Wake ON LAN via WRV200 Router

This feature exists on an XFXboard.  Their tech support says there is a way to connect to the board.  Ping will not work as there is no IP address when off.  Linksys tech is suggesting that one must disable the software firewall and other things that are questionble to me.  In search of guidance

  • How access Office LAN via Cisco Router & Switches HELP!!

    Hello everyone!
For starters I am no Cisco guru but at least find my way around a few things here and there.
I work as the IT dude for a company with two branches at different geolocations.
Our local network infrastructure at both HQ and branch offices comprise a Cisco 1941 Router and SF 300 24P Managed switches which hooks up our servers, workstations and VoIP phones.
The dedicated internet [DI] is connected via a Hughes radio link which belongs to the telco and on a different IP class and connects to interface 0/0 of Cisco 1941. Interface 0/1 is then connected to one of the SF 300 24P managed switches on another IP class for LAN  [192.168.1/24]
    I have three questions.
    1. How do I access for example the File Server on the Corporate LAN from home?
    2. How do I get workstations at branch offices authenticate with Active Directory Server at the HQ?
    3. How do I get to get VoIP phones in branch offices hooked up to HQ VoIP PBX?
    Thank you very much.

  • Cannot print to printer on ethernet lan via wireless router

    Hi,
Apple Macbook connected via Airport running class A network 10.0.0.X, which is connected to a Netgear 4 port router running class C network 192.168.0.X. Also on this class C network is a LAN network printer and a Windows PC. The Netgear router is connected to the internet and the Apple Macbook can connect to the internet and can ping the printer connected to the Netgear router, but when it sends a print job to this printer, the response is "Printer is busy. Will Retry in 30 seconds"
The windows PC can print to the network printer (both connected to the same netgear router) just fine.
    the Macbook is running 10.4.11.
Please help.. and thanks in advance!

  • Wake On LAN in EA2700 router not *quite* working

    Hello,
I have an EA2700 router and have setup WOL. The setup works well for only about 2 hours or so, i.e., if I put my home computer to sleep it can awaken remotely from the internet BUT only for a short 2-3 hours. After that, the router seems to time out and clear its ARP cache (my theory) so WOL stops working.   Before cisco blames my network card, note that WOL worked fine for me with an older Linksys router. It never used to timed out until I got this EA2700.
So, the question is, can the EA2700 be prevented from clearing its internal table somehow (I did reserve my computer's IP address)?... And if not, which router can you suggest that has a PROVEN record of supporting WOL properly?
    Thanks for any advice!

    Hi pepper_mint,
I do have the latest firmware ver 1.1.39.145204. If this is not really the latest version, please let me know.
Please note that I've searched the internet extensively and have yet to run into someone who has successfully used WOL with this router. What's more, CISCO seems to actively put obstacles to prevent this feature.  For example, there are 2 methods the router can pass the packets: via the broadcast ip 255 and via a targeted port forward. Nowdays, the router will not allow you to put X.X.X.255 anymore. There were browser hacks that bypassed this prevention, well, no more. They seem to have caught on and the hack is no longer feasable. So the only path left is to reserve an IP and forward the packets to it, which is fine, but now the router seems to "forget" the IP of a computer that has been put to sleep. It "forgets" the IP after a couple of hours.
I don't know if you work for CISCO, if you do, please remind them that WOL is becoming more common as more and more people work remotely. I always use TeamViewer for remote access and now they support this feature in their software products.
    Thanks for your advice!

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

  • Is it possible to "wake on lan" my MacBook Air (Lion) via a DDWRT router?

