Waiting for network time"?

I thought I had set up Apple TV correctly, and paired it with my silver remote it came with, but whenever I turn it on now, the screen says "Waiting for network time". Has anyone else had this issue? I can't seem to find the answer online or in the manual of how to correct this.

The "menu+down" reset did not help. It rebooted the Apple TV, but upon reboot it displayed the same message.
Taking the device away from the hotel and to my in-laws house let me use it just fine while there. It recognized that it didn't have a network connection and I was able to tell it to join the WiFI and give it a password. I hoped at that point that when I took it back to the hotel that night it would have forgotten all about the hotel WiFi and let me configure it to join the ad-hoc network from the laptop. But no luck. The Apple TV still remembered the hotel WiFi and got stuck again.
I guess the only way to make it forget a network once it's joined is the "restore" option, which reverts it to factory settings (meaning you'd have to re-apply the firmware update). I haven't done that yet, though I ought to while I'm at home and the thing is working, so I don't forget next time we take a trip to a Hampton inn and have it mess up again.
It seems there ought to be a way to make it "forget" WiFi networks, like the iPad and Macs can. Of course it shouldn't get itself into a state where the remote doesn't function and the settings menu produces errors either.

  • Apple TV 2 Waiting for network services, unable to sign in to iTunes store

    Received my Apple TV yesterday.
    It is connected to my network (I have tried wired and wireless).
    I can view movie previews and Podcasts.
    I cannot sign in to the iTunes Store (therefore cant rent movies), cannot view Youtube videos (No content available), cannot use Netflix (Waiting for network services when I try).
    I spoke to Apple support, they couldn't help. They say the problem is with my network or my ISP.
    I have a Linksys WRT160N router, on which I have tried disabling the firewall.
    My ISP is Telus, I am on their Fibre Optic network in BC. I wonder if Telus are blocking Apple TV?
    Anyone else experiencing this?

    I received my Apple TV yesterday.
    I am running cable internet with 10Mbps constant.
    So I connected it up and proceeded to issue after issue. I could not log into my Apple account. It was stating that my name or password was incorrect.
    When I would start the unit it would stay at the waiting for network connections screen for several minutes!
    I did all the tricks of turning the apple of and back on, NO FIX.
    I tried to update the software, and I recieved a message that stated I have the most updated software, so....NO FIX
    I did a full restore. The Apple TV downloaded the newest software and rebooted after about 7 minutes, NO FIX
    I logged into my router and opened all ports, added ports 80 and 123, NO FIX
    I also disabled my entire firewall on my router and turned off the WEP security feature...and what would you guess.....NO F I X!!
    So I logged back into my router and reset all my original settings...still NO FIX.
    SO here is the good part...Apparently the system has to connect to time.apple.com and get updated...it's sort of like a verification of the system.
    So after it updated everything worked great! No unable to sign into my account. NO waiting on network connections anymore.
    So the biggest advice I can give, especially after my 3 hours of gradually wasting my time until I almost threw the unit out my bedroom window, is connect it to your WIFI system and let it sit by itself for a few hours and let it connect to the Apple server.
    Hope this helps everyone that, at some point, has shared my pain and frustration.

  • Cloned volume gets stuck at boot "Waiting for Network File System"

    I've used "Carbon Copy Cloner" many times with success and no problems (v 2.3 , default settings, make destination bootable) as I migrated to larger drives or make backups in advance of a major OS upgrade.
    Last time I was successful, I was at OS 10.3.5. I use 3rd drive to boot my Mac, then clone the one non-boot drive to the other. I do the disk repairs & permission repairs as the normal course of this process, before & after. I am now at 10.3.9. I am do this clone in prep to go to 10.4 so I have a good back in the event of later problems.
    When I attempt to boot from the newly cloned partition, it goes fine on the boot process until it hangs at the "Waiting for Network File System" step and never gets past there. I've never had this happen before. I retired all the steps, even ran "Diskwarrier", but no change.
    I am not trying to run from a remote or network drive, just a 2nd drive in my
    G4 from which I have previously been able to boot (until this last clone attempt that is).
    I googled the symptoms ""Waiting for Network File System"", found it to be common, but no real answers. Is this one of those annoying UNIX things? Any ideas how to fix / turn-off whatever is hanging the boot up? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Kool,
    So there seems to be a "speed-bump" around 10.3.9. No wonder I have had the same results with a different tint. I went to Drive Genius to clone this one. Results with that were interesting.
    If I did a [Device] clone, it would take and show at start with 'option' key... and work just like my internal with 3 accounts on it... login and proceed like it was internal. If I did a [Volume] clone, it would not show up at start with the 'option' key... I'd have to boot it from System Preferences > Start-up Drive. Once booted, it had no login screen so all the files were accessible. I took the clone of this 3 account PB and tried it on an iBook. Had to boot from System Preferences too, also, all the account were accessible from that machine... implying that anyone who had that drive could get past/into my files that would be secure on my computer, but not on the clone. If I took the [Device] clone and booted from the ibook at start with the option key, it would not get past the login screen... altho the mouse worked and I could click on the name, that was as far as it got, Froze.
    So, I have figured, for safety, a [Device] clone is it, as long as the original computer lives. The safety features for login seem to be hardwired in the chip that the clone was made from (The iBook had 2 accounts but not my 3). If safety is not an issue, the [Volume] clone is fine... like moving to a newer OS on the same computer. It would seem from your experimentations that the situations with this 10.3.9 is just a hick-up and is solved in 10.4.3 with CCC v3...
    Thanks for your info... I am thinking of going to Tiger, but I am so fond of this Panther...

