Waiting for Sync Engine

There are many posts for people trying to sync their Palms -- I have a Palm Zire -- but I haven't gotten the solution to my problem...
I have a mac mini, and I've been trying to get my Palm synced... I've loaded the original software, the latest revision, and iSync Palm Conduit... I've had several problems, but I think I've now gone throught the whole process, including syncing with the Palm Desktop before installing iSync Palm Conduit...
but my log always shows "Timeout waiting for Sync Engine"...
What must I do to bring the Sync Engine into play?

Here I'll deal with my own question; eventually -- after I had gotten the thing to work -- I found a pretty good detailing of how to approach this business of syncing up a Palm with the address book, etc. I don't know if there is a link directly to this article in these discussions, so I will provide one. This is an article from Apple created in August, 2005 and modified (as of this writing) in December, 2005, and relating particularly to Tiger users.

It seems a fuller discussion than that provided in the Help documentation for iSync.

  • Waiting for sync to start bug?

I have a new iPod touch 32GB running iOS 6.1 and iTunes 11.0.1 running on my Dell Windows Vista Home Basic computer.
When I tried syncing my iPod today, iTunes started with a "Waiting for sync to start" message under the progress bar.
After about 2 minutes of  the same message and no progress, iTunes came up with a error message stating:
"The iPod "My iPod" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."
I have tried both syncing it over Wi-Fi and by cable.
    Any ideas?

    Fixed problem.
Frustrated, I turned my iPod off while connected to my computer via USB. After about a minute, I turned it back on for iTunes to detect it and start syncing. Surprisingly, it worked!  iTunes begun to back up and sync all the new podcasts I wanted to put on.

  • IPhone 4s no longer syncs in iTunes with iOS 5.1 - "Waiting for sync to start..."

Anyone else having this issue after the update from iOS 5.0.1 --> iOS 5.1
itunes sees the iPhone 4s, however syncing just hangs at the "Waiting for sync to start..."
    it eventually times out.
I tried via cable as well as over wifi

Since I attempted to sync this morning, I did not have a chance to troubleshoot more before work.
I will try the following later:
    1) Turn off iDevice, restart PC, re-sync
    2) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, re-sync
    3) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, backup to iOS 5.0.1 & re-sync
    4) Return iPhone to Sprint for another one.

  • IPod 4g "Waiting for sync to start" error

When trying to sync my ipod 4g to my itunes it gets stuck at Step 1, "Waiting for sync to start."  I tried restarting my ipod, and even restored it, but still it gets stuck at the same point.  Prior to this happening both my iTunes and iPod had been fully updated, and after the restore my iPod got re-updated.  All of the settings I had previously were saved, and were re-added after my restore, yet when I try to put my music and apps back onto my iPod it gets stuck.

    Is there any other fix?
I have the same problem with my iPhone 4S,
    I go to sync it, and it stays at "waiting for sync to start" it'll stay there for up to 15-20min then I'll get this message from iTunes;
"the iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start"
I tried closing iTunes reconnecting my phone.
I've tried the tricks in the lin that Photojackson posted above ^
    Nothing seems to work..
If I put my phone in DFU mode, I can get it to restore. It will restore just fine.
But once that's done, if I try to sync, it's back the the original "Waiting for sync to start" problem.
    It's driving me insane!
    ANY HELP??!?!?!?
    Thanks.

  • Error message "waiting for RT engine (LABVIEW01) to respond"

    Hello everyone
I've been getting an error when trying to interact with the PXI-1042Q the error reads  "waiting for RT engine (LABVIEW01) to respond" this stops the RT engine from working. any help would be appreciated.

    Hi
    I am using a PXI 1042Q chassis with a PXI 8196 controller
I have Labview 8.2 and Real Time 8
I am simply sampling one input at 2KHz for 20000 samples 3 times in a row.  The error seems random mostly it comes up straight away but can let me run 2 or 3 times without appearing.  It also disappears if you wait most of the time but the time it takes to disappear varies from a few seconds to 5+ minuets. Sometimes it doesn't disappear at all and you have to restart labview. I will try and post a screen shot up when I get a chance.
    Thanks

  • Always stay in "wait for sync" state for iCloud document

From yesterday, I can not sync any document via iCloud document service. The documents are in "wait for sync" state forever, both on Mac OS X and iOS. This problem appeared in the Preview app, the TextEdit app, and all three iWork applications. I've tested 2 mac with 2 different network. Same problem.
However, the iCal, Note and Reminder are still working.
Is there anyone who can figure out what the problem is?

