Wallstreet + Wireless + OS 9

Hi guys,
I have just bought a Powerbook Wallstreet, and am wondering what Wireless PCMCIA cards will work in OS 9, as looking on eBay only brings up Windows compatible ones and Sonnettechs own one says it only supports OS X.
So what cards can people suggest?
TIA
Craig

Craig,
Yes, the Orinoco Silver will work just fine. The Silver has 64-bit WEP encryption and the Orinoco Gold has 128-bit.
Here is just a brief overview of encryption:
http://css.psu.edu/news/nlfa03/hotoffwire.html
WEP encryption. WEP stands for "Wired Equivalent Privacy," and is a method of encrypting the packets passing between wireless clients and the access point so that potential spies will have a hard time looking at what's in your network traffic. Note that I said "have a hard time," and not "can't." WEP encryption can be broken (though it's by no means a trivial task). For the average home user, it's pretty unlikely that anyone would bother investing the considerable time and effort required to eavesdrop on you, but you should be aware that even the best current wireless encryption isn't 100% spy-proof.
There are two commonly-used types of WEP encryption, 64-bit and 128-bit. These refer to the lengths of the encryption key supplied by the user. (As a side note, you will also see references to "40-bit" keys. They are functionally identical to 64-bit keys, since the wireless hub itself supplies the extra 24 bits—which are called the initialization vector. Likewise, "128-bit" keys are actually 104 bits plus 24 bits of initialization vector. Aren't you glad you know that?)
You can think of these encryption keys as passwords (though they're actually quite a lot more than that) that you'll have to enter from your client machine each time you connect to the access point.
Creating these keys is often a baffling and frustrating process for the novice. Some access point setup utilities let you enter them as ordinary ASCII characters, while others want to see hex characters--requiring you to have a hex-to-ASCII conversion table (easily available with a quick web search) handy.
In either case, the number of characters is important. A 40/64-bit key is five ASCII characters. An example would be "R011$". A 128-bit key is thirteen ASCII characters, for example "MyC0mputerB0x". Obviously, the longer key is the harder one to crack.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the community in regards to the problems you are having with your new device.
I'm sure this isn't how you wanted your upgrade to go.
John Getzke gave some very helpful information and I was wondering if you were able to get the SIM swapped at a store? Are you still having problems with the device? If so, is there an error message or code?
I also want to provide the http://bit.ly/12OM9gd for future reference if you ever need it. I look forward to your reply so we can get you back on the world wide web.

  • Wireless USB Device not recognized by Mac OSX

Help! I just bought a Hawking Technology Wireless-G USB Adapter. I followed the directions carefully and installed the software from the CD, then I inserted the adapter into the USB port on my Mac, and... nothing happened! According to the directions, a window was supposed to pop up after going to (System Preferences --> Network) saying that another device has been recognized. It's like my USB ports have been disabled or something. Unfortunately, I don't have any other Mac-compatible computer stuff that plugs into USB ports, so I don't know if the problem is my computer or if the problem is the Wireless adapter. What can I do?

Wow... Mac OS X 10.3 technically is not even supported on that old PowerBook, if it's a "Powerbook G3 Series" (aka Wallstreet).
Actually, it's strange that it is called a +Powerbook G3 Series+ because that model only went up to 300 MHz speed. Does it have a built-in USB port?
My guess for why it doesn't work is because that wireless product may need to have USB 2.0 ports. If your PowerBook as USB ports built-in, they are USB 1.1 ports.

  • Os 10.2.8 drivers for lucent waveLAN/ieee wireless card

I can't believe I'm the first to ask this but my search came up empty.
I have a Wallstreet P3, 233Mhz, with OS 10.2.8 installed; repartitioning the drive erased 9.2.2, for which I have no install disks. I just got a Lucent waveLAN card from eBay that the system sees, now I need drivers. Can someone provide me with a link to the drivers for this card.
Perhaps they're already installed and I'm not doing something right to connect to the internet (I think I remember with 9.2 I had to tell the system to use either wireless or ethernet). Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Bryan

Well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then...
After a few hours and several dead-end drivers I tried ejecting the waveLAN card and installing it in the lower slot on the powerbook...and it worked. Sigh.
BTW, the driver from sourceforge seems to work great on Jaguar.

