WAG320N linking to E4200

Hi,
I hope some one can help me.  I have a WAG320N working successfully on an ADSL line.  I now have an E4200 that I want to link to it.   I have it currently set up with the WAG320N using IP range 192.168.1.1 and the E4200 using 192.168.2.1.
The E4200 is setup using the default  - Automatic Configuration - DHCP and the internet port is connected to port 1 on the WAG320N.  The E4200 links to the WAG320N successfully and picks up the correct external DNS addresses.
I want to split the wireless network with the WAG320N providing the 2.4Ghz and the E4200 providing the 5Ghz.
Can someone please tell me what settings I should be using on the E4200 so that it successfully connects to the internet
Thanks
Toby

I am not sure this answers your question but here is the answer to have BOTH devices Linked and broadcast 2 DIFFERENT wireless networks according to your needs .
1) E4200 AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION DHCP - NETWORKS SETTINGS : CHANGE THE IP FROM 192.168.2.1 TO 192.168.2.2
2) WAG320N ENABLE DHCP SERVER AND START ADRESS RANGE PUT 192.168.2.2 TO 192.168.2.XXX WITH SUBNET 255.255.255.0
3) CONNECT LAN 1 TO LAN1 ( WAG320N / E4200 ) USING CAT5 CABLE
4) You should then have them linked and BOTH of them should broadcast a different wireless connection that you can configure however you want , you can then succesfully connect to the internet using E4200 or WAG320N
It's that easy , payed 40 Euros for that setup

  • Trying to link 2 e4200 routers together on same network via a switch

I have had my internet working fine for a long time with e4200 routers joined together via a 5port switch in the middle of the house. I have not ever been able to see computers however hooked from one router to those hooked to the other router. I have made the attempt to use the Advanced routing, but I get constant invalid static ip route when I put in the IP address etc of the other router. What am I doing wrong? I would like to be able to access computers in the other end of the house with shared directories, but I can not see them on the network. I also have a wireless printer that I am unable to see from one room to the other room.
Anyone that can help me set up the primary router that is plugged into the Cable Modem for internet access, to read with the secondary router that has the printer hooked up to, as well as other computer systems, and vice versa. internet goes through fine from secondary router through the switch to the primary router and out to the modem.

I suggest, you do the LAN-LAN router cascade. This link will guide you through it, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Connecting WAG320N to E4200 via Wireless Bridge

I'll preface this by stating I don't know networking in depth, so please excuse my ignorance, with the questions I'm asking.
I purchased a WAG320N and E4200 and have manged to get the modem connected to the internet and it's running fine in that respect, with no adjusting done to the settings. My intentions are to connect the WAG320N to the E4200 wirelessly, as they are in seperate rooms in the house and have done a similar setup in the past with a 7300G Billion Modem and WRT54GL.
With the E4200 I quickly discovered there was no bridge mode out of the box, but checking these forums got the indication that the firmware updates added this capability, so updated it..I entered the IP Address of the Router, the Subnet mask of the network and the Default Gateway / Modem router IP address into the fields, following this guide, but have not been able to get the computers to contact one another, nor ping the other devices.
Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I'm sure there is something I've overlooked, as it's a different setup to the last one I had. Please help .

The E4200 does not connect wireless to other access points. You must connect it with a cable.
It only supports a wired bridge mode but not wireless.

  • Wireless bridge between E4200 and WAG320N - Assistance required.

    Hi,
As indicated on the title, I have both WAG320N and E4200, they are currently linked (wired) together as a bridge (it is not ideal or necessary, but lets move pass this point) and is working fine. But I'd like to place the E4200 on a floor above (which cabling is not an option) and is wondering how the two units can be bridged wirelessly while status quo on everything else.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You would have to use a 3rd part firmware (preferrably DD-WRT). Then you can set up the router as a bridge client (linked wirelessly and usable lan ports) or a repeater bridge  so that the E4200 can act as a repeater, switch, and be bridged to the primary router.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Currently, E4200 defintely inferior to D-Link DIR-655 when it comes to streaming applications