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to wake my MacBook Air via my router Buffalo DDWRT, but using WOL features my MacBook Air doesn't wake up.
Do you have any suggestion? Should it work?
    Many thanks!!!
    Stefano

Once you are 'inside' your LAN via VPN you should have no trouble waking up sleeping PPC or Intel desktop Macs. You will not be able to power them on from a shutdown/powered-off state as this capability is not available in those machines. WOL from a power-off state is only available on LOM-enabled XServes.
    This command line tool:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/wake-on-lan/
works to power on Intel XServes and sleeping desktop PPC or Intel Macs. To install it you will need the XCode Developer Tools installed, then the standard configure/make/make install will get it installed. The command is very simple:
    wol -i 123.45.67.89 00:11:22:33:44:55
where '123.45.67.89' is the IP number of the machine you wish to wake and '00:11:22:33:44:55' is its MAC address. Send the command three or four times and the machine will come out of sleep or power-on. This CLI utility works very well in a situation where you only have 'ssh' access to sites.

  • Viewing lan sites hosted on macbook pro (apache) via wifi router

Hi, thanks for stopping by. Hope you can help.
I've my macbook pro (Lion) set up to serve several websites locally. In the httpd-vhosts.config I've got the addresses set up:
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    etc.,
    ServerAlias site.localhostname.lan
    </VirtualHost>
I have a netbook (Windows 7) which via my router (wifi) I can view these sites such as... http://site.localhostname.lan
My wifi only iPad (iOS 5.1.1) also connected to the router however tells me the server cannot be found after inputting the .lan address ...
Any pointers would be gratefully received, thank you.

Just an update. I'm doing my best to resolve this myself.
localhostname.lan works (takes my iPad to the Sites folder on the macbook).
So this is where I'm at, wondering why the ServerAlias (and DocumentRoot) in the config file (mentioned above) is being ignored. Don't know if I'm on a wild goose chase with this.
I found another thread in here which seemed to focus on MAMP (something I've never used, always used the native Apache server).
I'll keep searching and hoping someone will be able to help out a bit, thank you.

  • Wake on lan for macbook pro residing behind a linksys router in clamshell

    Hi:
I have a macbook pro residing behind a router at home
with its lid closed connected to an external display
and USB keyboard and mouse. When I use it at home, I
use the keyboard and mouse to wake it up (I believe
this is called clamshell mode) and use the external display.
I would like to access the machine from my office.
I have set up the "wake from lan" option in enery saver
and have forwarded port 9 (UDP) to the macbook pro.
But the machine does not wake up and I cannot ssh
into it from the outside (I have forwarded port 22 to it as well).
Is this a problem with operating it with the lid closed
that "wake on lan" is not working ?
How do I set this up ?
    Thanks!

It has been fixed by latest SMC firmware update. Works fine on Mountain Lion.

  • Using verizon wifi fios router - need to wake on lan mountain lion

There is a lot of discussion about this issue, but other than using apple routers, I haven't seen a way to get this to work: I want to wake up my local macmini w/ mountain lion from my other macs.  I have the settings set up to do it on the macs, but it is not getting through the network.  Probably has to do with a setting in the router, but I need help to know how to do that.  Thanks.
    Boyd

If it's useful, here's a write-up on wake on LAN and related topics from a while back, with links to various other documents, tools and mechanisms.
Various of Apple's wireless devices provide what's known as a sleep proxy for the target system.  That is, the wireless devices mimic "being" the target device, and will wake the target device when there's activity determined to be necessary.
For the wake-on-LAN stuff, all of the intermediate routers have to support the traffic, and they almost certainly won't...  As an alternative, get a firewall with a VPN server, VPN to that, and have at.
If you're particularly inclined, there are various fairly affordable network-connected power strips, or (more expensive) network-connected battery-backed power supplies; remote-managed less-interruptable power supplies.  These can be used for controlling power, once you're connected to the VPN server on your LAN.

