I'm wondering if this is a normal condition or something to be worried about.

You should allow good air circulation to prolong its lifespan, and I don't think keeping it under your blankets is a great idea
I have worked with electrical engineers, who have introduced me to the concept of a .6 (60%) safety factor. This means that in any design, you include tolerances more than 60% above what is required for safety. I have no double Apple has done this too. This means things like if your device will spontaneously combust at 500 degrees, make it break at 250 degrees, and the like.
The only time you need to be really worried is with goods that are counterfeit (like some Apple batteries and power supplies from eBay). The rest of the time, you're likely to find very good safety factors in them

Power Supply TOO HOT

Can anyone tell me the acceptable range for an operating temp in a 450 watt power supply? I have an Antec 450W and it runs around 56 degrees celcius. Speed fan tells me it's too hot. Is there anyway I can cool it down? Thanks.

Too hot to touch

My PowerBook often gets too hot to touch on the bottom. Is that because of a faulty battery? My batteries' serial numbers don't match those of the recall.

It's possible the heat is coming from something other than the battery. 3rd party RAM or defective RAM will commonly cause overheating problems. Try to figure out exactly where the heat is on the bottom and run the diagnostics suggested in the other thread.

45w power supply getting hot

When I plug my 45w power supply into the extended cable it brick gets incredibly hot. When I plug it directly into the wall with the 2 prong plug it does not get as hot.
Any suggestions as to what is going on?

It will also depends on WHEN you are checking the brick. If you check the brick after say, you have been watching Netflix movies FULL screen for the last 2 hours, it will likely be more hot than it would if you were just surfing around the internet. Also, it would be warmer if it was currently charging the battery as opposed to JUST powering the computer. It shouldnt matter if it is the long cable or the direct plug. Last, define HOT? What you consider HOT may not be hot at all to me. It is a completely subjective thing. Obviously if it is so hot that you cannot touch it, that is a different story.

Satellite P55W-B5318 Power Supply Very Hot

I purchased a Satellite P55W-B5318 yesterday. While charging the laptop the power brick got very hot, too hot to handle for more than a few seconds. The model number of the power supply is PA5177U-1ACA. I read Toshiba has replaced some power supplies which ran hot. Should I request a new power supply?

You should call Tech Support at 1-800-457-7777 immediately. It should only get warm to the touch. But the best thing to do is take it back where you bought it for an exchange.

Power supply really hot!

I know there are a couple of bad caps inside my G5 PS, but I am waiting for the new caps to come from Digikey which should be here soon.
When I was testing it out I had the iMac G5 open and laying flat on a soft cloth towel.
Now everything inside was warm to the touch nothing really jumping out at me as being too hot. That is until I touched the power supply. No I didn't get burned as my reflexes are still pretty good.
Now my question is, even with the caps after they are replaced, should the power supply be this hot or will it cool down to a safe handling temperature?
I am thinking about doing the mod with adding the fan(s) (2 - 80mm or 1- 120mm) for the CPU and possibly adding a new mod to put 3-4 small 30mm to 40mm fans on the back of the iMac near the power supply at the bottom of the iMac G5 to draw the heat out. I do not want to push air in as that would just heat up the inside of the iMac. So the way the PS is made, it would pull air from the bottom and exhaust it out the back.

The power adapter has several internal protective circuits, including over-temperature. If the temperature gets too high, the power adapter will shut itself off. When charging, the power adapter should be on a hard, flat surface to assure proper air flow.

Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

Hello All,
I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.

Simple answer, no its not normal
The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro - Power Supply too small?

