Dear all
my company have two different data center, one active data center, the second data center is not active, they are willing to go with active - active data center model, i am who responible to design WAN solution,
We almost success to make LAN for both DC act as one LAN data center,
now how to make two different site act as one from WAN prespective,
our WAN devices model is
ASR 1006, 7604 ( in each site)
what are the technologies used for such things
i hope anyone can help

WAN Router Connection to Data Center

We have a WAN router that needs to connect to our Data Center network. The Data Center consists of two N7K core switches, with a pair of N5K switches as aggregation, and each N5K has twelve N2K fabric extenders. The N2Ks are single-homed to the N5Ks. The N5Ks are vPC connected to the N7Ks.
We would like to attach the WAN router to both N7K switches in the Data Center. The N7K switches only have 10G ports in them, so we can't terminate the WAN router directly to the N7Ks.
I was considering creating one dedicated VLAN on each N7K, and assigning an SVI to each VLAN, to correspond to the L3 connections between the N7Ks and the WAN router. Then, we could trunk these VLANs to each of the N5Ks, and configure one 1G port on each N5K for the VLAN, and connect the WAN router to the N5Ks.
Two questions regarding this design:
1) Is there a problem in connecting the L3 WAN router to the N7K via the N5K?
2) Does vPC connectivity between the N7K and N5K pose a problem for the proposed WAN connectivity?

The vPC between N5K and N7K is the catch here. Layer-3 routing over vPC member ports is currently not supported so I will advise you to stay away from this approach.

Directaccess and Multi-Site

Hello everyone,
I'm having an issue with my Directaccess implementation, allow me to give you a brief description of my DA infrastructure.
Originally I had a single DirectAccess server working properly, and configure for my Windows 7 users. That single server works perfectly. We decided to enable multi-site, and here's what's going on with this configuration.
SITE 1 - which includes my working DA server, it allows my Windows 7 & 8 clients to connect properly.
SITE 2 - which includes my new DA server, it's configured to allow only Windows 8 clients to connect, this one isn't working properly.
Problem: My test client, a Windows 8 Enterprise laptop, connects automatically to SITE 1 (I have access to all intranet resources), then I manually change sites to SITE 2 and here's when things break.
When I run get-DaConnectionStatus, I get NameResolutionFailure response. I'm unable to access any intranet resources.
One thing I noticed on the SITE 2 DA server Remote Client Status console, the client's device name shows up, but the authenticated username isn't showing there. The authenticated username does show up when I switch back to SITE 1 server.
I read several messages posted here, but those don't seem to apply to the issue I'm having.

Okay, I've done more research and it looks like the issue with SITE 2 DA server is that is not resolving IPs. (This issue isn't present on the DA server for SITE 1)
From SITE 2 DA server, I'm able to ping intranet servers using their IPv6 address, but not their names.

Get Sitecollection and Sub Sites Data Base Size Using PowerShell

Currently i am getting the Site collection database size using this powershell
$SiteCollurl = @{Expression={$_.url};Label="Site Collection URL"}
$size = @{Expression={[math]::round($_.diskused/1MB, 2)};label="DB Size in MB"}
$HTML = Get-SPSiteAdministration -Limit All | select $SiteCollurl, $size
So in this $HTML i am getting all the Site Collection Url's and DB size for each site collection.
Now i want to get the Sub Sites url and Sub Sites Database size also.
I tried like this "$HTML = Get-SPSiteAdministration -Limit All | | Get-SPSite -Limit All | Get-SPWeb -Limit All | select $SiteCollurl, $size"
I am getting all the sub site url's but Database size i am getting 0 for all sites and sub sites.
Can any one help on this.how to get the database size for all site collection's and sub sites.

Partner site data center

In working with a few client sites, I've noticed they seem a bit snappier and responsive than my partner site. I decided to look up the server location (used this tool:http://www.81solutions.com/server-location.html) and found that my client sites are being hosted in the NA datacenter while my partner account is in the Australian DC. My question is: is it possible to have a partner site hosted in the NA DC? I want to make sure things are as responsive as possible but don't want to waste time recreating & migrating the site to the NA DC if it will somehow be moved to the Australian DC when I have BC support flip the switch to make it my free partner site.

