Waking up a sleeping iMac- remotely?
Is it possible to remotely wake up a sleeping intel-iMac, running OS 10.4.11?
If my iMac is turned on, and connected to the internet, but asleep, is it possible to wake that iMac up and gain control from my laptop so that I can access and work with the files in that iMac?
Thanks
Steve
Only if it's connected via Ethernet, then you have Wake for Administrative Access set to on, Remote Log-in enabled in Sharing>Firewall, then SSH into it with the right commands.

TV remote waking up my Intel iMac?
This is really odd: in the last week or so, I've noticed my iMac waking up from sleep when I turn off my TV with its remote or when my roomie in the next room does likewise.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fix for it?You posted in the wrong forum. Since you have an Intel, you will need to repost in the Intel-based iMac Forums.
This area is for G5 iMacs which are an entirely different model than an Intel iMac. -

IMac hangs waking up from sleep mode, what can I do?
I have an iMac - early 2008, Inter Core 2 Duo, screenshots of full specs attached below.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion about 3 weeks ago. No problem until 2-3 days ago when the iMac started to 'hang' after waking up from sleep mode.
I'd try to launch Safari but the icon just bounces on the dock.
Force quitting all open apps, force quitting Finder. Still nothing.
Can't shut down unless I hold the power button down.
Then on restart it says something about an application that was previously unresponsive...try to reopen it or wait 50 seconds (or thereabouts) - I choose the latter option.
I've tried to do the usual verify/repair permissions and verify/repair disk. No problem found.
Incidentally, this has only been happening since 'upgrading' to iTunes 11. Coincidence?
Can someone help?Ok, I've done everything suggested above except for running the Disk Utility from the recovery partition, as I will have more time to spend on it tomorrow and that's something I'm too scared to try in a rush....!
I've made a screenshot of the energy saving settings changed to your suggestion, could you let me know if that's what you meant?
I really appreciate your help by the way -
My macbook runs extremely slow when logging in after waking up from sleep, locking up and I am unable to use the keyboard. Furthermore, when just using safari to watch streaming television, my computer gets really slow, and locks up, and the dock appears blank and I sit here frustrated. Anytime i wake up my computer, my keys don't respond and I've waited at most 3 minutes untill i can type in my password. Even sometimes when i type in my password and hit enter, it takes forever to open up my mac. I have barely used any storage in my macbook, since i only use it for college, and I have run clamscan wiht no viruses showing... Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
How can I wake a sleeping iMac from my powerbook remotely? Can this be done over the internet or over my wireless home network only and how? I cannot find a program and my understanding is the macs need to be wired rather than WiFi or Internet related. Im using an airport extreme at home.
Any help appreciated. How can I wake a sleeping iMac from my powerbook remotely?
Try using an application such as this one.
Can this be done over the internet or over my wireless home network only and how?
It can theoretically be done over the Internet, but many routers will filter out the packet. Your Mac needs to be connected to the network through a wired connection; the rest of the network can be wireless.

Bonjour not wakeing up after sleep - again
It happens again, and again: after wakeing up from sleep, the network services do not wake up.
After my iMac wakes up, Safari tells me, that no "Internet Connection" is established. However, with ping etc., everything is fine. In "Bonjour Browser" I see that no Bonjour services are running at all!
This happens with only Ethernet cable connected in about 20% of all wakeups. Very annoying.
To solve it, I activate Airport, and deactivate immediately, then Bonjour wakes up and my internet connection, too.
Any hints? My former posting was archived (who?) and not yet answered.I have exactly the same problem with my Mac mini 2009, also running MacOS X 10.6.3 – but on a more regular basis than you (in about 50% of cases). I don't have Little Snitch running, so whatever is the reason, it's not that.

Lose connection to external USB hard drive after waking up from sleep
My Mac lost connection to the external USB hard drive after waking up from sleep. I can still see the folders in the hard drive in Finders, but when I double clip a folder no file within the folder is displayed. I have to reconnect the hard drive with iMac to read its contents.
May I ask how this happens and is there a solution?
I'm using Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X to read from and write to NTFS format of USB external hard drive.
Thanks!... I un-ticked the "put hard disks to sleep when possible" option in the Energy Saver panel in the System Preferences, and it seems the problem is solved. will have to sleep and wake up my iMac to further verify if this is the solution ...
Alternative advices are always greatly appreciated! -
Apple TV sleep mode remote shortcut no longer works with newest software update. Why? Is there an alternative other than nav to settings menu? Reset remote shortcut dead as well. :(
Hold Menu + Play/Pause to reboot the box from the main menu.

How do I access my iMac remotely when working away from the office?
I work away from the office for much of the time. How can I access my iMac remotely?
Unless this is critcal for some reason I would not do this. Unless you understand all the techinolticcal pit falls you can leave your computer dangerusly exposed doing this. If you are not technical your best bet is going to be to get a wireless router with built in VPN support ($200 - $500) to give you a secure connection home. And then you will need the Apple Remote Desktop app ($90 I think) and even then it will only work if your work compute is also a Mac. There are probably other comerial apps that will let you remote into your Mac desktop on windows but will probably be in the $200 price range.

can someone help me ? My iMac remote control isn't working properly , well all buttons are working apart from the MENU button !! Can anyone shed any light on this ?
As this is the forum for PPC (pre-2006, non Intel) iMacs I assume that is what you have.
Try pairing the remote again:

"Waking out of sleep" mechanical noise made but display still off...
Generally I put my Mac to sleep. For a while now, I would notice the Mac would make the mechanical "waking out of sleep" noise randomly (middle of the night lets say) as if it were coming out of sleep mode yet the screen wouldn't turn on. Any reason for this? I asked this question a week ago and didn't get answer. Any comment would be appreciated! Thanks!
Thanks to Apple my machine is working wonderfully well
New logic board and video card.

Ethernet interface disappears after waking up from sleep
Hi guys,
I've been trying to debug a networking problem without any luck and I think it's about time I ask the forum for help.
My ethernet interface no longer works after I wake up my computer from sleep. I have no idea why.
Before sleep:
# ls /sys/class/net
lo wlp2s0 enp3s0f2
After waking up from sleep,
ls /sys/class/net
lo wlp2s0
Here are the list of services I have running.

Furthermore, plugging in the ethernet cord after the computer has started doesn't connect to the internet, even when I have the ifplugd service running. I am forced to run:
sudo ip link set enp3s0f2 up
sudo dhcpcd enp3s0f2
However, I can't run these commands after the laptop wakes up from sleep since it no longer sees the ethernet interface.
I am thoroughly confused. Please help me.It seems to be fixed after the kernel update. On an related note, I've switched from using dhcpcd to netctl. I've enabled netctl to automatically connect to the network using:
# systemctl enable [email protected]
# systemctl enable [email protected]
So when I check for the status of the ethernet profile, I get told that's it's inactive.
#netctl status ethernet-dhcp

But I turned off the wireless, so I must be connected to the ethernet, So how do I know which profile I'm connected to? -
