Wake Desktop Comes Up Then goes to Sleep Again

50% of the time when I open my MacBook Pro( late 2008 2.4) the desktop appears "briefly" and then screen goes black signifying sleep mode. I have to then tap on space bar to get it to wake up again. This only happens on startup, never, goes to sleep when machine is active.
This situation did not occur with Leopard OS, only since Snow Leopard has been installed.
I reset PRAM and VNRAM as per:
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Reseting PRAM and VNRAM made no difference. I have Apple Care if no one here has a solution I'll give Apple a call.

HI,
Try resetting the SMC.

And try deleting this file.
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac Pro.

  • Microwaved Iphone 4s, it turned off, now the apple sign comes on, then goes back off again. help!

My brother microwaved my iphone 4 for 2-3 seconds. It turned off and now the apple sign comes on, then disappears. Its been like this for 2 days, ive tried charging and reseting it. Can an apple employee fix it or can i do something? HELP

Why in the world did your brother microwave your iPhone?
Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $199 USD.

I'm using a Rocketfish USB to Lightning cable for powering my IPAD2.  But when I plug it in the battery icon beeps and comes on then goes off...then goes on...then goes...all beeping every time.  Its as if its being unplugged and plugged in over and over.  It won't stop...and its not charging....just beeping.  I've check connections.  Any ideas?

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • G5 startsup one in five times and then goes to sleep

Hi - I have late 2004 dual G5. Recently it completely boots up and shortly after, puts itself to sleep even while I am working on it. Then it sometimes does not turn at all and just has a black screen.
I have done everything I can think of. Reset the PMU numerous times, done an openfirmware boot - but after reset it doesn't turn back on. Tried to boot from Install disk, doesn't work. Tried to reset PRAM - doesn't work. I have reseated the RAM and now it soemtimes turns on with half a balck screen and the rest white and then nothing happens.
I have unplugged it over night, held the power button down 15 seconds unplugged, etc...nothing works. It does not chime and if I remember correctly has been working without the chime for awhile.
If I leave it unplugged long enough, it eventually turns on and then I can look in the console log (exit on exit code:6) but I cannot run the disk utility or do much of anything else.
My G5 is like an old friend and I really don't want to lose her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks - I don't think it is the battery as I did replace it recently. I have tried to start up in openfirmware and never get past "cataloging file". I have tried Safe mode and can't get past the grey screen and I have tried C on startp - nothing. And finally, I have tried holding down option on startup and get to the right screen but it freezes when it gets to the watch. Guess I better give up and bring it to the shop and see if it is worth fixing.
It still turns on completely and goes through the whole start up process - it is just that it then goes into sleep mode. I can wake it 2 or 3 times and then I only get a black screen. I have to unplug the power from the back of the computer and let it sit at least 15 minutes for it to go through the startup process again.

I was on my computer and monitor perfectly fine. Then I moved my desk un-plugged all of my equipment and moves that too.. I plugged my monitor in and my computer in just like it was 5 minutes prior. Now when I try to turn my computer on it works fine but when I turn my monitor on it says no connection then goes into sleep mode any tips?

UPDATE: I tried a different monitor and 2 more different cords and neither worked.. It's a computer problem

  • MDD boots and then goes to sleep immediately

have a dual gig MDD and suddenly the thing just started going to sleep or powering down right after booting up.
i've taken everything out and unplugged eveything to bring it back to it's intial state; i've zapped pram; i've pulled the battery; nothing seems to help.
with the hardware cd as the boot, i get the following
    Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 00034870 %SRR1: 00003030
    USB Setup Error: 40140000 400001
    bad Bus info CRC-16
    Apple PowerMac3,6 4.4.8f2 BootROM built on 09/30/02 at 10:24:31
which made me think it might be one of the RAM sticks. so i've puleld them, tried with just one and still nothing, swapped sticks, no go. with the cd in, when it goes to sleep, upon waking i get:
    Decrementer exception at %SRR0: 056106dc %SRR1: 00003030
at first i thought it might be the boor drive but since booting from the CD still causes the problem, my guess is the MoBo.
if anyone can help me out, maybe something i've missed so i dont have to spend $500 on a new MoBo, i would be very grateful

An overheating proc can definitely make the thing go to sleep. But I don't know what would make the fan power stop working. I believe that's controlled by the PMU, but you've reset that.
I've seen some pretty strange PMU-related behavior, so nothing would really surprise me. Just today, I found that my firewire ports weren't working - they'd power peripherals, but I couldn't get either of my FW drives to show on the desktop. I booted to two different internal drives and had the same problem. I reset the PRAM, NVRAM, and the PMU and no improvement. Finally, I unplugged the PRAM battery, hit the PMU reset button, and let it sit an hour before plugging it all in again and viola - firewire worked!
It might seem redundant, but if I were in your shoes, I'd unplug that PRAM battery again, hit the reset button, leave it out for a couple of hours, and then plug it all in again to be absolutely sure. Also, be sure never to press the PMU button twice between starts.

