Waking up a Mac Pro through the network?

I am using my macpro to share files to a macbook pro. after a period of inactivity, the macpro goes to sleep and I am no longer able to access it from my macbook pro.
Is there a way to wake up the mac pro without having to physically touch it?
Thanks.

If it is connected with an ethernet cable, then you can wake it with some sort of wakeOnLAN utility--try searching MacUpdate or VersionTracker. You must tell it to wake on network activity in the energy saver preferences. If it is connected wirelessly, I don't believe there is a way to do it other than setting the Energy Saver prefs to not allow sleep.

  • Is there a way to keep my Mac Pro On the network without sleeping???

i'll try to explain this the best way I can. I often wish to access my Mac Pro over the network either for file sharing, or for use with Apple Remote Desktop. The problem is after about 20-30 minutes, the Mac Pro sleeps and disappears from the network. Is there a way to keep it on the network without turnig off sleep mode? I really don't want the hard drives working 24/7 if possible....
    Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm sure it doesn't matter, but just in case..I'm using the new Apple Airport Extreme base station.

In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, check the 'Wake for Ethernet network administrator access' checkbox under the Options tab, and then use an application such as this one to send it the signal.

  • Trying to print to Color Laserjet CP2025n from OS X Mavericks on a Mac Pro over the network...

Basically, the configuration and drive status all seem OK. But when I try to print something from Adobe Reader, nothing happens after I click print other than the dialog dissappearing. There are no indications of error either. And when I bring up the printer queue, it is completely empty, as if the document was not even sent to it.
I am seeing HP Color Laserjet CP2025n (F4F285) in the Printer selection, as well as in the System Preferences. And from System Preferences,  it shows up as "Idle, last used" with a green dot. I have attached full System Diagnostics, Bluetooth Diagnostics (although, I believe this is network'd over the LAN), and the System Report of my Mac Pro. You can see these @

The other week it printed fine, but it I think I recall seeing two options in the Printer selection box. Now it only shows one, but again, the drivers indicate that everything is alright. I can even view the amount of ink remaining?

    Hi @jahburnit
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the HP Color LaserJet CP2025 Printer series support page helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.
    Best of luck.

  • My new iMac is seen as my old Mac Pro on the network because I used Migration Assistant. How do I change its name to iMac?

I used Migration Assistant about 4 months ago to move everything across to my new iMac. Since then instead of being recognised as an iMac it's seen on the network and other places as my Mac Pro.
How do I change its name to iMac?
    Cheers,
    David
    Mac OS X 10.6.8

Hello David. Open System Preferences > Sharing. At the top you will see Computer Name and the old Mac Pro name. Highlight this and change to the preferred name.
Sometimes you also need to use the Edit button under the name. But if you change the name in the first view and then press the Edit button, it should show the new name you just set.

  • HT4796 Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • Unable to connect to Mac Pro with 2 network interfaces

The Mac Pro has 2 network interfaces. The first one is connected to a local network and the other interface has an external IP address (connected directly to the internet).
What we want to be able to do is to connect to the computer from home through the external interface and then be able to run applications on it that access a server on the local network. But, from home it is showing "Offline" in the "Current Status" column. If we try to connect it fails.
The thing I can't figure out is why I can access it from work on a different local network, using the external IP address. It works fine that way. There are no hardware firewalls that could be causing it. So either way, it is coming into the computer through the external adapter.
I'm stumped... Maybe it's something simple that I'm just missing. If you have any idea how I can access the computer from home please let me know so I can try it.
    Thanks.

Just installed TeamViewer and we're using that. Works great.

