Walkman Performance on Z3 Compact

Hi,
currently I own the Z1 Compact but I plan to "upgrade" to the Z3 Compact very soon. View questions please:
Sound quality in Walkman App BETTER than Z3 Compact?
High Res Audio: Is it worth?
Sound Volume: Quite low on the Z1 Compact ...
I would like to say that the Z1 Compact is already able to playback High Res Audio Files (WAV and FLAC up to 24bit/96KHz, try it ;-) so I am not sure if it is only a "marketing trick" of Sony or if the Z3 Compact is noticeably better in playing back High Res Files ...

In other threat of mine, I've been told by a Sony engineer who participated in the design of latest Xperia phones that although Z1C can process the HD audio files at the input (it can read them), it can only output music at 48kHz, 16 bit because those are the specifications of its D/A converter.
Whereas Z3C, I believe, converts everything to 192 kHz, 24 bit, processes the audio files internally in that format and also outputs them at 192 kHz, 24 bit because, unlike Z1C, it features an HD D/A converter.
I am also thinking QUITE hard about upgrading to Z3C from Z1C some time next year when the prices go down a bit. I find the audio quality provided by my Z1C as EXCELLENT. But the fact that Z3C can output at 192 kHz, 24 bit is quite something to consider.
Needless to say, I was very disappointed seeing those "Z3C cracked screen" threads appearing in Z3C forum. Kind of put me back. We'll see how things develop with Z3C.

  • High water mark creates performance degradation

    Hi all,
    I need help...
How to find High water mark for tables. How to decide what are all tables needs to be reorginised. I want clear cut idea on this issue.
    Please help me.
    Regards,

You use online segment shrink to reclaim fragmented free space below the high water mark in an Oracle Database segment. The benefits of segment shrink are these:
Compaction of data leads to better cache utilization, which in turn leads to better online transaction processing (OLTP) performance.
The compacted data requires fewer blocks to be scanned in full table scans, which in turns leads to better decision support system (DSS) performance.

  • Real 64-bit version of itunes

I was wondering why apple has not been able to come up with a native 64-bit version of iTunes to allow for those with larger libraries to have better performance. With compact disks down to 25 cents I tend to buy vast numbers of them and feed them all to iTunes. All are imported with Apple Lossless so I do not trash the sound quality.
Right now my iTunes library lives on a dedicated 2TB disk, but eventually that will give way to a larger disk once it fills.

I have Windows 7 x64 on my portable rig and Windows 8.1 x64 on my desktop
    downloading the installer now....
I have been using 64-bit Windows since XP Pro x64 surfaced around 2005
I will get back here with results

  • Datafile issue

    Hi
we are using oracle 10g for our database. Whenever my application is running it will delete the all records which after 24hrs. I am getting on avg daily 3000 new records. After 24hrs it will be deleted but datafile size keep on increasing. Even i used command ALTER DATABASE tablename DEALLOCATE UNUSED but space is not resizing. what is the reason? I want to resize the datafile
    Please urgent & reply me

You have to Shrink Database Segments
    Shrinking Database Segments Online
You use online segment shrink to reclaim fragmented free space below the high water mark in an Oracle Database segment. The benefits of segment shrink are these:
Compaction of data leads to better cache utilization, which in turn leads to better online transaction processing (OLTP) performance.
The compacted data requires fewer blocks to be scanned in full table scans, which in turns leads to better decision support system (DSS) performance.
Segment shrink is an online, in-place operation. DML operations and queries can be issued during the data movement phase of segment shrink. Concurrent DML operation are blocked for a short time at the end of the shrink operation, when the space is deallocated. Indexes are maintained during the shrink operation and remain usable after the operation is complete. Segment shrink does not require extra disk space to be allocated.

  • Anyway to shrink tablespace online?

I have a 500GB tablespace with 10 files, that was full, after deleting, purge, it is half free now, I want to reduce datafile size, but I can not do "alter database datafile resize...." as some object in the end of the file.
    anyway to shrink tablespace/datafiles online?
    Thanks!!

Oh, sorry I thought they pointed you in the right direction.
What about using the SHRINK SPACE command? Take a look at it here...
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/schema003.htm#ADMIN10161
It seems to do what you want.
You use online segment shrink to reclaim fragmented free space below the high water mark in an Oracle Database segment. The benefits of segment shrink are these:
Compaction of data leads to better cache utilization, which in turn leads to better online transaction processing (OLTP) performance.