Unfortunately the partner account cannot be switched to another DC as requested.
However each DC (US, AU/Asia and UK) should be responding and performing at similar rates.
If you are noticing quite a difference my suggestion is to reach us either on chat or submit a case perhaps with an attach video of what you are experiencing so we can investigate this further for you.

I have dozen questions but will try to restrain myself and start with the most important ones :)
1. Can cables between IOM and FI be configured in a port-channel? Let me clarify what I"m trying to achieve: if I have only one chassis with only one B200M3 blade inside, will the 2208 IOM and FI6296 allow me to achieve more than 10Gbps throughput between the blade and the Nexus 5k? Of course, we are talking here about clean ethernet environment.

2. Is it possible to view/measure throughput for Fibre Channel interfaces?

Here is one about FlexPod: I know that in case of vBlock there is the company that delivers fully preconfigured system and offers one universal support point so customer don't have to call Cisco or VMware or storage supports separately. What I don't know is how it works for FlexPod. Before you answer that you are not sales guy, let me ask you more technical questions: Is FlexPod Cisco product or is NetApp product or this is just a concept developed by two companies that should be embraced by various Cisco/NetApp partners? As you obviously support Datacenter solutions, if customer/partner calls you with are FlexPod related problem, does it matter for you, from support side, if you are troubleshooting fully compliant FlexPod system or you'll provide same level of support even is the system is customized (not 100% FlexPod environment)?
4. When talking about vCenter, can you share your opinion about following: what is the most important reason to create the cluster and what will be the most important limitation?
5. I know that NetApp has feature called Rapid Clones that allows faster cloning than what vCenter offers. Any chance you can compare the two? I remember that NetApp option should be much faster but didn't understand what is actually happening during the cloning process and I'm hoping you can clarify this? Maybe a quick hint here: seems to me it will be helpful if I could understand the traffic path that is used in each case. Also, it will be nice to know if Vblock (i.e. EMC) offers similar feature and how it is called.
6. Can I connect Nexus 2000 to the FI6xxx?
7. Is vBlock utilizing Fabric Failover? Seems to me not and would like to hear your opinion why.

Control Plane Policing (CoPP) for Data Center

Hi All,
I am planning to apply CoPP on different routers and switches of Data Center. This Data Center comprises of Cisco 6513 (VSS), Catalyst 3750, Cisco 3845 and Cisco 2811.
My question are:
1. Do we have to apply CoPP on Catalyst 3750, as these are DMZ switches only?
2. How to find the packet processing rate from router and switches?
3. Any best practices CoPP template for routers running OSPF and BGP?

1. You would need to apply CoPP to all routers/switches that are
manageable from untrusted sites. So even if you have non-DMZ switches
that will be able to be telneted to from the outside for example,
CoPPing them would be helpful for you.Do we not need to apply
CoPP on switches and routers that are not telneted from outside?
Control plan traffic is traffic that goes to the control plane of the router like management traffic, snmp etc. If there is a firewall securing you from the outside I would feel my switches are more secure and it is not easy to bring them to their knees with an attacker doing too much from the outside. Control plane policing applies to all control plane traffic, but it is mostly against outsiders that someone would try to protect himself.

cpu" would give you some insight for processes like ssh or telnet and
how much the take. Not control packet rate processing though.I
want to know the maximum packet processing rate of a router or switch?
I don't think you will be able to pull that number.
3. Depends
on how powerful the router is, how many commands you are running, how
much route processing is going on.Best practice for a router
running OSPF with 200 routes?

Is there support for a data center Multi-Master using SunONE "Bandwidth Manager" over a WAN ?

I'm not sure what you mean by "data center M-M". There is currently only support for 2 masters. Do you mean
"Is there support for having a managed WAN connection between the two masters?"
This scenario has been tested, but I don't know if it is fully supported by iPlanet. In other words, it should work, but probably not as well as two masters sitting next to each other in a data center, which is the recommended deployment strategy.