  • Wallstreet will not boot every time - Huh!? [scratches head]

So I just placed the hard drive in my Wallstreet Powerbook. Running G3 233 mHz, 320 megs Ram, OS 10.2.9. I reloaded all the software on the computer, everything worked great. So I installed the software for my PCMCIA Wireless card and USB card. It lock up a few times, but that's probably because I don't really have enough RAM. But ended up rebooting after that crash.
The next day I went to turn it on. It powered up but a blank screen popped up with a disk and a question mark on it.... So I put a OS 9.2 install disk in it to boot it off that. It took a few trys to get the computer to recognize the disk, but finally found it. I opened the start up disk and I can see my new hard drive. I choose that, and rebooted. No problems. I surfed the web and checked email. Everything worked fine, even the USB card.
So today I boot it up again and now It will not recognize the CD drive... I can not boot off either CD or hard drive. Have anyone ever had problems like this with their G3 Powerbook?

    Gauge,
Glad the replacement battery is working well.
The PRAM battery, actually called a rechargeable backup battery in powerbooks, has no reset. It is just a simple rechargeable battery without any electronics controlling it. Your Wallstreet is 9 years old and this battery may be losing its battle with Time.
Here is how the battery works and also how you can test it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30580
It is a major disassembly to replace this battery, so if having a charged main battery installed and/or always having the power adapter connected maintains your time/date, I would not be concerned about replacing the PRAM battery if it is dead.

  • Back in love with my Wallstreet

Well, after a year packed away in the wardrobe, I've dug out my Wallstreet II to bring it back to life for my 3 year old daughter. Wow, after tweaking here and there to get 10.4.x running on it via Xpostfacto (I know it's not supported, I'm just informing some owners that it is possible), and purchasing a new battery for UK£35 it's running just great Oh, I must mention that a few years ago I did add a PowerLogix G4 500Mhz upgrade, a 30GB HD and USB, FireWire and Wireless cards - seemed such a shame to let it RIP after spending all that money on it over the past 9 years.
Oh, and I just missed a 1.5Ghz G4 15" PowerBook on eBay this morning that went for £200 - that makes all of this work simply futile
    Oh well.

    Hi cornelius
We have 3 Macs in the house - a 2.1 Ghz G5 iMac, a 1Ghz G4 iMac and that upgraded Powerbook, and I'm with you - the difference is marginal for most uses (saying that, I wouldn't choose to use the PowerBook for work . But I'd like to see a HUGE difference in speed before I purchase a new one
    Cheers

  • VST expansion bay Zip drive fails in my Wallstreet

Would really appreciate some help solving this problem.
    G3 Wallstreet is: 266MHz, 256 MB RAM, 4 GB HD, 14" screen.
    OS is 9.2.2
This PB functions well with wireless and all apps including DVD player. Apple floppy drive works just fine in the right bay.
However, I cannot get the VST zip drive to work. Have tried both the original VST CD that came with the zip disk drive and a file downloaded from Version Tracker (labeled IomegaWare English 8.6 - 9.X). Both seem to load correctly and put a file in the Control Strip, Control Panels and Extensions. Yet, when I insert the zip drive the PB locks up except that I can move the cursor (cannot open files or open menus).
    Suggestions appreciated.
BTW, I also cannot install Acrobat Reader vs. 5. Starts to download the needed files and then hangs.

    Hi,
Tnx for your response to my request for help.
Unable to find the extension "Findit".
I am using the Iomega software downloaded from VersionTracker, not the files on the VST CD which came with the drive.
Followed your suggestion regarding only a single Iomega extension. So dumped Iomega firewire support, Iomega USB support and Iomega active disk engine. Retained the extension Iomega driver (84k file). Seemed logical.
Kept Iomega drive options control panel and the control strip file. Did restart.
RESULT: when VST drive inserted into the right bay totally froze PB until removed. When removed all is normal.
Next, removed all remaining Iomega files. Restart PB with VST drive inserted.
Able to use mouse to open folders and menus. But of course the VST drive is unable to load any zip disks. It is just a space filler.
Next reloaded all the Iomega files with the zip drive inserted into the right bay. BINGO! It worked normally and I was able to read zip disks.
But when I removed and reinserted the VST zip drive it returned to previous behavior and I was locked out of doing anything except just being able to move the cursor. And the Powerbook won't boot with the zip drive in the bay.
In fact it won't boot with the drive out unless I remove all power. Does this suggest the problem is not an extension conflict since no extension were loaded. Yet extensions must be a problem since when I removed all the Iomega files there was no problem booting.
    Your thoughts appreciated.
Let's hold off on Acrobat Reader until the VST issue solved.

