Waiting for Activation message appears after restoring iPhone.

Hello!
I recently restored my iPhone and now it will not connect to any network towers. It keeps saying that I have no service when I usually always do. And it only allows me to connect to wifi. Any suggestions on what to do?

Jenger, thank you so much for trying that out for us. This does seem a little odd to me. I would love to make sure we get you up and running with no issues. Do you have the most current iTunes downloaded on the computer? What I would try to do is try to place the phone into recovery mode through iTunes. The way you can complete this is by powering the phone off all the way. Have the USB plugged into the computer. Plug the device into the USB charger while you are pressing and holding the home button. Keep that home button held down until it pops up on iTunes that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". then you will press on Ok, and then Tap on Restore iPhone, then select "Restore and Update" Please keep us posted.

  • Imessage/facetime waiting for activation problem on a deactivated iphone 5

    Hello people(:
I was just wondering if anyone out there know how to fix the waiting for activation problem for iPhone 5 on 6.1.4
My iPhone 5 is deactivated so it has no service on it. It has a sim card but the sim card doesn't have service and I'm guessing thats the problem.
But i just wanna make sure that it is or if anyones got a solution.
    Thanks(:
    Need answers please

Well I did a restore of my iPhone 5 (deactivated) using my last iPhone 6 backup (activated) and iMessage still failed to activate.  It's funny because this worked on my old iPhone 4.  I don't know what else I did different.
Does anyone know why Apple does this?  Why are they against us using iMessage on a deactivated iPhone?

  • Waiting for activation have not found a way to fix this

Ok so I'm overseas and I cannot use cellular data because I don't want to get billed a crazy amount however when using wifi the first week I was here I was able to text and face time with no problem. Then we went for a week to the country with no solid internet connection however we set up a very weak hotspot using a tablet, that's when I noticed I wasn't able to text and I saw the message waiting for activation since it took around 5 mins to load a web page I figured it was just a problem with the internet and I ignored it. Now we are back in the city (where we were when it worked fine the first week) and I still have the same problem, I have read countless articles about how to fix this and nothing seems to work the only option I haven't tried is to wipe the phone and restore it with a backup however i can't do that since I am no where near my computer. So is there any one else having the same waiting for activation problem as me? Is there anything I can do, any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello there, Captnpnut.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth and practical steps for troubleshooting the "Waiting for Activation" message:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
    Particularly relevant for your issue:
If you see "Waiting for Activation", "Activation unsuccessful", or "An error occurred during activation"
These messages occur when your iPhone is trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime.
To resolve these status messages, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that you have a cellular network connection with your cellular provider. You need a cellular network connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Go to www.apple.com in Safari to make sure that you have a data connection. You need a data connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.
Make sure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Set iPhone to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messages. Restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration from completing.
If "Waiting for Activation" still appears after you perform these steps, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime. You may need to wait up to 24 hours to complete activation. Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. If you've recently performed a remote wipe on your iPhone, wait 24 hours from the time you performed the remote wipe, and then turn iMessage off then back on.You can still activate iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID when these status messages appear. You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID by tapping:
Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • I restored my iphone 4 to prepare it for sale and now it keeps rebooting itself every few minutes saying "Waiting for Activation". What's going on?!

I'm just trying to figure out if theres some other issue at play or if its normal for the phone to keep rebooting while searching for activation. I'd like to sell it this weekend but I don't want to sell a broken phone to someone. I researched this issue a bit online and only found a similar issue having to do with facetime/imessage but this seems to be different. I went through the necessary steps to fix the problem others were having, even though it didnt seem to be exactly the same as mine, but it is still happening. I will say that I got the iphone wet some time ago but it has worked fine since then so I'm assuming its not related. Perhaps the battery needs to be replaced? Any and all input or advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

I should mention it is ios 6.1.3. The phone has now also started, after rebooting, showing the signal bars next to the wifi signal icon at the top but no "Sprint" type next to the bars as usual. And then after a few minutes it shuts down, shows the black screen with the white apple in the middle for a few moments, comes back up with the Waiting for Activation message, the signal bars pop up and the whole cycle just repeats itself.

  • IPhone 4  OS 6 - Facetime is stuck on Waiting for activation.....

