Waiting for my new macbook air - doing some research first

Do i have to buy Microsoft Office for Mac in order to transfer my windows files?

What type of files? If you want to use Office files on your MacBook Air, you can purchase Office for Mac, but you can also use iWork or LibreOffice.
If you want to transfer other files, you don't need anything. Just download Windows Migration Assistant on the PC and follow the steps > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796

I have new MacBook Air. When I first got it, I migrated some of my files from my PC to the MacBook Air without any problems.  Now I'm trying to migrate more files, music, etc. and I keep getting the continuous spining circle with "Looking for Other Computers."  I've tried everything and for some reason it is not finding my PC. What am I doing wrong?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I need some tips on transfering my LARGE itunes account from a pc external hardrive to time capsule for my new Macbook Air

I just purchased a Macbook Air that is being shipped as I type, What I am trying to do is swap all the info on my external hard drive that was used for my old pc ( includes pictures, music and very Large iTunes account ) to a 2Tb time capsule that I purchased to use to store all my info for the new Macbook Air that is coming, without downloading it to the Macbook Air first. Im not sure if its even possible to do but any help is greatly appreciated. This is my first Mac and I just want to make this transfer smooth and fast. Also looking to make all future purchases from iTunes go directly to time capsule.

i think you will need to use a computer somewhere in the process
you could try putting Mac OS on the hard drive with the files on, and then booting from the hard drive

  • How do I download Windows 7 64 bit drivers for my new MacBook Air (Mid 2011) from a Windows 7 PC?

How do I download Windows 7 64 bit drivers for my new MacBook Air (Mid 2011)? I have already formated the HD and preformed a clean install of Windows 7. Perhaps I did this too early. I have read I need to install the drivers from my OS X DVD, however, OS X Lion does not come on a DVD! I've also read that I can download OS X Lion from the App Store and burn it to a DVD, however, all I have are Windows PCs which don't support the Mac App Store.
Is there no way for me to download these drivers from a Windows PC?  I know they exist.  However, you are supposed to download them through Boot Camp in OS X when you are creating a new Windows 7 installation.  I'm I stuck?

I am pretty disappointed in the lack of documentation.
This is the Apple Support page for Boot Camp:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
No mention anywhere of Lion, of 4.0/4.01
In the past, 10.6.6+ was suppose to - and sometimes did - provide for a download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant program, in order to save them to flash or such (that should be about 1GB, too large for CD). Some macs req'd a USB-DVD or other driver that was needed pre-install of Winidows
You don't install Apple drivers until after Windows is installed otherwise,
It is possible for me, with a tower, to run w/o needing any drivers from Apple. But with laptops, mini, you do need some drivers from Apple for graphics, internet, wireless, SMC support.
And right now, loading any Apple support Tech Note articles is very very slow.
People keep asking why Apple can't post 3.0 or 4.0 like they do the updates. Only logic is to force t he download from inside OS X or from an OS X DVD. Otherwise would be here, and avoid all the trouble. they aren't of use on a PC, and any PC motherboard vendor does post their support software for download.

  • Did you get a case/sleeve/briefcase for your new MacBook Air? Which One?

I'm wondering what is any case/sleeve/briefcase others bought for their new MacBook Air. I'm in the market, and feeling overwhelmed. If you've bought anything to carry/protect your Air, can you post the make model, and price? thanks!

I had been looking for a case / sleeve for my MBA 11" since I purchased it about two weeks after it was released. Today I re-visited Best Buy and they had a Targus 12" Netbook Slipcase that fits the MBA 11" just about perfectly. The Slipcase is 12.4" x 0.79" x 9.65" on the outside and 11.7" x 1,5" x 8.3" on the inside for the laptop. The MBA slips in the case with no need to squeeze it at all. There is no extra room on the side, but it fits beautifully. The top of the case has only about an extra inch or less. This is the best solution that I have seen thus far. It can be purchased for under $30.

  • Can I trade my MacBook Air for a new MacBook Air that just came out?

I was wondering that I bought the MacBook Air in November of 2010 and I would like to get the new MacBook Air can I just do a trade from Best Buy or Apply?

Well... you can return your Air as part of Apple's recycle program and get an Apple Gift Card for it's value.  Unfortunately, they (well, a company that does this sort of thing) sets the "value" which is nothing close to what you would be able to get on your own:
    http://www.apple.com/recycling/computer/
I don't think anyone intended to insult you.  You sort of implied in your original post that you should be able to exchange something that you purchased 8 months ago.  In fairness, I'm aware of very few places that offer a return policy that liberal.  When you clarified that you could pay up front to be guaranteed a certain percentage of the original value over time... that certainly made more sense (although Apple does not offer the exact thing... but only what I had posted the link to above).
Having said all that... when I purchased my Air, it was only about a month or so before the new ones came out.  I knew that the new ones were coming out.  I was actually concerned about the loss of the dedicated GPU and the fairly significant drop in GPU performance with the integrated Intel processor.  Granted, the new processors are about twice as powerful... that's significant.  But, I don't really do anything processor intensive on my machine.  So doubling the power for me was a non-issue.  I do just want the OS to run smoothly and fluidly and the nVidia GPU in the machine that you (and I) have does a great job.  So not only did I know that new Airs were coming out, I bought mine because I didn't want the newer model.  Of course the new Airs have Thunderbolt as well... but I'm not expecting that to take off for a while yet (and USB 2.0 has worked fine for me for years).  If you do processor intensive stuff, you could have good reason for wanting the newly released Air (although in getting the last model, I would expect you did't have heavy duty processing needs).  I personally am happy I have the previous model and the release of the new model does not devalue mine in the least.

