Waiting for server

Why am I eternally waiting for the server when I'm trying to upload tiny text files to a web site with a perfectly good connection? This happens all the time. One minute I'm waiting until the connection times out and the next it's perfectly fast. What's the point in using Dreamweaver if it can't upload to a server? It's mostly useless otherwise. Transmit works ten times faster and is much more reliable and cheaper. Why can't Adobe simply buy Transmit and stick their code into Dreamweaver, since there is nobody at Adobe who actually knows how to program anything. They're all too busy trying to look cool while making long-winded videos.

Under Edit --> Preferences --> Site  I have experimented with FTP disconnect (idle)  and FTP time out high values low values - I am currently set to disconnect after 0 minutes idle and 60 second on the time out.
Many people have tested and Adobe should put a FTP log sniffer on the FTP process and look at ever command in the Upload to see where and why the FTP process hangs up.  Why does it fail some times and work other times.  It can fail on the 1st FTP after restating the PC, opening DW only and doing a post.  The FTP in the DW Log is insufficient and does not record the full process or if it does, the log is out of sequence with the actual events.
I ran a put on a small directory - the DW FTP log shows all files transferred. On the server, I could see that the files were all updated, yet DW was hung up with a message waiting on server and the lower right status line had an icon under Files and a message - Sometimes during a get when the local file is open in DW and is also selected as part of a multi-file download, DW pops up a dialog box warning of the loss of changes (the dialog box is behind the  background activities window and is not visible, unless one mouse's over the   taskbar icon that displays the DW editor window and background activities window, then mouse-over on the background activities window beings the hidden overwrite and lose changes to the forefront.  Even though it is visable one can not interact with the dialog box as its non-modal and all of DW is frozen waiting for user interaction with a hidden dialog box.
If you read the posts - the common problem is that FTP connects properly intermittently, results in long waits/timeouts.  FTP cant publish when the preceding FTP is hung-up. Forcing a cancel often frees up the blockage allowing FTP to post properly / maybe on the following attempt.  While this is part of the problem, its not the entire problem.  If one is a web developer working on multiple sites and makes updates often, this problem is very pronounced. Switching between websites is also a problem and causes DW to greyout and the system to respond that the Dreamweaver application is not responsive close or wait....   I wait and it comes back.  I am on an I7, Win7 Pro, All SSD drives - my PC smokes.  However, DW has issues related to bottlenecking or waiting for some internal process to respond before allowing FTP or a change from one local site to another.  - If the FTP is not locked up, I can open and close different sites as fast as I can click.  FTP upload site-A and then switch to site-B, DW hangs up, does not release Site-A (for a while) and the OS pops up a dialog that the application is not responding.
Instead of  guessing at problems, Adobe should create web space on Linux and Windows platforms, load a test site that is comparable to a real world site with linked CSS, included images, .... and then do some posting and analyze the problem first had. Adobe has the resources to test its code.  If Adobe needs access to a live case, I will provide access.  You have my profile information, call or email me and I will respond.

  • My FTP works but is very slow, hangs on 'waiting for server', fix???

    Hi guys
    My FTP connects but its constantly hanging and saying 'waiting for server', eventually it connects.
    My other ftp clients connect instantly, its just DW, sometimes my filezilla may halt but not as bad as DW does.
    I can use port 22 and its instant but reading this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/734356?tstart=0 will tell you why I can't use port 22.
    Not sure what to do here, ive tried changing loads of settings and I get the same thing, I dont want to have to use an external FTP client as that would slow my workfllow considerably.
    Also I think its a mac issue, if i try this in another building on windows 7 it connects instantly.
    If i set my timeout to something really high like 90 seconds it eventually connects.
    Anyone got any ideas??
    Thanks

    So using a separate FTP client is out of the question? I ask because my workflow uses a separate FTP app - it makes it much easier to troubleshoot FTP, server, and file permission issues. And it doesn't crash Dreamweaver. So again, are you sure you can't adjust your workflow to use a separate FTP application? (I use Transmit on the Mac and it has some wonderful features including a built-in Sync capability)
    How do you have Dreamweaver's FTP functionality set-up?
    Are you using Passive FTP?
    Are you using a reverse proxy server in your network?
    Have you tried the Mac Network Utility to ping your FTP server?
    What kind of ping times are you getting?
    Do you experience network latency issues frequently?
    Do you have Mac OS X's Firewall enabled and have you tried disabling it before an FTP session - does this effect anything?
    Have you tried unchecking Dreamweaver's Use FTP performance optimization? (Site Definition->Advanced->Remote Info->Server Compatibility)?
    Do you have any network engineers in your IT department? Can they look at their information and maybe see what might be happening on the network?

  • "waiting for server" A DW problem or internet?