Concurrent DML operation are blocked for a short time at the end of the shrink operation, when the space is deallocated. Indexes are maintained during the shrink operation and remain usable after the operation is complete. Segment shrink does not require extra disk space to be allocated.
Segment shrink reclaims unused space both above and below the high water mark. In contrast, space deallocation reclaims unused space only above the high water mark. In shrink operations, by default, the database compacts the segment, adjusts the high water mark, and releases the reclaimed space.
Segment shrink requires that rows be moved to new locations. Therefore, you must first enable row movement in the object you want to shrink and disable any rowid-based triggers defined on the object. You enable row movement in a table with the ALTER TABLE ... ENABLE ROW MOVEMENT command.

  • How to improve compact performances

    Hello,
    I have a question regarding scaling DB->compact:
My setup is quite simple: I have a 32 environments with 512 MB of cache and 5 databases each. The biggest database is about 8GB and is filled at 66%. My application is running non stop and I'd like to get some disk space back from my databases.
So I added some code that manually compacts this big database step by step (about 100 pages of 64K at each step) and using 90% fillpercent, but I found out that compact makes lots of IO and it heavily affected my application's performances...
The only solution I've found so far is to increase cache to 3GB for the env being compacted; then my application runs normally but as I cannot afford that much memory, I have the following questions:
    - Why compact requires that much cache? makes that many IOs?
    - Is there another way that does not involve that much cache?
    - I'm running Berkeley DB 4.7.25 on FreeBSD. Could it help to upgrade to a newer version?
Any comment that could help me understand why things are so would be much appreciated.
    Well, thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Database compaction can be a very I/O intensive operation as data needs to be moved between database pages, dirtied pages from the cache need to be flushed to disk in order to have enough room for the set of pages required by compaction to stay in the buffer pool etc.
There are some strategies to reduce the I/O impact. Bellow are a series of suggestions that you could try:
    1. If you can upgrade to the most recent Berkeley DB version then you should do it. There were lots of enhancements and bug fixes in the compaction code. Download the latest BDB production release from here.
    2. When doing compaction of a database opened within a transactional environment perform the compact without passing an explicit transaction to the DB->compact() method, that is, using a NULL txnid pointer. In such case, the operation will be implicitly transaction protected using multiple transactions. These transactions will be periodically committed to avoid locking large sections of the tree. Any deadlocks encountered cause the compaction operation to be retried from the point of the last transaction commit. Compact does not keep the pages it scans locked. Any page that does not have to be updated is unlocked immediately. BDB locks only the pages that are below a single parent page of the leaf level, and does not lock the pages in the free list when removing them from the file; only the metadata page will be locked.
    3. When running compaction in order to free up space and return empty database pages to the filesystem it is usually recommended to repeat the compact with a lower compact_fillpercent. The following output statistics fields in the DB_COMPACT structure, compact_pages_truncated and compact_pages_free should be examined to determine if there is a point in continuing to run compaction with the same compact_fillpercent or if a lower compact_fillpercent should be used. If the values are strict positives then it's worth calling DB->compact again with the same compact_fillpercent (and specifying the DB_FREE_SPACE flag).
The compact algorithm makes a one-pass over the pages of the database; so nonempty pages at the end of the file will prevent free pages (that are placed on the free list) from being returned to the filesystem.
    4. If you can logically split your database into sections of key/data pairs based on the values of the keys, then you can perform compaction only on certain parts of the database. Use start and stop keys when doing the DB->compact() call.
    5. You can inspect the memory pool statistics to see if your cache is performing well. See the Selecting a cache size documentation section. It usually helps, in particular when doing compaction, to increase the cache size.
    6. Perform the compact operation when there is no intensive write activity in the database, that is, when other threads of control are not writing to the database (or when such activity is moderate to low).
    7. Use memory pool trickling by calling DB_ENV->memp_trickle() to try keeping a certain percent of the pages in the cache clean.

    Andrei

  • Problem Walkman+lockscreen z1 compact

Sorry for my english. Walkman and Vkontakte player work normal at 4.3. I can change music or pause/play it on lockscreen. Problem appear after 4.4.2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2KOqFwjAY0 - you can see how it works now. I meet someone who have z1 compact with the same firmware like my z1 compact and there is no problem. I've rolled back walkman to first version - no results. Update walkman to the last version - no results. Delete Vkontakte - no results. But I don't want reset phone to default. Maybe may there is another solution. • Does DB compact help performance

We have DB where there have been heavy create/delete and read traffic. The DB XML stores around 1.4 million xml documents around 4/8k in size.
The DB XML file has grown to be around 24 gigs.
I understand this is a DB forum but the question seems generic.. given that the DB is a sparse file.. does DB compacting help performance?
We are seeing latency times raise up quite high periodically (potentially correlated with checkpointing).
What kind of information should we collect from the running environment to help deduct the impact of checkpointing on such a DB file?

