Wan to wan extreme

Can you connect Timecapsule LAN port to Airport Extreme WAN port to extend wireless network.
Timecapsule Wan Port connected to Cable Modem
Have Ethernet cable from one end of house to other - Timecapsule on one end.
Plan to add Airport Extreme to other.
I know I can extend wirelessly but signal may not be strong.  Ethernet cable fixes this....

Basically yes. This would be the fundamental network connection used in a roaming network to extend the wireless range. Please review the link and post back if you have any additional questions.

  • No FTP access over WAN with Airport Extreme 802.11n v7.3.2

    hi there,
I've read through a few different posts on this topic (both here and in other forums) but I can't seem to find the answers I need.
I have an AEBS n with version 7.3.2 of Airport Utility. attached to the AEBS is a hard drive. I want to enable file sharing (mostly FTP, but AFP would be fine too) to access the drive through the WAN port.
    here's what I've done:
    - connected a USB drive. This is available through my LAN and is accessible using my OSX account login & password)
    - enabled filesharing and "share disks over ethernet WAN port"
    - enabled NAT and default host on the AEBS
    - configured port mappings for FTP and ARD (I couldn't enable any other file sharing because of a port conflict. Is this because the hard drive connected to the AEBS is already set to use these?)
I created an account with DynDNS to resolve my ip to a domain name.
when I ping either my domain or the IP, I get the same results. it sees my isp but the destination host is unreachable.
port scanning my domain from 20 through 548 shows that 139, 445, and 548 are open. but no 20.
what am I doing wrong here?
    thanks in advance

  • WAN users experience extremely slow file services...and nothing else!

Help! I have been having issues lately with network throughput on any file that is accessed from an off-site location. Currently I have a Leopard server (running DNS, Firewall, NAT, VPN, iChat) that is providing authentication services to my users who are logging in from an off-site location. I also have a second server running Tiger server that is set up as an OD Master running AFP and providing authorization services to my users. This is where most of the files my users are accessing are located.
I have run speed test after speed test on our internet connection that consistently yields a rock steady 337KB/sec UL and 319KB/Sec DL (We have bonded T1's @ ~3.072 Mbps) yet when users are trying to download or access files using AFP or FTP the server will sputter between 0-120KB/Sec and never achieve anywhere close to its maximum theoretical throughout. I have tried to confirm in as many ways as possible that this is a file service problem and not an internet connection issue. I regularly use Remote Desktop from my home to connect to the server that yields bursts and sustained speeds all the way up to 340KB/Sec. Again, bursts are not saying much, however when the server was displaying a screen saver in full color mode, the throughput was steady at ~3.072 Mbps. Furthering my suspicion that this is a service issue, I have set up a VPN that sends all traffic over the VPN and then logged in and visited Youtube and other download sites, all yielding the expected maximum 3.072 Mbps speeds when downloading files from the internet to my computer.
In order to try and narrow down the problem further, I have turned off the VPN service (thinking that perhaps the overhead for encryption for multiple users was causing the low throughput) and tried both secure and insecure AFP and FTP downloads from the server. Again, this yielded the same pathetic throughput.
Is there some issue with transferring files over the internet that I'm not aware of? I'm literally tearing my hair out trying to figure out where the problem is. Users are taking anywhere from 2-5 minutes to open small (<1M files and this is causing serious headaches. Alternatively, are there any other solutions that would enable users at multiple locations to access the same files at the same time?
Thanks for any help you guys can provide, I'll be more then happy to answer any questions you have.

    Hi,
Try both repair disk permission (under disk utility) and repair disk from your installation disk A. If the problem persists, try manually downloading COMBO update 10.6.5 and install it. The combo update may overwrite those problematic softcode and thus overcome the problem.
    Hope these help.
    Cheers.

Matter now resolved!   We thought that we had covered everything before bringing it here.  But just one dodgy router port connection is all it takes.  Thanks for your time.

i'm searching for a router that can handle Gbit Connections. that means, ich hab 1 gbit port from my provider and i want to use more than 1 device --> router
    at this page:
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/option,com_chart/Itemid,189/chart,121/
the rvs4000 where tested, but the wan->lan performance was poor.
i saw at the release notes of an firmware update, that this problem was fixed.
is the WRVS4400 and the RVS4000 the same device but with WLAN ?

  • Cisco RV042 - Dual Wan Load Balancing - Secure Site (HTTPS) Trouble

    PID VID :
    RV042 V03
    Firmware Version :
    v4.0.0.07-tm (Aug 19 2010 19:19:50)
Ever since I setup my RV042 with load balancing using the Dual Wan system I have had trouble staying connected to some secure sites. After doing some searching I found that the potential issue is the IP change mid session.
Although my interface is significantly different I was able to find the same area in my RV042 admin area however, it doesn't seem to work.
    System Management
    > Dual Wan
In Wan 1 & Wan 2 I have HTTPS and HTTPS Secondary all forwarded to use Wan 2 under Protocol Binding
This however has not managed to do anything at all for my network and every computer conneceted experiences the same HTTPS irregularities at some websites.
I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is.
Both incoming connections are from the same service provider although the plans are different.
Any help with this would greatly help me stop losing my mind trying to fight with my website control panel for 10 minutes to just login and get something done.
    Thanks

Any ideas or advice from anyone?

