Waiting for the disks to reappear with new 1 TB internal drive

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 17inch Late 2011 model with OS X installed 10.10.1
Ran for two years with a 256 GB ssd boot drive and a 750 GB toshiba secondary internal drive.
Last week I replaced the 256 GB sad with a 1 TB SAMSUNG ssd, cloned it and it works fine.
I am writing this email on said mac
This week I updated the secondary 750 GB drive with a 1 TB Seagate ST1000LM014-1EJ164.
The Seagate is recognised by Disk Utility and when I try to format it as a 1 partion Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it allows me to do so.
Then the message comes up that it is waiting for the drive to reappear message. I have waited over night, all day, tried all combinations of the format, etc with out luck and with the same error.
So I took an identical model drive that I installed on one of my windows notebooks that had been running for a week with out issues and it has given me the same problem.
Any comments appreciated !
Br, mitch

What happens when you connect that 1 TB Seagate externally via USB?
Ciao.

  • Waiting for the disks to reappear

Hi. Yesterday I was copying some files to my 32gb microSD drive during the night. Probably the computer went to sleep during the copying and now I can't use the drive. I tried to fix it in disk utility, but it says the drive has only 8,4mb and I can't use first aid, erase, nothing. I tried to partition it and it stucks at "Waiting for the disks to reappear". I tried terminal too - diskutil eraseDisk HFS+ newdisk disk1. Same. Waiting for the disks to reappear at 50%.
I even tried to format it on windows, but it says it can't format it too.
Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks a lot.
    (sorry for my bad english)

I have a 16GB usb stick. I have the exact problem as well. I cannot erase the drive.
I have been trying to erase/partition it in the hopes of erasing the files in contains because they have been corrupted

  • I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences.  If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section.  Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

  • HT1212 I found an iphone over one year ago. Its locked with a passcode. I kept waiting for the owner to call it. They never did. I went to ATT store today, they put a new sim card in it. but now itunes needs the passcode to reset it to factory settings.

I found an iphone over one year ago. Its locked with a passcode. I kept waiting for the owner to call it. They never did. I went to an AT&T store today, they put a new sim card in it. and told me to go home, log on to itunes, and restore the phone to "factory settings".But itunes says the phone is locked and it needs the passcode to reset it to factory settings.
Any workaround? Or, am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks so much.

Sounds like you may be the owner of a new phone!  If you don't need or want it and no one claims it you probably can sell it. Check eBay to see what the going rate is.
You are to be commended for at least trying to find the owner. Many wouldn't.

  • Am I worth to wait for the new macbooks with snow leopard?

As the day Apple released the new macbook pro 17. I was considering about If I need to wait for the all macbooks with the new operating system. Because I just heard that Snow leopard will come with a 64 bit. But now leopard just is with 32 bit. Some of people said new macbooks with snow leopard will be different from the old models(2008 late), even the macbook pro 17 2009. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.

I think if you need a new laptop you can take the plunge. If you have a look on the apple website on the SL page you will note the following text near the bottom:
+Benchmark based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test on a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and 2GB of RAM.+
That's the sort of specs for a machine that would run the OS well...I think the new 17" MB Pro is well within that ballpark.

  • I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • Disk Utility "waiting for the drive"

I'll be calling Applecare on this, but would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem:
I have a 2 month old MBP with the following model Super Drive:
HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N (according to System Profiler, it can write to all formats including -R, +R, DL). From another thread, I assume this is an LG?
I decided to test the drive - made a short 40 second movie and created a disk image. Upon opening Disk Utility and inserting a DVD (Verbatim +R), I got the following: "waiting for the drive" for 5 minutes. Ejected the disk and tried again - same result.
On the third try, it actually recognized the DVD, but only gave me the option to burn at 4x or 8x. I usually burn at the slowest speed available (2x), so I cancelled, ejected the disk and tried again. Fourth and fifth tries: no action, just "waiting for the drive".
I then tried to use Toast with the Super Drive; before inserting the disk, I set Toast to burn at 2x, but once I inserted the disk, Toast recognized it, but changed the available burn options to 4x or 8x.
Next I connected my external burner and got the options to burn at 2.4x, 4x, or 8x both in Disk Utility and Toast.
I then used the same disk on my iMac; tried both the Super Drive and my external burner (using both Disk Utility and Toast with both) and got the following burn options:
    iMac Super Drive/Disk Utility: 2.4x, 4x, 8x
    iMac/external burner/Toast: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x
There seem to be a couple of issues:
The "waiting for the drive" problem (what could possibly cause this?)
The "non-availability" of a slow burn speed of the Super Drive
And a third problem: this DVD drive is the slowest I've ever experienced; it took 50 seconds for the icon to appear on the desktop after inserting the DVD vs. 7 seconds on the iMac (this is the DVD I burned using Toast/exterbal burner, testing it on a TV and the iMac). It played fine on all three.
Has anyone encountered a similar "waiting for the drive" issue and/or the fact that this drive takes a very long time to recognize/read a DVD?
    Appreciate any input!

I spoke with a product specialist at Apple and it was agreed that we'd wait to see if the problem persisted; at that time, we'd talk about getting the drive replaced.