  • How do I eliminate the "Waiting for sync to Start"

I have too many photos to keep in sync (at least initially) over WiFi, so I plug in my iPhone to keep those in sync.
However since IOS5, I just get an endless "Waiting for sync" message when the phone is plugged in.  I even turned it to airplane mode to eliminate WiFi as an option and it didn't help.
    Anybody have a clue?

I'm having the exact same problem with my 3GS, updating to iOS5.1 right now, hopefully this will fix it..

  • Fixed my wifi sync (was stalling on "waiting for sync to start")

I am posting this tip so others may be helped (i didn't see any forums addressing this issue specifically):
I was having issues with wifi sync.  I have an iphone 4s running 5.0.1 and a late 2011 model macbook pro running lion 10.7.2.  Itunes match is turned on on both devices.
I would have successful usb syncs with my iphone 4s, however wifi sync would stall at "waiting for sync to start".  I could initiate the sync on both my iphone and itunes, the problem was the stall.  My ipad synced over wifi fine, so the culprit must have been the iphone - which is where i started investigating.
1st attempt to fix - reset all network settings
    -did not fix the issue
2nd fix - reset all settings (note: i did not choose the erase and reset option)
-did finally fix the issue.  I was frustrated initially because i didn't think i would be setting the device back up, however you go through the motions of "restore from icloud or set up as new phone".  I restored from my previous night's backup on icloud (which I didn't think would work) but it did end up fixing the wifi sync issue.
So, if you are having similar troubles with itunes wifi sync, I suggest "reset all settings" and "restore from backup" before you go ahead and give up to "set up as new phone" (unless setting up the iphone as new is not an issue for you - then it doesn't matter)

Thank God I found your post!
I had noticed that whenever my iTunes was open and my iPhone on wifi it had started to act weird (appearing, disappearing, syncing, not syncing at all, taking ages to do so, stopping before it was over, etc). I had a look at my logs and noticed that I hadn't been able to wifi sync my iPhone since January 5th. Last night I decided to give it a try and started tinkering with iTunes and my iPhone 4. I restored from iCloud last but nothing worked. I was decided to unistall and reinstall iTunes until I read your post.
So I tried restoring network settings and it didn't work either.
I decided on resetting all settings, but I chose to restore from my latest backup on iTunes instead of the Cloud just in case. and voilà, it worked!
I don't really know what's going on with iTunes and iOS 5.0.1, but I've been having problems for some time.

  • My Ipod would not sync to the itunes at all, Help? Itunes shows waiting for sync to start. then get a message saying that it failed to start. I restored the ipod but the problem still occured.

I have already updated all my itunes software and everything else.
recently, when I connect my ipod itouch to my itunes, it shows waiting for sync to start.
Then a message saying that it failed to start.
I have restored my itouch but it still fails to sync.
Any suggestions how to resolve it?

  • My sync won't start. It stays on step 1. waiting for sync to start, then i receive a notification that it cant

My sync won't work, it can't start past step 1

I've been having the same problem. It would either get stuck at "Waiting for changes to be applied" or "Waiting for items to copy". My last successful sync was on 10/15. Tried a number of times either via wifi or direct connect.
Solved it in the following fashion:
Connected the phone to the computer via Lightning cable.
My phone was set to back-up to iCloud. Changed that setting to back up to the computer.
Unchecked the "Sync Music" option under the music tab.
    Hit apply.
After a wait - the back-up completed and all the music was removed from my phone.
Once it was done, re-checked "Sync Music" - it got past "Waiting for Changes to be Applied" at this point.

  • Itunes always gets stuck at "waiting for sync to start" and "preparing to update"

I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, that didn't help. I restored my ipod, that didnt help. I CANT SYNC AT ALL

I can't see the answer as to how you fixed this. Can  you please advise? It is extremely frustrating. It was working fine for me a few weeks ago. Everything is haywire since I downloaded all of the newest softwares.

  • I'm trying to sync more music onto my iPhone but it just says "Waiting for sync to start" and it won't go away or start the sync.

I've tried multiple things but I just cannot get the sync to start!

At some stage is is likely to have been connected to another computer's iTunes.  It is now linked to that computer's library and iPhones can only be associated to one library at a time.  Linking to a different one requires wiping the phone.
If you used the phone with another computer you owned you can transfer the iTunes library from that computer to this one and the phone will still be syncing with the same library it was before.
If all there is on the phone are items which can be backed up to iTunes and purchases which can be transferred you could do that, then wipe the phone and sync them back.