  • Hangs at "verifying identity" or "waiting for network to be ready"

    We have an older computer that we would like to use and connect to the internet, but it won't connect through the Jetpack 890L. We have Windows XP Home version 2002, svc pk 2. It will just hang and show the messages above. I have researched and tried several different settings in advanced settings, and received a few different messages. I am afraid our computer may just be too old. At one point I tried "repairing the connection" button and received messages something like "be sure your network adapter is properly connected" -- Atheros 5005g, 2005 version 4.1.2.56-- old! Any suggestions? We are not tech savvy, but thought someone may be able to help us stumble through. Thanks for any help!

    WinXP displays the verifying identity message when it cannot fully authenticate to the network.  Most of the time this is because you are connecting over a WiFi security protocol that is not supported by your computers wireless card.  To resolve the problem you need to select a different security mode or update your wireless card to one that supports the features of your jetpack.
    If you try all of the available security modes (open/WEP/WPA/WPA2) and the problem is not resolved then it is most likely a password conflict.  Wipe out your saved passwords/wireless profiles on XP and start over.
    This same logic applies to the waiting for network to be ready message.

  • Apple TV 2 is asking for network time before I can purchase a movie? Restarted it and still requesting network time. Wifi is connected and works. Any ideas?

    Apple TV 2 is asking for network time before I can purchase a movie? Even restarted it and still did the same thing.
    How do you fix this? My wifi is operating 100% connected and I can access the Itunes Movies etc. How do I get it to work again?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    If you've had it working previously, try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, or a restore if the problem persists.

  • "Waiting for real-time target (RT PXI target) to respond" error when the program waits interrupts

    Hi there,
    I have developed an application to detect interrupts generated by a electronic card and act in consequence. The program has been developed in labview but it calls a dll; that was created with labwindows. The dll is programmed to open the visa communication, enable events and install the interrupt handler and when an interrupt is detected, it reads the value of the different registers of the card and returns it to labview to visualize them.
    The problem is that when the program waits for an interrupt, a prompt appears with the message "Waiting for real-time target (RT PXI target) to respond" and the only option I have is to click on the button to disconnect from the pxi or just wait. If I wait and I generate an interrupt, the prompt disappears and the application visualize the data like it was expected.
    To wait for the interrupt the following code has been programmed in the function:
                    while (flag == 0)
                                    Sleep (1000);
    When an interrupt occurs, the value of flag changes to 1 and the function continue without any problem. I am not really sure, but probably here is the problem and probably this is not the best way to wait for an interrupt because the sleep function suspends the thread for the configured time, but at least the computing load in the PXI is between 0% and 1%. I was wondering if somebody knows how to wait for an interrupt without "lost" the communication with the PXI and if there is a better way to do it.
    Any answer will be welcome and thanks for them,
    Jaime
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Naity,
    First of all, in which thread runs the waiting process? Is it scheduled in another thread than the function setting the flag?
    It scheduled in the same thread that I use to configure the communications and configure the card. Anyway, here is the pseudo code of the function interrupt that I programmed under labwindows,.
    char* interrupt(void)
    1. Open visa communications
    2.Install handler interrupt --> status = viInstallHandler (instr, VI_EVENT_PXI_INTR, IntrHandler, VI_NULL);   // the function IntrHandler will be called when an interrupt occurs
    3. Enable event PXI interrupt
    4. Wait
    while (flag == 0)
                  Sleep (1000);
    5. Visualize the data coming from the interrupt (registers and values measured with the card)
    6. Uninstall handler interrupt
    7. Close visa session
    The interrupt handler function IntrHandler is called immediately when an interrupt occurs and the pseudo code is like this
    ViStatus _VI_FUNCH IntrHandler(ViSession instr, ViEventType etype, ViEvent event, ViAddr userhandle)
    1. Disable some functions of the card to avoid damages.
    2. Read registers and put them in a buffer
    3. Change the value of flag ---> flag = 1;
    In labview, I call the function interrupt with a call library function node (see the capture attached) and the program reads and saves the data from returned from the function.
    Secondly, I am not sure this method is the most elegant. You could for example register an event with the function and, insteand of setting a flag to 1, trigger the event and schedule it in another thread (if the function is thread safe). This could reduce your CPU Load even more and seem a bit cleaner to me.
    I've never used events before in labwindows but I will try to do it in this way. But anyway, I suppose that I should; somehow, wait the event to occurs in labview while the waiting for the event is programmed inside the dll...and probably the same prompt that i am trying to avoid is going to appear again, because I am not returning the "control" to labview (I mean, labview executes the dll and waits for the event to occur. Then the execution of the labview program is stopped in the call library function node executing the dll)
    Third point, which environment of development are you using?
    I am working with LV 2010 sp1 and Labwindows cv 10.0.1 and with the real time module.
    I did also another test, I divided the program in different functions, one to initialize the communication, another to wait until a interrupt has been detected and the other to obtain the data from the interrupt and close communications. With labview I call first with the call library function node the function to initialize, later I call inside a while loop the wait function like this
    int waitAseconds (double seconds, short stop_waiting)
    if(flag==1 || stop_waiting == 1)
    flag = 1; //to detect the stop_waiting button
    printf("flagAA =1 stop waiting = %d time = %d\n", stop_waiting, clock());
    return flag;
    else
    SleepUS(seconds*1000000);
    //a++;
    printf("flag a= %d stop waiting = %d time = %d\n", flag, stop_waiting, clock());
    return flag;
     and when the program detects an interrupt, the function returns to labview the flag and stops the loop. Finally, it reads the values and close communications.
    In this way, the prompt appears but after running the application for 10 or 20 minutes and also i checked that there is a time gap between the executions in the loop.
    Thanks for your reply and your help,
    Jaime

