Wake up issues

So I need some help regarding my Mac and it's driving me mad! Its a bit tempermental and it isnt always the same occurance each time, but basically symptons are (somtimes it occurs, sometimes not with each one!):
Turning on It will freeze on white screen (no logo)
upon waking up from sleep it will display black screen with mouse and notifications. no login UI or wallpaper. Can SOMETIMES login if i just type password (as if login screen is still there). mouse dissapears once typing begins
Sometimes when the previous event occurs (^) and i put computer to sleep it will then do the opposite and display just the wallpaper with no input from mouse, keyboard
I have tried removing all devices (webcam, USB mouse etc) and turning on computer but as its tempermental, it may work anyway!
I have also reinstalled a new OS X over the top from internet recovery
Also reformated HDD and restored OS X.
Also reset SMC and NVRAM.
I can not afford to start fresh, i have a 110GB iTunes Library with 210 iOS apps and photos too important to me to be forgotten.
If there is anything I can do otherthan to pay like £80 to hand over my computer to Genius ?? (dont want those peeps looking at my computer)

I do have a backup; i use time machine. and I have re-installed the OS before using internet recovery. (removes OS and redownloads and installs over the internet) and as for third party, il just list the internet plug-ins and 3rd party pref panes.

  • Monitor wake up issues

I am having inconsistent monitor wake up issues.  If the CPU is on and past the bios boot and THEN I turn on the monitor all works properly.  However, the monitor will NOT come out of power save / hibernation mode.  I have tried different monitors with the same behavior and am on my second ATI 9600 Pro 128MB graphic card.  I have installed the latest Catalyst drivers (4.0) and flashed the MoBo bios (amibos 3.31a) and still no change in the effect.  I am suspect that it is some bios setting but can't figure out what the issues are.  As a side note, I have had twice in about 40 boots an error:  "Dram timing is too tightly so reload timing".  The DRAM timing configuration is enabled by SPD at 3-3-3-8-8 (unchangeable in current mode).
    Suggestions greatly appreciated!

    MSI 865PE Neo2-PLS

    Windows XP Pro SP1.1a

You can set your DDR timings manually by disabling SPD in BIOS. Before you do that, be aware of the exact description of your memory sticks and try to find out in Kingston Website about possible timing values.
About the problems with the Monitor, in BIOS you should have a menu 'Power Management Features'. If you have
    ACPI Standby State                         choose  'Auto'
Re-Call VGA BIOS at S3 resuming     choose 'Disabled'
    Power Management/APM                   choose ' Enabled'
    Suspend Time Out                                       'Disabled'
On this menu if you have a Submenu 'Set Monitor Events', get in, and if you have something like
    FDC/LPT/COM Ports          choose 'Monitor'
    Primary Master IDE                      'Monitor'
    Primary Slave                              'Ignore'
    Secondary Master IDE                  'Monitor'

Changing to the SSD wouldn't void the warranty. Here's something you might want to try. Put the SSD in an external enclosure and see if it runs fine from there. If it does, you probably have a bad SATA cable which is what connects the drive to the motherboard.

  • Magic Trackpad / iMac wake up issue.

    Hello,
Does anyone know of a fix for the following Magic Trackpad / iMac wake up issue please?
Basically hooked up a Magic Trackpad that was bought several months ago now and found that it works great however the 'click' functionality does not work whilst waking up my iMac. The cursor moves as it should however it's not possible to click onto either a registered account nor guest account in order to enter a password to wake-up from screensaver.
To get around this I've had to pair-up my Magic Mouse again which is not ideal.
A fix for this would be appreciated.
    OS installed: OSX 10.7.5.
    Thank you.

Just my .02, but why do you want a screen save? I was told a long time ago by some engineers not to have your screen saver running. Just non essential. Me, I have none of our computers doing so. They time out and sleep in between, so the hard drives and logic boards power down, if not shut down completely.
As for you situation, I had the same problem a while back and believed it was one or more of the apps. in the back ground. Could even be the UPS. Either re load your OS to check any corruption. And/or, check your login list of apps. and finder to see what is running without your knowledge or in the background, then closing out of open programs one by one prior to the screen saver engaging and see if it changes things.

