Wait for Mail update or shift to Outlook 11

Hi, I have recently purchased Mac Office 2011 (Prof) primarily because of word and excel which suites me. However, I also realise that Outlook 11 has come as part of the deal-it looks nice, very fast and all the positive reviews in different net forums. Now, I shifted to Apple Mail from entourage 1.5 years back and it is indeed a nice simple system. However, as we all know there are limitations the main one that is affecting me is the attachments often getting converted into .dat files for the recipients using windows (they have started complaining). There are of course all other smaller troubles like missing plug ins for the attachments (after re-setting java app as well), change in font size, lack of ability to paste tables from excel or limited html support etc. Having said so-the Apple Mail works and works very fast, nicely integrates with iCal (though that doesn't matter to me as I use Google), Bento3 as well as iPhoto.
Now, I am not clear whether to take advantage of the Outlook 11 that is sitting on my dock or to just leave it alone. This becomes a paradox because Apple might upgrade the mail system when Lion is released. A small minority of you might have faced similar dilemma as mine and would appreciate if you share what you decided to do. Suggestions from other experienced Mac users would be very useful as well. I have never seen such a problem, and I exchange attachments with Windows users all the time. In Edit -> Attachments, is Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments checked? If not, check it. And are you sending messages in plain text? IMHO, that is always preferable when sending to people using Outlook on Windows, as it seems to live in its own private bubble that doesn't follow the rules the rest of the e-mail clients out there tend to follow.

Only Apple knows what they will be doing and they have not told outsiders yet. Maybe new harware in about a year but maybe earlier or later. If you wnat the4G purchase it.

Outlook is a mail client for PC's and Macs. There is no such thing as "Outlook" for iOS.

One of my apps is "waiting" for an update. Its been "waiting" for 4 days. It wont delete (so I can re load it). Sadly its not in i tunes as I put it on after the last sync and it wont for some reason sync either. Any ideas?

One of my apps (actually on my daughters i phone 5) has been "waiting for 4 days to update. Rebooting doesnt cure it nor does trying to delete it - it wont delete. I have looked at her i tunes account but she hasnt sync that for ages and the actual app isnt in i tunes but just on the phone. For some reason the syncing isnt working either in realtion to this app. There is adeqaute memory - good strong wifi signal. Any ideas??

Download the app on iTunes under her account (you've already paid - you won't have to again), then sync the app across to the phone that way and it should clear it up.
It's possible the app is too large to do over the air and it started on wifi but wasn't able to continue and got corrupted.

Waiting for GPS - Updating map app

Hello, I have a E71 and when I launch ovi maps and try to use it, it gives me the message: Waiting for GPS
Sporadically it finds enough satilites to calculate the position but most of the time it gives me that error message for hours.
Second thing is that I tried to update the ovi map app on my phone but I can't figure out how to do that. I have now version 3.03 and I tried to update using http://store.ovi.com/, but it gives me a message that it can't be updated using the site. I also tried the Nokia Suite for that but I can't find the app in the suite software.

Today, navigation worked for about 20 minutes well! It worked fine, was able to find enough satelites and I was able to navigate and I was happy..., but then the fun ended and now it gives me the waiting for gps message again and the app can't find more than one satelite to determine position! By the way, I didn't changed any settings from the moment it worked.
- About the version of the ovi map software, I googled a little and found pages talking about v3.04 and v3.06, for example here!
- And than about Google Maps, can you maybe tell me how to install it? I searched in the Nokia Suite but I couldn't find it but maybe I do something wrong!

you realize - I tried to gently show - that this is a forum for workstation users, so you know that, right?
And I would not expect any real change until Intel comes out with the second phase of their cycle with Ivy Bridge mobile processor family in 2013-2014 - and it is more complex and costly - but Intel basically sets the stage for what new hardware will be available to OEM vendors - atleast those using Intel processor and logicboard.
Our two year old Mac Pro towers still hold up well even though they have fallen behind in SATA performance, support is there but not a newer Apple graphic card, and no Sandy Bridge or Ivy processor - or USB3 and Thunderbolt. But then they hold up well in performance and from breaking down and good investment llkely to last longer than most laptops and parts.
But everyone is clamoring for a new 2013 Mac Pro tower.
So it really was, for me, confusing just what update you could mean when a rMBP just came out, iMac are overdue, and Mac Pro is already waiting for a real major update but not until 2013 sometime, when Intel and everyone is ready - and likely to see some new high end graphic card offerings.
You should add a tower to your laptop then, start saving, would make a nice add-on to have - and starts are around $2K.

I keep geting asked to update FireFox and when I do it gets stuck in a loop "waiting for the update server", am I doing something wrong?

I'm running FireFox 4.0 and get asked to update. When I go thru the steps I get to a Software Update window that says Downloading Firefox and has a status bar. Under the bar it first says "Waitng for the update server" then it goes to "Connecting to the update server" but goes on forever and never gets anywhere.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.

Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

No one at Apple who knows that answer is going to ready or reply to your post. This is a user-to-user tech support forum. I can help you get your iPad working with your current network, but that is all.
Apple is always working on updates for all current products. If there is some way they can improve compatibility with more 3rd party routers, they will certainly do it. That is no guarantee that any potential future improvement will help you. The best solution is to replace your router with one that works with the iPad.

When I click on a Firefox update My Mac Mini Os 10.4 just keeps running how long should I wait for this update to complete.

The update just keeps running it seems that it will never complete the update like it is stuck in one place with out progress.
I have the indicator on my screen going but no advancement.

Are you shooting RAW and using in-camera settings, like Active delighting in your Nikon? Then the RAW files will appear in Aperture very different from the JPEG previews that your camera is showing you, and also from the results in Nikon's own software.
Don't use in-camera setting, if you are shooting RAW, because Aperture will show you the naked RAW file, without any effects applied.