Using DB->compact can help the performance of any database that has been heavily updated. It will attempt to move data to a smaller number of pages in the database. This will make database page cache more efficient. DB->compact may be run while other activities are happening in the database but it is a heavy weight operation, reading all of the database and updating many pages, so it is recommended that it be used at a time when you have less other activity.
A checkpoint will schedule all dirty pages in the cache to be written to disk. This can certainly slow things down if you have many dirty pages. Using the utility db_stat -m will show you the activity in the page cache. It does not directly show you the impact of a checkpoint but will tell you how many pages have been written to disk. You can use db_stat -mZ to reset the statistics prior to a checkpoint to see more clearly what happens during the checkpoint.
To spread out the effect of the checkpoint you can run a trickle thread (see http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_c/memp_trickle.html ) which will write pages to disk between checkpoints.

  • Add Walkman widget to the lockscreen (list) Xperia Z1 compact ??

    How?
The list has many other suggestions, but I can't quite figure out how to include the widget.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Touch the home screen and options should appear at the bottom - Look for Widgets then slide along until you see the walkman widget then touch it to add to your home screen then when done touch your home button - If you want to move the widget then touch and hold it then slide it to where you want

  • Compact FP Communication Performance

I am using Compact Fieldpoint to Run an RT application. One of the modules is a DO. The hardware responds very fast as my program turns these channels on or off. But when I monitor the same module via Datasocket from the GUI on tHe host pc. There is a 1/2 sec lag.... I am using thelookout protocol and the new ds vi. that comes with the rt pallett. any ideas ?

Two possibilities are related to the processor loading on the cFP-20xx module. In FP-20xx and cFP-20xx modules, there are two programs that are running simultaneously; the LabVIEW Run Time engine and the IA Control environment. The IA Control Environment is responsible for the publishing of the data items via the lookout protocol. If the LabVIEW code is running at a higher than normal priority, it may not be allowing the IA Control Environment as much processing time as it requires to publish the data at more than 1/2 second intervals. Alternatively, in FieldPoint Explorer, you can right click on a network module (RT only) and choose Edit This Device. One of the parameters is called Pause (ms), this parameter allows you to put the IA Control Environment to sleep f
or the amount of time specificed by the Pause parameter. If your module is currently set to 500 ms, that may also be why you are only seeing updates after a half second.

Does anyone know exactly when the Android KitKat and Sony software updates are going to be available in the UK from Sony? My phone is an unlocked SIM-free unit and there is no sign of an update from Sony, even though I have been checking all day! I cannot see why Sony can't publish a planned timetable for availability of these updates for SIM-free phones in each country!! Why all the obscure mystery? Surely Sony must know what their schedule is?

  • Steps to compact a hyper-v VHD without bringing down live VM.

    Hi all,
I have a hyper-v 2008 R2 hyper-v host with some VM's that are dynamic disks. Some of them have grown to the point where our backup is failing because its exceeding the capacity of the tape.
I know the general proper process to compact a VHD is to:
    1. Defrag the VM
    2. zero out empty space with a utility like sdelete or precompact.exe
    3. compact within the VM manager edit disk or to use diskpart. (I think diskpart will be faster?)
Since these are live VM's I don't want to bring them down for too long. I was thinking I could take a of copy the VHD's and put them on another 2008 machine, Mount the VHD as a drive and perform the steps above. Then I would remove the old VHD on the production
server and copy over the compacted VHD.
What Im not sure about, is whether it is ok to run defrag and sdelete on the mounted VHD or whether its preferable to run that within the VM itself?
Secondly does the machine where I mount the VHD's need to be the same OS and have hyper-v installed? For example if I copied the VHD to a windows 7 machine and mounted for these steps would that cause a problem when I restore it back on the server 2008 hyper-v
    server?
Lastly I see people who use a third party app to defrag. What benefit is there to using a third party utility (defragger etc) versus the built in defrag within windows? Does it even matter?