I'm having a problem with my Powercolor 9700 Radeon Pro. My system will simply not power when i plug this video card in (no power supply start, no posting beeps, nothing).
The 9700 pro card I have will work fine on another PC that I have with a lesser power supply and lesser cpu so I know the card is ok. My Geforce3 card works fine in the new 865PE computer, so it seems the MSI board/AGP slot is ok.
I've tried unplugging all peripherals (HDDs, CD, DVD drives) and still no power up when the 9700 is plugged into the power supply.
My system consist of:
MSI 865PE Neo2 FISR(v1.7)
P4, 2.8, 800fsb
512MB Corsair XMS Twinx (2 256MB sticks)
2 HDD (Western Digital, 60 & 120GB)
DVD/CD drive
CD-RW drive
Soundblaster live
2 internal case fans
360w PS
Stats for power supply:
+5v - 35A
+12v - 17A
+3.3v - 28A
Bios settings:
CPU BUS (FSB) - 200
AGP Voltage - 1.5
PCI/AGP speed (PCI clock) - 66.33/33.33

AGP setting - (if this is the 4x/8x setting, I can't find a way to change it)

I've tried upping the AGP voltage to 1.6 and I have disabled cacheing.
I read that some folks have recommended setting the AGP down to 4x, although for the life of me, I cannot find a way to do that in bios or anywhere else.
Does this power supply sound acceptable? Do the 9700's draw their power off the 12v circuit? If this PS is weak, then what +12v amp. should I aim for?
Does anyone have any ideas of any of issues that might cause my system to not power up like this?

I did try upping the AGP voltage to 1.6v while only having the the 9700 card attached to the power supply. Same result, no power-up what so ever.
The other computer's video drivers are were the standard windows vga drivers. I don't think that really is a problem since I can't get the computer/power supply to even come on, let alone load windows.
What baffles me is that I have a geforce3 agp card that works fine in the neo2, and the 9700 works fine in another computer. Other then the power supply, or a problem/setting with the mainboard, I can't imagine what the problem is. The thing is, I don't want to shell out $100 for a power supply until I know that'll fix it.

Droid Razr - too hot to touch

Having several issues with my Droid RAZR, purchased in June 2012. Current Android Version 4.1.2, Build Nbr 9.8.20-72....
Main issues are:
Battery life - stays plugged in all day & takes about an hour to go from 100% battery to about 65% battery. It's under 50% at 2 hours after being unplugged & is around 20% within 3 hrs.
Overheating is a problem. When not in use (and simply in a shirt pocket) it gets to the point of being uncomfortably hot. Temp in a battery app is between 42-45 C. If I use it for streaming audio, it gets too hot to hold. Heat is also up during any phone activity at all.
Drops in & out of 4G/3G constantly & is much more apt to drop that coverage down to 1x than ever before.
Also notice that the GPS flashes in & out more often recently than before.
Not sure exactly when the update to JellyBean was rolled out to me, but I have had more of these issues in the last 90 days than I did prior to that. I know that within the last 30 days other Verizon users with Droids have told me about abnormal power consumption on virtually all apps on their phone.
Using Advanced Task Killer v1.9.7 & have it set to autokill = crazy and interval = when screen off. Apps set to ignore are Gmail, a Craigslist app, Weather and Calendar. Everything else I have set to kill. Even with those apps, it is still warm to the touch.
Nothing I've done thus far has seemed to help curb the unusual power consumption on my Razr. I've cleared the cache on it several times, and it seems to have curbed the constant heat issue, but not the spikes in temperature that went unnoticed before.
I don't want to do a factory reset on it if I can avoid it, but would if it were the only resort.
Any ideas what else to try?

1. First thing Get rid of the Task Killer that can for sure cause the Heating as the ( Task Killer ) is constantly fight the Apps,
It is now uninstalled. I had installed it when I noticed that the Android OS was using a disproportionate amount of the system resources (over 50%).
2. try running the phone in Safe Mode you could have some apps causing the issue as well
I will give this a try. Most apps I notice take 3% or under of power consumption. The big ones are screen (30 second timeout), Android OS (as of now, they are about 70% of the power consumption) and Wi-Fi (at home). Android System takes only slightly more than the most heavy power consuming app.
Outside of the task killer, I had only installed updates to apps over the last month or so. I just booted it into Safe Mode & it got noticeably hot in the center after about 5 minutes.
3. And have you done a System Cache Clear in say the last couple of Months if not i would definitely try that
Yes, several times in the last week or so (Power off, then Vol + and Vol - and Power ), select Recovery,then select wipe cache partition & then reboot).
4. with a follow up of a Factory Reset
I had wanted to avoid doing that unless as an absolute last resort, since I have so many pictures, files, and other things saved on the phone.