  • Wake Up Issues, Screen Glitches

Having wake-up issues with iMac. Seems like the screensaver is causing problems. Either I get a black screen, or some graphic glitches appear throughout screen. Or the dock will sometimes lock up. Thanks.

    Hello cdurs0
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
ScreenSaver's use lots of ram and processor resources, if your iMac only has the stock 1 or 2GB of ram you would do better to set the Screen Saver to Never, the display to sleep after 10 or 15 minutes and or use an Active Screen Corner to Sleep Display.
    see > http://www.tiptrickmod.com/mac/mac-osx-active-corners/
To check ram go to: About this Mac > More Info > Memory or open your Activity Monitor and check to see how much Free ram you have during normal usage.
    see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342
The other alternative to getting the most out of your iMac is to upgrade it to the maximum amount of ram.
    see > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
Lastly, how full is your Hard Drive? That could also be a problem if there is not enough room for the OS X to work around in.

  • T500 wake up issues

I'm about ready to kill this thing.  For some reason that I have yet to discover, my t500 will periodically fail to come to life when I open it.  I open it, and it just sits there - the screen does not come on, and no combination of keystrokes seems to wake it up. Every time, I have to hold down the power button and restart it to get it to do anything.
A connected issue seems to be that it does not hibernate, if I am using the right term, when I close it down. I'll notice that when I get home from work, for instance, it has been running in my bag, is warm and the fan has been running to cool it off. The little moon LED is off when I get it out, but when I open the cover, nothing.
Any ideas? I'm on the move with this thing all the time- it happens a couple times a day, sometimes.

This can happen if windows gets stuck in the process of sleeping and or hibernating.  However, I have not noticed this happening since installing the latest power manager and bios updates,  I would start there.  Also, if you are leaving any devices like a wireless mouse dongle attached (which I do) if the mouse is left on it can wake it up continually.  This also would be true if you have bluetooth enabled and have it either searching for devices to pair or are carring a device which is turned on which can wake the system.
Just a few things to check..  you may want to go through your power settings and make sure you do not have any conflicting settings configured which may cause it not to hibernate properly.
    Best of luck!

  • Start Up / Wake up issues

    I have a refurbished Mac Pro 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon .
I have had a problem with it sometimes booting up and the screen either is just black or it is all a grey snow . It will do this sometimes when it comes out of sleep as well . If I have a program running and I leave it on and return after say an hour , and the screen is black and I wake it up it is less likely to restart with any screen problems . I have had one where I got the window telling me to push the start button until it shuts down and then restart it ; which is what I have been doing for every event . After that I got the message about sending a report to Apple , and I did . Any thoughts ? Is it serious ? I have gotten to the point where I am probably going to contact Apple .
    Bryan

I did lots of Google/print research for all that I added . The Apogee Duet is sold right on the Apple site as are M-Audio midi controller keyboards . The only other things that I have hooked up are the KRK Rokit 8s and I read reports on many forums about using them with a Mac and no issues , and my monitor from Samsung . The store where I bought it uses the very same monitor model for there Apple shelf display with no issues . I even phoned Apple before I bought this screen .
That just seems crazy that Apple would sell something on their site that is not compatible with their own product .
The screen issue is very intermittent , in fact it has not happened since my first posting of the issue so assuming that my peripherals are not the issue any other guesses or suggestions as to what might cause the screen to behave like I have stated ?

  • Startup/wake up issues

Since I got this computer the issue has been getting worse:
1-When I turn the computer on, I always hear the cd drive check for startup disk, but often the process stops there. I have to start the computer a couple of times to finally finish the process.
2- When I put the computer to sleep, I can wake it up after a minute or so, but can not bring it out of a black screen after ten. I hear the cd check for a disc, but that is all.
I have tried repairing permissions. The person who sold me the mac checked and says it is fine. What should I do?

Caveat Emptor! (Buyer Beware). Contact the eBay seller and complain. There's always an eBay avenue of complaint if you don't get satisfaction from the seller. Also Paypal complaints are taken very seriously.

  • IPhone 5 sleep/wake button issue.