    Hello again
    As per title, Im getting frustrated with my computer! Im finally getting a long awaited re-build of my site done, BUT Im getting alot of "waiting for server" the files are uploading (mostly) but very very slowly
    Where do I start for a fix? Is it internet? a 123-reg server prob? or a DW prob
    OR could it even be my computer?
    Ive set this day aside to get the site done, but im spending more time "googling" the problem than getting work done! Hence the direct question!

    There are a lot of variable here, it could be your connection speed. If you had dialup (remember that), you would get this all the time. Another thing to look at is from another post.
    I'm using DW CS3 on a Vista 64 system.
    I work in split screen -  Code and Design.
    Fairly "busy" pages with Google ads and other external banners in the sidebars, as well as other external javascript and CSS files.
    (Note the problem is not there when using only code view - DW becomes unresponsive only when a design view is open.)
    Tried the delete-cache-file fix and it didn't work.  (I noticed that the deleted cache file was NOT recreated on subsequent DW startups.)
    What worked for me was changing a setting found in the View menu.
    "Display External Files" was checked on.
    Turned if off and suddenly DW started working again
    (I noticed that after I did this, that deleted cache file was recreated.)
    The problem and solution are repeatable on my system.
    Turn that option on and open the "problem" page - DW freezes
    Restart DW, turn that option off and then open the "problem" page - DW runs.

  • FTP Problem: Waiting for server...

    I'm using Dreamweaver MX with the 6.1 patch applied. FTP
    appears to connect fine, but then when it starts looking for the
    remote folder it says, "waiting for server..." and eventually times
    out. While searching the internet for clues to this problem I see
    some people say to check off "Passive FTP"....but I don't have an
    option to check "Passive FTP". Does anyone have any ideas?

    You have that option in your Remote Site definition.

  • "Waiting for server-" errors in Contribute CS4

    Haven't updated my website in a while, so this is new for me, but starting yesterday I've gotten nothing but "Waiting for server..." errors every time I try to edit or publish a page. It takes about 10 attempts before the page finally downloads for edit or publishes. So a 2 minute task now takes about half an hour and it's driving me crazy. I'm using Mac OS X Lion (10.7.5).
    Has anyone else seen this behavior or know of a work-around?
    thanks!

    Yes, I am editing the files directly on the server. Until recently, I've been working this way for years.
    Dangerous.  You must be exceptionally confident.
    Are you working in CF?
    At any rate, I'm not experienced with using this configuration, nor do I know anyone that works this way.  Maybe someone else will pop in to help....

  • Cannot Connect To FTP Server (Waiting For Server)

    no matter what I do, I am unable to connect to my FTP server. In dreamweaver when I try and connect my site, it just keeps saying waiting for server. I have also just recently downloaded filezilla to see if it was dreamweaver that was messing up, and it turns out, it wasn't! because I am having the same problems on there too, when I try and connect to my site in filezilla, it just times out. I have disabled all my firewalls, played around with every setting possible (turning mt FTP from passive to active etc) whats going on? is the server playing up? someone help me please! I have had no problems like this before, it only began yesterday.

    Could it be a signal? Have a look here http://suite101.com/article/2012-end-of-the-world-predictions-by-nostradamus-a148071

  • Waiting For Server CS4 Virgin Media 1and1

    Hi
    Over the last few month I have been getting "Waiting For Server" error messages from Dreamweaver while working on my websites hosted on a  dedicated server with 1and1. My ISP is Virgin Media, whith whom Ihave a 50MB connection using a Virgin Media super hub.
    This problemn didn't exist just over a month ago.
    I have asked boith 1and1 and Virgin Media for help. Both deny there is a problem with the connection at either end and have suggested it is a Dreamweaver problem.
    I have completely uninstalled Dreamweaver on both my Laptop and Desktop PC's.
    I have tried the passive FTP and server compatibility settings within Dreamweaver, with no difference.
    I have also tried using a couple of external DNS services, with no difference.
    While I'm working, I can mayb eedit and save 5 files, then on mayb eth e6th I'll get the waiting for server message, which will then connect and save the file after about 30 seconds.
    Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions that I haven't tried yet?
    Many thanks

    Hi ,
    Let me give more information about that between my java class and server
    i have the bridge library which is also written in other than java.
    for that i used the njawin tool make as java wrapper class and accessing the java wrapper class(Bridge Server).
    the java wrapper class has post_request and poll_response methods so that why i 'm using only these methods in my java class to access the server.
    exactly I don't which technology is resided in Brdige server and actual Server bez that has been developed some one.
    poll_respnse means server has posted the response to client.

  • Azure Service Bus client: Best way to wait for server response?

