Wait to register Applecare?

I just bought an Applecare Plan for my one month old 20" iMac Core2Duo and I'm trying to decide whether to enroll it now or wait. Here's my reason for waiting.
Let's say I enroll it now and in in 6 months I have a problem with the iMac which would require replacement of the iMac and which would be covered under the original one year warranty. In that case, my Applecare could be transferred to my replacement which would then have only 2.5 years Applecare coverage (the original 3 yr, minus the 6 months already used).
On the other hand, if I wait to enroll until anytime up to month 12, then I would still have a brand new unenrolled Applecare Plan to use on the replacement iMac, again waiting until anytime within the first year.
For the sake of this discussion, let's disregard the 90 days phone support, and just consider the actual warranty. Is there something I'm not thinking of or is this not a valid reason to wait?

The language is very straight forward, not the usual legal doubletalk associated with many warranties. (emphasis mine)
Warranty Coverage
Apple's warranty obligations are limited to the terms set forth below:
Apple, as defined below, warrants this Apple-branded hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period"). If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Apple will either (1) repair the hardware defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product. Apple may request that you replace defective parts with new or refurbished user-installable parts that Apple provides in fulfillment of its warranty obligation. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Apple's property. Parts provided by Apple in fulfillment of its warranty obligation must be used in products for which warranty service is claimed. When a refund is given, the product for which the refund is provided must be returned to Apple and becomes Apple's property.

  • Can I buy a Mac Pro in the States and then buy and register AppleCare in Australia?

    Hi,
I  am going to buy a Mac Pro in the States but will be using it mainly in  Australia. Can I purchase and register Applecare for the Mac Pro in  Australia?
    Thanks.

Would you incur a fiscal deficit, moreso, by registering a US purchased
Applecare plan, or registering the same plan, bought in Australia?
The AppleCare extended plan is nearly global, and could be bought
nearly anywhere. Some users buy one in the USA, then travel to Japan.
In some cases, the place where you buy the plan is cheaper than where
you may be living afterward; so consider the national sales tax in Oz.
Depending on where you buy the computer in the States, the plan can be
added on and automatically enrolled at the same time. You could wait
and buy the plan in Australia; at whatever currency rate and tax added.
Is there any magic behind the method, man?

  • Can't register AppleCare?

Did anyone have any problems registering AppleCare? I went to the site to do it and I put the Serial Number in and the AppleCare number. Then it takes me to step two and there is a dropdown menu for like type or something and there is nothing to pick from. Anyone seen this?

I have the same problem with the serial number. I register till the 2nd step, it asked me with the purchase day of my APP, and its serial number. then it popped out a window says "The serial number I entered cannot be verified. Please check the product number and entered it again." Well, it is the exactly number on both recieve and product case. The support don't open at night and July 4th, it is hard to wait to know what's going on with this brand new product I bought. Does anyone have the same problem with me but afterall success to register their product on phone by applecare support? I'm worry that the APP I bought from Apple store in Brea CA could be used since there aren't any card to send back to Apple like the post from Doug but the product was handed to me by the sales from Apple.

  • Haven't received the certificate after registering AppleCare

    Hello,
I've just registered my MacBook for AppleCare. I looked on the Apple warranty-checker and the dates have been extended as appropriate.
However, I have not received an email confirmation from Apple that this has been done. I am talking about the email that's called the "certificate", telling me that I'll also get one in the mail soon.
    What should I do?
I doubt I entered the wrong address. My friend who also recently registered AppleCare in the UK the same way I did received the email only minutes after activating AppleCare.
    Thanks in advance!
    Hope you can help!
I can't seem to find an email address (or form) to contact Apple with; and I don't want to spend money calling - yet.

I called them, and they fixed it. Though, I had to pay for the phone call in the UK.

  • HT5696 How do I add my apple TV to my my registered applecare plan?

I have already registered my applecare protection plan for my MacPro, which I have bought two months ago. how do I add my Apple TV to my registration. i tried to do it separately using the registration number of my plan to receive the message that it was already used before.

Assuming the iTunes and AppleTV are set for Home Sharing, navigate to the iTunes library listing under Computers on AppleTV - there should be a new Rentals row along with Music, TV Shows etc.
The movie must download fully to iTunes before becoming available.  Also check it's still in iTunes and hasn't expired due to playing it inadvertently too soon.

  • If I bought an ipod touch 4th Gen in the USA but live in the UK should i wait to register it in the UK before using it?

My nephew has bought a new ipod touch in the US while visiting me on vacation but is goiung back to the UK in a few days.  Can he register it here and then still use it there or should he wait until he goes back to the UK?

    Hi
It should be okay to activate it in the US as I think you can choose your country when you set the iPod up and if it does go wrong, you can always wipe it and start again in UK.

  • Forgot to register applecare

    alright, I'm an idiot.
I bought an applecare when I first bought my MacBook Pro in August 2006. I moved shortly thereafter to start school and never opened the box for applecare. I can't explain why, but I thought I didn't buy applecare all this time. Today, I had to look up some info about my computer, so I opened the bag that contained all the boxes from Apple. And there, I found the applecare box along with the receipt that shows my purchase of MacBook Pro and Applecare. So I tried registering it online. Of course it told me my warranty ended so I couldn't register.
I was wondering if there's anyway I can get my Applecare activate. Last year, when my charger cord melted and almost put my house on fire, I still had to pay to get a new one because I didn't have an applecare. But now I know that I bought it so I would like to register, at least for next 6 months.
Does anyone know what I should do?
Thanks for reading this pathetic post.