About 8 weeks ago I upgraded from a D-Link DIR-655 single band n router to the E4200, primarily to get into the 5GHz band for streaming Netflix to two different TVs in our house.
The E4200's wireless connections to my laptop's Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN  card are very fast and rock solid.  All of the E4200's wired connections are rock solid.  The router generall performs well as intended.
BUT neither my Samsung BD-C6900 Blu Ray Player nor our WDTV live plus HD box establish a useful connection to the E4200 - with two very different symptoms:
    1) For the WDTV I am using a D-Link DAP-1522 wireless AP to have network connectivity.  The DAP-1522 is less than 10 feet away from the E4200 and the wireless connection to the E4200 get's easily established.  Using an Ethernet cable at the AP and checking speeds, they are very decent, with over 25Mbit/s download.  Problem is:  When attempting to stream anything from the WDTV through the E4200 using the wireless AP, the WDTV always produces an "invalid DNS" error before any streaming even starts - even though it receives its IP address, subnet, DNS etc. w/o a glitch.  When I replace the E4200 with the old DIR-655 (and leave the DAP-1522 AP in place as is) I have no such issues.   BTW - this is independent of accessing the E4200 through the DAP-1522 on either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz spectrum.  And yes, I tried ALL settings, on all three machines (router, AP,  WDTV) including fixed IP, different DNS servers, etc.
    2) The Samsung BD-C6900 also can connect to the E4200 w/o a problem. The Blu-Ray player even shows an "excellent" five bar strength wireless network (2.4GHz band only) .  But the connection is relatively unstable.  And using the Samsung Blu Ray player's internal speed test, download speeds are only around 200kbps - too slow and unstable slow even for Pandora streaming.   Again, just replacing the E4200 with the old DIR-655 fixes the problem - even though the BluRay player then only shows a "good" signal strength, but downloads are around 20Mbit/s.  To me this hints at some inter-compatibility issues between the E4200 and the wireless card built into the BD-C6900.
I've worked this problem for countless hours now.   Only solution that worked: We are now running both wireless routers,  using the DIR-655 dedicated to streaming to those two devices.
All this leads me to believe that the current version/firmware of the E4200 (newest firmware) is suffering from some inter-operability and streaming issues - at least on the wireless side of the router.  Anyone else with similar devices and problems?  If anyone from Cisco reads this – maybe go, recreate the setup and try for yourself. As for Cisco’s reputation – come the next generation of routers in 2 years, I will go back to D-Link.

Thank you for your suggestion.  I wish it was that easy.
We have both Comcast Cable and Clear WiMax 4G - I've been trying it with either IPS connection and several DNS servers.
    DNS servers used:
The DNS servers I tried include
68.87.68.166, 68.87.74.166 (when hooked up to Comcast cable)
75.94.255.12 , 64.13.115.12 (when hooked up to the Clear modem)
and 75.75.75.75, 8.8.8.8, 4.2.2.6, 209.244.0.3 - all of which have very good response times from our location.
All else on the network works fine.  And both of these machines, the BD player as well as the WDTV show correct DNS info.  Again - taking out the E4200 and replacing it with the old DIR-655 also makes the two machines causing trouble with the E4200 behave alright.  Hence it's not a DNS server address issue per se.
Connected to the E4200 using Ethernet cables both, the WDTV and the BD player, work fine.
Which really leads me to believe the problem is how the E4200 handles streaming aspects over wireless.

  • WAG320N & E4200

    Hi guys,
I have a WAG320N modem/router and an E4200 and I would like to create a LAN in my home.
I installed the WAG320N on the 1st floor where I have my DSL cable and other devices (console, laptots, multimedia player).
On the 2nd floor I installed the E4200 with other devices and I configured the WiFi with the same settings of WAG320N so I can move my laptops or mobile devices from the 1st floor to the 2st floor using the same configuration (it works fine).
Routers are connected using the internet port of E4200 to the LAN port of WAG320N (1gb) so I can share the DSL connection.
I would like to create a network using a workgroup (windows 7) and allow the files sharing between devices connected on both routers but I tried a lot of configurations without success :-(
At the moment this is my configuration
    WAG320N
    - RFC 2516 PPPoE
    - IP address 192.168.1.1
    - DHCP enabled (192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149)
    E4200
    - Bridge mode only
    - IP address 192.168.1.2 (reservation from WAG320N)
in this way I have the same network range but it does not work, I am not able to share files :-(
I tried to disable the DHCP server on WAG320N and use it on E4200 but nothing to do...
Could you help me? Could you suggest the right configuration to solve my problem?
    Many thanks in advance!

