Wallstreet (M4753) Won't Power-up!! (After PMU Reset)

Problem: The Wallstreet "died" (Screen slowly faded then power shut down) while I was trying to install a new IDE hard-drive. I have removed the hard-drive totally so I can focus on re-booting from DVD Drive. To restart I have tried:
1) The 4 key PMU reset command -- causes Wallstreet fan to run, LED blink, and then all stops.
THEN:
2) Holding the Power button down while holding "C," but doesn't produce any activity of drive, Processor, fan anything!
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Sumer,
If you do not have a startup chime, the powerbook's Start Manager is not passing its startup hardware test. Since the screen slowly faded and the powerbook shut down, I can only assume you have had a hardware failure.
This is what Apple recommends for a no-start (battery and power adapter can be eliminated as culprits):
Disconnect internal keyboard and try powering up unit. If unit powers up, replace keyboard.<<</div>
I would say this has zero possibility of being the failure. Performing a successful power manager reset usually eliminates the keyboard.
Verify that microprocessor card is firmly seated in connector.<<</div>
Replace sound card.<<</div>
This is the DC/sound card which has the power adapter port. Even if this fails, the battery should still power up the 'book. Also, if the battery charges, this card is probably OK.
Replace power supply card.<<</div>
Replace PMU card.<< </div>
Replace I/O logic board.<<</div>
Replace microprocessor card.<<</div>
I have no idea how the user tests for a failure in the last four components. If you really like your Wallstreet, you might spend $60-100 to have someone diagnose it, then buy/replace the parts yourself.

  • Aluminium iMac won't power up after shutdown

    Hello All,
I have bought a 20" aluminium iMac for my parents a couple of weeks ago. It went extremely well in the first few days, but I got the complaint from my parents that it cannot power up after the proper shutdown.
It is very strange that it won't power up after it has been shutdown for a couple of hours, unless I unplug the power cord and plug it back in after a minute or so (reset the SMC)
Oppositely, I can power it up normally right after it has been shut down for a few minutes. But never overnight.
I have tried everything I know about like reset SMC and PRAM, as well as running apple diagnostic. Symptom still persist (though the diagnostic says nothing wrong with my hardware)
Is there anyone facing the same problem as me ?
    Thanks
    Jimmy

    Thanks Guys.
I haven't called Applecare yet. However, I have reinstall the system and done a software update EXCEPT the latest imac software update v1.1 released recently.
See if anything good happen tomorrow and will let you guys know
by the way, it's really great that Mac retains everything including the Apps and Desktop setting after the reinstallation......... nothing has to reinstall except the OS itself

  • Iphone won't power on after screen replacement

So I've dropped my Iphone 4S once and screen showed blue vertical lines. I replaced the screen for about $120. After 6 months or so I dropped it again and the screen cracked. I decided to replace the screen on my own so I got a new one and replaced it, but the phone doesn't power on after the screen replacement. I plugged it on charger, did a hard reset but still nothing. I plugged it on pc and it was recognized by the itunes! As it was plugged on pc, I did a reboot again and it left itunes as if it was powered on and suddenly powered off. Still plugged in I tried to power it on again, it was recognized again by the itunes but the screen still wasn't working. Another thing is that it burns a lot without even being on charger or on pc, and I need to take the battery off.

Sorry. There's not much we can suggest. Apple won't touch that phone now.
Try looking for advice someplace like ifixit.com.

  • Won't power on after checking battery for exchange program

This is so silly its not even funny.
I simply shutdown my 12" 1.5Ghz power book. Took the battery out to read the serial number, which by the way is one of the faulty ones. Then put it back in and now it won't power on.
Pressing the power button does nothing. Battery is fully charged, with AC connected it has the green light. Trying to power on with only battery, only AC has no effect. Resetting PMU, NVRAM unsuccessful.
Help! What could have possibly happened?
The warranty expired in May but I'm confident if I didnt have to check the battery I wouldn't be facing this problem. Do you think Apple will take pity on me?

If I have the battery out, if I hold the power button then when I plug in the AC I hear something like a capacitor discharging for about 2 seconds. Kinda like something spinning down.
    Ring any bells?

  • My mbp won't power up after update.

after running an app store update, (Xcode) my mbp won't power up and the battery lights are showing flat even though it was on charge over night.
the update was taking a long time, and it had a message saying something like deleting old files.
i went to bed and left it over night.
when i went back this mornng it had powered down, and the drained the battery even though it was plugged in.
now i can not power up, and i have tried the smc reset.
    please help.
    many thanks.