Replication between 130 nodes and 1 Data Center

Hi everyone.
I have 130 database nodes (Oracle Standard Edition One) with a big distance of separation, and 1 Data Center with 3 nodes (Oracle Real Application Cluster 10g R2). The connection between nodes and datacenter is through various ISP ( WAN).
I have exactly the same model design of database in nodes and datacenter.
DataCenter is a repository of data for reporting to directors and dictate the business rules to guide all nodes.
Each node have approximately 15 machines connected with desktop application.
In other words Desktop Application with a Backend Database (node).
My idea of replication is not instantly, when a transaction commit in a node then replicate to datacenter. Also over nigth replicate images because is heavy, approximately 1 mg per image. Each image correspond to one transaction.
On the orher hand i have to replicate some data from datacenter to nodes, business rule, for example: new company names, new persons, new prohibitions, etc.
My problem is to determine th best way to replicate data through nodes to datacenter.
Please somebody could suggest me the best solution.

Last I checked, Streams and multi-master replication require enterprise edition databases at both ends, which rules them out for the sort of deployment you're envisioning.
If a given table will only ever be modified on nodes or on the master site, never both, you can build everything as read-only materialized views. This would probably require, though, that the server at the data center have 130 copies of each table, 1 per node. For schemas of any size, this obviously gets complicated very quickly. For asynchronous replcation to work, you'd need to schedule periodic refreshes, which assumes that you have relatively stable internet connections between the nodes and the data center.
I guess I would tend to question the utility of having so many nodes. Is it really necessary to have so many? Or could you just beef up the master and have everyone connect directly?

SQL Server 2012 Multi-Site clustering with 2 nodes for HA and DR

Usually we setup 2 Node Prod cluster for Local HA and 1 or 2 Nodes in other data centre for DR
Given that we have an option to setup multi-site / multi-subnet clustering from SQL 2008 R2/2012. I am planning to use just 2 nodes, 1 in prod data centre and 1 in DR data centre with 2 or 3 instances. This will act as both HA and DR solution.
I would like to know if this solution is good, and any disadvantages, any best practices, etc.? By implementing this I can save some cost on physical servers.
Following will be configured:
* Will be using different subnets, quorum on different server with "Node and File Share Majority"
* All virtual IPs will be registered for virtual name, and Subnetdelay, Subnet threshold will be modified accordingly
* All nodes on same domain
* Use SAN Disk with replication to DR site

SQL 2008 R2 doesn't support multi-subnet clustering. You would still need 3rd party component like VLAN and Disk Replication. SQL 2012 is the first version to support multi-subnet clustering without using VLAN. you would still need disk replication hardware/software.

Since nodes are often located in two different data centers at geographically dispersed locations, there is no shared storage between the nodes in a multi-site cluster. Clustering across two different data centers provides a higher level of availability and
protection at the storage level as we have more than a single copy of the data.
For SAN replication technology implemented in such clusters, the main activity is to keep data replicated between the sites. Typically, if we have nodes on two different sites, we would have two different network infrastructures and the nodes would be in
different subnets. In such cases, if we are on a SQL Server version before 2012, we need to use third party VLAN (Virtual LAN) technology so that one IP address travels between two sites. This is called wide-IP. Companies hesitate with this solution because
of the need to buy a third party solution to deploy the VLAN. Using VLAN technology means the same IP address would failover to the remote site in case of a local site disaster. Network administration might consider this as an overhead to maintenance and an
extra piece of the networking component that needs to be secure.
With SQL Server 2012 we do not need to use stretch VLAN technology but SAN replication is still needed for multi-site clustering. The OS version for this can be from Windows Server 2008 R2 and above. In this deployment, we can have a SQL virtual network
name having an “OR” dependency on two different IP addresses. One address would be representing each subnet. With the “OR” dependency, if IP1 or IP2 is online we just use the network name. This is one of the Enterprise Editions only features.
Other option which you can think of, without using 3rd party solutions would be AlwaysOn Availability Group. I have written details about it in my book.

