Wake up and phone is completely dead

Ok two nights in a row now that I have woken up to a completely dead iPhone. I upgraded to 4.1 and the multiple tasking *****. I have wifi off, location services off and all that jazz and it is still dead. I even completely log out of skype so that is not running and it's dead. I go to bed with a fully charged battery. Thanks apple I was super later for work today. How can we fix this

There are no "Genius" appointments available at my "local" Apple store so I called Apple support. Apart from them getting my warranty date wrong, they just told me the usual reset, restore, set up phone as new etc. No word of a lie, I have spent over one whole day of my life on all this nonsense.
Apple will NEVER admit that their software has caused problems. I love my iPod and, for a year, I loved my iPhone.....Now I just can't wait until my contract is up when I will be buying an Android phone. I will not be buying Apple ever again!
Apple is only interested in taking more money from you. They provide a thinly veiled support service, but in truth will not spend the time and money on getting to the root of the real problems. iOS4 is not fully compatible with the 3GS.
Cue fanbois!

  • Woke up and my phone was completely dead. Won't turn on, no charging, nothing at all.  Thought maybe some kind of water damage because it was on my windowsill, but neither of the water detectors have turned a color.  Help?

No that’s probably what I’ll do. I'm thinking the guys at the apple store can only do basic technical support since most of them are sales people that don't know how to physically repair phones. It seems kinda silly that, as fine as a product the iPhone is, when something like this happens they just tell you to replace the entire device without doing any proper diagnostic. If it was any other phone you could simply take it to a cell phone repair shop and they'll usually fix it. It’s almost as though Apple assumes their products will never fail so that when they do, the only solution is to replace the entire device at a cost higher then it would be if it was just a simple fix. So hopefully the local cell repair shop can do something instead of having to replace the entire phone. I'll accept the fact if I have to replace it after taking it to a few places and having some real technicians look at it, instead of a 5 minute trial and error diagnostic done by a sales associate at the apple store being quick to tell me that the phone is useless and has to be replace for several hundreds of dollars.

  • Received call that went to voicemail, phone alerted voicemail and then went completely dead, will not power up, what can i do?

my I phone 5 went completely dead after receiving an incoming call that went to voicemail and alerted, i cannot power back up, what can I do?

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. If you are sure the battery still had a charge, this should work. If you think the battery was low, then plug it in and let it charge for at least 20 minutes and then try the reset.

  • HT1476 My phone went completely dead. It has been charging for 2 hours and is still completely dead.

Will I need a new battery? The phone is 3 months old.

Try a reset: Press and hold both Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, try to restore your iPad:

  • My phone is completly dead and wont respond...

My Iphone went dead and now wont even acknowledge being plugged in or wont charge at all. The only thing happens is it shows a black screen with a plug and a lightening bolt. Does anyone know if there is something i can do?

If it won't charge from a known good charger and usb plug there isn't anything you can do, other than perhaps gently brusing the dock connector at the bottom of the phone with a clean dry toothbrush in order to clean it.  Make an appointment with the Genius bar at a nearby Apple store to have it looked at.

  • Can you delete a phone lock through icloud? my phone is completely dead and i need my photos off it

my phone has died and I need my photos, because it has a phone lock it wont let me sync to iTunes. Is there a way around this?

Syncing with iTunes doesn't transfer photos from your phone to your computer, it only transfers photos from your computer to your phone.  This explains how to import photos: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer.

  • HT2101 My phone is completely dead - what has happened?

My iphone 4S has gone dead - what has happened?

Try to press at the same time the "home button" and the "sleep wake button". After a few seconds it will reboot your iPhone. If not, your iPhone probably has a hard- software problem., Attempt to connect it to Itunes as a recovery mode restore. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • HT1414 my ipad is 5 weeks old and yesterday i was using it and it quite. i have tryed two different chargers and it is completely dead. no sound or image. can i get this running again?

new ipad 5 weeks old. ipad 2    no display no sounds.  tryed two chargers overnight    blank screen

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • I updated my 4s to ios7 and the phone is now completly dead. I tried to restore it with the new itunes but it won't restore. If you can't get the download be glad! Anyone have any ideas other than going out and buying a new Samsung phone?

I updated my 4s to ios7 and the phone is now completly dead. I tried to restore it with the new itunes but it won't restore. If you can't get the download be glad! Anyone have any ideas other than going out and buying a new Samsung phone? I don't really need a paper weight.

No not jailbroken. After the update which took about 45 minutes. The phone went black. Dead. Wouldn't restart. Using the new itunes I tried to restore it. It went through the motions; the white Apple and progress bar appeared on the iphone screen. Then I got a message "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes." Then the phone went completly dead again. I Repeated the process and got the same results. Is there another way to restore the phone if it's dead, besides itunes?

  • When my iphone 4s goes completely dead how long should it take to recognize the charger and begin to charge?

when my iphone 4s goes completely dead how long should it take to recongize the charger and begin to charge?

How do you know it is not charging? Do you see anything on the screen at all? Have you tried a reset? Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons until you see the Apple logo and then release. If the phone was completly dead, it may take up to 15 seconds or more for the Apple logo to appear.

It really would have been helpful if you had said that to begin with. Take the phone to an Apple Store and have them look at it.

  • HT1937 I have an iphone 4 from verizon, the contract is up and the phone and bill is completely paid off. Why won't they unlock my phone so I can use a different carrier? Can they do that?

    Hi,
I have an iphone 4 from verizon, the bill and phone is completely payed off, I called and asked them to unlock the phone so I can go with another carrier, and they told me they dont support it and would not do it, and told me I would have to go to a third party.  What does that mean and can they do that?

You iPhone will not work on T-Mobile since T-Mobile uses GSM.