  • New ASA5512- 5515: content filter and WAN load balancing

    Hi,
it's possible to make the content filter with the new models of asa?
One of our customers would like to have content filter with the possibiliy to monitor the single client activity (log).
It' s possible also make the load balancing between 2 WAN?
Now in HQ they have 2 WAN with WAN backup (ASA5505) and VPN to another site.
    Thanks in advance,

I saw that you can add CX feature:
CX - Context Aware Security Feature:
Cisco  ASA CX Context-Aware Security is a modular security service that  extends the ASA platform with next-generation capabilities. It is  available with SSD purchase for model such as 5512-X, 5515-X, 5525-X,  55545-X and 5555-X.
    Application Visibility Control (AVC):
This  is additional feature in CX. Activation of this feature require  seperate license. This is the feature that do deep packet inspection for  Application recognition. provide context-aware firewall security.
    Web Security Essentials (WSE):
This  is additional feature in CX. Activation of this feature require  seperate license. It deliver features like "URL Filtering" and "Global  Threat Intelligence".
    Can somebody confirm that?
Have somebody already used and configured this features?
    Thank you,

    Hello,
I have a problem to configure the optional wan on my SA520W.
We have 2 connexions (Cable and ADSL), when I set the primary wan with the Cable there are no problems. When I set the primary wan with the ADSL there are no problems. But when I set the Cable on the primary wan, and the ADSL on the optional wan, primary wan works, but optional wan doesn't. Leds are green, link state is UP, but wan state is DOWN.

    Graham,
To use both WAN ports at the same time, browse to Networking-> Optional Port-> WAN Mode. Select Load Balancing so that all traffic will be balanced between the two WAN ports. The other modes only allow a single WAN port to be connected at one time.

  • RV320 - Using Specific WAN Setting

    Hi All,
I am new to RV320 and I would like to know that how can I set an IP address using specific WAN (say Wan 1) connection when load balance is enable.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
You should be able to achieve it by using protocol binding settings:
Dual WAN--> click on WAN (1 or 2) icon --> scroll down to protocol binding --> add specific rule for all services where source IP address would be your particular LAN host IP (repeated twice if it is only 1 host) and destination 0.0.0.0 (repeated twice) choose desire WAN1 or WAN2.
    I hope this helps,
    Aleksandra

  • Help setting up airport extreme, clueless here

First off, I just purchased my macbook pro last week and am still getting used to the whole Mac world after having PCs my entire life. Today, I picked up a airport extreme base station to replace my old 2wire gateway. I was told that the extreme needed a DSL modem to work and I just so happend to have kept my old Speedstream 5360 ADSL modem.
This is where I'm totally lost. I have no idea how to set the network up or anything. To help paint a picture, my current set up is this: a Dell desktop connected to the 2wire via an ethernet cable. The 2wire has the DSL phone line in it along with the power cord. Also in the house are two other laptops that connect via wifi. The 2wire was setup by my friend who now lives in another state and I don't know anyone else who is very tech savvy.
So if I understand correctly, the way the new setup would be: DSL phone line into the speedstream, an ethernet cable from speedstream to the WAN port on extreme and then an ethernet cable from extreme to Dell?
Beyond that, I'm totally lost as to what I need to configure on the Dell computer or on the laptops. I tried for an hour or so but can't seem to get the hang of it. PPPoE, bridged, DH-something...all Greek to me. If it helps, I'm using AT&T/SBC.
    Any help? Thanks!

try this ..... might help. I used this to set mine up

  • Airport Extreme - Remote is not passing internet access - help please

    I have the following:
Cable modem - > WAN of Airport Extreme. - works perfectly - wireless clients in range get internet access and the network works.
Second Airpot Extreme set to relay this network. It connects, gets a "green" light - seems to be set up properly, but wireless clients in that area cannot get internet. Why is it not passing internet.
Can anyone explain step by step how to do this or post a link to an apple doc?
    Thank you,
    Miklos.

Hi, actually this is still not working.
I got the second base station configured so that when it started up, it was working properly as a "remote" station, and I was getting internet fine through an ibook there (which is normally too far away from the main station to get any signal).
However, today, although the second "remote" station still has a green light and is connected to the network it is not getting an IP address from the main base station - and so I can't get any internet through that 2nd base station anymore.
Why was it working yesterday and not today when I've changed nothing?
    Any help much appreciatd.
    Miklos.

  • Express not playing with Extreme

I've been having trouble with my Verizon FIOS so I've had to do a lot of connecting, reconnecting, restarting, etc. In the meantime, this means that the cooperation between my Airport Extreme and the Express has been messy. The config is as follows:
FIOS comes into an Actiontec router, wireless is off on that router
Signal goes out of the Actiontec via Cat 5 to the Extreme into the WAN port
The Extreme then talks to the Express in another room which is there for the machines that are not wireless
Currently, the light is green on the Express, but in the Airport Utility, when it restarts, it either is able to restart the Extreme or the Express, but never get both up. If I let it continue to restart I get a message eventually saying "Airport Utility was unable to find your Apple Wireless device after restarting..." with more details that the device was successfully updated and and I may need to select the network from the Airport menu....blah blah...click OK.
I also can see there's a printer connected to the Extreme, but I can't print.

