Wait or not?

Yes, I know - another thread about 10.6's potential issues. Please bear with me here
I have a 3 month old MBP - so a very new Mac. I do not use Exchange and really the only thing that I will benefit from in SL is the faster speeds. So:
1. Do I install SL now or wait until 10.6.1/the first slew of bug fixes?
2. If I install, would you recommend an upgrade or a clean install? I don't really have much stuff on my Mac.
3. Are the varied install problems with SL very common?
null

I am fairly new to Mac's myself, but decided to just read through the compatibility list to see if any of the software I was using was not compatible. Seems there were only a few and all those already have updates. So, I decided to go for it. Thus far no problems with Snow Leopard!
I see no point in waiting unless there is a program that you really need that isn't compatible with little hope of them updating it anytime soon. That would seem to be pretty rare. I would imagine this week we'll see a lot of updates coming from software vendors for Snow Leopard updates.

    HELP!!!!!! I'm trying to download a few game/apps on my iPad and it's just saying waiting and not budging????? Anyone know what this might be? Please help me!!!

    Although having it loading 5 at a time is not ideal, the iPad is more than capable of doing it, it merely pauses those after the first requested. It will install one at a time then go to the next, installing one at a time rather than trying to do a group like this shouldn't yield any great benefit.
    Also don't forget that some apps are hundreds of MB in size so depending on your internet connection will just take a lot longer to download than those which are only 1 or 2 MB in size.
    I only have a 0.8MB broadband connection when it's at it's fastest so am used to checking the sizes of apps before downloading, it's very frustrating when you forget and hit download only to spend the next 30 mins or so watching a blue progress bar creep across te 10 mm of icon space!!

  • Wait for note recording...

    i am a noob. i admit. this is my first night with logic and i am having a hard time finding a "wait for note" recording option. i found where to change the count in but i was needing a wait for note because i am recording something previously recorded on my fantom. any help would be appreciated.

    Well it is another beautiful day here in southern California. The smoke is so thick I can't even see the mountains a few miles away. Now that wind has shifted, It's all coming our way
    Anyway, You have a few options to get your beats from the Fantom into Logic. Now if you want to get the midi notes into Logic. After you get a midi chord hooked up from the out of the Fantom to the input of your midi interface, and you can see you are getting midi signal, try this
    1st you could just make sure both Logic and the fantom are the exact same tempo, set Logic to record and as close to a down beat as you can press start on the Fantom. After you record the part open either the Event list or the the Piano roll editor, selects all, and just drag your first note to be right on the beat, as long as all note are selected all will line up. If you have any timing drift and some notes are not lining up to the grid you can always quantize them
    2nd you can always slave logic or the fantom to MTC (midi time code) so that they lock up real tight. how to do this is described in chapter 36 of the manual. if you want to slave logic to the Fantom you have to do it in MTC because Logic 8 no longer slaves to midi beat clock. After you look over the manual and you need further help on this ask.
    If you have more that one midi channel that you want to send to logic, you can send them all at the same time and have logic separate them. Switch on the File > Project Settings > Recording > “Auto demix by channel if
    multitrack recording” option. Then create as many tracks in logic that you have in the Fantom and set each Logic track to match the midi channels. then record enable them all, pressing the record button on each track. Chapter 14 page 382 explains multi-track midi recording.
    You can also record all midi channels at once on to one track, and then from your region menu select "split/demix> demix by event channel" and that will separate all midi channels on to tracks
    Anyway, this will get you started, let me know if you need more help

  • Direct Path Read waits are not showing in Elapsed time

    Hi,
    I'm having a question regarding interpretation of a SQL trace file. I'm on Oracle 11.2.0.1 HP/UX 64 bit.
    Following is only the overall result of the trace (it is quite big).
    My question is about the Direct Path Read waits which are totallizing 268s of wait but are not showing in the fetch elapsed time (49.58s) and are not showing anywhere in the trace except in the overall result.
    I do not understand why it is not part of the Elapsed time...
    For info, the trace is for the specific session that was performing all the required queries to display an online report. The database is accessed by the Java application using Hybernate.
    The trace was obtained by the following SQL:
    exec sys.dbms_monitor.serv_mod_act_trace_enable(service_name=>'SYS$USERS',waits=>true,binds=>true);Then I query the sessions to find the one created by the application.