This is the standard Apple support article for your situation.  If you cannot try another adapter to try, I suspect a trip to an Apple store genius bar is in your future.

  • Rand new iPhone 5s black, dead, won't power up after ios 7 upgrade...held down top button, held down home button...dead. Was fully charged, working fine tell said yes to upgrade. HELP!!!

Brand new  iPhone 5s dead, black won't come on after ios update...is fully charged, was working fine till said yes to upgrade. Did not watch process beyond seeing Apple logo appear, left it alone, came back, dead. Tried holding top button, tried home button, nothing...HELP!!!

If iTunes does not recognize your iPhone even if it’s plugged in, you may need to put it into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. If you have to put the device in DFU mode, you will most likely be unable to back it up.
Hold Power button for 3 seconds and then the Power and Home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
Release Power but keep holding home until the your iPhone shows up in iTunes.

  • KT3v MS6712 System Won't power up after RAM upgrade

hello this is my first posting to this forum and I hope someone might be able to help on this as I am totally stumped.  I have been running my KT3V MS6712 mobo with 256MB since it was built. The manual for this mobo says it can handle up to 3GB RAM in any order or size. I have 3 DIMM slots and thought it would be more cost effective to just
purchase 1 DIMM leaving the other 2 slots free.  So I decided to  upgrade to 1GB and I bought a Kingston 1Gb PC2100 266MHz DIMM and installed it on my system.  Now my system won't power on at all. When I press the power button on the PC, the CPU fan spins for like 1-2 seconds then stops.  The system appears to be completely dead.  Cos I thought the problem was down to the new RAM installation I thought better put my old 256 DIMM back, however I still get the same problem. I have tried swopping both DIMMS into different slots but still doesn't work. The system was working fine until I did the RAM upgrade. I tried resetting the CMOS by moving the jumpers around in case it was a BIOS issue, still hasn't made a difference. Dunno if its the PSU which has suddenly gone, however seems strange. There are no beeps from the system or lights flashing to indicate anything.  I don't have
the D-Bracket installed either. I have also never upgraded the BIOS on this system as it has always been stable. The CPU is not overclocked. Has anyone had this problem before after a RAM upgrade?  Hope I have given you enough information

Suntek is perhaps not the best of PSU makers, but a sudden collapse is not so common. You normally notice problems earlier.
I took a big beating last time I said this , but it is important that there is no power in the system when changing memory sticks.
It sounds a bit like the processor went away for holiday. Have you any data on the processor temperature? Is there any activity at all? Does the processor heat sink get warm?

  • Airport won't power up after updates 5.5.2 and 7.5.2

I updated this afternoon via Software Update: Airport Utility (to v. 5.5.2) and Airport Extreme firmware (to v. 7.5.2). Everything seemed fine, noticed no problems and later I shut down my main computer for the day.
When my wife came home later, she couldn't get an Airport connection on her MacBook Pro. In the process of troubleshooting, I went back to the Base Station and found it was off (no light at all). It simply won't power up at all. Unplugged it, replugged it, etc.
Seems like too much of a coincidence that my unit would have just flat-out died after these updates.
    Anybody know what's up?

Thanks Bob, I'm afraid you're right. I didn't know that a firmware update could fry hardware like this! It's just too much of a coincidence to be a... well, coincidence. (Especially now that I see all the other people having problems today after this update.)
I've also reported the issue to Apple via the link you posted in another thread: http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportextreme.html

  • Ibook won't power up after power outage

Help! I had a quick power outage last night and now my ibook g4 won't even turn on. I have nothing from it. The battery lights come on. The charging light from the adapter is on when plugged in. The computer was on a surge protector and all other electronics attached to the same surge protector still work with no problem. There is NO response from the computer at all...not a peep.

