Waking up display since up-grading to Mac OS 10.5.2

Since I up-graded my operating system from Leopard Mac OS 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 I cannot wake-up my computer from sleep mode(it runs with a black screen) without having to force quit and restart it. Is anyone else having the same problem and can you please help?

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

And is there driver updates for anyone using the all-in-ones HP printers...has anyone been able to use their scanners since the update? and has the dual screen support been added to avoid the blue screen on startup?

The ATI Radeon 9600 PC/Mac edition 256 MB should work in the MDD G4. It has two DVI ports (one is dual-link and can support a 30" display). You will need adapters for ADC displays.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem since it won't read from DVD, and it is only a year and a half old.  Hopefully all it is, is bad RAM*:

Since update of my Mac Book Pro my previously drafted Notes no longer appear on my Mac but are still available through iCloud on my iPhone and iPad. How do I get my Mac to sync with the other devices as e'thing else has synced on my MAC through iCloud. Also since the update Notes no longer appear as a folder in "Mail" but are now a distinct programme-is there any way of returning Notes to the Mail programme?

Thanks, but I've been on the phone with AppleCare US (where I am and live) and AppleCare UK. They continue bouncing me back and forth without helping resolve the problem.
Perhaps someones knows how to further escalate the issue at Apple?

Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Display issue on late 2012 Mac Mini

My display flickers as described elsewhere (Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.7). When I tried to download and boot it I got a message "The software is not supported on your system". My image flicks from normal to all "pink and turquoise". Late 2012 model.
Strange thing is that when I check Display in System Preferences and check "best for this display" it proposes 60 Hz NTSC even if I installed it and used it in Sweden which is PAL territory. I have to admit that I bought the Mini in US, but according to the salesman it should work anywhere and my last Mini was also bought in US and worked without any problems for five years in Europe.
    Any ideas

There are quite a few threads regarding this issue.

Are two of the "larger" threads on this issue.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mail issues since manually updating to Mac OS X 10.5.5

Many email issues have popped up since I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.5.... could I have some help please?
I have a gmail IMAP account in Mail, and a POP account.
my most recent incoming emails are not showing up in Mac Mail but they are on the web at gmail.
the little circle is constantly turning next to my gmail Inbox and no new mail is showing up.
Sent messages are not showing up in Mac Mail.
I sent two tests msgs to myself from Mac Mail --one shows up only on web gmail, not in Mac Mail Sent or Inbox. The other is slowly sending according to Mac Mail and has showed up in web gmail.
I'm sure there is other important info I'm leaving out.

    Gayle,
I thought I wrote a response that now I do not find. In it I said that in my setup for my Gmail IMAP, "Use IDLE" is not checked, and Compact mailboxes automatically is checked but gray.
Nevertheless, with a Gmail account you should be able to remove the account, and then add it back without losing anything that is stored on the Gmail server. You would do this in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, where you would highlight the Gmail IMAP account on the left, and then click the minus sign beneath that column. Then when you add, by clicking on the + sign, you again set it up as IMAP.
For double safety, you can use the Finder to open Home/Library, locate the Mail folder and Duplicate it, and then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup.

  • Is an Apple Cinema Display (ca 2005) Compatible with Mac Mini?

I have a 2005 Power Mac Dual G5/2.3 I took off-line last year. It used an Apple Cinema Display 20" that has it's own power supply "brick" and a cord with the monitor connection, a USB connection, and a FireWire connection. Is this display compatible with the latest Mac Mini? Thank you for any advice you may have.

That's correct, the link perfectly describes the Apple 20" Cinema Display I have. With the new Mac Minis requiring an HDMI cable to link to a display, the HDMI to DVI (female) adapter looks like the one I need. I found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Gino-Black-Female-Converter-Adapter/dp/B006Z8N60C/ref=sr_1 _18?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371158207&sr=1-18&keywords=hdmi+to+dvi+adapter+ca ble
This adapter is an all-in-one plug with no cable linking the HDMI to the DVI ends. It looks like it might be too wide to plug in anything immediately adjacent to the HDMI socket on the Mac Mini due to the width of the adapter when the adapter is plugged in. However, I could get around this by purchasing an extension cable with HDMI male on one end and the HDMI female on the other if I had to.
However, one of the comments said that the DVI is video-only and that another cable is required for audio. Can I assume that plugging in either or both of the other connections (a USB and a FireWire) coming out of the 20" display will take care of audio?
That leads to another answer, but I'm confident that I'm almost there thanks to your help. Close enough to mark this as "solved". Thank you! Let me know if you have any further thoughts with regard to the audio though.

  • Will my two year old 27 inch cinema display work on the new Mac Pro?

Im interested in purchasing a new Mac Pro later this month when unvieled. My question is....will my currentl "Apple LED Cinema Display" work with the new Mac Pro with Turbo Boost ports? My display is Model # A 1316.

    Yes, you can.

  • Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Mini DisplayPort (like 27" LED Cinema Display) is a direct subset of ThunderBolt (like Mac pro late 2013). It plugs right in and the display portion "just works", no adapters required.

  • Can I use my iMac as a display for a G5 - New Mac User

I am still a fairly new iMac user, I would like to know if I can use my exsisting iMac with someones elses G5, and use my iMac as a screen display for his G5. Im sorry if this topic does not belong in this forum, I did try searching thru other forums to post and read up on this info.
Please direct me to the right place, or answer my question. Thanks in advance.

Here's the scoop, if you want to use any iMac as an external display for a G5 Mac you have these options.
    1. Target Disk Mode, only available on iMacs with Firewire:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58207
This only gives you access to the data files of that Mac and basically treats it as an external hard disk.
    2. Networking via ethernet, wireless, or Firewire, you can setup Virtual Network Computing or Remote Desktop:
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=VNC&os=macosx
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?os=macosx&keywords=remote+desktop
    3. As others have suggested, somehow to remove the VGA cable from the logicboard of the iMac and connect it to the Mac externally.
The external VGA port of iMacs only display what is on the Mac itself and as far I know can't be used in a reverse signal application.
