Wake-To-Music Zen X

Under the time date section, there is a Wake-to-music option (alarm clock), however, it doesn't seem to work. It seems that it should work like an alarm clock (set a time, set the alarm / bell to activate) and it should go off at that time playing music. I notice that my Zen Xtra starts at the prescribed time but doesn't play any music (I do have music in the selected music list. Am I missing a step?

I love the iPhone. It's amazing! I was just so surprised when I went to set an alarm to wake up (after a night of playing with the iPhone way too long) and couldn't select a playlist like on my iPod. The iPhone IS an iPod for crying out loud...

You can go to sleep with music but can not set it to wake to music. Contacted Ihome support and they say a fireware update is needed from Apple. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

Can't be done now, but a nice idea. You can submit a feature request to Apple.

  • Sleep/Wake and Music Playing???

Even though the instructions say that when the iPod goes to sleep the music will still play, mine doesn't. Please help.

Thank you. I didn't realize that my headphones might not have been plugged in all the way because I was actually hearing music for those 2 minutes before the backlight went off. I am hesitant to push hard on anything because I don't want to break things but it worked. Thanks again.

  • A Petition to ask Creative to update the firmware of the Zen Touch to Include EAX capabiliti

<SPAN>Hi. I have been looking for a new hard dri've MP3 player and am thinking about getting the Zen Touch. • Random, unknown music starts playing

OK, I know this is gonna sound weird, but here's what just happened. I was sitting here with a friend talking. My MBP screensaver starts up after 15 minutes. The screensaver is Arabesque. After about another 10 minutes or so (not sure exactly) the screen goes black and music starts playing. I have no idea what music it was, but it appeared to be some sort of long drum beat loop. It's not anything that is in my iTunes Library. Very odd, this has never happened before on any of my Macs. I touch the trackpad to come out of screen saver. I look at the dock, no open apps at all, just a dot by the Finder. Music still playing. I open iTunes and play a song. Song plays, but same music plays as well. Looked at all the options in System Prefs, but nothing out of the ordinary. Command-option-escape, only the finder is open. I sleep the MBP, music stops. As soon as I wake it, music starts back up. Finally, I had to restart to get rid of it.
ANY IDEA of what the heck happened?

Who has had access to your computer? It sounds like an "easter egg" to me. The big question is "did the music start again the next time your screensaver was active for 10 Min?" Or was it just a one time thing? Look in your startup items list for any suspicious items.

  • Want a Zen Microphoto but have questi

. Is the 8gig model Flash memory based or does it have a HDD? I would prefer flash.
    2. Will it play wma lossless encoded tracks?
How is the sound qualuty compared to an iPod 5G? A good friend gave me a black 5G and I do enjoy it, but I'm in the process of ditching Apple products. lately I've come to the conclusion that buying music via the ITMS or any other online music store is a complete waste of money given all the lousy DRM restrictions. Apple in particular annoys me because all the music I bought is locked to using Apple hardware unless I burn to CD and re-rip to another format which causes degradation in audio quality. Another thing that irks me about Apple is they charge this outrageous premium for outdated technology. No FM Tuner, pathetic battery life and the use of delicate, scratch-prone material that an entire industry has been created to remedy lead me to dislike Apple very much. Lets not forget idiotic design flaws like forcing the customer to send the iPod in for battery replacment which they are all too happy to do for alot of $$$.
    Thanks in advance