  • Airport Extreme and Dlink dwl-2000AP+ as wireless client

    Hi,
i'm trying to let an old iMac G3 without any airport card, join an existing lan using an Airport Extreme as router, connecting an old D-Link access point configured as wireless client and connected via ethernet to the iMac G3. All my setup works fine if the wireless connection is open without encryption, but it won't work using any protection like WPA or WEP.
When the airport express wireless connection is protected via WPA, the dlink won't be present in wireless clients list panel. When i use WEP (with a password of 13 characters) i can see in the wireless clients list both the MAC address of the iMac's ethernet and of the dwl-2000AP+ etherenet. But the connection won't work.
I'm sure i'm not configuring right the DWL-2000AP+ wireless protection:
i can't understand if i can change the airport express WEP encryption to a 64 bits or to a 128 bit, if the WEP method used is with a shared key or not.
The only info i get from it to let the clients connect are the WEP ASCII plain-text 13 characters password and its conversion in HEX base.
I'm assuming, since the password is a 13 character, that in WEP encryption the Airport Extreme uses a 128 bits key, but, again, how i can understand if it is used in shared way or in open way?
And why the dlink AP that is WPA capable cannot connect as wireless client to the airport express when is using WPA/WPA2 Personal encryption?
I upgraded the DWL-2000AP+ to its latest firmware that (they sayd)fixes any issue with the wireless client mode on WPA or WEP protected connections.
Thanks in advance for any help given.
P.S.: sorry for my "broken" english
    Message was edited by: Rayced

Resolved by myself. It works only setting the Dlink dwl-2000AP+ wireless client connection (wireless pane in the admin control of it) as open with WEP 128bits and using as key an ascii password of 13 charcaters. The Airport Extreme's wireless encryption should be set as WEP, using the same password of 13 charcaters. I still can't uderstand why the WPA/WPA2 encryption wouldn't work since the Dlink dwl-2000AP is WPA capable.
Maybe it could be so because the Airport Extreme is WPA2 and at the first negotiation between it and the dwl-2000AP+, the Airport Extreme won't downgrade to WPA encryption? Does anybody else tried to connect a WPA wireless client to the Airport Extreme setup as WPA2/WPA Personal?
@wallstreet 04: try to setup your Airport Extreme's wireless encryption to WEP and use a 13 chars password, then do the same on the Dlink wireless client you are trying to connect to the base, i don't know how is its control panel but the wireless should be setup as open with WEP 128, as key use that 13 chars password you put in the Extreme's as WEP password. If in the Dlink WEP 128 bits key field you have to put an HEX value instead of the ASCII, you can get that from the Airport Utility from the menu BASE AIRPOT select PASSWORD NETWORK... (the one before the last choice that should be ADD WIRELESS CLIENT).
    I hope it will help.

  • Wallstreet PMU - Dead or Alive?

Greetings all. I recently received a Wallstreet (1998 Model M4753) from my mother-in-law with a known history of instability. The laptop that is. Mother-in-law and I are both Mac fanatics. Long term goal is to upgrade hard drive, add wireless and pass onto college daughter. The Wallstreet booted up ok, appeared to be stable. Did add some more memory (256M) on the top slot, and upgraded to OSX 10.2.8. All applications worked ok. But the unit would not reawake properly and had to be physically powered down (plugs out, battery removed). But it would boot up ok. After reading thru all the glorious postings on the Wallstreet, I determined that the internal PRAM battery was defunct. Went to PBFixit, and after building up some courage dove into the disassembly of the Wallstreet and replaced the PRAM. Amazing how they fit all those components into such a small package.
But now I appear to have fallen backwards. Wallstreet will not power up (no chimes, dark screen, no CD drive activity). Have tried all the power management reset suggestions multiple times (press/hold the four reset keys (shift-fn-ctrl-power) for 30 seconds both with battery in/out, AC plugged in/out), but to no avail.
Current status: Wallstreet does not respond to power up button. Press/hold the four reset keys (shift-fn-ctrl-power) for 30 seconds results in sleep light (?) glowing green constantly. Another brief press of the four reset keys (shift-fn-ctrl-power) turns the green light off
Replacing the old PRAM has no effect on the response. Have I killed the PMU?
But on the upside, can now dissasemble the Wallstreet to a bucket of bokts and piece parts in my sleep!
Would appreciate any help/suggestions on what to try next.
Thanks and Happy New Year TJJ