  • Wake on LAN with Actiontech MI424wr Router

I posted this by mistake in the DSL forum, sorry.
. I've set up Wake on LAN for the purpose of powering up a media server that handles all my video and picture files. I have it working fine within my LAN but I've run into a problem when I use it from outside, meaning the internet or my cellular network. The Actiontech MI424WR router does not let me port forward the broadcast address so I worked around this issue by creating a static entry in the ARP table that passes the "Magic packet" to the broadcast MAC of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. See http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16041 for the details.
This technique works fine but unfortunately, the ARP entry will not survive a router reboot or power down. From what information I've been able to find, it may be possible to create a startup script in the router that will re-create the ARP entry upon bootup. I've contacted Actiontech but they said I needed to speak to Verizon support. I contacted Verizon support and they gave me a number for the Verizon Expert Care Team. I'm kinda smelling a runaround so I figured I'd post the question here before I made any more calls.
If you read that link I posted, theres an interesting alternative using a second router and changing that router's MAC address to all "F"s but not many routers will allow you to do that, at least not the two I have. Anyway, if someone knows how to create a startup script or has an alternate solution, I'd be most interested in seeing it. Thanks in advance.

By the way if you are still interested here is my solution...
Just change the IP, username and password.  Save this file to filename.vbs and Schedule a trigger (Daily Task, on PC startup) to run this script and you should be good to go
    set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.run"telnet 192.168.1.1"
    WScript.Sleep 1500  WshShell.SendKeys"username"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"password"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"system shell"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"arp -s 192.168.1.254 FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"exit"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"exit"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500

  • TimeMachine to G4 via Network - Wake on LAN , Standby, Sleep

    Hello,
I want to backup to a G4 running 10.4.11, wich is capable of Wake on LAN.
How may I make Time Machine automatically wake up the G4? Right now I am using
    http://www.readpixel.com/wakeonlan/index.html
    manually.
    Bye
    Jason

    All,
I have a g4 MDD that I have set up to Wake on LAN. I
have another computer (ibook) setup to send the Wake
on LAN magic packet. This works fine and the MDD
awakens from sleep after sending the packet.
However, in about 10 or 15 seconds the MDD goes back
    to sleep again. Why??
    Thanks,
    -BL
    More background info:
Rather than sending the WOL packet over the network, I walked up to the sleeping MDD and hit the spacebar. It awoke, then went back to sleep about 15-30 seconds later. I hit the spacebar a second time and then started to use the computer (Logged in, checked a few sites in Safari, etc) and the computer remained awake.
So I guess my more directed question is: why does the MDD go back to sleep when there is no input/usage?
    Thanks again,
    -BL

  • Can't Wake-On-LAN up iBook from Sleep Options

    Seasons Greetings!
I can't get my 1.25gHz eMac to wake my 900mHz G3 iBook from sleep to
auto backup overnight via the Wake-On-LAN feature using an Ethernet
connection and Wake 550. I set the Administrator Wake tab in the
Energy Panel and looked up my iBook's Machine Address in the Network
Utility to type into the Machine Address box in Wake 550 but no go. I
even put in the IP and my iBook still sleeps. Any hints?
    Thanks!
    JimWG

I'm starting to wnder if the PB has a Wake-On-LAN compatible ethernet card!?
Or if maybe you have something like a Cat-3 cable that doesn't have as many lines as a Cat-5e/Cat-6 cable?
After hours of experimentation WOL, 550, & Nudge all work reliably for waking if you have a WOL Ethernet card, somewhere above a Cat-2 cable, even if the originator is Airport only to an Ethernet Router that the others connect to.
Can't find much info as to which Macs have WOL capable cards except that up to the original iMac they didn't. I'm thinking maybe a G3 Powerbook doesn't since it's on the list of needing a Crossover cable to connect to another on that list...