  • Waiting for the new Q10 to hit sprint but what will happen to my email?

I am currently waiting for the new Q10 to hit sprint.  but i am hearing that i will no longer be able to use my blackberry.net email with the new blackberry.  i currently use it as my primary email.  1st is it true they will no longer have blackberry email and if so what steps do i need to take in order to make a smooth transistion?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. yes, the blackberry.net email is no longer available... and quite honestly, in my opinion, this is a good thing. The blackberry.net email is not available anywhere except ON your BlackBerry, you cannot view it anywhere but on the handheld device itself and no backup otherwise. Get a free gmail, yahoo or Outlook.com account.
    2. Read this:  Article ID: KB33260 BlackBerry (hosted) email address forwarding for BlackBerry 10 OS
So, create and start using the other free email account now. When you finally transition over to BlackBerry10, you will have your solution in place for forwarding the blackberry.net email account.

  • Return new HH4 and wait for the HH5?

I am on an Infinity exchange but still waiting for my cabinet to be upgraded so stuck on ADSL for now. I've just received the HH4 I ordered but have just noticed there is a HH5 due before xmas. Would I be better off returning the unopened 4 and waiting for the 5? Does anyone know if the 5 will be more epensive? I think I am able to re-contract with BT as I've been with them for over a year now. I can't help but feel the separate modem of the 4 would be desireable come the time I do get on Infinity.
BT support tell me they can't gurantee the availability of the HH5 come launch as it is predominantly aimed at the new 300Mbit/s users.
    Thanks

there is currently no known release date for The HH5 as it is still a trial device and cannot until released be purchased

  • Should i buy macbook Pro now??? or wait for the new model in 2012..???

i want to buy MacBook Pro....so... should i wait for the new model or???

Your question is analogues to the same situation if you were contemplating the purchase of a new car.
If you need one and the current model satisfies your needs, purchase it.  If the current crop does not satisfy your needs you certainly can wait for a new model, but there is no guarantee that the new model will have features that will fulfill your expectations.
In short, your choices are dealing with the known vs unknown possibilities.
    Ciao.

  • Ok so I have an iPod touch 4 and I want to get an iPad but don't know if I should get the iPad 2 or wait for the new one. I am 14 years

    iPad 2

Well, it depends how long you can wait. We can't discuss rumors on here about release dates.
Look at what you actually need though and decide how soon you need something.
What you'll want to realize is that every year or two something new will come out.. so you have to learn to fight off the "I need the new one" bug if you want to be satisfied with your purchase.  At your age you probably won't get the opportunity to upgrade for a while, so you'll have to learn to live with your purchase decision longer.
If the iPad 2 in it's current state does everything you want, and you enjoy playing around on it a lot, I'd get it now and be happy.  If you feel like you want the newest of the new and are willing to wait (in line and for it to release) then you should wait for the next release.
The iPad 2s are finally becoming available after many months backlog, so keep in mind the next release will likely be the same way and think if you could really wait that long to get something.
Alternatively you could also consider getting a used iPad 1, then use that while waiting for the next version. The used one could then be resold for a fair amount once the new one comes out. Apple products tend to have a pretty good resale value, and the iPads are extraordinarily popular.

  • Had desktop Mac Pro set up with recent operating system there is a message that say setting up your Mac on the screen do I have to wait for the this process to complete or is there a way out of this screen?

I took all of my devices in to the apple store in ridge hill in Yonkers, the rep helped me set up the new operating system on all my
Devices from my phone to my desk top tower at home. I powered up my desk top this morning and a message came up saying that
The system did not recognize a program that was not compatible with the new operating system and it went right into "Setting up your Mac"
Mode. Do I have to wait for the setup or is there a way to by pass this process?
                            Dee Brown

I think maybe wait for a bit. Usually, on startup and installing the new OS, the assumption is that the user might not know too much, and that compatibility must be checked, which may be helpful, or not.  For now, I'd say ignore it, wait until it's done its thing, then update the program that's not compatible. If you can, Mr. Brown, find out which one isn't "making nice" with Mavericks. Hopefully it'll give you a name

  • Waiting for local disks???  problems with fans and starting up

Hello and please help me. My late 03 Mac isn't loading up. It gets past the grey bit and onto the loading part where everythings going fine until it stops on 'waitng for local disks' the fans then start to go nuts and I have to switch it off manually cos nothing is responding and I fear it may blow up. There's no disks in the drive and I've tried pressing the pmu button, disconnecting the wires and rebooting it from the original disk (when I do the latter it simply loads back up and stops at, yep you guessed it...waiting for local disks)
Any suggestions before I take it into an apple store?

Hi! Try restarting with the mouse button down to eject the disc. After you get the disc out if it still won't boot hold the option key down until the disk comes up and you can select the correct one to start from. All else fails boot from the install disc ("c" key down at startup with the disc inserted) and run the repair disk function of disk utility as per THIS. Tom

  • Ipod touch wont turn on i tried restoring it but every time i do it just says its waiting for the ipod to respond. meanwhile my ipod is no longer a black screen but the apple logo with a loading bar underneath that after leaving for 8 hours hasnt moved.

    Try:
    - Another cable
    - Another USB port
    - Reboot the computer
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