Yes (at home). In the vehicle, I am using a charger I purchased from Verizon when I got this phone. At work, I use an AC Charger that was also purchased from Verizon.

Sometimes my power supply gets hot

I have the newest MacBook Pro 15 with the 2.5 Ghz Intel i7. I've noticed that sometimes my power transformer gets pretty when charging the laptop. Other times it doesn't get warm at all. Why would this happen? Is there something wrong with it?

I have the exact same notebook as you.
I'm not sure that this is true, but I think that this depends on the difference in charge.
For example-- as charge from (100% - 40% = 60%) requires more time, it may heat up.
whereas, a charge up 10% won't heat up as much.

Laptop Gets Too Hot To Touch....

My four year old Power Book G-4 gets so hot on the bottom at the cover to the RAM compartment, that I can't keep my hand on the cover. This has gotten worse over the years, and I'm wondering if the cooling fan (is there one?) has gone bad, or is there another reason?
Any ideas.....?

Boot up from your install DVD and select hardware test, it will rev up the fans, you should be able to hear them spinning as it goes through the test. This will also tell you if something is wrong.
If I remember correctly, hold down the option key as you boot with the DVD in the drive to use hardware test.

MI424WR Coax Too Hot To Touch

Today I went to reset my MI424WR today (because it hadn't been reset in a while and the firewall page had hundreds of UPnP entries) and accidently touched the coax adapter. Normally I wouldn't have even noticed, because as I recall, it never was even warm at all, but this time it was burning hot! Do I need a new router? (Also, this is a revision C.)

I am pretty sure that it should never be "noticeably hot" it always gets warm, it's electronics but definetely not "hot" it is well ventilated right?
as long as it's well ventilated then you may want to call in for a possible replacement, warm is ok, but never "hot"

Battery Life is short and when i do charge the power supply gets to hot to touch?

Hi! I'm not sure whats Wrong with my MacBook Pro 15" - Mid 2010, i7, 4gb RAM, 512mb Graphics.
When i charge my MB it has a really short life (50 - 60 min) without using high demanding programs. I've had a look in system information and i found this; Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4858
im not sure what it should be but does it sound like a healthy battery?
My second question, the power supply is hot to touch is this a contributing factor? I took it in to apple and they suggested to buy a new charger, so £65 later and i still have the overheating of the power supply and the short battery life problems, HELP!

That is not a good sign. Check the connection on the MBP to see if there is any foreign matter or discoloration evident.
Open System Information>Power and post this from your MBP:

Also run an Apple Hardware Test. You may use the appropriate original install disk for this which has the AHT instructions printed on it.
Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

MacBook Pro Retina power supply is surprisingly hot

The power brick seems to get a lot hotter than my previous MacBook Pro power supplies. Anyone else noticing this?

Just got my new 2013 retina MPB, and the powersupply is charging the battery in the MPB at an amazing rate (faster than 1% per minute) but holy Hephaestus batman that power brick gets lava-hot.
This is my 10th Mac laptop (personal) and none of the other power supplies have ever heated up like this. Other Mac laptop power supplies got very hot but never too hot to touch. This retina power supply, at the temp it was at earlier today, would cause burns if left on skin. So hot I am concerned about the plastic melting. Will check but I would not be surprised if when all the lights are off there isn't a slight glow to this lava powered adaptor.
My retina seems to love it and it does not get hot in the least. As i typed this message, the charge went from 40% to 67%. (freekin awesome) and the power supply is very warm but hot yet.
I cannot help but wonder if this is not related to the powersupply on house wiring with the reversed phase... My brick does not get hot all the time and not everywhere I plug it in.

The power supply is hot-swappable. In some configurations, such as full PoE+ or power sharing mode, removing a power supply causes powered devices to shut down until the power budget matches the input power of a single power supply.