Just in case someone else is having this problem, I found a solution here on the boards that fixed me right up. Alas, I can't find the message that I lifted this from so I can't properly thank whoever posted it, but here's the text that saved me after a few months of my Airport Express simply not working:
"After spending far too many hours configuring an AirPort Express to extend an AirPort Extreme Base station network with WPA encryption and closed networks, we can share some tips that may save others time.
"We first updated to the latest AirPort software and used this to update the firmware in both base stations. (You can use Mac OS X 10.3 with the appropriate version of the AirPort software; a separate version applies to Mac OS X 10.4.)
"Next, reset the AirPort Express to its defaults, using the tiny reset button on the device. Now, using AirPort Admin Utility, connect to your AirPort Extreme Base Station and use the WDS panel to enable the AirPort Extreme Base Station as a WDS "main base station" and "allow wireles clients". Then, you can click a "+" button to scan for the AirPort Express, which can then be automatically configured as a remote - far easier than connecting directly to the AirPort Express and configuring it manually.
"We did make one change to the AirPort Express configuration, however: setting its status light to blink on activity. This is helpful in checking the configuration, because we couldn't tell which base station we were using from the client side, as both base stations use the same network name."

  • New Base Airport Extreme 802.11n .....bugs

    Well,
I have just read tens of posts in many forums, included this one.
It seems that the Base Airport Extreme 802.11n has severe problems of connections to internet.
    That's is also my case.
    This is my config.
    1. Modem NetGear DM111P <--> WAN Base Airport Extreme 802.11n
    2. LAN Base Airport Extreme 802.1n <--> Ethernet iMac 24"
    3. LAN iMac as DHCP auto IP
    4. Base Airport set for PPPoE
There is no way to get into Internet.
If I connect the Modem DM111P directly to the iMac 24" LAN the Internet is on, fast, fluid.
With the Airport in betwwen....no way...
    Any help ?
I am seriously thinking Apple has distributed a product full of bugs.
Read other forums with same problem.

    iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Base Airprt Extreme + 2 x Airport Express

    James,
Confirmed: the NetGear <--> AEBS <--> iMac does not work.
I have set the Bridge Mode as you suggest, but nothing, no internet !
Othe 3 hours of tests in setting tens of conigurations. No one works.
All the leds of the NetGear Modem as the one in the AEBS are solid green.
I will return back the NetGear modem to the retailer.
I am now running with my old Pirelli Modem from Alice Service (Telecom Italia Net) that - even if slower - at least it works.
I am concluding that the Airport Extreme has seriuos problems of compatibility with the open market modems.
Apple should check the SW+HW before selling such difficult items as the the Airport Extreme base.
Just a question: which model/type of modem(s) is(are) effectively compatible with the AEBS ?
If the retailer will permit me this, I will replace the NetGear (a very good modem...what a pity) with a compatible one with this strange base.
    Thaks for your help.
    Beppe

  • Time Capsule to Extreme to Express via Ethernet Connection ?

Recently purchased all three to help simplify my Home/Business network but having issues connecting and communicating between all three.
Whole home is hard wired for ethernet in every room so I assume this would be the fastest method of linking all three together but would also like all three to broadcast wireless for full property coverage. I beleive I am using airport utility 5.6.1 for setup. I am working on Windows 7 machine.
    Setup so far is:
Motorola Cable Modem with Charter Service to Wan Port of Time capsule (Seems to all work well)
Then in other room/level Airport Extreme with ethernet from time capsule to Wan Port of Extreme
and this is the point where I lose it... I haven't even gotten to the Express on the basement level..
Could anyone chime in with more understandable instruction on both hard wire configuration and software using
    airport utility?
Or maybe point in right direction? What other info needed?
    Certainly appreciate any help..

The roaming document explains adequately how to setup... at least the principle of it.
    It isn't hard at all..
One device is the main router.. You create a wireless network from this router.
All other devices are bridged.. (that is router bridge not wireless bridge)
They all get IP address from the main router.
All of them create a wireless network..
if you want roaming you simply use the same name SSID (wireless name in apple speak).. same security setting WPA2 Personal = WPA2 AES and password.
But you can setup different networks if you want.
Channels are supposed to sort themselves out automagically.. but I don't believe in voodoo.. try voodoo first and if it fails, no biggie.. set manual wireless channels.. set simple short names no spaces pure alphanumeric.
It is perhaps new for you and the lack of html setup is a pain.. but it isn't hard to do. Apple have cut back the number of options to barest min to do the job.
Come back and ask specific questions if you run into trouble. We have some very clued up people here.. who spend their life energy answering the same question every day with a cheerful attitude.. never seen the like.. on a windows forum you would be told to RTFM.
