"wait 20" goes 23 minutes when the computer sleeps for 3
I have a script that is supposed to perform a certain function after 20 minutes. When I leave the computer and it goes to sleep, the script pauses until wakeup.
Can anyone think of a way for it to adjust the wait time after wakeup or to take into account the sleep time? Any ideas might help.
Sorry, I thought of a better way to handle this I think. I'll ask it in another topic.

I'd like to create a workflow that runs every time the computer goes to sleep. Is it possible to do this?

Loss of Airport / Airtunes when the computer 'sleeps'...??
Does anyone know why when I the computer wakes up after i put it to 'sleep' it cannot find the Airtunes base station. It knows my 'Airport Network' but cannot find the white thing in the wall socket!!??????
G4 iBook 800Mhz (old skool) Mac OS X (10.3.9)Yea I had thought it may be that!
The antenna obviously works fine as it does get signal when the lid is nearly closed!
hmmm...one to send back to apple after my studies are done then you think!?
Thanks -
I have recently gotten a MacBook Pro (through my highschool so it is monitored by them) and ever since I brought it home it's been having wifi connection problems. It says the wifi is working fine, it shows full bars, but when I try to connect to the Internet it acts like there is only one bar or no bars. Although every one and a while I can get a great connection but it lasts for about 10 minutes. This I do not get because the wifi works perfectly fine for everyone else in the house and for our phones too. So if anyone else could help me I would be soo happy. Thanks.
I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:
First we’ll do the SMC reset
1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.
2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)
3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.
*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM
1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”
2.) Power on your Mac
3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”
4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Posting this here in the hopes that it will help someone else still searching for an answer. -

Icons keep disappearing off the monitor when computer sleeps for more than 10 minutes
My new HP Pavilion I5-2300 keeps locking up when the computer rests for more than 10 minutes. When i go to wake up the computer the desktop background comes up on the monitor, but all of my icons are missing and no command prompts work from the keyboard. I have just been unplugging and then replugging the monitor from the power source and that seems to reboot the freeze, but i really don't want to have to do this every time it happens. Anybody experience anything similar? Am i missing an easy solution here? Thanks
Hi,
As you can see from the theory this alert could mean two things:
1. Too many powershell scripts are executed on agent simultaneously
2. There are scripts that takes much time to complete
First of all, you need to evaluate a script-based module (workflow). You need to find answers to following questions:
– What is the target for this script-based workflow?
– How many instances of this target class are exist on the affected computer?
– Does this script leveraging a cookdown concept?
– How long it take for script to complete?
Please go through the articles below for more details:

If I put my MacBook Air to sleep with Firefox as the top application, when I wake the computer, Mail will jump to the top. If Mail is on top when the computer sleeps, when I wake the computer, Firefox will leap to the top.
This has only happened for the last week or two; the two aps have otherwise coexisted peacefully for the last couple years.
Does anyone know what's happening and how to make it stop?
Thanks,

Since upgrading to LionEvery time I wake the computer from sleep mode I have to wait several minutes until the computer connects to the Internet
I have found that Lion is slower to connect to WiFi when awakening than were previous Mac OS X versions. However, the WiFi connection usually takes less than 15 seconds unless a Time Machine backup was interrupted when my computer was put to sleep. When this happens and the computer awakens, the Time Machine backup attempts to continue prior to the WiFi connection having been made. Until the Time Machine backup fails due to its inability to connect to my Time Capsule because of no WiFi connection, or I stop it manually, the WiFi connection will not occur. So if Time Machine backups are on, you may be experiencing this bug which I have reported to Apple.

My mac wont turn on. It is charging and the on light is on when the computer is shut but once I open it the light turns off and the screen is black. I turn it off and then on again and the start up noise goes but it is still black - Help!?
Claire, please post your machine specs as requested. There are some variants of the MBP with specific hardware issues. Example: the older "silver key" MBPs with 2.2Ghz and faster processors can have a defective video chipset that produces a black screen or distorted video. That problem is covered under an Apple program that will fix this at no cost to you if you computer is that model.
Do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info..." button. That launches System Profiler for you. The first screen looks like this:
The second line, "Model Identifier" (or "Machine Model" if you are running OS10.4) precisely identifies your MBP variant. Post that, and include it in your equipment info in your profile for future posts. That means people don't have to ask, and you get faster help that is targeted to your specific model. Saves everybody a bunch of keystrokes and you get better advice. -
USB Charging - dead halt when the computer goes dormant?
Hello all.
I've had an iPhone 3G since late August. I normally charge my phone through a USB port on my iMac. This has, until now, always produced the desired result of a fully charged phone. I recently downloaded the most current software update. Since then, when the computer goes into energy saver the charging stops. Instead of picking up a fully charged phone on my way out the door to work, it's often at half or three-quarter charge. Charging resumes normally once the computer is woken.
Has anyone else had this trouble? Any thoughts? It's easily solved by hooking it up to a wall socket...but I'd rather leave it hooked to the Mac. Any help is appreciated.Note sure what has changed, but the following was copied from this link.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
Connect the device to your computer (not your keyboard) using the included cable to charge the battery and sync. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If the device is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged into power and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPhone or iPod touch may not charge. -
Should the fan in my MacBook Air be running when the computer is shut and asleep?
Mine is, and this seems like a waste of battery life. I feel like the fan used to shut off when the computer was shut. But now, even when I close the MacBook, the fan still runs as fast as it did when the computer was open. Anyone know what the heck is going on here?
Yeah I think it is a Mavericks thing. Mine actually wasn't too bad. I closed the lid at night when my power was at about 52% and the fan kept going. I just went to bed, and in the morning, the fan had stopped, and my power was still around 51%, so it didn't eat any of my power like I thought it was going to. Mavericks must have the ability to cool your computer when needed even after you close it. It actually turned out to be not that big a deal.

I have an imac that I've had for a couple years. The fans have always been loud when running at the slower speeds. When the computer heats up enough for the fans to run at a higher speed the fans quiet down. I had installed SMC fan control after multiple attempts with Apple to get the fan issue resolved. That seemed to keep the fans quiet enough. I've never had a problem with overheating. Recently the fans were becoming loud again even running at the slightly higher speeds so I took it to my local Apple store and they replaced the hard drive fan. I got it back and it's now as loud or louder than ever!! And, now SMC fan control won't "stick." The fans will speed up, but then gradually go back to the lower "loud" levels. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.
Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week. -
I bought a used macbook pro from a friend. Software updates are available, but when I try to update, the computer asks for apple id and will only accept the former owner´s. How can I connect my macbook to my apple id?
The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them. -
MacBook Pro's fans start running at high speed when the computer is asleep. Normal?
The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?
This is not normal. See if a SMC reset solves the problem:

System sleeps when the computer shows 40% on a calibrated battery
When my 12" 867 MHz G4 powerbook is fully charged and has been calibrated several times, it sleeps when the computer said that I have 40% life left. Obviously, my machine has a problem knowing how much juice is left in the battery. I have already calibrated it, and when it sleeps, it doesn't even give me any warning. I have destroyed several CDs in the middle of a burn. Any help?
I started having the same problem recently. For a while (a year, maybe), I would get the low battery warning around 30%. In the last week, it has started to go out at about 45-50%, with no warning. I've tried recalibrating. I'm going to reset the Power Manager, then recalibrate. If that doesn't work, I'm going to replace the battery, which is three years old and has gone through 373 load cycles.