i have a zen microphoto and let me just say: Ditching ipod.... IS A SMART MOVE !!
Zen microphoto is, of course, in color and has a battery simular to a cell phone battery, so you can handle it, charge it, and replace it whenever you want, or buy extras for long play (i have 2 batteries so when one dies on a long trip, i can switch the second one in seconds)
do you use itunes? GREAT!!! i like my music loud, so i turn the equalizer on itunes all the way up. and to add to that, zen microphoto has its own equalizer that you can set by yourself and choose how high the sound bars go!! with both itune's and zen's equalizer up, you can have a crystal-clear boom of music.
zen has great sound. better than ipods if you use after market earphones because stock ones suck on both ipod and zen (they sound the same with stock phones). zen can go way louder than ipods and be clearer.
the 8GB you ask? as a graduate of M. I. T, im gonna tell you right now that it is not possible for any type of player to have over 5GB and have flash memory. this is for reasons being that if you had a gigantic chip like that, it would be extreemly unstable and fragile. thats why hard dri'ves are made. a hard dri've for mp3 players allows them to hold tremendously more memory and still be very tough and small, since it uses a spining magnet that will virtually last forever. flash dri'ves can loose maximum memory after use and degrade faster than anything over time like "polaroid pictures"?
I would highly suggest a microphoto over any ipod because of the toughness of the model (it is highly scratch-proof and fingerprint proof, unlike ipods). it wont break umless you are extreem with it (wetting it alot, droping it constantly, ect.) its basicly a better player for the same price as an ipod nano. plus, an ipod nano does not even have replacable batteries, nor does it have a radio like the microphoto. to add to that, microphotos are beautiful and have a bigger screen and better quality zoom-in capable pictures and auto focus.
this device is the perfect mp3 player if you want a mini sized, high memory player with the great support of creative guarding your back and worth way more than your charged for an innovation like this. had mine for 3 months now.
PS: if your smart, you wont update the firmware, as this is gambling with your players usability or any mp3 player for that matter. im superb on the one it came with.

  • How to find out why my MBP will always try to shut down after 1 hour

    Dear all,
this is a question too complicated for me to answer; I have previously tried to solve this problem in a usenet forum (comp.sys.mac.system) - but we didn't get it solved there, and I finally gave up on it. However, it still persists, and it is so annoying that I want to try another approach on it this time using the Apple Discussions Forum.
The problem is as follows: my relatively new (bought in december '09) MacBook Pro 13" (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM) has a problem: always when I leave it untouched for one hour, something within the system would try to make the computer shut down (system halt). Please note right that this seems NOT to be a hardware-related issue (al least not simply a bad mother-board or sth. similar - there are a lot of threads about MacBooks that seem to shut down immediately, like fainting - this is not the case here). Instead, the system behaves like anytime when a user-requested shut down is invoked - for example, the running applications would check if any changes should be saved, and ask questions. The only thing is: I did not request a system shut down, and even more: I do not WANT the system to shut down. In fact, this whole problem is extremely annoying, since it constantly messes up my open documents (e.g. the TextMate workspace I usually set up, or similar things), forcing me to reestablish my workspace at least once a day. Over time, this can be very annoying for a computer that's used for work!!
During the course of my earlier discussions in the forum, we tried to find out what makes the computer go down - looking through the system log files etc. - but to no avail: we couldn't trace back the event that has caused the system to invoke the shut down procedure. However, it seems that this issue is related to the Mac operating system, and not the hardware - and this is why I ask this question here (and not in the MacBook Pro section). It may be that we simply didn't look in the right place - or not with the right tools - and I hope that there may be some people here with some new ideas how to trace the reason for this procedure. Everything I can tell now with some certainty (and I couldn't do it before in the usenet forum) is that the shutdown seems to be invoked about one hour after the system has been left untouched by a user (no key strokes, no mouse movements); I know this because I use my Mac for a wake up call now - and, since I sometimes need more than an hour for that, I can tell that this problem causes iTunes to quit one hour after the Mac has booted (which makes my wake-up music to switch off... and some of the running applications with no changes to save).
It would be very important for me to solve and remove this annoying problem, and I think that this really shouldn't happen! Needless to say, I haven't set the energy savings settings such that the system would shut down after one hour (in fact, I have set the system to always stay on when attached to a power supply); still, the problem prevails.
Does anyone of You specialists have a good clue or smart suggestion where (or probably how) else to look to find out what causes the shutdown? Thanks a lot for taking the time and considering this annoying problem!
    Best,
    Björn

Yes - it is a bit frightening... Had other Macs before this MacBook (Pro), and never experienced such a problem. Don't know - of course I look into the Preference settings from time to time, and maybe I have changed that setting on the other computers... it never occurred to me...
What an annoyance such a simple decision to make the auto-shutdown after one hour a default can be! Probably, Apple reconsiders :-D I'd rather prefer an auto-lock of the account (instead of an auto-log off)... but I believe it has been expressed often enough that, in this particular case, the - pardon me - Windows-solution (to offer a simple lock of the account, the Windows-L-key combination, IIRC) is much more practical... to copy that behaviour under Mac OS X, You'd have to go through lengths...
Anyway! Pondind, thank You very much!!! Solved a kind of embarassing, but huge problem of mine!
    Best,
    Björn

  • Older accessories work w/ iphone 3GS, then stop working?