    TJJ,
    Good work...persistence does pay.
If your 8GB partition is not available for OSX (grayed-out), reduce the size to 7.8GB or so.
Your Wallstreet should have a fan:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/3.15.14.html
Apple did sell a "cacheless" 233MHz, but I am not sure how the Apple System Profiler reports it. If a Wallstreet has backside L2 cache that fails, I believe the Profiler reports it as "missing" or "0 K" or it is blank...just don't know. But there is no way to add L2 cache since it is soldered on the microprocessor card. You can, however, replace a cacheless 233MHz microprocessor card with a faster Wallstreet card but which card is compatible depends on your system bus speed. The first Wallstreet release had both a 66MHz or 83MHz bus speed; your Profiler will reveal its speed. Even a move to a 233MHz w/512K cache will give you a 70% speed boost over a cacheless 233 according to MacBench tests. The cards available are 233/250/266/292/300MHz but you must know your bus speed.
As an example, you can buy a used 250MHz w/1MB for $50 at this site; check out all the other speeds.

  • Can't boot with wireless adaptor installed

    Hi all,
I've had a problem for several years with this; I'm finally getting around to dealing with it now.
I have a Pismo G3, OS X 10.4.8, and I've never been able to get the machine to recognize a wireless adaptor (both a RaLink USB one I just bought, and a D-Link DWL-650X before) if the adaptor was plugged into the laptop when it powered up. The only way to make it work is to boot the machine without the adaptor installed, then plug in the device (either the PC card or the USB device) after I'm in the finder. In fact, with the former PC card, if I didn't remove the card at startup, the OS would NEVER see the card; at least with the USB adaptor, I could pull it out and put it back in after startup and it would still work.
There's got to be a way to make this work; because I had the problem with two different cards, and two different drivers, using two different interfaces, I'm thinking it has something to do with the hardware/firmware of the Powerbook itself.
I would even be happy if someone could just give me a script that I could set to run at startup that would just cause the USB port to THINK that it got a device plugged into it (some kind of "re-scan the ports). The device itself is getting power - I can see the light on it, and the other USB devices that are plugged in at startup (like the printer) work fine.
    Any suggestions?

    BigBoote66,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
This is not an uncommon problem with the black G3 powerbooks although I cannot say it is universal; there is just not a large enough base of complaints on these boards to say none of the WiFi cards avoids this problem. My Wallstreet refuses to boot to either 9.x or 10.x with the Buffalo 54Mbps card. Some Pismo owners have to insert the WiFi PC card during a certain phase of the boot to get the card to work. This all appears to be related to the firmware contained on the PC card.
I might suggest this: Call OWC and speak to a technician about the Sonnet Aria Extreme...ask if this particular card avoids your issues. This is a well-regarded, natively-compatible WiFi card which uses the Broadcom chipset. OWC also used to sell the Buffalo AirStation, the card I use, but recent, subtle changes in its firmware introduced the startup problem.

Possibly someone will also post here with the name of a fully compatible card.

  • Dusting off a Wallstreet

I had a friend who wanted me to take a look at her old laptop computer a couple of years ago but I couldn't give her an answer on what was wrong because my expertise is in Windows systems a not Macs. Well she said she got a new one and that for the time I spent trying to troubleshoot the system I could keep it and play with it some. Well here it is years later and now I'm trying this again.
The computer is a Wallstreet and has 2 batteries, CDROM, powercord, and superdisk drive. One of the batteries does hold a charge and can run the system from that. And the wall power works fine too. The big thing is that when you press the power button you hear a "booooo" and what sounds like fans powering down. Then the screen comes on showing the mouse cursor and a little disk in the center with a flashing "?". I know from trolling around boards before that this usually means no OS, or even bad HD. If you put your ear up to the computer where the HD is you can hear it spin up but then stop over and over again. This continues until the system shuts itself down. I have no system disks for this and was just going to download and install OS 7 and upgrade from there if possible from the internet. i know it seems kinda silly to look into fixing an upgrading such an old system but I was looking for a simple system my wife could carry anywhere in the house and run things like AIM, yahoo, get email, write letters, and play at web sites like neopets and pogo.
After all that here is what I'm asking. Is the HD dead? And if not is there something I can download and burn from my Windows PC and run it on boot on the Wallstreet that can trouble shoot the HD for me. I know lots of stuff. I would like to eventually add the max RAM (512 I think it was), bump the HD up some (which needs to be done anyway if dead), add a wireless networking card to access my Linksys router (I have a Dell brand but would probably need something else), and get up to something like OS 9.2.2.
And if anybody has any ideas how it can be done, like I haven't thrown enough in there, I am going to be building a media server for all of our pictures and it will probably boot to Linux or Windows. Can a Mac OS see and access the Network system and view the pictures on the server?
I figure if I have a basic laptop that will do the things she wants to do around the house then why buy or build another system.