  • E4200 / Windows 7 Ultimate - Network cable unplugged

Yesterday two of four computers (both windows 7) stopped connecting to the Linksys E4200 router after several months of continued connectivity for one and the other for about 30 days. Within the Network Connections window the Local Area Connection says "Network Cable Unplugged".
I am using E4200 Firmware version 1.0.0.1. - Firmware version yesterday when problem occurred was 1.0.0.0, updated based on Linksys Forum suggestions. I continued the updating to version 1.0.0.2, problem remains. I have since down graded firmware back to 1.0.0.1 based on the majority of the posts this version seems to be the most promising.
I have powered down, removed mother board battery (pain in the ### to get to) reset bios and still now change in Local Area Connection.
When I restart the computers I do notice an attempt by the router to connect to the PC but it does not go any further than that.
I have switched out the cables and tested the old ones on cable testers, everything is fine.
I have also tried the DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle fix outlined by  "smillio" and it has not worked for me.
Both computers are experiencing the same exact problem - Both Windows 7.
I have three other devices connected to the E4200 router which have not experienced any connectivity issues, HP wireless printer (connected wirelessly), XP computer using cat5 and driod phone connected through wireless connection.
My best guess at this point is that the router went to renew the leased connections and both Window 7 machines no longer connect.
Please help, going into another day of limited work productivity.

Try to update the newest drivers of the LAN card installed... For updating the drivers you can follow the procedure:
    # Click on Start --> All programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt….Run and in the run box type "devmgmt.msc" and click Ok...
    # Device manager window will appear and in that check for the LAN adapter.. Right-click Adapter that you want to update and click Update Driver Software…
    # A window will appear asking “How do you want to search for the driver software?".. Click “Search Automatic"...
    # Then click next to update...
Change the Link Speed and Duplex settings to use "100 Mbps Full Duplex" or "10 Mbps Full Duplex" instead of Auto Detect.
You can follow the procedure for Reducing the Speed of the LAN Cards
On the Windows “Start” button, select "Control Panel”
In “Control Panel”, select “Network and Sharing Center” then click on change Adapter Settings..
Right-click on the “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties” from the bottom of the menu:
This will bring up the “Local Area Connection Properties” window.  Select “Configure”
At the next window, select the “Advanced” tab,
under “Property” select “Media Type”, and you will see a value list to pick
“10 Mb, Half Duplex”,  “100 Mb, Full Duplex”, or "Auto Detect".

  • Cisco VPN no longer works with the E4200

VPN issue with the E4200.  Validated that VPN passthrough is enabled.  Using Cisco VPN as the client.  Used to work prior to the firmware upgrade so not sure what has changed.  Error code on the Cisco VPN client is "Secure VPN connection terminated by local client.  Reason 414.  Failed to establish a TCP connection."

  • Disappointed By e4200

I had heard so many good things about e4200. But one BASIC feature i was looking in MY NEW ROUTER was Full URL logging. To keep an eye on my younger brother from accessing wrong sites, i need to moniter his visited sites. And i am greatly disappointed when i found out that only IP addresses can be logged. But Whats the use of Logging IP addresses of visited websites? Is it like duty of customers to check each IP manually where it takes you to?
Dont tell me that i can use Open DNS for this stuff. I expected this feature on the first hand and not using any third party solution.
Thinking to throw it away and get a Netgear Router, Which do actually have Great Features.
    Thankyou.