    Hi,
    I have a web service that needs to send a request on Azure Service Bus and wait for the response. The web service must operate synchronous as seen from the web service client, that is:
    public Response WebServiceMethod(Request)
    senderQueueClient.Send(Request);
    // wait for response from receiverQueueClient
    // and return to web serviuce client
    return response;
    This can be solved using mutexes that are updated in "receiverClientQueue.OnMessage". But that is hard work and if I Google the matter, I find several options to deal with this - especially when using .NET 4.5.  And there are also some built-in
    stuff in the QueueClient.
    But how to do this best? Can someone point me in the right (easy) direction?
    Werner

    Hi,
    May I know what are you use queue to achieve? can you give us further information for a better help.

  • Ca'nt ftp longer (i.e. 4 minutes) flv or f4v files (get error message "waiting for server")  I

    when I ftp(i.e. "put" or "upload) short flv or f4v files using dreamweaver cs4 the files upload easily and quickly. However, when I try to ftp ("put" or "upload" ) longer (i.e. 4 minutes or longer) flv or f4v files it goes through the ftp process (seeing it in background activity screen) but at the end I always get a message "waiting on server" and the longer files don't get onto hosting server.  Is there a setting I need to change or other method I need to use).  I have worked with my hosting support tech person but we could not solve this problem.

    I'd suggest that you try using a dedicated FTP program like Filezilla or SmartFTP.
    http://filezilla-project.org/
    Those programs give you much more feedback on what's happening as you attempt to upload files, including error messages, etc.
    There is really no difference between uploading large files and small files, the process on the server is exactly the same..UNLESS there are limits to file size or video duration set by your host. So dispite the fact that you have worked with your host support, I'd still say that the problem is server side or being limited by your Internet service provider... unless the video files you are attempting to upload are corrupted.
    You didn't say if any portion of the larger video files were uploaded...and FTP program will show you whether or not ANY of the file was uploaded and at what point it stopped. You also didn't mention how large the video files where.... sort of where the "tipping point" is in file size (video duration of course is no measure of file size).
    Just to reassure you, the file size of a video file will have no bearing on your ability to FTP unless your host or ISP is limiting you in some way.
    I regularly Live stream events and also record them. An 8 hr event will produce roughly 1.5GB of compressed video. I use SmartFTP, with a reputable host and can upload the entire set of 1.5GB of video files (each about 50MB) over a 1000kbps upload connection without problem. Recently during a movie production project, we uploaded a number of single video file which each where over 1GB a piece.
    So there is really no problem uploading video files unless there are restriction on you account from the host or the ISP.
    Best wishes,

  • Jakarta HTTPClient , dont wont to wait for a response.

    Hi there.
    I wonder if I can do that , I want to send a post\get request to another server but I dont want to wait for a response from it.
    Actually, I want to continue with my program regardless to the response and dont want to be delayed while waiting.
    How can I do it?
    Hope I made myself clear, thanks.
    Shlomi

    spawn a Thread that will send the request. When it's time to process the response, check the Thread to see if any response was returned from the server.
    example
    public class MyThread extends Thread{
        private String response = null;
        private int status = 0;
        private boolean complete = false;
        public void run(){
             // TODO: et the response from the server
             // set the response and status and complete (synchronize all variable when doing this)
        public boolean isComplete(){
            return complete;
        public String getStatus(){ return status; }
        public String getResponse(){ return response; }
    public class Demo(){
        public static void main(String args[]){
            // do some work
            MyThread thread = new MyThread();
            thread.start();
            // do some more work (don't wait for server response
            // now it's time to get the response
            while (!thread.isComplete()){
                try{   Thread.sleep(1000); } // sleep for 1 second
                catch (Exception e){ }
            String response = thread.getResponse();

  • Installing SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition or wait for SP2?

    Hi everyone,
      I just received my copy of SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition I ordered.  As usual, before installing, I searched the web for any hint or other stuff on the subject.
      I first found that SP1 was already available.  Honestly I prefer installing using the last version available instead of upgrading.  I found the SP1 install package using the following web address:
    http://www.microsoft.com/fr-ca/download/details.aspx?id=35575
      Is this the right install package to use?
      Now, still reading everything I could find on that SP1, I found stories about major issues with SP1.
    Two examples I remember:
    http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/770630
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793634/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
    Two others (not specifically related to SP1):
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/a0da3372-ab3d-4af0-b4c4-0d47163e0e03/
    http://www.sqlperformance.com/2012/11/system-configuration/2012-cal-problems
      My question.  Should I wait for SP2?  If so, any target date when it should be available?
      If not, what would you recommend as the logic install sequence?  Should I look for any cumulative update(s)?  Any other "manual settings" I should consider?
      Finally, can someone guide me regarding what options I should choose while installing.  My main goal is to program/build C++, C# applications using VS2010 that will interface with SQL Server for data storage purposes (add/update/delete,
    batch update/delete) and reports.
    Hope to hear from someone.

      Which one I should choose?
      Also, some people reported having problems installing this update.
