Is there a way to create a shortcut on your play lists? As opposed to opening the app, swiping right, selecting play list and the shuffle.
On the previous version you could make a shortcut to your Favourites for example.

It is not possible to create a playlist shortcuts within the Walkman® application. You can still create shortcut in home screen to a Walkman® playlist. Note that this can only be done for playlist containing local songs. Find an empty spot on home screen, touch and hold down. Then select Apps, Shortcuts and scroll horizontally to the Playlist shortcut and select. Choose the desired playlist from the list.

Walkman app stopped operating!

Walkman app (version: 8.4.A.5.4) stopped operating suddenly.
After tapping on the app, I get a message "Unfortunately, Walkman has stopped.",
and so the app can't be even opened, no music can't be played even through the Walkman app widget
The app was not updated recently, it was like a month ago.
I tried to restart the phone, but nothing has changed.

Suggestion for a needed Walkman app improvement

Dear Sirs,
Although I’ll sadly have to part from my Sony Z1 (for other issues reported on this forum and to Sony Xperia Care, namely the touchscreen issue), I would still like to leave a suggestion for the most underachieving app (imho) from a Sony Smartphone.
With the long tradition on audio excellence and the Walkman brand, I would suspect that it would be a strong point on a Sony Smartphone. Strangely enough, the Walkman app made me buy a third party app (PowerAmp) to get some basic functionality like I had on my old iPhone 3GS.
One of the most serious faults of the Walkman app is the lack of volume normalization between audio tracks. Although Sony does provide a workaround (which is nothing more than a dynamic range compressor), it doesn’t make any sense (imho) with today’s technology.
Replaygain (for instance) is a free (but very effective) way of normalizing volumes without degrading the sound quality. Many apps like PowerAmp have it, and even iTunes has a proprietary version of it built in on every device for many years now.
As I said before, this can be done with third-party apps and third-party media management software (like JRiver or the free Foobar), but by doing so, the user loses the integration provided by a unique manufacturer (Sony Media Go -> Sony Walkman).
I’m really just trying to help, as it gets harder to understand why Sony lacks on such elementary things audio-wise, when the same company has Walkmans supporting the highest definition audio formats available today.
I tend to relate Sony with high quality digital audio products, so it seems strange that this particular app is so rudimentary on these levels. The Walkman app is eye-candy, but it should also be “hear-candy”, which it isn’t.

How do I re-update my walkman app?

In the app setting screen there is an option of deleting the walkman app's update.
After deleting that update, I am now stuck with the older version of the app. Is there a way for me to re-update to the
newest version? Repairing my phone through the companion software on pc does not seem to help.

OK now I tried myself and contacted local (German) support.
Described the problem (deinstalled update of Walkman, also outdated versions of Album and Movies, for all of them Update Center not showing the latest versions).
First instruction to solve was to stop the Update Center app and remove data and cache then reboot the phone. I did that already twice but for the sake of doing it I did it again and of course it did not help . Which I told the guy from support.
He then told me he was sorry but I had to download the apk files from the internet and install them myself. I asked if I should share this recommendation as support solution and he agreed to that. So here you are (strange they don't even offer to send or download the apk files...)
Finally I asked if I would be receiving incremental update notifications via Update Center which he confirmed. I will come back on that once we know there are newer versions we don't get notified about...