    Try this First...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • Monitor reports no signal then goes to sleep.

I posted this problem 5 months ago and many, many other people have reported this since 2011. After 4 years, still no solution from HP. Not even a clue of a solution.
So HP, are you reading this?
My monitors goes to sleep for no appearent reason. Windows is running fine, I can RDP to the computer but my monitors are useless. This problem emerged in the first week of purchase and disappeared for some time. And today it is back again. If I reboot (kill) my system about 5 times the signals come back on, but my monitor 1 has a resolution of 640x480 and can not be changed.
This is obviously a hardware fault, a design fault of some kind. Why isn't there a recall for ALL HP monitors. It seems that all HP desktop systems with DVI connection to HP monitors have THE SAME ISSUE.
For me it is clear now that HP is not able to fix this or does not care about it. This was my first HP system, and my last. Ever.

    Scott007,
First thing I would do is changed the monitor settings so that it NEVER sleeps or turns off.  Next thing is to access the display menu and reset to factory defaults. The last consideration would be to adjust your opinion.  I have never had these problems with any of my HP branded computer or monitor systems. I have also used DVI to VGA adapters, as my 24/7 monitors are lowly VGA units. I manually turn them OFF.
I re-read your previous commentary (2014).  Did you read the entire post and comments?   There was a reference to turning off hybrid sleep. I encourage you to try this remedy.

  • Mac Pro with Wake on Demand enabled wakes up but never goes to sleep again

    Hey,
i was using Wake on Lan since OS 10.5 Leopard for waking my Mac up with a Magic Packet. Since 10.6 this brilliant feature was removed and replaced by "wake on demand" wich lets your computer wake up every 2 hours for a few seconds (very ultra annoying if your mac is in the same room as your bed). This is at least how it SHOULD work.. of course it doesn't...
Everytime i enable Wake on Demand my Mac Pro will wake up but will NOT go to sleep a few seconds later (as it is intended).

    HI,
    Try resetting the SMC.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806
    And try deleting this file.
    com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac Pro.

  • IBOOK G4  Powers on then goes to sleep after loading, any help?

I have a 12 inch IBook g4 purchased less than a year ago. On power up, screen loads, Pop-up says date set prior to March 1, 2001, icons and wallpaper load and then book goes to sleep. All in a matter of 3-5 seconds. Help me please

I too am having problems with my ibook falling to sleep or quitting. It also sometimes loses the backlight of the display. I took it to an apple authorized dealer and they eliminated the possibility of the cause being the cord, the batter, the airport card, or the ram. I also get the message of it having the wrong time set in the clock before March 2000. The time is not set wrong.
I am also having an issue with the powercord. When pluged in so I can recharge it doesn't always sho that it recharges. I have to rearrange the cord to get it to register that it is charging. This ibook is only 18 months old and giving me unbeleivable problems. My imac is 8 years old and still running...slow but running. what gives? I make my livng on this little ibook so I really need answers and the dealer is not very helpful. Please help I'm desparate!

  • Officejet 6500 wakes up and don't go to sleep again

I have an Officejet 6500 E710a-f on my office, and it's connected by LAN to the router.
My PC is connected by LAN to the router.
My laptop is connected by WIRELESS to the router.
During day time, everything works like a charm. Sometimes the printer goes to sleep, wakes up when printing or receiving faxes, etc.
At the end of the day, I turn off PC and laptop and go home. The router stays ON.
When I arrive in the morning, the printer is awake...
No faxes received, no pcs turned on...
Already flashed last firmware, can't think of anything else.
    Any ideas?

You have an option to turn off  sleep mode.
Press set up(wrench icon) on printer front panel, go to preferences (5) ,then go to energy save mode to turn it off.
You will have to manually turn off the printer if not in use to conserve energy.

  • Every time my IMAC is unused for a period, then goes to sleep mode, it loses it's wireless connection and when I wake it up, it DOES NOT automatically reconnect. I have to go to systme preferences network and request that it reconnect.

My iMac is set up wireless.  Everytime it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity.  Then, when I wake it up,  I must go to System preferences,  Network,  and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network.   It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own.  My iPad 2 and kindle can do this,  why not my iMac?

This appears to be a known issue, there are a couple of things both of you should do, first file a bug report in www.apple.com/feedback.
The next thing is more a work around than a fix. Instead of putting your computer to sleep just put the display to sleep. You will find this in System Preferences - Energy Saver. Set the computer sleep to Never and then set the display sleep to what ever time you prefer.