    Hi doggiesam,
I've had a couple of instances of this kind of thing, though admittedly not related to power outages. Try holding the power button down for several seconds, like 5-10 seconds, waiting a moment and then pressing the power button again in the usual way.
If that doesn't work try a PMU reset:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off. (Again make sure that it is really off my pressing and holding the power button as above)
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook
Let us know how things go.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • Neo2-FR won't power up after sitting for ~3+ standby - if less, it does power up

    Hi all,
I had my Neo2-FR for about three months and have been working well going into standby (S3) and restarting by pressing the power button, until last week when I replaced the CPU fan with 120mm Scythe Kama PWM fan.  I don't know why a fan would prevent the PC from Powering On, so I'm baffled.  Even more bizarre, it works fine if when the PC goes into standby and brought back up in less than 3 hours or so (an estimated number).  So, this mainly happens when I go to bed at night, I press the standby key on my keyboard and the PC goes into the S3 state.  When I wake up the next morning, I press the power button to wake the PC and NOTHING - no boot, no power.  I have to unplug the power cord and leave it out for few minutes and plug it back in and then everything works fine again.  Here are the details.  Please help!!!
    My PC Spec.
Mobo:  Neo2-FR (v1.2) BIOS Ver 1.85 (beta) - This hasn't changed.  It was working fine before the PWM Fan.
    Video:  ATI HD2600XT 256MB DDR3
    PS:  Antec EA-500 (500w)
OS:  XP Pro SP2 & Vista Ultimate (dual boot)
CPU:  Q6600 B3 (333x9) 3.0Ghz - 1.325v (this is the same as before the Fan)
Heatsink:  Tuniq Tower with 120mm fan with fan control (comes with the HS).  I replaced the fan with above mentioned Scythe Kama PWN fan and the problem started.
Memory:  Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 (2GBx2).  The setting is at SPD - 800Mhz, but voltage is set to 1.9v
    HDD:  2x500GB Samsung 501LJ in RAID 0
    DVD RW:  NEC DVD-RW
Everything is exactly the same for HW, SW, and BIOS setting before and after the PWM fan install, except for the following.
    1.  Replaced the Tuniq's stock 120mm fan (3 pin header with rear mounted fan control) with Scythe Kama PWM Fan 120mm.
    2.  When the fan was replaced, I changed the following BIOS Setting:
        a) H/W Monitor Menu:  Enabled "CPU Smart Fan Target" and set it to 40C
        b) Set the "CPU Min.FAN speed (%)" to "50%"
Only weird the that existed from the very beginning, but I never follow-up since the PC worked fine is the LED Status Indicator (LED3).  The manual (on page 2-23) states the the LED3 "lights when system is on standby mode", but on my board, this light is always on.  Doesn't matter if the PC is ON or STANDBY or OFF.  As long as the power cable in plugged in, the light is on.  Also, the light never changes color - it's always red.  Is this normal?
This is really difficult to troubleshoot since I have to wait 5 hours or more to see if my changes fix the issue.  So far, I've changed various setting in the BIOS, but nothing helps.  To be honest, I'm not sure what to try.
Thanks in advance for the help everyone!
UPDATE:  I've given up on BIOS setting and switched from fan header from the 4pin CPU to Sysfan5 (spins a full rpm with no fan control) and the PC boots fine.  So, I guess by next step is buy another PWM fan to rule out the fan.  If the 2nd PWM fan does the same thing, can I assume the motherboard is defective?  Or is this a bug?  Just to be sure, I'll leave the fan connected to Sysfan5 over night tonight.
UPDATE2:  This morning, the PC booted just fine when the Kama PWM fan was connected to the a sysfan5.
If someone is using the stock CPU HS and Fan which uses 4pin PWM fan and they're able to use S3 (sleep and wake) properly, please post.  If so, I can assume the motherboard is defective.

I made what I consider the dumbest of all mistakes in that I did not "correctly" follow instructions. I knew that I needed to unplug the unit to let it "reset", but I failed to completely disconnect all the components. The unit was obviously getting some trickle from the battery in the router that also controls my phone. The lesson here is that when you disconnect the power to let it reset, be sure that it is completely disconnected. Lesson Learned! Thanks for the help.

  • Dv7 3085dx won't power on after adding 2nd hard drive

I'm attempting to add a 2nd drive to my laptop (dv7 3085dx). The drive is a Seagate Momentus 750GB drive (ST9750420AS). I purchased the drive caddy and connector from Newmodeus. The laptop will not power on after the drive is installed in the 2nd bay. Everything is fine if the drive is disconneted.
    Any ideas?

Are you absolutely sure you got the right caddy and cable from newmodeus? They sell several different ones for the dv7 series and they look similar but are not compatible with each other. I understand the reluctance to try hot-plugging it.