    I suggest you try the following to narrow down things:
    1. Open the RAW trace file and check the cursor numbers of the "direct path reads" - check if you can find any references for those cursor numbers manually. The cursor numbers are those numbers behind the WAIT #<xx>, and you can check if you find any other entry unequal to WAIT #<xx> with the same #<xx>, for example EXEC #<xx> or FETCH #<xx>
    A short primer on how to interpret the raw trace file can also be found in MOS document 39817.1
    2. Run the RAW trace file through alternative free trace file analyzers like SQLDeveloper (yes it can process raw trace files), OraSRP or Christian Antognini's TVD$XTAT. If you have My Oracle Support access you can also try Oracle's own extended Trace Analyzer (TRCA / TRCANLZR). See MOS Note 224270.1
    Check if these tools tell you more about your specific wait event and oddities with the trace file in general.

  • COMMIT WORK AND WAIT does not work

    Hello,
    I know this question has been asked many times in various forums. But the fact remains that there is no definitive solution found for this problem which does not involve WAIT UP TO n SECONDS or SELECT until the DB commit has been completed.
    We have an IDoc based inbound interface for creating Project Defintion and WBS Elements. Here is how the code looks like in the processing function module:
    * Create Project Defintion
    CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_PROJECTDEF_CREATE'
      EXPORTING
        project_definition_stru = lwa_proj_bapi
      TABLES
        e_message_table         = lt_messages.
    * If no errors
    CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT'
      EXPORTING
        wait = 'X'.
    * Other code
    * Create WBS Element (BAPI could not be used because not all fields are allowed to be updated)
    CALL TRANSACTION 'CJ11'
    Now while creating the WBS Element, transaction CJ11 returns an error that 'Project does not exist'. This is not correct because the same Project was successfully created in the previous step.
    It is clear that the problem is because of the delay in database commits.
    This happens only with few IDoc's and not all of them. And of course, the problem does not occur if I induce WAIT UP TO n SECONDS after BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT. But this is not the best practice.
    The question is why BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT does not wait even though we are forcing it to?
    Thanks in advance

    Suhas wrote:
    But i am baffled that although the COMMIT has happened earlier why is the data not updated in the DB ?
    Well, it's just a [COMMIT WORK|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABAPCOMMIT.htm] and not a [COMMIT WORK AND WAIT|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABAPCOMMIT.htm#@@AND%20WAIT@@COMMIT%20WORK@@]. Let me quote the ABAP help:
    If you do not specify the addition AND WAIT, the program does not wait until the update work process has executed it (asynchronous updating), but instead is resumed immediately after COMMIT WORK. However, if the addition AND WAIT is specified, program processing after COMMIT WORK will not continue until the update work process has executed the high-priority update function modules (synchronous updating).
    @Sagar Acharya: Well, I thought you were looking for an explanation why sometimes the project isn't created (and you only had posted coding that showed details for step 1) - I'm trying hard, but my mind reading skills are rather limited yet...
    So let's think about step 2 and 3: I assume that you made sure that your coding always references the correct WBS element. Again the commit (without wait) is done already via CJ11 (e.g. check form BUCHEN in SAPLCJWB). I'd expect though that the synchronous update mode should make this work. Since it doesn't, I'd try local update mode, which is what I'd choose in your case anyhow.
    Apart from that my mind is pretty blank, except for the usual silly things to check. E.g. are you sure you're coding is correct, you are handling all return messages and log them for inspection later (e.g. application log), you are certain that the WBS was actually created by the same IDoc that throws the fit (and IDoc was not reprocessed), etc.
    So maybe somebody else has better ideas...