  • Xperia Live with Walkman on Android 4.0.4 (with screenies)

My Thoughts on Android 4.0.4 on Xperia Live with Walkman
    -Sleeker Font Style.
-Camera Shortcut right from the Lock Screen.
-Able to access the drop down notification bar even when locked.
-Music Player access right from the lock screen
    -New Owner Info Option display
-Face Unlock works great on Live with walkman.
-Awesome new themes. Xperia NXT Style! Although they are only wallpapers, not the live ones seen on 2012 devices. My favorite is Tourquoise (Did I spell that right?)
-The Performance Assistant will help you disable some of the apps that you dont need.
-There it is! Official Android 4.0.4. Ice Cream Sandwich. OH YEAHHHH!!!
-If you repeatedly tap on the Android Version Menu. This little Primitive Droid will surprise you. HEHE!!
-Oh, and there's also a new logo when you start up your phone : SONY ONLY not Sony Ericsson, and in its ever-so-recognizable font style. =P
-The Sony Ericsson Liquid Logo has also been changed to Walkman, with a bubbly and quirky animation.
-Ill try to post screenies if I can.
-Greatly Improved Android Browser. Seriously, It's WAAAAYYY smoother than the one in GB.
-The Browser runs smoother than GB.
-Websites with heavy flash content load smoothly. =D
-Saved Pages Option to view pages offline.
    - Only Android provides true multitasking capabilities.
    - Hold the Home Button and you will be taken to this new recent/running apps tab. Swipe to the right and that app is closed. =D!!!
    -Widget Preview.
    - A NEW Gallery aside from the Xperia Gallery. The new gallery provides edit options. Like Picsart or Instagram or Adobe Photoshop Express. So, if you want to save some precious memory, stick with the gallery editing options =D
-HD playback still smooth as ever. I don't know what the fuss is all about. =P
-Images look fine as they did in gingebread. It really depends on shooting situations.
-Captured 720p HD Videos doesn't lag for me. Play back is smooth. Same as in gingerbread.
-Maybe, People are just not used to the new interface, but with a little bit of tinkering, you should get used to it in no time. =P
-The New Camera Interface. It now includes a dedicated on screen camera button.
-Captured Photos Quality are the same as in Gingerbread.
-Captured 720p HD Videos run as smooth as in Gingerbread.
    - The New YouTube App interface.
    - The Lockscreen Music Player
    - There was a review about not seeing the clock due to the music player. Duhhh, you can see it at the upper right corner. =P
    - I love how the album art and the album name also appears. If you are like me who converts songs from youtube to mp3. A little app called Tune Wiki can help you edit its tags so you can enable infinity view. =D
-The New Dial Pad, which provides Smart Dialing.
-About the lagginess issue. It takes about 2-3 seconds to start. It depends on how many entries you have in your call log.
-There's a workaround on it though, access it through Contacts.
    - RAM usage feels the same for me. Good Job on this one Sony. =D
    - I was really worried about RAM ever since I read Sony's article about GB and ICS. They did well on optimizing this one.
    - My screenshot is not the best there is since I was syncing Facebook inside Xperia. But, normally it has about 180mb used and 160mb free.
    - New APPS installed. Some apps like Wisepilot for Xperia can now be moved to SD card, thereby freeing more phone memory.
    - My New Homescreen. It retains the very convenient four corner bubbles.
    - 5 Widget Panes
    - A New Google Search Widget
    - Walkman Player. I was expecting the music player from the NXT series. Hehe, but I guess this will have to do. =D
    - I've never seen the refresh music library option even in the GB walkman player. Through experience, everytime I add a music file it gets added in real time. No refresh required...
    - Oh, and also... I think the speaker is a tad bit louder than before. Like 20% louder. I noted no distortions
    - The orange lights work as usual.
    - Still no customizable equalizer. This is a walkman phone. It has to have superb music customization capabilities. =P
    - Battery usage for me remains the same like in GB.
-Monster Use/Heavy Gaming : 4 hours (HD games cracked for HVGA screens i.e. Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Need for Speed, Shadowgun, Dead Space)  Although I doubt you could play that long due to the screen size and the cramps you may get from playing. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome anyone? Haha.
    -Internet Browsing : 6-8 hours
-Video Playback using Stock Player and YouTube App : 6-8 hours
-Video Playback using MX player : 4-6 hours (I use it for my .avi files)
    - I use Easy Battery Saver to Optimize battery performance.
In Super Mode it can last up to 24-36 hours with only texts and calls which I think is pretty impressive. I can go on 16 hour hospital shifts without worying about charging my phone.
In Normal Mode it can last 8-10 hours.
-It really depends on how you use your phone. I strongly believe it greatly varies with every user.
    - Don't believe posts that say it doesn't run as smooth as GB. IT RUNS AS SMOOTH AS GINGERBREAD. EVEN BETTER. =P
    - Sleeker new user interface.
    - All of my apps and games still run smoothly on ICS. I'll keep searching for bugs.
    - The ROBOTO font is awesome.
    - I find the interface more intuitive and streamlined than GB.
    - Lots of new features implemented. i.e. Smart Dialing, Face Unlock, Performance Assistant
    - Icons have been remodeled.
    - I also love how fluid it is now when it switches screen orientation. =D!!
    - No bugs for me whatsoever.
    - I miss the quirkiness of the GB user interface. Like the transparency of the messaging app. But I guess, I have to move on, change is for the better.
    - A SOLID AND STABLE UPGRADE. NOW MY XPERIA LIVE IS COMPLETE.
    Problems:
-Yes, the LED SMS notification doesn't work. But all other LEDs work. i.e. Yahoo Messenger, Incoming Calls, Twitter. I guess they may have overlooked this one. It's the only problem that I see. I find it livable still. Greater good for the greater number of people =P
-THANKS TO SONY!!! A huge step on the right direction.
    -KIMOZAVE - NOOBIE SMARTPHONE USER