  • Printing through the network

I have heard the I can print through my wireless network. Just where do I have to go and what do I have to do to get that going ? I want to be able to print to a printer upstairs from a pc downstairs. The pecee recieves a signal from my wreless router by my macpro.
    thanks

This whole thing began when I asked the tech at school if he had ever used a bluetooth printer. He reponded by saying, "Why would I ? I can just print through the network," I had been thinking of getting a bluetooth printer so my partner could print from downstairs, The printer upstairs prints through the usb cable from the mac pro. No ethernet connection no blutooth on this printer. So this is what leads me to the question.
So it's the printer sharing I need to look at in system preferences ! Thanks. It's got to be possible to go cross platform. I print from both pc and mac to a printer in the room next to mine at school. I've never done anything but add printer from an available printer list which is identifiedby room number or entering the ip address for the printer. I've not needed to do anything about sharing printer in settings. Would this mean the mac pro which it's connected to needs to be on to print from the pcee downstairs or just that the network be active ?
    Thanks

  • Can I buy a Mac Pro in the U.S., with a German keyboard?

can I buy a Mac Pro in the U.S., with a German keyboard?

The Mac Pro Tower is NOT a laptop computer. It weighs 65 lbs, and holds four  full-size Hard Drives. It uses a detachable keyboard.
    US English
    Western Spanish
    French
    Japanese
... are readily available at the Apple Online Store, in wired and wireless.
For German, you would have to call them and make special arrangements, or pick one up an additional keyboard when you get back home.
This thing won't fit in your suitcase. Are you sure you want to pay to ship it home again? I would be tempted to sell it when you are leaving, and buy a new one at Home.
A laptop would be a better choice. These are also available with the same four choices of languages (in all models) through the online store.
You can make all the German characters and accents with the USEnglish keyboard, but some are two keystrokes.

I've also been getting an image with the folder and question mark. I've tried everything on the apple support page but it doesn't seem to work either.

Well, I tried all of your suggestions and they didn't work -- no surprise because I was trying to backup to my external c.d. disk.  Duh!  The application for the home is in the mail.

  • Sending publickey through the network as a byte array.

I send client public key form server to client as a byte array through the network. I'm sruggling when I get that byte array from client side and again assign to the PublicKey variable. Anyone can give me any hints how can I extract the public key from the byte array.
    Thank you

If your public key is from an X509 certificate, you can use the X509EncodedKeySpec class.

  • I have just recently bought a MacBook Air. I am looking for an email which I put into a folder on my Mac Pro. The smart folders have come across to the Air, but not the 'On my Mac' folders. Are they lost?

Are you sure that the "On My Mac" folders weren't empty? If all your mail accounts are IMAP, they may have been.

  • I'd like to carry my system, applications and files on a portable Thunderbolt ssd drive and boot from it.  I have a Mac Pro in the office, iMac at home

I'd like to carry my system, applications and files on a portable Thunderbolt ssd drive and boot from it.  I have a Mac Pro in the office, iMac at home, a MacBook Air for when I'm on the road, all with TB.  Can a single external TB drive boot all three hardware configurations successfully?  I've been told that differences in hardware configurations between the systems make this impossible.  Is this correct?

Piece or peace of cake really though.
A quick install on new hard drive or SSD or 10K and less than an hour to move everything over properly.
YOU looked for a quick fix and found none and all the brick walls.
It is not  days of work to do a clean install and migrate.
There are few if any apps that need to be freshly installed either though there are updates needed for them to be compliant, any driver or plugin also and that is done ahead of time with research.
And your backup or clone of your system is taken care of - you leave the old system boot drive 'as is' untouched.
Also, better strategy to move most all your home folder (except for its own ~/Library) to ANOTHER disk drive and not on t he system drive at all.
As for applications on its own drive or 3rd party, beeen there done that, even SSD or 15K SCSI - no benefit in performance or organization.

I want to upgrade my 2008 Mac pro to the latest one, will it meet the requirement for the future Software that's coming out for the next four years?.

I'd wait. What can't you do that you need? You mean you want to buy a new model, then why not wait for an actual new one, not the two year old 5,1, when you need to and have outgrown.
Yours will run Mountain Lion. yours is 4 yrs old and still supported and has life left.

I am using TM Unifi with an ASUS RT-N18U Wi-Fi router.  I would like to know could I use Apple AirPort Time Capsule to extend (repeater, booster) my Wi-Fi to a part of the house where the Wi-Fi signal is poor
Yes,, if you plan to connect the AirPort Time Capsule to the ASUS router using an Ethernet cable connection that will remain fixed and permanently installed at all times.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so