  • Resource_semaphore wait type not matching sys.dm_exec_query_memory_grants

    We are using Red Gate's SQL Monitor to alert (every 5 minutes) when memory grants pending are greater than zero. Several times a day we are alerted on our Devel and Prod servers.
    However, when querying the resource_semaphore wait type using sys.dm_os_wait_stats, it used to register non-zero amounts several months ago, but now is always equal to zero.
    The Devel server is version 11.0.3128 standard on Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit, and the Prod server is version 10.0.5500 on Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit.
    We are storing wait stats for each server in a database, collected every half hour. The Prod resource semaphore was 569 early August 11, then after a reboot at 3:30 AM was equal to zero and is the same today. I have confirmed the current value using the following
    query.
    SELECT * FROM sys.dm_os_wait_stats
    WHERE wait_type = 'RESOURCE_SEMAPHORE';
    Similarly, the Devel resource semaphore was 167 early October 23, then after a reboot at 7:03 AM was equal to zero and has not changed from zero since then. Again, I confirmed the current value using the above query.
    The custom alert code for Red Gate SQL Monitor is:
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sys.dm_exec_query_memory_grants;
    Also, running a perfmon counter against SQL Server: Memory Manager: Memory Grants Pending for
    several days yields a flat line equal to zero, with maximum value zero.
    Looks to me like something in SQL Server's internal stats collection system has broken. Or possibly, I am misunderstanding that these three counters measure the same thing.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
    SQL server internal stats collection is fine it is not broken what you are doing is after restart SQL server cache is cleared and this is area from where you get all your DMV result so before restart you are seeing some value for resource semaphore wait
    and after restart it is gone.
    For query memory grants pending value as non zero it clearly points to fact that there is memory crunch and you need to increase more RAM.
    resource semaphore waits point to fact that your query which is running is costly one and is involving lots of sort and hash you need to tune it.Read below article for resource semaphore wait
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlqueryprocessing/archive/2010/02/16/understanding-sql-server-memory-grant.aspx

  • The metadata edits may be saved in the Cloud but the server processing after the wait will not complete.

    I have a library of uploads in the Cloud about 1/25 of max limit for my Match acct. It refuses to update the status inside iTunes while it updates several versions behind as it pushes my uploads to the mobile devices. It has a threshold?! First, the check items to upload would be a problem. After gertting a majority of matching done - Nada, spins for days.

    All my Cloud activity, now, happens on an additional desktop OS laptop, and not my macmini server proper smart playlist library where reside all the orginal files - it just sticks on Waiting!? Today I Learned » if there is a conflict in the Cloud, then anything uploaded as a .wav: status is matched as an iTunes Plus setting, uploaded designation is treated/converted as a MPEG-4 audio file - only on the Cloud files - which I have never had in my conversion workflow . • Wait cursors not set till end of AbstractAction.actionPerformed()

    Hi.
    Is there a problem setting the wait cursor in the actionPerformed method of Actions? I?m running Java 1.4.1_02.
    I am finding that if I try and set a wait cursor in AbstractAction.actionPerformed() it never gets displayed until the very end of the method, which is a bit useless because this is usually when I want to set it back to the default cursor. The result is that I never see the wait cursor when I execute the action.
    I don?t have the same problem with setting cursors in JComponent.actionPerformed().
    Does anyone have a solution?
    The following code fragment demonstrates the problem. It is from a class that extends the abstractAction class. It calls a method of my own to set the wait cursor ( on the root container and its child components ), then sleeps for a bit. The wait cursor is only shown after the sleep.
    public void actionPerformed( java.awt.event.ActionEvent oActionEvent )
    ESTrace.printMsg( ESTrace.LEVEL_3, "Start of ESAction_NEW.actionPerformed.");
    ESValues.m_oUtils.setGlobalCursor( new Cursor( Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR ) );
    ESTrace.printMsg( ESTrace.LEVEL_3, "ESAction_NEW.actionPerformed. Start Wait");
    try
    Thread oThread = Thread.currentThread();
    oThread.sleep(15000);
    catch(Exception e)
    System.out.println("Wait exception");
    e.printStackTrace();
    ESTrace.printMsg( ESTrace.LEVEL_3, "End of ESAction_NEW.actionPerformed");

    If you set the Field 'Comb' value to show a specific number of characters, then you can use this in the Custom Format script:
    if (event.target.comb) {
    var l = event.value.length
    var m = event.target.charLimit
    var x = m - l
    var s = ""
    if (event.value != "") {
    for (var i = 1; i < x; i++) { s = s + "." }
    event.value = event.value + s
    Note that this will space the characters out to fit the width of the field, and may not line up with other fields properly. Otherwise, without using a monospaced font, I don't know if there is a way for you to know how many periods are needed to fill out the field.