So about a month ago the office moved from samsung smartphones to the iPhone 3Gs. sweet.
When I first got it, I did some testing with the existing ipod accessories I have - a sony radio/alarm clock, and the headunit adapter I have for my mazda.
The alarm clock worked fine with the exception of the "airplane mode warning" and the car adapter worked similarly but wouldn't charge. Fine with me, I'll use the classic on long trips anyway.
But about a week and a half ago, I noticed that the alarm clock had stopped working normally. It would charge but not play music, using the clock's buzzer instead of playing my wake up music.
Then today I plugged the iphone into the car for the first time in a couple weeks, and it started playing music when plugged in, but only through the phone's tinny internal speakers. Nothing I could do would route it through the car audio system.
What could cause the iphone to suddenly stop feeding line-out to accessories? Anybody seen this before?
Apologies if this has bee posted before, I did scan through a few pages of posts before posting.
    Thanks.
P.S. Make itunes 9 work with XPx64. Please.

Have you tried to restore it?

  • Need a Palm Pre alarm clock solution

I want to use my Palm Pre as an alarm clock.  I have the Pandora app downloaded and saw an app in the AppCatalog called 'Wake to Music' that integrates with Pandora (Why doesn't the built in alarm?).  If I buy blue tooth speakers (any recommendations?), will there be anyway to configure the Pre so that the speakers ONLY work when on the touchstone?  I don't want the speakers to engage when I'm on the phone and in range of the bluetooth.  Also, will I be able to configure it so that ONLY music comes through the speakers?  That is, I don't want the phone to ring through the speakers.

I saw this and was wondering if you had figured this out yet? Music can be added to your ringtone folder, and used as the alarm.  That's how I do it....
    Take care.

  • Compatibility with iHome

A few days ago I did the latest softward update, and recently my ipod is telling me that it is incompatible with my iHome.  Any suggestions?

I own two iHomes, older models, which I used with a really old iPod (the one with four buttons above the click wheel!). Recently, I bought an iPod Touch, and it works fine with my iHome clock radios. It plugs into the dock connector on top, and I can wake to music from my iPod Touch just fine. Every once in a while, if I plug it in and then hit the "iPod" button, I have to unplug the iPod Touch and then plug it in again, but it always works.
The only drawback with the iHome is that you cannot adjust the volume of the wake up alarm. Whether you wake to the radio or the alarm or the iPod it always comes on pretty loud. I wish I could turn it town a little, as it does not take that much to wake me. But if I turn on the iPod to "sleep" mode I can set the volume wherever I want, do to sleep to music, and it shuts off fine. In the morning, it wakes me to wherever the iPod left off, just at the default louder volume setting.
Hope this helps! I love having an iHome in the bedroom, and another in the kitchen. I use them both all the time.
    - Craig.

  • Help with iPod alarm and playlist, please

    Hello friendly iPod people...
I am the happy owner of a brand new 20GB iPod with color display. I use the iPod for different things, and one of them is to listen to music as I go to bed (with a set of powered speakers). Since I now have a new version of the iPod (I am replacing a 2G unit), I would like to use the alarm setting to wake to music as well. I tried it this morning, and it seems that the iPod will not wake from sleep to play music. The alarm/playlist will start if the iPod has not gone to sleep, but to me that seems like a silly way for the alarm to function.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this one of the limitations of the alarm function?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Michael

    Great News!
I've figured out the reason it wasn't working and was able to "wake to music" this morning:
Yes, you need to run "Sleep Timer" as the shut-down method in order for the Alarm to awaken with a playlist, AND the playlist needs to be at least as long as the sleep timer setting--many of mine were slightly less than 60 minutes, and I was using the 60 minute timer. Last night I tried a playlist that was much longer than 60 minutes for sure, ran the sleep timer and set the alarm to music at 6 am. Imagine my surprise when my music began playing softly playing, just as planned, at 6 am!!!!
So, thanks for all your supportive comments, and I hope this helps anyone else who was working on this. I now know to pay more attention to the length of my playlists.
    Cheers,
    Michael