  • I locked my iPad and I don't want to wait for the time limit.  How can I reset it?

    My brothers locked my iPad and I can't wait for the time limit to unlock it.  Is there a way to reset it?

    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
    If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
    You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • Waiting for network services...

    My ATV2 is online, it connected to my network, and all the movie thumbnails and such are displayed. It won't connect to the iTunes store, says that the Apple ID or password aren't recognized. Gets stuck on "Waiting for network services..." on Netflix. When attempting a restore downloads "the latest update" and looks like it's doing what it should but then displays "The update was not successful." Resets don't help, as it gets stuck on the "Waiting for network services..." Anyone having similar problems?

    I had the same problem. I just wanted to stream content from Netflix for starters, no bothering with iTunes on a PC, but the aTV2 would be stuck "Waiting for network services". Checking my settings and my router reflected a good WiFi connection, DHCP address assigned, etc. Internet radio worked fine, as did photo screen saver from FlickR.
    Attempting to log in to iTunes gave an incorrect password error -- a lamentably bad error since the password was correct.
    No joy on Netflix login.
    No joy on YouTube. Which is puzzling since port 80 is open. (I wonder if the aTV2 is calling home to Apple even if you are just using Netflix or YouTube.)
    All of this is a major annoyance as you have to keep entering your accounts and passwords from scratch over and over with the silly remote control and alphanumeric entry control.
    I suspected AppleTV was trying to connect to its services on the internet on some ports my router firewall was blocking, but there is no discoverable, comprehensive, or accurate Apple documentation to indicate what ports those are. I tried opening TCP:3689 with no improvement.
    As a last try, I opened every outbound port for the aTV2. (That is not going to be acceptable in the long term. We run a tight network security ship here.) It still didn't work. "Waiting for network services...". Hmph! I powered cycled the aTV2. After it rebooted, it works fine with Netflix and Youtube. No "Waiting..."
    It is lamentable that aTV2 setup and/or network test doesn't report what ports it is failing to connect on. Bad bad OOBE Apple! XBOX 360 for example gives much more useful network config assistance.

  • Do sth for 5 sec. or 5 min.? How does Java wait for some time ?

    How can I show a text in a label for 5 sec. and then make it disappear ?
    How can I make my app wait for some time ?
    What's the command ?
    thanx!

    The above is correct, but since painting is done in a separate thread, the likely result would be a blank space for 5 seconds, followed by a brief flash of text. You need to look at methods like invokeLater in SwingUtilities. You could also try forcing a paint(Graphics g) rather than a repaint before you wait.

  • Backup waits for Network volume forever

    Hi,
    I back-up my iTunes library to a network hard disk. The volume is mapped and I have no problems accessing it through Finder.
    However, most of the time, the backup fails with Backup just sitting there saying 'Waiting for volume BACKUPS' and the backup then never completes. The strange thing is, though, that sometimes, it works without a hitch.
    All my other scheduled backups to iDisk and/or CD/DVD work fine.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • HT4367 Anybody has a solution for network time and day set up for apple tv 3?I also have difficulty about my apple id and password with the apple tv. My password/apple id  works fine with my other gadgets. Thanks. Ugur Erkmen

    My problem started after the itunes update.i  reset the apple tv.Now I cannot sign to itunes and i cannot reset the network time and day.

    Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
    You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router.
    If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
    If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.