    Hi Bopher,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. It looks like you have a bit of a project. A Wallstreet with no functioning operating system can pose a few challenges that the newer macs get around with the "Target" mode and firewire. Without those functions it is hard to get a look at the hard drive or even put anything on one without using the optical drive or a floppy drive. If you download and make a set of floppy disks with os 7.5 you could possibly see if the machine will work and what kind of processor you've got and how much ram you've got. The problem is that your windows machine won't be able to rip the disks in the format readable by the powerbook. Bummer. Linux may be able to run an emulator that will run the operating system but I have no experience in that arena.
I usually just resort to pulling the drive out. It is a simple procedure and can be done in under a minute once you get familiar with the procedure (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Wallstreet/HD-Replacement/3/4/).
Once the drive is out you can put it into an enclosure and get a look at it. Unfortunately you'll be very handicapped in what you'll be able to see if you hook it up to a Windows computer. To really see and work with the drive you'll need another Mac. A Linux emulator may work though.
To avoid all that pulling installing and emulating you could just invest in a set of OS install disks.
10.2.8 would be the highest OSX that will run natively on the Wallstreet. Luckily you can sometimes find this operating system on Ebay. I just did a search and found one available for $20.
    http://tinyurl.com/3t457o
If you don't have the option of using another mac you're pretty much going to have to have some sort of start up disk. Whether it is OS X or OS 9 you've got to have some other way to see what the system can do without using the hard drive.
If you're determined to make the thing work you'd be better off getting a copy of a 9.1 install disk and using that as a start. That is the OS that the wallstreet runs to when it has trouble and if it isn't installed on the hard drive you may run into trouble later. If you had access to a brick and mortar Certified Apple repair place they could at least put in a disk and tell you if the machine is worth working on or if you're better off spending your money and time on a machine that you're more familiar with, like an old Thinkpad or something.
If you can load a working OS and it fires right up, you've actually got yourself a pretty decent machine. Most of your expenses after that would be to upgrade the RAM so that web pages load better. Another hard drive would work nice, the operating system needs to be on the first 8 gigs of the drive or else the logic board won't be able to find it at startup. Wifi can be had with a 802.11g card but you'll have to be running OS X in order to use a 802.11g card. If you can find an old 802.11b card that runs on the broadcom chipset (orinoco gold) it should run in OS 9. If you can run OS 9 and have wifi then you can run iCab or similar bowser and still use Yahoo etc but AIM won't run on OS 9.
Here's what I'd do. Take the machine into a computer shop. See if they can test it enough to know if it would run if it had a good HDD and OS installed. Then, if it is useable, invest in an OS 9 Disk
    http://tinyurl.com/3sdeth
and OS 10.3 install CD. Also, get a couple of 256 ram cards
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G3-Lombard/
for the daughter card, and at least a 60gb HDD.
Then: Install the ram and hard drive, install OS 9. Then plug into the router with an ethernet cable and use iCab or (gasp) Internet Explorer 5 or Netscape Navigator 4 to pull down a little application called XpostFacto.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Framework.cfm?page=XPostFacto.htm l
Once you've got that in place you can install your 10.3.X CD's using the Xpostfacto interface to get around the hardware checks on the install disk and to emulate a New World ROM for the system to use. It works quite well and is actually faster than the 10.2.8 system due to the streamlining of some processes that were done between the two systems.
Now you'll be able to use Firefox 3 beta 5 or Firefox 2 but you won't be able to use Safari 3.1.
If you've decided that you must have the latest Apple browser, you'll have to run Tiger (10.4.11) which isn't a problem except that you don't have a DVD drive, just a CD ROM. With that being said, you might be able to find Tiger installers on CD's instead of a DVD. I found this on ebay
    http://tinyurl.com/3n3ckb
Those disks are for an eMac, it wouldn't normally be a problem but since you don't already have a working OS X system it would be a bummer to run into a snag at the beginning. Once you have a working OS X system in place all you need to do is pull down Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) and it will extract the OS out of any install CD and get around any hardware check. But you need a working OSX install in order to run Pacifist.
Once you've got Panther (10.3) or Tiger (10.4) or even Jaguar (10.2) running you should be able to do all the things that you've got listed there. Even access your pictures on your server. The old machine may take a bit of time but it will get the job done. The extra ram will help speed things up. They do make and sell processor upgrades for these machines but they're so old now that it may be hard to find one. I had a bad experience with an upgrade card but you might not. If you've decided you need to run OS X, and you want to upgrade, you'll be better off IMHO with a G4 upgrade. The Altivec Engine helps with the graphics demands in OS X.
Hope this has helped. Have fun with your new/old wallstreet!
    John