Single CAS NameSpace in Multi-Data Center Model With Exchange 2013

We are in process of transitioning from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Our Exchange 2007 infrastructure is as follows:
2 Data centers (DC 1 and DC 2). Both with active user population. Both have their own direct Internet Connectivity
Standalone Exchange 2007 mailbox servers in each data center
Load Balanced CAS (HT co-located) servers using Hardware Load Balancers in each data center. Load balancers are configured with VIP and FQDNs (LoadBalancer1.Com and LoadBalancer2.com)
Currently No access allowed from Internet except ActiveSync (No OWA or OA)
Outlook anywhere is disabled in Exchange 2007 organization but once mailboxes will be moved to Exchange 2013, OA will definitely be used – we will provide OA on Intranet as well as Internet
All the internal URLs including Autodiscover point to VIP (Load Balancer IP)
Autodiscover is not currently published on Internet, but we have a plan to publish it now once Exchange 2013 is introduced
We want to keep a single CAS NameSpace BYOD.ABC.Com for our ActiveSync and OA (and not going to allow OWA) access from Internet. We want to have Split-DNS for our new Exchange 2013 infrastructure due to
the simplicity it brings. So we are going to use one name BYOD.ABC.Com from the Internet. We have GSLB that provide Fault Tolerance and Geo-Load Balance to external requests coming from Exchange clients, between two data centers. When we will
install new Exchange 2013 servers, they’ll be part of new VIP so:
In a 2 data center model, can we name our internal VIPs same in both data centers (i:e BYOD.ABC.Com) as we have decided to go with Split-DNS? Do you see any caveats to this strategy
If the above strategy will not work, what are the alternate approach(es).
If we configure same names for the VIPs in both data centers, it will mean that the Autodiscover SCPs for all the Exchange 2013 CAS objects (and Exchange 2007 CAS objects during co-existence) will point to BYOD.ABC.Com. This should not be a problem for
AD joined systems as they’ll find and contact Autodiscover endpoints in their own sites (based on Keywords attribute that tells which AD site SCP belongs to) –
Please correct me if this is wrong.
If we configure same names for the VIIPs in both data centers, this also means that we have to configure BYOD.ABC.Com on External as well as Internal URLs on all the Exchange 2013 servers across both the data centers – Wouldn’t that be a problem – in terms
of loops during CAS-CAS Proxy/Redirection?
If we configure different names of the VIPs (say BYOD1.ABC.Com and BYOD2.ABC.Com), how will the Outlook Anywhere requests be handled in both data centers. The OA requests from DC1 will expect the Certificate Principle Name to be BYOD1.ABC.Com and requests
from DC2 will expect the Certificate Principle Name to be BYOD2.ABC.Com. How to get this stuff working. As far as I know, OA expects CPN to match with it’s name.

Exchange site resilience 2010 (2 MB Server in each Data Center)

Here is Scenrio:
2 MB servers in Primary Data Center (DC)
2 MB Servers in Secondary DC
With one DAG Across Sites, DAG has IP 2 Addresses (One for Each DC Subnets).
Witness server: Primary DC Server
Alternate Witness: Secodary DC Server
Cluster: Node and File Share Majority
DatacenterActivationMode: DAGonly

Issue:
Last Night Secondary DC Power Goes Down and all System Shutdown.
So I was Not able to access Email even the Primary DC was up and Exchange Server was runnign fine, I Check the Maibox Databases and It has shown the Database "Dismounted" on Primary DC Exchange Server with Activation Pref =1
I check the Cluster and Cluster Was Down.
As FSW was Up and Accessible, and Two Nodes in Primary Site were UP then Why It happend?

The Cluster services fail on all nodes after you shut down the cluster node that owns the quorum disk resource in Windows Server 2008 SP2
This issue occurs because of a deadlock that causes a timer to expire. This timer terminates the Cluster services.
To solve Event ID 7031, please configure the antivirus program so that it does not scan the MSCS folder on the quorum disk.

HT5390 have a Mac mini server in the data center no physical access. Is it possible to configure a remote "console" that allows shutdown and reboot remotely ?

A mini mac used for building sits in the data center normally we access via VNC network connection.
I want to have "console" access to shutdown and reboot system.
Reason. Updated to Mountain Lion OS X from 10.7.x and lost VNC connections, now host is down with no physical access.
Alternate is to call data center and see if someone can cycls the power ?

As mentioned by Linc there is no 'lights out' management for the Mac mini (or any current Mac). If the Mac is still running you can initiate a reboot via the GUI or commandline. If however it is completely crashed then there is a solution you could consider which is to get a managed power distribution strip. With this the power strip has its own network connection and lets you remotely turn off (and on) individual power sockets. This would then let you 'hard reboot' the Mac mini even if crashed.
