Wake-On-LAN anyone with success
I am trying to get wake-on-lan working. So far, it has been a bust. Maybe I am trying something that can't be done. I put my computer to sleep by pushing the power-off button (this set to sleep). From my phone, I send the "magic packet" from www.dslreports.com/wakeup to my public IP and my iMac's MAC address. The computer does not wakeup. Should this work?
I have a Verizon FIOS Actiontec Router. I have setup port forwarding to forward UDP port 9 to my broadcast address (192.168.1.255). On OSX, I have Wake for Ethernet network administrator access set on. If this all should work, am I missing anything?
Still no luck. Anyone?

Wake On Lan problem with MS-6566
Hello,
Does MS-6566 supports Wake on Lan function?? In the manual, in Mainboard specifications appears "LAN/Moden wake up function". However, it doesn't work. My systems is as follow:
- MS-6566 with BIOS revision 1.4
- P4 Intel Celeron 1,7 Ghz.
- 512 MB DDR266
- HDD 80GB
In BIOS section (AMI BIOS) "Power Managament Setup" only appears section for Modem wake-up.
I don't need WOL cable, because my NIC is PCI 2.2 compliant, is 3com 3C905-TX-M. It works fine in other mainboards like ASrock, ie.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Jose ManuelI had the similar problem with Intel 10/100 + Managed NIC - PCI 2.2
This card has its own EPROM with configuration. I had to install the "Driver + utils" pack into W2K and I went into configuration utilities and ENABLE the WOL and MAGIC PACKET support.

Wake on Lan works with Ethernet, not over Wi-Fi.
Hello, after several months of tests I came to this conclusion.
Wake on Lan only works with Ethernet for my iMac. Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi works for a few hours, but if the iMac is asleep for 6 hours or so, it becomes unavailable... On the other hand, with Ethernet it's always available even if it sleeps for an entire week.
My iMac isn't that old (mi-2011), so I guess it should handle Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi. Is it a software issue?
- I've got a MacBook Pro since Snow Leopard 10.6 and now with Mountain Lion it handles Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi without problem.
- I've got my iMac since Lion. Does the iMac only handle Wake on Lan with Ethernet and works differently compared to the MacBook Pro?
I prefer to use Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi because for the tests I've placed my iMac in the living room in order to plug it to the Time Capsule, but the right place for my iMac is in my bedroom.
I tried to change the MTU size as it is described here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/02/fix-os-x-mountain-lion-wireless-connection-proble ms/
Note that "Wake on Lan" is checked in my System Preferences, I don't think it's my router's fault, because my Apple TV, AirPort Express, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and my Printer don't disconnect even when they're asleep (I'm talking about my printer and Apple TV in that case).loïcfernandezcastrillon wrote:
I'm connected with the WiFi of my Time Capsule (bridge mode). I have this configuration since Snow Leopard, and no troubles...
I understand that, but if your router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station then it introduces an element of uncertainty. Apple has implemented many changes related to wireless networking recently.
You are complicating matters by changing networkoversleep:
networkoversleep - this setting affects how OS X networking presents shared network services during system sleep. This setting is not used by all platforms; changing its value is unsupported.
Solving problems like this requires that you simplify your network environment and eliminate its unknowns. Using third party routers and making unsupported changes runs counter to simplification.
The iMac stays connected to the Time Capsule about 6 hours during sleep. Then it dissapears...
The iMac wakes periodically (every few hours) to inform your router of its network presence for Wake on LAN demands. Try changing your router's DHCP lease period to something longer than a few hours. For a home environment, a few days is more appropriate. This may not solve the problem, but it is better than making unsupported changes to your system. -
4K HDMI GTX 980 SLI x99s Plus Bootup anyone with success?
so I'm not sure if the culprit is the gtx 980 card, the driver, windows 8.1, the x99s plus mother, the bios, the Samsung HU6950 4K monitor or all of the above.
If I boot with the hdmi monitor pluged in I think it's posting but no signal. If I boot without it plugged just a 24 inch dell monitor all is good. If it falls asleep shortly it's usually okay, if falls asleep longer it will recognize the dell monitor but fails to initialize the 4k TV. Unless I unplug it and plug it back in.
I'm not the only one having this issue but haven't spotted a solution yet. I've since returned the 4k TV because it was super annoying. Also it wouldn't do SLI or even drive the monitors off both graphics cards. I'd like to get a smaller 4k monitor with Displayport or dvi input but I don't want to have the same issue.
Anyone using a 4k monitor successfully with a similar set up?Quote from: Boyerizm on 19-October-14, 06:35:44
Anyone using a 4k monitor successfully with a similar set up?
Yes, but with DisplayPort only.
HDMI is not recommended for UHD. -
MOVED: Wake On LAN issue with Z68A-GD80-G3
This topic has been moved to Linux/Unix.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=157515.0That's a bit worrying. Why would Intel suggest an 18Gb cache is it would wear out so quickly?
Not that I have to be concerned the %^&%^& thing wont work! -

