Wallpaper wont change

Hi. As a lurker of /wg/, I have amassed quite a large collection of wallpaper sized pictures. But when I try to selent my wallpaper folder (which various folders inside containing the images), the wallpaper wont change at all, and I cant see the images in the wallpaper folder window in my desktop tab of the system preferences. Is there some size limit to the folder than can be chosen for desktop backgrounds or is something wrong with my computer?

If I understand you correctly.. your are trying to set a folder to use for random Desktop Images.
In Desktop prefrences, click the + button and navigate to the folder you wish to use and click OK. The new item will be to the bottom in the Folders list.
Note that the OS will only use images in that folder, not folders contained inside that folder, in formats it can read.
If you have a folder that is organized with sub folders, then you will indeed see nothing as a preview.
This same method works for Screen Saver as well!

Close the settings app and reboot your iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that didn't resolve the problem, try Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but all of your device settings will have to be entered again and that will take some time to complete.

My wallpaper STILL wont change!

I first encountered this problem in Mavericks and I tried a couple of the methods on forums, I was hoping with Yosemite this would reset the whole thing but is still the same wallpaper as before and wont change. This wallpaper isn't one of the apple wallpapers, it is one I changed to and now it wont change.. This is extremely irritating as I have been looking at this rubbish wallpaper for soooo long and I would LOVE it if anyone has a solution to my problem..

Already tried this? I cannot seem to update my desktop image. It keeps defaulting to the galaxy one. Anyone know how I can solve this. The image is showing up in preferences under desktop but not changing on my desktop.

Apple wont change my iPad with a bad screen :( Anything I can do?

Today I received an email from apple that says my iPad "meets apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality" even though it has a giant piece of dust under the screen (not the wallpaper, it's there when the screen is off). I am really upset about this especially considering all I've gone through to get a good one: I first got my iPad from the apple online store at the end of may, and noticed it had dust under the screen which made it look like a dead pixel. I'm in San Angelo and the closest store is in San Antonio, 194 miles away. I'm also on training status on the Air Force (Goodfellow AFB) and getting out of the base is extremely hard. I finally got permission and found somebody to lend me their car last week, and so I headed on the ridiciously long trip. After arriving to the La Cantera Parkway store I went in and they exchanged it for a refurbished one. When I go back to the base I see that it has a giant piece of dust under the screen on the lower right and is scratched on the upper left and on the dock connector. So i just wasted more than $100 on a trip for nothing. I call apple customer service and they say they will send me a box to ship it to them. I receive it and then I get my roommate to do it, because it's basically impossible for me because I can't bring mail to the facility where I am trained, and I can't just go where I want on the weekdays, and the only time I can actually walk around the base, on after duty hours, the post office is closed. Today I received two emails: one that says they received the iPad and another a few minutes ago saying it meets their performance so they wont change it. I can't even talk to customer service because they are closed and I cant in the morning because I have to wake up at 3:50am and cant have my cellphone till 5:00pm, by that time they'll have shipped it. This is really frustating, is there anything I can do? I'm thinking to sell it at a loss since exchanging it is just a giant hassle.

Have you tried to call them again sometime? Try to express your anger about the issue and force them to find you a solution. I think Apple is nice and they do listen to their customers. You can always request to talk to their supervisor/manager. I am sure they will listen and find you a solution.
I was once succesful at nagging them to exchange my Macbook Pro faulty logic board (which costs about $2000AU) even my waranty is expried (2 years after I bought my MBP). And yes, they did it for me, really nicely.

If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.

- Go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

well i installed ebuddy 1.5 and started using it happily ..untill i decided to put my picture there as a test ..to see if it works.. . it worked and i saw the pic and my contacts saw it too ( ..now i want to change it ..i dont want it there any more ..it wont change..even when i change it to another one and then closed the application and then opened it again ..there s my pic still there as if i didnt do any changes.
i deleted the pic from the phone ..where did it come from then ?? im going crazy .
i even tried uninstalling ebuddy and then installing it again ...but the problem s not solved
i tried using a dfferent version of e buddy (1.1) and stll ...the picture s there .

If you head to Settings -> General -> Date & Time is it set to Automatic? Head to Settings -> General -> International -> Calendars and make it is set to Gregorian.
It might not hurt to reset the iPod as well. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Wallpaper keeps changing back to default

I'm usually pretty good with my Mac, but I can't figure this one out, for the life of me.
I use my older model Macbook Pro for a media computer. It's hooked up to a surround receiver, by a DVI>HDMI cable and with the optical audio out on the laptop. The surround receiver then goes to my TV, which I use as a display (I keep the laptop closed).
Recently, I've done two new things to my setup:
1. changed the desktop around with Geektool (it now displays the time, date and a calendar)
2. bought a Logitech Harmony 1100 remote to control my media setup.
For some reason, whenever I change from the Macbook Pro to, say, my Xbox, when I come BACK to the Macbook Pro, the wallpaper has changed from what I've chosen to the default wallpaper (from when you first install OS X). When I restart the computer, everything works properly and the wallpaper is back the way it should be, but until then, no matter how many times I change the wallpaper from the 'default,' it always waits about a second and changes itself back.
To be clear, in the Desktop/Screen Saver settings, everything looks how it should look: the wallpaper that I want to be the wallpaper is still selected as the current wallpaper. When the picture on the actual desktop changes, nothing changes in the Desktop/Screen Saver Settings, which is what is so confusing to me. I can pick a wallpaper and have it show up for about a second, at which point the default wallpaper pops up on the desktop (meanwhile, the wallpaper I've selected is still the wallpaper selected in Desktop settings).
It's truly bizarre. I've tried using InsomniaX, to see if maybe there was something weird when the computer was going to sleep (when I change inputs on the surround receiver), but the problem still persists.
I've turned off Geektool and restarted Finder and nothing's happened and I can't imagine that the Harmony is sending a weird code that would make my computer's wallpaper change.
I did a PRAM reset and that didn't solve the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I suspect Geektool is the culprit. Did you have this problem prior to installing it. If not, then I suggest that you contact Geektool's manufacturer to see if they can come up w/some suggestions.
Have you tried any of the following?
Trashing the desktop.plist file & restarting your computer?
Repairing permissions and/or repairing your disk from the install DVD?

My screensaver wont change from its default setting despite me changing it multiple times. Ive restarted the machine, but doesnt help, any suggestions???
I have the brand new basic Mac Mini Quad Core i7, Mac OS 10.8
It goes to a password protected blank screen screensaver after 5 minutes or so.
Ive changed it in the screensaver in preferences to origami after 1hour, and its registered as such, but after 5 minutes it goes to blank screen screensaver again.
This is infuriating as I am trying to batch convert many MP4 files and when it screensaver it stops everything.

where "*" stands for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes. Select that file and open the Info dialog.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
What is the Modified date?

Screen brightness wont change

For my HP Pavilion 15-e017tx.
It was working fine till yesterday. But today when i tried to change screen brightness it wont change.
I did it from the special keys provided for it and also from the windows mobility center.
Tried to change the Power plan as well.
Restarting the system also didnt help.
Please let me know what to do about it.

If you are having issues with the functions keys, then check the settings in System Preferences > Keyboard and look to see if Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys is unchecked so you can use it properly.

Start with these tips if your iPad mini is stuck on "syncing" when you try to back it up:
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.
Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the accessory and connect the device to the computer using only the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cable.
If you have access to additional Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.