Messing up the Walkman app

I put up a review with the new Walkman app update on Google Play, but I feel very strongly about this and wanted to address it here also to make sure my point gets across. The worst mistake that could have been made with updating the Walkman app was to change it to "Music."
I remember when I first got my Xperia Z and saw Walkman there on the home screen, I was immediately impressed, just seeing the Walkman name and logo made me feel I had made the right choice in purchasing an Xperia and I felt that I surely had a superior phone to my friends and associates with iPhones and Galaxies and everything else. The Walkman name and logo immediately brings to mind quality. I don't use Google's Play Music because I have a Walkman, I have the Amazon MP3 Player and only use that for streaming Prime music because I can't listen to it otherwise. Any songs I buy on Google Play or Amazon I will download to my phone's SD card even when it is an extreme pain in the neck and I have to jump back and forth from my phone to computer and upload and download files multiple times, because I have a Walkman. Even though I'm still listening to the songs on my Xperia Z and the actual audio quality isn't significantly different from one app to the other, I prefer Walkman for the simple fact that it is Walkman, That name and logo bring to mind a high quality, satisfying musical experience. Changing it to "Music" with a musical note for a logo makes me feel like I've just been robbed. It looks like it's just some generic, garbage music player app I found on Google Play. I feel like something valuable has been taken from me and replaced by some rip off junk, like the "Suny" electronics you can find for sale in the alleyways of Hong Kong. I played with the new "Music" app a little bit, and I know it isn't really that different. I don't like the full screen view of the current song, I very much preferred the old style with open space around the album art, and the next song up's album showing on the side, and the effect when you tapped the album to bring up the + (artist) star and infinity buttons. Besides that it is essentially the same, but with the new name and logo, I don't want to use it anymore. I don't want to listen to "Music", I want to listen to my Walkman. I was able to uninstall the update and get back to version 8.5.A.3.2 with the Update Center app, so I'll keep using that for now, but please, Sony, change it back to Walkman.

Thanks for the link to the other topic. If I did get the second widget when I updated to 4.4.4, I must have just removed it from the home screen and never given it a second thought. As far as with the Music update, I still had the older widget on my home screen before I uninstalled Music, so I didn't notice, however over on the Google+ Walkman Beta Test community I did notice a post about the new Music app (not sure if it's the just released version or an older beta) complaining about the same thing, so I'd say no, the progress bar and start/end times are still missing from the widget. Sony Walkman App not signing in

Hi I bought a Z2 last week and its working smooth however I am unable to sign in into thr walkman app. It keeps saying could not sign in. I have removed SEN account and then logged back in and done everything I can but atill the same issue. Can someone advise whats the best I can do?

a few days ago, my Music Unlimited Service stopped working on my Sony Z1 Compact. I had the latest Walkman App Update installed. I just couldn't sign in anymore. It was very annoying - I am paying for this service.
Well, here is how I solved the problem and I please you SONY, please help your people! We really love your products but you have to keep on working hard and get things done! FIRST: Improve the conversation with us, do inform us about issues !!! SECOND: Better test your software and improve your quality management !!!
ok:
- Go to settings and apps, choose Walkman.
- Stop the App. Uninstall all updates and re-activate the shipped version
- Restart your phone
The old app is without the sidebar and all these bells and whistles but it is working at least ...

Feedback on Walkman app

I have scoured the net for places to post Walkman app feedback and not found anything better than here, so here goes.
As of the most recent version of Walkman (8.0.A.0.4), here is my feedback:
THE GOOD:
* Walkman continues to be the best-looking music manager on Android and maybe even on any mobile device, period. Great design and aesthetics.
* The SenseMe playlists actually work pretty well!
THE BAD:
* MP3 "ALBUM_ARTIST" tag is ignored. To be fair, this is a long-known issue with Android mediastore and has been for years. Because Google is obviously not doing anything about it, perhaps Walkman could come out with its own music tag scanner, that does not use the Android mediastore for its tag info. As long as Walkman relies on Android's mediastore, tags are going to be dorked up.
In plain english, the reason this is an issue is that albums with multiple artists get split up into a number of separate artists (for example, in the tag "ALBUM_ARTIST" I put "Various Artists" and then for each track's "ARTIST" field, it lists the name of the artist for that track. Walkman - and virtually every other Android music player - ignores this ALBUM_ARTIST field, instead listing a whole bunch of artists with only 1 song listed for each. Obviously, iOS devices have long figured this out by accomodating not only the ALBUM_ARTIST field for MP3s but the "Compilation" tag as well.
* There should be a simple button to clear the play queue. Every major player except Walkman has this basic feature. Saying "just play a different album" is not really an answer.
* Enqueue album should append the album being enqueued to the end of the current play queue.
* Need to be able to multiple-select items in the play queue.
* Option to hide Artist background images (just use a color) when an artist is selected. I have a lot of independent artists in my player and Gracenote does a poor job at matching, often to humorous or annoying results.