Wake On Lan for Pavilion 500-046
I have been using Wake On Lan on my other computers to wake up computers on my network that have been shut down using the shutdown command from Windows 7. This is a very useful feature for me and I would like to get it working on my HP Pavilion Desk Top computer with Qualcomm AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controler. The Bios on the 500-046 has this option, and I have set it to ENABLE. I am running Windows 8.1 update on the Pavilion. I have, also, looked at other possible power settings in the device manager but I'm not having any luck getting this to work. There is absolutly no response from the Pavilion when a Wake On Lan signal is sent. A similar question was posted by me a couple of days ago with no responses. Maybe and Expert could give it a whirl. Thanks for any help.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello fredkoch3,
I have read your post on how you are having problems wake on LAN issues with your desktop computer, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!
To begin, I recommend following this thread on "Wake on LAN" (WOL) behavior in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. This should help explain how (WOL) is used for Windows 8.1 in comparison to Windows 7.
To find out if your system can be set to Wake on Lan I suggest running a "powercfg" command on your computer. This will check the power management features available. To do this, please follow the proceeding steps below:
Press and hold the Windows Key button and the R button simultaneously
Type in the word cmd in the box provided
In the Command Prompt window, please type in the command "powercfg -availablesleepstates"
Please compare the available sleep states using the System Power States document to see if (WOL) is available.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Wake on lan (wol), uswsusp and 8139too
hello,
i want to get wake-on-lan working with uswsusp (or pm-utils, both don't work). when i halt the computer (like described here: http://gentoo-wiki.com/Wake_on_lan#Manual_method) and sent a magic packet with "wol", the computer starts, but when i suspend through "s2disk" (or pm-hibernate or "echo disk > /sys/power/state") the network card settings get somehow erased so it does not receive the magic packet.
what i've done so far:
1.) ethtool -s eth0 wol g
2.) in my /etc/modprobe.conf i have: "install 8139too /sbin/modprobe -i 8139too; ethtool -s eth0 wol g"
3.) echo -n PCI1 > /proc/acpi/wakeup # (to get: "PCI1 S4 enabled")
4.) echo -n shutdown > /sys/power/disk # (default is platform)
for shutting down the computer the first and third entry and then simply running "halt" did the trick, but for hibernating it simply doesn't wnat to work. i've tried every combination of things above. nada!
i've also tried this https://lists.linux-foundation.org/pipe … 10472.html:
Rmmod 8139 driver before suspend and use shutdown, not platform, mode
that also didn't work (no driver, no interface).
there are thousands of howtos out there, but most of them concentrate on shutting down not hibernating the computer.
wol is a really nice feature. i often use ssh, my computer is always running when i'm not at home. and i want to use hibernate.
using wol would save a lot of power.
my network card:
Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc RTL8139 Ethernet (rev 10)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc DFE-528TX 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
though lshwd says:

ps: and no, i don't want to use tuxonice.
Last edited by DonVla (2008-01-31 13:28:11)i think the problem is that when hibernating the system is powered off by:
poweroff -d -f -h -i
with flags:
-d Don't write the wtmp record. The -n flag implies -d
-f Force halt or reboot, don't call shutdown(8)
-i Shut down all network interfaces just before halt or reboot
-h Put all harddrives on the system in standby mode just before halt or poweroff
i want to get rid of the -i flag. i don't know how to change this. there is no such configure option for uswsusp.
where can i change this for pm-utils if possible.
oh, as i see poweroff is a symlink to halt.
now i'm totally confused...

EDIT:
gentoo has this
RC_DOWN_INTERFACE="no"
entry which, as a friend of mine using gentoo told me, also works with hibernate.
is there a similar setting for arch?

SG300 with 802.1x and wake on lan
Hi,
is there a way to support wake on lan on SG300 with 802.1x ports and dynamic vlan?
thanks,
maart2012Hi,
Depends on the authentication. If you have mac or login authentication there is no traffic allowed neither direction before successful authentication. However you may use Guest VLAN concept for WOL packets. With web portal authentication some traffic is allowed but as far I as know it is only arp, bootp so again maybe Guest vlan concept would be the solution.