  • Wake on Lan doesn't work anymore

    Hello all,
I have 3 computers (1 iMac and 2 Mac Mini) connected via Wifi or Ethernet to my router.
One Mac Mini (a Late 2006 under Snow Leopard) is used as a "NAS" with 2 USB external hard drives.
"Wake for network access" is checked in Energy Saver Preference pane.
Everything has worked fine for months : the "NAS" Mac Mini woke up everytime I choose it in the Finder.
But, since an Apple TV update, Wake on LAN doesn't work anymore, and that's the case for my 3 computers.
And I don't know exactly which update has broken the Bonjour Sleep Proxy.
I've tried to restore my Apple TV, without success...
Do you have any idea ?
    Thanks for your help
    Best regards

Yes, anonymous filtering was unchecked and I had singularly forwarded ports 7 and 9 to the static IP address set up in the DHCP, trying UDP, TCP, then both.  (I was desperate!).  Then I forwarded both ports doing the same thing, UDP, TCP, both.  I know it uses UDP, but again, I was desperate.  I turned off the firewalls completely and again, as a last resort, I put the computer to be woke up in the DMZ to no avail.  It's the firmware (= I'm unimpressed with my first Cisco purchase).

  • Any Wake On LAN Software for Leopard?

Ok, I have a PC upstairs, and an iMac downstairs
I have got VNC viewer working on my Mac now to be able to access my PC upstairs.
However I would like to be able to remotely switch it on after I have shut it down, I know my network card has to support it, but on my iMac what software do I need, and where can I get it form (free preferably!)
SO I need some WOl (wake on LAN) software for my iMac, anyone help
ps any tips on doing this gratefully accepted, including VNC and remote PC'sing ;0)
    cheers

I cannot make it work, it seems the WOL packets are not transmitted to the remote computer. I have a G5 (2004). Is it compatible?
how can I check the remote computer is indeed receiving the packet?
I'm on the same network, connected to a switch (so no router involved). I can connect via file sharing, I can ping, but not too sure where the WOL packet gets losts.
    thanks!

  • 975x Platinum PowerUp - Wake on LAN problem...

    Hi,
for TV digital cable recording with my DboxII receiver (Neutrino Linux) I need Wake-on-Lan. It work flawlessly with my old ASUS A7N266-C: PC as streaming server, woken up by the pre-programmed DBox by a "Magic Packet" containing the MAC-adress of the LAN-card. (So I don't have to program any timers on the PC, just have to be sure that it is in standby or hibernation mode.)
The new setup is the same as the old, I've only changed the PC's MAC-Adress in the DBox-setup. The DBox is connected via router.
What I've done: I activated PME in the Intel LAN properties, and activated "resume by directed packets and Magic Packet". I allowed the device to wake up WindowsXP and set the BIOS to resume by PCI and PCI-E events (seems as if PCI-E is the necessary setting for the onboard LAN).
What happens, is, that it doesn't work with Magic Packets. It almost works with this "directed packets" setting - but the problem is, that the PC only stays in hibernation mode for around 15 seconds - even if the Dbox is switched off. Maybe the router does something to wake the LAN card? DHCP is already off...
Has anyone further knowledge about WOL with this board? The next thing I'll try is, if it works better with my previous Realtek PCI card. But it would be a pity to waste a PCI slot for that....
Power-on-LAN is impossible with this board, I guess?
    Martin
P.S. I'm still stuck to BIOS 7.1, because I need the Intel Raid AND the JMicron IDE - is there any beta BIOS, that I could try?

Quote from: FrobinRobin on 27-November-06, 23:25:47
I've had WOL work on various BIOSes. I know 100% it works with 7.1A.
You need to select the first boot device as LAN
I tested my WOL application firstly from the shell prompt from another PC and when it worked I set up a web page to run the WOL app - it works great but if i remember correctly I had to change some firewall settings(?) to get it working from the shell. If you cannot get it to work maybe there is a compatibilty issue with the mobo & dbox WOL packet ?
    (i have dbox - they're gr8  )
I use WOL 1.1 by Greg Whittmeyer (PM me if you want a copy)
Every magic packet is the same - the mac addy 3 times, so it shouldn't matter how it's being generated.  If you want to test your waking app, plug another computer into the same network cable as the 975 system and send it's magic packet.
Another thing to be sure of is to make sure your power is off, magic packets will sometimes not wake a sleeping computer  - from S1, S3, or S9