Walkman app - shuffle list?

Z1 phone - Walkman app - enter palylist and press on a song, all ok song starts playing. I select shuffle and it does not appear to work. At the end of the song it does not carry on to any other selection. How do I get this to work please?

Yep, I am having the same issue with the walkman player on my Xperia Z1. The Walkman app is the latest version, but it simply will not shuffle songs. I have have some songs on the phone memory and a micro SD chip, and no matter what I do, it just repeats the current song. It will show the songs that it should be playing next, but it won't play them. Nothing wrong with the micro SD chip either. I can take it out, put in another device, and the songs suffle perfectly well. Can anyone out there provide some ideas about how to fix?

Walkman app doesn't update after a device reset

I recently reseted my xperia Z1 and wipe all data because it was time for some cleaning for my device. After i reapply all setting for the device it was time to use update center to update Sony applications. All applications updated except Walkman application that remain at stock version. I reseted the device again thinking that something went wrong but the same issue occurred. Before the reset i had the update installed (latest one , with material design) and had no problem before wit updates.
Luckily i had a backup of all apk's and i installed the new Walkman version manually from the backup and works fine. The problem is that update center dosen't seam to find updates for Walkman app and it's strange that before the reset i updated to that new version.
Is there a problem wen updating Walkman directly from stock version to latest?, because before, i updated to the current version in multiple updates from the stock to new version.
Does anybody have any idea on wat's going on? If i installed the new Walkman app manually from an apk file, will future updates release throw update center work? And why wont any updates for the stock app recognised using update center?

I had experienced the same issue, for some odd reason it take few days for Sony's apps to be re-updated. You will continue to receive updates as long as you don't unlock the bootloader.

Walkman app issue

whenever i play a music with album art on the walkman app, the app itself creates copies of the album art to the path: /storage/emulated/0/android/data/com.sonyericsson.music/files/cache/. it was not happening until i updated the app to te latest version. please help with this issue. thank you.

Yes it has always done that but you may have been looking at /storage/sdcard0/android/data/com.sonyericsson.music/files/cache/ - sdcard0 and emulated are one and the same thing the difference is some apps are designed to work in the emulated folder so that they will work on other devices that don't use the sdcard0 file name but they are one and same

Walkman App!

Dear All,
I'm surprise about the Walkman app in the Z1 compare the Z!!
Because It's the old version. I mean with the Z the last update, add more options with Music Unlimited, like the new release and so on.
Now with the Z1, it's gone and is not really logical to have less option with a new model!!
Please update the Walkman app for the Z1, ASAP for the Music Unlimited Premium Users!

It is sad that in Poland we do not have Music Unlimited, no Video Unlimited, no Playstation Mobile, no Xperia Privilege Sony seems to divide people into better and worse ones in this case

Xperia Z1 Walkman app

After upgrading to Android 4.3 and Walkman Ver. 8.1.A.0.3, I found that the Sound effect -> Sound enhancements -> settings couldn't be access. It quits automatically.
Besides, I can't use the throw (DLNA) to my Home theatre System nor Bravia via Walkman app.
Anybody has the same?

Is this version causing my problem before? Should I update it?
BTW, just found that "Throw" cannot support FLAC file.
I really hope there is an improvement of Walkman app on folder monitoring setting, "Throw" and file supporting like .ape.