Give Apple a ring and let them know what the situation is. If you're lucky, they'll ask you to fax in various proofs of purchases (you didn't throw those away, right?) and activation numbers and other such things. If you're less lucky, they'll politely point out that AppleCare must be registered within the original one-year term of the limited warranty.
As to what happens, only one person can tell you for sure, and that's Apple.

  • Should i wait to buy applecare for my macbook pro until the one year warranty is almost up?

Would i benefit from waiting till the one year warranty  is almost up.  Because then i would maximize the time in which it is under warranty right??

If you get AppleCare before 90 days is up you also continue free phone tech support from Apple - so by getting it as early as possible you increase the time you can get free phone support. If you go past 90 days you won't be eligible for free phone support until you get AppleCare, but still get hardware warranty for the full one year from date of purchase.

  • Problem when registering AppleCare

    Hi guys,
I've just bought a second hand Macbook Pro, Unibody Mid 2009 Model, which is still under warranty until Dec 2010. I also bought an AppleCare box (with sealed box, not like stuffs on eBay). But when I come to Apple Website to add AppleCare to my laptop I got this error:
"We're sorry, but we are unable to complete your request at this time. Please check your information and try again, or contact us."
I called to AppleCare support line and a guy asked me the serial number of the laptop, then he checked and said the laptop is registered under someone else's name, so that I can't add AppleCare under my Apple Id.
I asked the seller but he said he has no idea cause he got this one from his friend... bla bla..
Do you have any idea about this problem?
How can I add AppleCare to my laptop?
I really appreciate for all advice.
    Thanks a lot.

Given the circumstances, I think the onus is upon you to track down who was the original (and warranty registered) owner. Apple is not going to change anything based purely on your word (I'm not saying you are saying anything untrue, but from their perspective, the only factual information they have is the original warranty registration).
As long as the machine is listed with someone else's name and contact information, there will be no way to register the AppleCare.
Apple does allow for the transfer of warranties when items are sold person-to-person, but the original owner has to do it.
P.S. this is taken from Apple's warranty PDF, and explains the process of how to transfer a warranty
    "6. Transfer of Plan
Subject to the restrictions set forth below, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of
your rights under the Plan to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include the original
Proof of Purchase, the Plan's Certificate and all of the Plan's packaging material, including printed
materials and these Terms and Conditions; (b) you notify Apple of the transfer by sending, faxing or
e-mailing notice of transfer to Apple Inc., ATTN: Agreement Administration, MS: 217AC, 2511
Laguna Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95758, U.S., fax number 916-399-7337 or [email protected],
respectively; and (c) the party receiving the Plan reads and agrees to accept the Terms and
Conditions of the Plan. When notifying Apple of the transfer of the Plan, you must provide the Plan
Agreement Number, the serial numbers of the Covered Equipment being transferred and the name,
address, telephone number and email address of the new owner."

  • Info Not Found - Serial number not recognised after registering Applecare

    Hi ya
I registered my Applecare yesterday, checked my warranty status and it still said I had until Feb 08. So i did a bit of snooping on the forums and read that Apple can take up to 4 days to update the info about my MB.
So... this morning I checked the warranty status again by inputting the serial number and
    "Info Not Found"
    What?
I am putting in the right serial number. I tried it on Safari and Firefox. About 8 attempts say 'Info Not Found"
    So what's going on?
Has anyone had this happen or have any ideas?
Might Apple be updating this info now?
    Am a a bit worried

    Hi Jack
I bought mine from eBay from a seller with 100% feedback. He sells only Apple products and all of his buyers say they have registered with no problem.
I bet i'm the unlucky sod to be the first to have any problems.
I saved 50% off the retail price and yesterday it said your Applecare was sucessfully registered. So all was looking well.
But now.... God knows what's happening?
I paid with Paypal so I am covered if anything happens. I have the guys home number and mobile number too so I can call him.
If you are looking to buy from eBay then two things.
    A) check feedback
    B) Use paypal.
and if you want to, I aways ask a question first and see how their communication is, just to make sure.
eBay is always a bit pot luck, but I got my brand new MB for £180 cheaper than Apple so I was more than happy with that.
I'm sure this applecare is fine but I just want to know what's going on with my serial number. WHERE AM I?

  • Registering AppleCare

I can't register my AppleCare. I follow the steps on the back of the card I got in my package. I link through the Canadian website and after I login I click "Enroll AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) At the next screen, I can only input USA addresses. How do I get it so I can enter my Canadian address. I spent my hard earned money for this AppleCare plan, and I know Ipods are designed to break all the time, so they can be a cash machine for Apple. Obviously, I don't want to give Apple another $700 for a new Ipod 4 months from now. Thanks

You can register an AppleCare agreement to your computer here.

  • Cant register applecare online

I purchase applecare for my macbookpro.
But when i try to register it online at http://www.apple.com/support/register/,
after select my country, select my computer, it asks for a service agreemet number, wich I asume is my reg number, wich is inside the applecare box, written on a cardboad with the Instructions. Well, is not working...
"The agreement number you have entered is invalid.
Please check the number and click continue to try again."
appears. I did everything i could think of, but i'm lost.
    Help please!

That very well may be your problem. The AppleCare Protection Plan you buy in the U.S. or Canada is ONLY valid in the U.S. or Canada. You must purchase an AppleCare Protection Plan in Latin America in order to enroll it in Latin America.
Once you have enrolled your plan, then you can get support world-wide, but I'm afraid the individual who told you the plan was "global" was only half-right. You can't enroll a plan purchased in the U.S. or Canada in Latin America. But, if you enroll a Latin American plan, then you can get support world-wide. Also, if you live in the U.S. or Canada and enroll a plan from the U.S. or Canada, then you can get support anywhere in the world. BUT, you must purchase your plan from the area you're going to enroll the plan.