Thanks for your response.Yes I agree with you  - I put my expectations in the fact that Muse is developing fast.
However, what I'd regard as a very basic feature  for any interactivity (show/hide), is missing. Instead of having abutton that can show or hide icons on a map, I now I have to create a duplicate of the same page that don't show them. So when a user click the button, another page first has to load!
    Clumsy and stupid.
Thanks for the link - I'll have a look at it.
    Regards

I purchased this router to replace a Cisco router (don't remember the model number anymore). I purchased the E4200 back when it was first released. First problem I ran into was it would not recognize the external HD I plugged into it. Yet the same external HD was running on the previous Cisco router with no issues. We could no longer back up over the network to the HD drive. Now, several months later, and even with the latest .04 firmware the router still does not see the external HD. Now I don't know if I should purchase another external HD and take a chance for find a different router. Very disappointed that a feature that worked just fine in the previous model version doesn't work on the E4200.
Otherwise range seems okay compared to my previous router. No better, no worse.

Who is the Manufacturer of the USB Storage Device and what is the Storage Capacity of the device?
With the latest FW 1.0.0.3, it supports upto 3TB Hard drive with NTFS and HFS+ format.
What is the current firmware version on your router ?
Follow the link below on how to check for the current firmware version that your device is using.

  • LaCie 1TB external hard drive can not connect to E4200

I have my LaCie 1TB external hard drive plugged into the USB-port of the Linksys E4200 so I can access that drive wireless.
However, in my disk management (via Cisco Connect), it does not show under Storage > Disk.
How can I solve this so I can access this hard drive from any computer in the network?
The drive is formatted in NTFS.
    Thanks

Connect the hard drive directly to the computer and make sure that your computer can detect the hard drive.
If it is detected and working properly on your computer then connect the hard drive the USB port on the router.

  • E4200 Serious performance problems.

I am replacing 2 bad dlink dir-655 wireless routers. Hey, I have kids and they spill things.   Regardless of the reason.  I decided to try the e4200s due to the dual band ability.  Wow I am so disappointed in the performance.
My setup is as follows.  I have a cable connection 20meg/1.5meg, the cable box is a arris wbm760.  Direct connect to one of the E4200's.   My Desktop pc has a Linksys Dual/band  wmp600n with latest divers.  I am running windows 7.
the other e4200 is linked via a network cable and setup per you documentation on how to bridge the 2 routers.
If I run my 50' cable to my desktop and run a speedcheck or connect my notebook to the cable modem I get
Download Speed: 20874 kbps (2609.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1541 kbps (192.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 5 ms
    Monday, April 18, 2011 10:16:45 AM
Use the Wireless network, Note I have direct line of site and < 50' distance to wireless router.  I am getting downloads of < 10kbps, and uploads are pretty much on par with the cable connect at 1521 kbps.  Latency is 13ms.  < - this seems high.
I am running the latest firmware.

Have you tried changing channels to check if the transfer rates would vary?

  • E4200 - signal strength of connection is not good

This is my third router in less than ten months. I am a big Buffalo Tech fan. They make solid routers and sell it for a lot lesser than Cisco. Warranty is better too. Unfortunately, for some strange reason, both Buffelo Tech's routers would turn off the radio after 24-36 hours. I am sure that it had something to do with the Atheros chipsets, which those routers are based on, and some signal conflicts due to a large number of devices in my work area. So, I decided to try Cisco E4200, which is cream of the lot in the home router category.
Things, which I did not like right away:
    1. The physical design: Though pleasing to look at, this impractical design take too much room on the surface. There is no option to mount it on the wall (Which is my preference.)
    2. Installation: In an effort to make it idiot proof, Cisco decided to just include a CD for installation. I am fine with that. I popped the CD, and connected the router through the cable to my laptop. That was not enough, the installation program wanted to configure the router without the wire. It expects, Windows to have networking control. My Lenovo does not have the setup which the installation program expects, so it gave up, and expected me to call Support.
    3. Knowing a thing or two about networking, I decided to configure the router using the Web Interface. The logon screen came up asking me to enter the userid and password. As a reasonable person, you would expect to find this information on the accompanied CD. Guess what there is no user manual on the CD. There is a link for the User Manual on the CD, which tries to take you to Cisco.com. My router was not configured yet, so how do they expect me to go to Cisco.com. This is perhaps the most idiotic action on Cisco's part. Cisco could have included a little sticker with the default user id and password (admin/admin) on the router somewhere.
    4. Performance: It is ok. The signal strength of Wifi connection is not as good as my previous Buffalo Tech routers.
Things I liked in this Router:
    1. Configuration Options
The configuration option (Once you know the userid and password) are just perfect for a SOHO user. Cisco has made a great effort to simplify technical jargons into simple terms. They have eliminated unnecessary complicated settings, which most of us never user, yet leaving behind, enough to satisfy a medium level user like me.
    2. I really like the Guest Mode, which gives your guests a password protected Wifi network, yet keeping them isolated from your own network.
    Things to watch out:
This is a dual band router, which means that it gives you two separate frequencies to operate your Wifi Network.
    A - 5.6 Ghz
    BGN - 2.4 Ghz
Make sure you have separate SSIDs for the two networks. It is a very common mistake people have made.