Walkman app display incorrect album cover

I made an account just to post this.
Okay, my device is Xperia Z1 C6903 and I use the Walkman app to play music, and honestly, I love the app, it's a great app and all, I love the interface and surround feature. I do not have thought of using any other music player such as Poweramp.
But I don't understand why the all the files in an album has to display the same album art, I don't know about if my app or system is defective, all I know is Walkman works likes this:
All files with the same Album name tag, with album art or not, will display the same album art as the first track of the album.
Therefore if the files in an album contains different variety of album art, it will all be replaced by the album art tagged in the first track.
I have thoughts if I am the only one who has this problem cause not only Walkman app does this sort of thing, even Play Music (Google's music app) does the same, is something wrong with my system? So far I know Poweramp (Trial) display album art correctly and does not have any sort of this kind of problem.
And no, my phone is not rooted.
That is bascially my problem is anyone know the solution, or comments, you're more than welcomed to share. Honestly, I love this app and I cannot be persuade to use another app to play music.
P.S.
If you ask me if there's any improvement/new feature that can be done to this app, and the only thing that I'd wish this app can have is crossfade effect and please, remove the big title block with "Enjoy Your Music Anytime and Everywhere" on it, it takes up lot of space and I hate to have to scroll down in order to access other shortcuts.

Okay, here's what I did, I tested out an album with two songs in it, both tagged with different cover when displayed on PC, now I transfered it to Z1 by just dragging it to SD card folder, didn't use Media Go or anything, when displayed on Walkman, the second song displays album cover that is of the first song, I proceed to "Edit music info", I clicked on the album art, I discovered that is over written by something, so I clicked on "Clear album art", choose "Save", and turned out the song got quickly over written again, I think it has something to do with the "Download music info" app thing, by Gracenote, unless this is under observation of a developer, I don't think this can be solved, right now I'd try using Media Go, see if that works.

Walkman app not showing my downloaded podcast mp3 and m4a files

Hi all,
Hope someone can help me with an Issue on my Z3 Compact running Lollipop 5.0.2 firmware.
I have a Music folder on my SDCard which contains all my music files in subfolders and all these files appear in the Walkman app just fine.
I also have two folders called 'Podcasts' - one on the internal storage and one on the SDCard which contain mp3 and m4a files which I have downloaded using 3rd party apps.
I would like to listen to these podcast files using the Walkman app - but they will not appear in Walkman - even if I try the Folders options.but it still will not show either of the Podcast folders.
The weird thing is it lists voices and sounds / voices rom two different SatNav folders which are stored on the SDCard - but not the podcast folders!!
It even lists a folder of foreign language audio mp3 files - but not the podcast files.
The podcast files appear fine in PowerAmp whic even shows the tags and descriptions etc....So, why not Walkman?
I even tried unmounting and re-mounting the SDCard to see if it would rescan - but still nothing.
Any ideas?

SendAndLoad fails in mac .app version - possible security setting problem?

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with sendAndLoad working on the .app version of a flash application I made. So far it's only happening on one computer, so it appears to be some sort of security setting. Here's what's going on:
I've built a flash application (Flash 9, AS2) that has three versions: an online version, a standalone .exe version for PC, and a standalone .app version for mac. The user must log in to use the application. Online, this is handled by the portal hosting the flash. In the standalone versions, the user must login through the flash application. Through sendAndLoad, it accesses the same database of user info as the online version. The user just enters username/password, clicks "Submit," and if it finds the combination in the database, it lets the user in. If not, it gives them a message saying they entered the wrong username/password.
This has tested fine across macs and pcs, but sadly one macbook can't use the .app version. It launches, they put in valid username/password, hit submit and it freezes. All I can tell is that it gets the httpStatus number 0. As you can see below, I've got it set up to spit out an error message if it fails to load (login_lv.onLoad = function(success)), but it doesn't even do that.
I've put a crossdomain.xml file at the root level of the domain that's set to allow access from any domain.
This computer can log in successfully to the online version of the course, but the .app version seems to be hampered by some sort of security setting. The problem computer's settings match the settings of a mac I've tested successfully. It has up-to-date Flash 10 and is running Leopard. Here are security settings:

     Firewall
          "Allow all incoming connections" is selected
I'd appreciate any ideas anyone has. I'm far from wise about the ins-and-outs of mac security, so I may be missing something. I'm happy to clarify anything.
Code is below. It loads login_lv first, then bookmark_lv. It never gets far enough to load bookmark_lv. The severAppUrl is set to a placeholder for confidentiality's sake. The path is defintely right. It works on other computers.