    Hello,
I recently got myself a new iPhone and I have been unable to get my Facetime to boot up.  It has been stuck on "Waiting for activation..." for over a week and I am unsure how to proceed to get it to start to work again.
If anyone can help me that would be great.

I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.

  • "Waiting for activation" Error Message

I get a "waiting for activation" message when trying to turn on IMessage and Facetime. I rebooted the phone and reset the network settings but it did not work. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi karla35,
It sounds like you have taken some good troubleshooting steps to resolve this. We have a great resource for this issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268
I've been able to resolve this issue in the past with the section titled:
"Unable to activate FaceTime or iMessage with phone number and Apple ID after waiting 24 hours (iPhone only)"
Please note that step nine is very important, we want to restore from the backup. Do not perform a full restore.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Waiting for activation

I have an ipad and iphone 5c. My daughter has my old 4s. My imessaging works, facetime does not. Her facetime and messaging just quit working, and the waiting for activation message will not go away. I have tried rebooting, removing and replacing email addresses, resetting network settings, removing and replacing sim card, date/time changes, updated ios, updated itunes on computer, making changes in itunes account, --and I've tried all these things in different order and on repeated basis -- all to no avail. I am trying to do this without messing up my own phone. We just moved, our internet service is terrible, but I don't think that's related anyway? I try to add her email address instead of mine, the phone will not send the verification email no matter how many times I request. So I try to set it up under my email and it won't do that either. Help!?

So for those out there suffering from this same problem, after repeating all those random steps mentioned above - again -  with the Apple rep on the phone, it STILL said waiting for activation. They had me back up the phone as a last resort to reset back to factory settings. Before I pushed the reset button, I tested sending a text - and even though in settings it still says waiting for activation - I was able to send and receive texts! Here's hoping it lasts.....

  • Can't get past "waiting for activation" when setting up iMessaging, Help??

I am currently living in Kenya and using my AT&T iPhone 4 to communicate with my family back home in the States over iMessage and FaceTime (through WiFi exclusively). All of the sudden, I turned on my phone and iMessaging had ceased to function as had FaceTime. Upon trying to turn them on and off, I have been stuck with the 'waiting for activation' message and it doesn't go away!
I am tried resetting the date and time, resetting the network, logging in and out of Apple ID, going in and out of airplane mode, resetting my phone, resetting network settings.
Going to the Apple Store really isn't a viable option, nor is calling them.
If anyone has any idea how to solve this problem please let me know!!
    Thank you very much!

I tried what you suggested @fromsouth and still no luck! I am going to have to go back to online chatting with Apple I think.
If you already tried to sign out of imessage, change your imessage password, Turn it on and sign in with email address only and leave it activating overnight.  Then I need to wish you good luck chatting with Apple.

  • Does anybody have a fix with iMessage and FaceTime being stuck on "waiting for activation" for Telstra phone numbers? Thanks!

I have recentlly moved to Australia with a iPhone 4s bought in the UK. Although; I stopped of in the Philippines and bought a SMART sim there and iMessage and Facetime worked fine (as it did the UK), as I got to Australia: My iMessage and Facetime worked for 2 weeks on a Telstra sim then I turned them off doing something and ever since they have not been able to come back online, they are always going on "Waiting for activation", I have tried restoring my iPhone, following instructions online. Nothing, so I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me.
Also: My email does work with activating my Facetime and iMessage, it's just trying to activate it on my phone number.
    Many Thanks,

Please don't post about beta software in the public forums.
Post in the private forums set up just for iOS 6 beta.

If you are in the UK:
Please upgrade your plan to Web n Walk plus. One of our users on T-Mobile UK had this to report back to us:
T-Mobile UK are in fact port blocking to ensure fair usage on their base Web and Walk Plan. I have upgraded to Web and Walk Plus and as a result the port blocks are lifted and I get a higher data allowance!
We were also recently contacted by T-Mobile UK, who stated the following:
Any smart phone (iphone, android etc) that is bought directly from T-Mobile should be automatically provisioned with Web n Walk plus, if customers have bought a handset sim free then they will need to call customer services and get this added. It is free of charge for most price plans (including new plans) but some older plans will generate a charge of £5pm for this.
