggestions?

Scheduling question for information broadcasting

I am confusing between 2 options In information broadcast.
1) executation at pre-defined time
2) direct scheduling at background processing
I have no idea what is the different of each.
I read the sap help but it still does not make clear to me

In BI 7 we have various options..
If you have Java Stack in BI server then it will use Portal and then there you can configure the settings, you need to give one technical name and then schedule the same.
We faced the problem, in my system there is no Java Stack so we used BW 3.5 WAD in BI 7 system and then in WAD we configured the Broadcasting settings and saved with one Technical name then used RSRD_BROADCAST_STARTER program and create Varient for "Broadcasting settings and saved with one Technical name " and in PC after Cube load we given this Program with Varianet , so once dataloads will happen the reports will distributes.

Necessary Notes for Information Broadcasting

Hi Gurus, I need some help in finding solution to this issue even my BASIS team wants me to find. Information Broadcasting (IB) can be accessed in 2 ways, from Query Designer and Web (if properly installed, we have additional tab apart from 'Data Analysis', 'Graphical Display', 'Information' and 4th tab is supposed to be 'Information Braodcasting'). We don't use WAD here.
I can access it from Query Designer not from the query 'display on the web' as it doesn't have the additional tab for 'Information Broadcasting'. I am pretty sure that I need to recommend them to install some additional SP and notes. Please advice me on which SP is missing.
This is urgent, so please respond immediately with some good answers.

The Precalc server is only needed if you want to use Information Broacasting to create and distribute Excel workbooks.
You probably want to install this on a separate PC or server, and if you use the IB to generate a lot of Excel wkbks, you may need more than one.
You can install on your BW Team's PCs if you want, but if you intend to let end users Broadcast wkbks, then look at PC(s)/Server(s) under your control. The Precalc Server is a Windows service that runs on teh PC/Server.
More recent SPs (3.5 SP 19 or 20 I think) have delivered the ability for the Precalc server to queue up wkbks, as it only can run one at a time. Prior to the queueing functionality, you could run into problems if mutlitple wkbks were hitting the Precalc at the same time. There is a new RSADMIN entry that lets you specify how large the queue should be, e.g. 10 wkbks, 20, etc.

Information Broadcaster Utilizes 60 to 90 % of Java Stack CPU

We are currently on BI 7.0 and EP7.0; we have started using Information Broadcaster and we are noticing that it utilizes 60 to 90% of CPU on the Java stack.
One thing to inform is that we are using the same Java Stack for Portal, BI and R/3.
90% of CPU seems abnormal to me (At the peak of its usage the Portal Performance goes down).
Will this issue get solved if we use a dedicated Java Stack for BI? Thoughts Please.