  • Wireless card not working... help please!!!!!!!!!!

oh please help. got this Agere orinoco silver wireless PC card for the titanium. OS 10.2.8.
Card doesn't light up on insert (although someone told me they aren't supposed to). The card shows up in the desktop menu bar (only gives me the option of powering off the card). I've tried the SourceForge wireless driver and the demo of the IOXperts driver. Both claim they work great with this card and this computer and this OS. am I crazy, or is my card a dud?
thanks, please answer if you can, I'm going nuts.

    Joey,
I have the Orinoco Gold that I used with my old Wallstreet. The card has two lights. One goes on when activated and one blinks showing wireless activity. I suspect your Silver should behave similarly. The IOxperts driver is supposed to work. Have you checked System Profiler to see if the card is recognized? Have you rerstarted the powerbook? I believe the card should be inserted when the powerbook is shut down. Post back. FWIW, there are 11g cards out there that will work just fine.

  • Wireless in a g3

I am in the process of getting a G3 PowerBook! Is there any way I can get wireless internet on it? it is runing os 9!

Without knowing exactly what PB G3 you are talking about, there is no one answer. If it is the Pismo (Firewire) model, you can get an internal Airport card for it. However, they are no longer in production and the prices have skyrocketed as a result. You can get a USB or Ethernet Wi-Fi card (or even buy an Airport Express and use it via Ethernet to communicate with your wireless network). The following information about PCMCIA cards applies to all Powerbook models and is courtesy of user "jpl", from whom I copied a post one day to another user (who had a Wallstreet PB G3) and appears to be very good. Note, however, that some cards work ONLY with OS 9 and others work ONLY with OS X. You need to read the documentation for each card type at the links that jpl supplies:
A wireless PC card is very easy to install; you just place it in the PCMCIA card slot on the left side of the 'book. Apple's "AirPort" cards are made to be installed internally and your "Wallstreet" M4753 does not have this internal slot. The Powerbook (FireWire) is the only black G3 that Apple calls AirPort-ready, meaning it has the internal slot. This is in no way a limitation, in my opinion, since you have a very large selection of wireless PC cards. In addition, the AirPort card for the black G3 is the slower 802.11(b) 11Mbps standard while you can move up to the faster 802.11(g) 54Mbps standard.
You also have several options... - You can buy a third-party wireless driver which supports 10.1.x and then buy a supported wireless card in the list; however, these are all the slower 11Mbps cards.
    http://www.macsense.com/product/broadband/aerouni_b.html
    - Here is another driver and again 11Mbps cards:
    http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html
    - This driver supports both 11 & 54Mbps cards but requires 10.2 and later:
    http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html
    - You can use the freeware driver here but again, these are 11Mbps cards. There is a minor bug when running 10.1.x but fixed in 10.2. Again, check the list for supported cards.

If you were to update to 10.2.6 or 10.2.8, you could install Apple's AirPort software and then use one of several 54Mbps cards that are supported by the AirPort software. Here are supported cards:

    http://www.macsense.com/product/broadband/WPE800.html

    http://www.buffalotech.com/wireless/products/airstation/WLICBG54A.html
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=335
The above cards are supported by AirPort 3.1.1 and OSX 10.2.6 or newer.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=70176
The Wallstreet is natively supported up to OSX 10.2.8 and it is certainly a vast improvement over 10.1.x. You can of course just download the freeware SourceForge driver, buy an inexpensive 11Mbps card, and be wireless.

  • Powerbook G3 Wallstreet Wifi Card?

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet PDQ running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.7 via Xpostfacto. What wifi PC Cards will work with it? I heard that there were some issues using certain PC Cards with the Powerbook G3 when using Xpostfacto. Can anyone tell me some that will work for sure?
    Thanks

    Apple Rules,
I have had both 10.3.9 and 10.4.7 on my Wallstreet and the Buffalo WLI-CB-AG54 AirStation 802.11 b/g/a 54MBps Wireless PC-Card has worked perfectly using AirPort software.
The Sonnet Aria Extreme 54G Wireless CardBus Card will also work. Both cards are available here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/wireless/
The AeroCard Extreme 802.11g 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus Card is also compatible. All of these cards use the Broadcom chipset.

Just make sure you update to the latest versions of AirPort.