Yes you are right the SSID for both the networks has to be different.. and apart from that regarding wireless in 5 GHZ you can try channel width as 20MHZ only and wireless channel to 149 or 161.
In 2.4GHZ you can try with channel width as 20MHZ and channel to 6 , 9 or 11 and then observe the wireless connection..
Make sure the firmware should be updated as well.

  • E4200 - Okay router, setup issues

I chose this router over the Netgear N750 because of previous bad experience with their customer support and over the Asus RT-N56U b/c of a compatibility issue with a specific application.
The Cisco Connect Software is very poor software. No OSX Lion support so I could not use my Mac for setup and it could not even detect the router on a wired connection on a Windows 7 PC through a simple Dell unmanaged switch. Even the router setup software built into Windows had no problem with that. I had to rely on manual setup which was straightforward.
Range was mostly adequate for me with both 2.4 and 5 Ghz over 5,000 sq. ft. of indoor space with no direct line of sight, through many walls, multiple floors, and the outside patio also, although with a few connected devices I found the 5 Ghz band somewhat unreliable at times. Wired gigabit performance was good enough for my purposes.
Overall a decent router, not bad, not great.

It seems like you are using an outdated version of Cisco Connect Software… There is a new release of the Cisco Connect Software that supports Mac OS X (10.7 "Lion")… So you need to download the latest Cisco Connect from the Cisco Website (homesupport.cisco.com) or you can use this link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/E4200 ... After downloading you need  to set the router to factory defaults, power cycle the whole network and then run the Cisco Connect that you downloaded…

  • Is there any one who knows how to apply machine learning algorithms to the spectrum data collected using ni usrp for ism band to use spectrum efficiently by link adaptation

    Hi,
may i know any one working in cognitive radio research and applying machine learning techniques using the spectrum data collected from NI usrp kits

Can't edit my message anymore, so for the tldr crowd (too long didn't read), here is a shorter version:
    The good:
E4200 worked fine for about 15 hours with great throughput and link quality (with one brief disconnect in the middle - online gaming software shows brief disconnects that otherwise go totally unnoticed).
    The bad:
Wireless on the E4200 stopped broadcasting entirely (to a Windows 7 laptop with a 802.11n 2.4 GHZ USB adapter).
I had switched between two adapters that use the same chipset, same driver and in fact show up as a single device in device manager) without rebooting the router but it worked (fine) for an hour after I swapped the adapters.
Right before I rebooted it, I checked and the E4200 was not hot to the touch and wired internet was still working after the wireless radio stopped working.
A reboot of the router cured it.
The open question as to the root cause:
Now I want to know whether this wireless radio ceasing to broadcast (requires a reboot of the E4200) will happen daily?
I.e. I want to know whether it it really is overheating (then again why would only some have that problem needing to reboot daily while others have gone weeks with the E4200 without a single reboot being needed and without any problems occurring) or whether it had to do with changing the adapters back and forth without rebooting the router. Keep in mind that the router worked fine for an hour or so after I stopped swapping the adapters.
    Extra question:
Will getting a Cisco AE1000 USB adapter perhaps help? (I know this is a loaded question and their is no easy / sure answer, but even a "maybe" or reasons why it might help at this point would be better than nothing.
Any similar experiences (with the router needing to be rebooted to get wireless radio back on) would be appreciated as it may help myself and others experiencing these types of issues.