I got my iPhone 5 from Italy the launch day of the device in Europe. I have been using it now for 3 month and it is doing great. But i've been facing an issue that is really annoying. When i am using the phone or want to lock it or vice versa, the sleep/wake button does not do it's job from the first time i need to keep pressing it twice or 3 times for it to lock or unlock the device, this doesn't happen all the time but it happen more than 50 times during the day! I posted my problem on blogs and discussion forums and it wasn't only me who is facing this problem, i found 11 different people who have the same problem and they all went to the Genius bar and changed their phones with new ones. My problem is that i live in Egypt and i do not have an Apple store over here or a genius bar! But the good news is that i am travelling to Paris in a couple of hours and i was asking if they will be able to change my device with a new one over there or not.
PS: This device was locked to a carrier in Italy and i had to pay it's full price that was around 900 euros for the 64GB unlocked version and the guys at the carrier store were really good and they did that for me and it's now unlocked and works on every network i have here in Egypt.

You can use perfect virtual button, to increase the longevity of yours. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibiltiy > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new small white screen button > Device > Lock. You can even use this to turn the iPhone OFF. To turn ON connect iPhone to power ie charger or USB of computer. The France Genius could be very nice and help you, Good Luck.

  • Password Screen, causes random wake up issues and after a call Phone Freezes and needs to be restarted.

I have noticed that the Password Screen is not very robust. I have had numerous times where the phone doesn't bring up the keyboard or the screen comes up black when being "woken up".
I have now noticed that when I am on a long call - speakerphone or using a wired earpiece, that the phone will no longer "wake up". I cannot get to the password screen and the phone is basically unuseable and I need to reboot the phone.
One time this happened where my counterparty had to switch phones and called back immediately. I could not answer his call. I had to do a battery pull. The second time this happened I could at least use the power button to restart the phone.
The password screen seems to cause me quite a few issues.
I would like to know if others are experiencing the same thing.
    Best regards,
    ctfish

i believe the same thing happened to be.  i was thinking that maybe it had to do with the password screen as well but it's weird how it's worked fine for over a month and then BAM.
this morning i wasn't even on a phone call and i looked to wake up my device by swiping up and there is no response.  i can't wake it up from the top button either.  i can see the red notification light blinking and i can hear when i get emails but i can't do anything.  now i'm going to have to just reboot it.  holding the top button shows the power off/restart screen.  that's about all i can get to.  i think i'll try a battery pull this time.

  • New MBP = Goofy Display Wake + Keyboard Issues???

I would like to know if anyone has had the time to try a new MBP out to see if the new Intel Chipset helps with any of the issues that the last MBP's have.
Mainly, if the new chipset fixes some of the wake issues that people have been having, or the keyboard issues where the first character is missed when typing.
Has anyone had a chance to test this out yet?
(I realize that I am jumping the gun a little, but I am really curious)

Do the new (Feb 2008) Macbook Pro models have embedded numeric keypads, along with home/end/page (up/down) arrow-key labels? Have the numeric keypads and arrow-labels been removed, as has recently happened to the Macbook line? Apple's "Design" page for the Feb. 2008 Pro doesn't give a clear answer -- it has some photos of Pro keyboards that include an embedded keypad and home/end/page (up,down) labels, but also includes several photos of Pro keyboards without these.
If the embedded keypad is indeed gone: _poor move, Apple_.
PLEASE put this back on the Pro machines, and soon!
Here's why: Actual "pros" (e.g. advanced tech- oriented users) are much more likely to require the numeric keypad for a range of uses, both in much OS X software (from advanced image and video software to Apple's own keypad mouse control) plus in the Boot Camp world of PC software including non-intuitive PC-style 3-digit alt-character entry. Heck, embedded keypad could have even then been pointed to as a newly differentiating feature of the Macbook Pro line.
There can of course be some software remedy -- but hardware change is the only way to really restore to easiest use, getting the symbols on the keyboard caps. Users should not be expected to memorize these; the embedded keypad may go unused by a user for a straight year, but then need to use OS X or PC software for which the numeric keypad is the only way to perform certain functions.
    Apple: can you
    1) Put back numeric keypad and arrow-key labels

  • Suspend to ram -- wake up issue

I got my computer to go to sleep ok when I shut the lid but it's having some issues waking up.  When it wakes up I can get back to X and type some commands but something is not right and I can't pinpoint it.  For instance the terminal window will freeze on issuing a ping command.  The most obvious sign something is amiss is when I try to edit the suspend to ram script I have.  I get this message:

  • Wake up issue - Yosemite

    I have updated Yosemite.
When I closed my computer and open it immediately, it can be wake up.
But when I close my computer with 10 seconds, it may be waked up after I opened it for 10 mins or never waked up.
This is a fatal problem. Who have faced the same issue? Is there any solution?
    Thanks all suggestion.