  • I'm looking for a new Macbook Air but I'm not quite sure about the mini displayport connection?

    Hey everyone,
Does anyone know how can I connect the new macbook air to a projector?
Aparently there's no mini displayport.. and I need to use it for presentation..
    Thanks.

  • What do I do if my new macbook air does not accept my password even if I've tried more than a few times?

    Hi there,
Just bougiht a new macbook air and the start up screen is not accepting my password even though I have typed it in a few times and correctly. I have already used this mac previously for 2 days and have added microsoft office today but this is the first time I have logged in since the installation.
I don't understand why the password isn't being accepted. Could it be the installation? Or do I need to reset my macbook air?
Just a note, I'm not proficient using a Mac.This is my first macbook.
    Many thanks for the help.
    Tony

You can reset your password with the install cd or usb ...
Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, that administrator account may be used to reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed).  Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.

  • After paying for a new MacBook Air, I still have to purchase an external DVD Player? That *****!, After paying for a new MacBook Air, I still have to purchase an external DVD Player? That *****!

I am confused about the new MacBook Air.  It would appear it does not have an internal DVD/CD drive as most computers do. Does this mean after the price of this Mac Air I still would have to purchase an external DVD/CD player to load software or play DVD's and CD's ??? That seems like technology is going backwards and the owners just want more money.  If I am wrong, I applogize.
    Thanks,
    Debbie

Floppy drive?   Who has floppy drives in this day and age.  Does anyone sell software on that format?  I don't think so.  At least any software sold today.
I've had my MBA for nearly 6 months now and don't miss having a built-in DVD drive in the least.  First of all, with only a 128GB drive, I'm not "porking" it up with a lot of junk.
The form factor of the MBA is beautiful and wouldn't be possible with a internal DVD drive.  I wouldn't want one anyway.  The only time I've use an external DVD USB drive was to install a few programs that I have on DVDs.
The MBA is about a very light weight computer for use mainly outside of the home.  And this is where it excels. If you really want a DVD, get the Apple unit for $79 or a no-namer on ebay for around $25.  Then use it and park it. You won't need it very often if ever after the first use or so.

  • New MacBook Air does not read Pages properly

I migrated my old MacBook Air (2 years old) to my new MacBook Air (one month old) transferring Pages application and many documents in Pages, which I use to edit a magazine.
At first my new MBA refused to open any Pages documents, so I re-installed iWork from CD (using Remote Disc from my iMac). Now my new MBA does open Pages documents, but with disrespect for fonts:
    - what was in bold appears in regular font
    - what was in italics appears either in regular font or bold+italics
This is a complete disaster as it means I cannot work in the magazine when I travel with my MBA. Plus, I have already given away my old MBA to a friend!
    Can anybody help?
    Thank you !
    Isabel

    Did you moved the folder
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:iWork '09:
from the old machine to the new one ?
This folder contain a lot of required items.
Without them, iWork's applications can't work.
Don't forget that the license clearly state that *_you must remove the app from the old machine_*

  • Am I worth to wait for the new macbooks with snow leopard?

As the day Apple released the new macbook pro 17. I was considering about If I need to wait for the all macbooks with the new operating system. Because I just heard that Snow leopard will come with a 64 bit. But now leopard just is with 32 bit. Some of people said new macbooks with snow leopard will be different from the old models(2008 late), even the macbook pro 17 2009. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.

I think if you need a new laptop you can take the plunge. If you have a look on the apple website on the SL page you will note the following text near the bottom:
+Benchmark based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test on a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and 2GB of RAM.+
That's the sort of specs for a machine that would run the OS well...I think the new 17" MB Pro is well within that ballpark.

  • After the latest upgrade to OSX 10.9.3 I can only see two screen resolutions for my new MacBook Air 11"

After the latest update to my OSX 10.9.3 I ca see only two Display resolutions 1366 x 768 & 1152 x 648 when I choose scaled in my display preferences. As per Apple site the new MacBook Air 11" can show many display resolutions
    Supported resolutions:
    1366 by 768 (native), 1344 by 756, and 1280 by 720 pixels at 16:9 aspect ratio; 1152 by 720 and 1024 by 640 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768 and 800 by 600 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio
Please advise how can I set the resolution to 1280 by 720 pixels as this resolution was more comfortable to me.