[solved] Cannot activate wake on lan with systemd
I have activated successfully wake on lan with systemd, following these guidelines :
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wol#With_systemd
My [email protected] is:
[Unit]
Description=Wake-on-LAN for %i
Requires=network.target
After=network.target
[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/bin/ethtool -s %i wol g
Type=oneshot
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
It worked nicely until I recently had to reinstall my server (following a disk replacement). Since then systemd fails to activate wake on lan.
Output from systemctl status wol@enp0s4 :
● [email protected] - Wake-on-LAN for enp0s4
Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/[email protected]; enabled)
Active: inactive (dead) since ven. 2014-07-25 11:21:28 CEST; 23min ago
Process: 181 ExecStart=/usr/bin/ethtool -s %i wol g (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Main PID: 181 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Output from ethtool enp0s4|grep "Wake" :
Supports Wake-on: pg
Wake-on: d
If I explicitly start the service with systemctl start wol@enp0s4, then ethtool enp0s4|grep "Wake" shows:
Supports Wake-on: pg
Wake-on: g
My guess is that the service does not start at the correct timing at boot.
I have also tried wol-systemd package from the AUR without success.

Wake on lan with Iphone.
Hi, I installed a wake on lan feature on my MBP from apples homepage and likewise I installed the iWOL app on my iphone. However I cannot get it to work. At home I use Airport express connected wirelessly to the MBP and likewise with the Iphone. Do I have to configure the airport express or something? Or does anyone have a step by step guide on how to set it up?
Thank you very muchits right , router has to be connected to Ethernet port.
ary you trying to wake your Mac on your local network ( meaning when you are conected to your router through wi fi directly ?) that is not to difficult to achieve . little tricky bit is if you want to wake your Mac
from remote location from your iphone , well literality from anywhere . it can be done but not all routers will allow you to do that . but it can be done with right router . plus there's quite a bit needs to be changed in correct router's configuration. but good thing is if you really want that to happen there is a possibility .
for my needs its essential . i use iwol and SleepOver apps. both of them do same thing but first i got iwol
and only could wake my MP locally . then i tried SleepOver app and i achieved both Local Wake up and over internet too . again both can achieve same things but i wouldn't have done it without good support and recomendations of SleepOver's developer .
so if you get it working either of them IWOL or SleepOver is a fantastic combination with Jaadu VNC and File Magnet apps . you can wake your Mac from say Paris in London then use Jaadu VNC app to browse your remote Mac as if you were sitting in front of you Mac at home the open other end of File Magnet from within Jaadu VNC which is installed on your mac and drag and drop file you want to have on your iphone . then you open File Magnet on your iphone and there they are! file you wanted .

Has anyone had success with Apple replacing their iPhone 4 [out-of-warranty] concerning the stuck power button?
For $149 they will do an out-of-warranty replacement.

Can I use Wake-On-LAN with P1606dn Printer?
I have a P1606dn laser printer which is remotely located and the power is remotely switched.
When it is first powered up, the button on the front has to be pressed to cajole the printer into life . It lights up green and we are good to go. After this, even if it has dropped into power saving mode, sending a print commnad wakes it up and network printing works fine.
However, I want to do away with the walk to press the button when it is first powered up. I've tried using a Wake-On-LAN command to the IP and MAC addess of the printer, but nothing happens.
I realise I could leave it permananetly powered but don't want to do this because there are other devices on the same supply that need to be turned off at night.
How can I get it to wake up remotely?
many thanks.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Whenever power is first applied to the P1606dn, that has been in a no-power state, the unit is turned Off. The unit's power light may be on, but the unit itself is off. Whenever you press the button, then the unit goes through the power up and obtains the IP address to function.
Hope this helps.

Has anyone with the ECPD Profile error been able to order successfully yet?
If the error is in fact due to the employee discount Verizon dropped the ball here big time. I never was able to get past the ECPD error when upgrading my device tried for90minutes. I did the new customer and it went through without a hitch but i would have to change my phone number....not good!! Decided to give it one last shot on Apple Store App and was able to have the iPhone 6 Plus silver 16GB reserved...got a reservation number since they were having issues connecting to verizon. So happy!! Been month to month over 2 years waiting on the 6!!! If you don't care to change your number go as a new customer or use apple store app. Good luck and good night!
Verizon this is no way to treat your existing customers!!