It's epidemic (well, it's been showing up on these message boards through the weekend). Here's one thread I'm following: Is anyone else having a problem with a complete system freeze after Mac wakes from sleep mode? Post OS X Yosemite install.
I was with Support yesterday by Chat and they advised removing all items from System Preferences > Users & Groups > User > Login Items. Then restart holding down the Shift key to enter Safe Mode. Then go to Macintosh HD > Library > Cache and delete everything within the Cache folder. Then restart normally.
That didn't work. I've now turned off everything in my System Preferences > Energy Saver (computer and display sleep "Never," and all other menu buttons are un-checked). Until 10.10.01 comes out with a fix, I'll shut the Mac down when I leave home or go on a bike ride.

  • Shut down upon unplug and wake up issues

My laptop shuts down when it is unplugged. Even when I have put it to sleep while plugged in, the next time I open my laptop it does not wake up from sleep no matter the combination or number of keys I hit. I have to hit the power button. Sometimes after hitting the power button I get the grey screen and ten bars restarting what was open. Other times, even with a short press, I end up having hard turned it on. That is, my computer DOES turn on when unplugged, so I do not believe it is a battery issue, like everyone else's problems. I have reset the SMC as well.
Because MS Word Autorecovery is not 100%, I actually lost my senior dissertation 65 pages in because of this problem. The last saved file I had was my outline, so it has been a nightmare, and I would really appreciate any tips or ideas or brainstorming from ya'll so as to get this laptop up and running as beautifully as it usually does.

Did you download the right version of the patch? There is one for x86 and one for x64 os versions. This is the right one you should try: 408196_intl_x64_zip.exe

  • How to fix LaCie drives wake up issue 10.8.2 ?

    Hello,
I searched but could not find a satisfactory solution yet.
    I have lacie quadra d2 250GB (usb, FW400, 800) and another lacie quadra d2 1TB (usb, FW 400, 800, eSata).
I still use powerbook g4 1ghz (latest titanium) with both drives and NO problems at all.
now, I just bought retina MBP and the lacie 250GB does NOT wake up after going to sleep.
the screensaver triggers the external drive to sleep, even when I had unchecked "put the hard drive to sleep..."
now, i downloaded from lacie's site the firmware upgrader file, but it does not recognize my drive. There I cannot upgrade anything.
This issue is still present after 10.8.2 upgrade...
    can anyone help me please?
all the posts I found either here or elsewhere via google, date back to 2-3 years.... and none are helpful...
    thanks in advance....

Hi GeeD, thanks for helping me here.
Now that I can use the "LaCie Firmware Updater" I can see my devices in the updater and that they needed some updates (I don't know how I worked all this time without those updates).
But when I tried to update my "LaCie d2 Quadra v3" and "LaCie d2 Quadra" conected them separately, or both conected at the same time, I can't update any hard disk because an error.
Here are some pics of the sequence of the windows:
And when I do it connecting both disks, but updating just the "LaCie d2 Quadra":
I already write to LaCie, hoping to get an answer. But of course I would be thanksfull for any comment by you.
    Thanks again.

  • I updated my Macbook pro 13in to 10.7.3 and installed the combo and i still get the wifi wake up issue....can anyone help with that

At first my wifi would randomly disconnect. So I googled some things and found this blog and someone said to download the combo update, after I did that; which resolved my problem as of now it's been two days now. I got another problem, everytime I wake my computer it asked me to manually pick a wifi. It might sound rudimentary but I don't expect I really should have to do that on any computer PC or MAC. So could anyone help me with this...is this situation happening to anyone else?

First of all, open System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options, and set your old user account in "Automatic login". By doing this, your computer will always log in with your old account.
Then, log in your old account, where you will be able to delete the new user that OS X Mavericks forced you to create. Other users have reported the same problem