hi kimozave, ur review seems to be full of praises for ICS, but I have gone through many threads on disadvantages of ICS, so very much confused if I should go with ICS update or not....
can you plz tell how was is experience on:
    1. Dial pad - I have read its laggy.
    2. The phone is having a hard time authenticating wifi connection when using WPA encryption.
    3. Thumbnails in the gallery does not match the original picture.
    4. Phone dies at 10% battery remaining.
    5. SIM card keeps ejecting
    6. Camera is more laggy and image quality is poorer
    Thanks,

  • Slow performance since going to Mavericks on aging iMac

hi & thanks in advance: Wondering if my newly sluggish performance, SPODs etc since upgrading to Mavs (10.9.2) from 10.6.8  =  its time to upgrade my machine (late '07 iMac i think). I'd just install more RAM but seems my 4gig is its ceiling? Activity Monitor shows that now even just running one or 2 apps at a time is pushing things. Ran the nifty EtreCheck (see below).
I'm a Veetle watcher, wondering if their ancient 1.0 mac plugin is no good w/Mavs?
    Here's what's happening:
    - iPhoto now SPODs for about 30 secs after launch, but then all's well once that stops. (btw when I go offline/disconnect the modem's firewire to test run apps, there's no SPOD-ing.)
    - GBand 10, all's fine except when playing live e.guitar getting intermittent glitches in its audio (old Tascam FireOne firewire I/O, no way to update its driver since they abandoned the FireOne ages ago.)
    - VERY slow app launches all around, especially after first morning start up. Chrome pages loading 5x slower than before on 10.6.8; some streaming slow downs, esp. on Netflix which takes Silverlight like a minute now to load up a show;
    - Activity Monitor: I'm at like 3.5-3.9 of my 4G with just a coupla apps running at a time.
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - Disk Utility repair permissions
    - reset PRAM (before reading here that's not a good idea anymore)
    - did a full Time Machine restore (    "                 "               " )
    - disabled all but one start up item, a Native Instruments helper type app I wasn't sure about
    - cleared some caches, can't remember which (per a 10-star user here on improving performance)
    - Deleted tons of old/unneeded apps and files, my boot drive now less than half full.
    - uninstalled several third-party plugins
    - thinned out my iPhoto library extensively, still the same SPOD after launch; then reindexed the thumbnails.
    - Sophos Anti-Virus Mac Home, turned off all realtime updating/scanning (left its web page/content realtime filter on though)

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Cannot delete playlist from Walkman

Hi - Just got a Z1 compact and went to put my micro sd card from my old phone into the sony. Everything is fine except i cannot delete playlists from the My Playlists section of Walkman. The playlists have no content in them, i can't add content to them, and i can't delete them. How do i get rid of them???? Suspect they have to be on the SD somewhere but cannot find them by searching the name or the file type .m3u. Any idea how i find and delete these ghost playlists?? thanks in advance!

Hi, I'd just like you to know that havin already tried EZ File Manager and manual deletion via USB I still couldn't delete certain non-working tracks from the Walkman app, and although I thought your advice seemed potentially dangerous, I tried it as you're a moderator so I trusted it was some 'combination' that was safe. Anyway, long story short I wiped all the media on my phone and SD, of which there was plenty, amassed over a lot of time (the music in particular). If I can't retrieve backups of the music, I'll be very angry with you. (The photos and videos were mostly backed up recently). I don't know if this was some weird, cruel joke for frustrated clueless phone users (not thinking straight late at night, in my case) but if it was, you've caused me to delete everything, and I hope you're happy with yourself. -Feargal
