Want a frankenpad
My Thinkpad R52, 15", 4:3 died about a year ago (fan probably), and I would like to have it frankenpadded or to get a T6x frankenpad with 15", 4:3 aspect (and matte display, and trackpoint). I don't need more than 1024x768 resolution (no gaming capacity, either), but would like to update the rest as much as possible. Do any of you do this work for others (or know someone who does), and what are some cost estimates?
I was given a T60p for parts, but it is 15.6", 16:9, so it is not clear to me if anything inside applies to my desired machine profile.
Thank you for any suggestions. I wish I had time to study and learn the details from others' good work here, and to build my own frankenpad, but it probably won't happen that way in the near future.

Someone needs to start a company to make 4:3 aspect laptops with matte finish and trackpoint.
Higher resolution makes everything smaller. Do people then zoom in the display on everything? I don't do a lot of photo editing that might need high resolutions, so images generally look fine to me. More importantly, the text doesn't get squeezed down too small for comfortable reading. Is it normal to turn display font sizes up to compensate the high resolution?
Perhaps even more important than resolution to me is that the 4:3 aspect is my main driver for seeking a franken pad. I like the matte displays, small bezel, trackpoint, and keypads in these thinkpads too, but really wanted to get the package in a 15", 4:3 aspect machine. Does the superior display you are both recommending not run 1024:768 res? I tried the higher screen resolutions (1 or 2 steps up) on my machine but always found the lower one more comfortable.
I was really considering the T60 in the case that some parts would be useful in a 15" shell. What about cpu/mobo, memory, and hard drive options for 15" build? Would those options make it worthwhile to pursue with lower res? I am not married to the R52 shell and would consider a T6x, T4x, or other shell with 15" form. Thank you for any further suggestions and considering my idea (misguided as it may be). I will probably send a pm (might be a day or two).

I have come accross some brand new T61 penryn boards made after August 2008.
It therefore seems quite obvious to me that I should convert two of my T60s to more powerful machines. (already traded my T61 for my wifes T60).
I have bought two motherboards and I have to fully working 15" T60s. My question is now of what other parts I will need besides the CPU and Memory which is something I have in stock.
Do I need to purchase a T61 fan? And is it possible to fit the T500 fan in there as I have 2 of those lying around (1xIntel and 1x Intel/ATI)?

And a lot more....Besides the board you'll need the CPU, PC card assembly, cpu support bracket and it would be ideal to use T61 wire harness, but you can use the T60 if your reroute it a bit. It's also possible to use the T60 fan, but they aren't as efficient at cooling and on a discrete board you'll want to remove the grey pad from the gpu platform and replace it with thermal paste and assure it's adjusted to fit properly, but it's better to use the T61 fan.

ps. You'll also need to modify the frame and in order to use the T61 discrete fan you'll need to modify the retainer bracket. Here are photographs of the mods you need to perform.
Frame mod consists of removing one of the modem mounting "stand offs" (screw holes) and grinding down one so the frame doesn't contact the board on one of the mounting points.

Don't be tempted to try drilling the motherboard to relocate this mounting hole, it's been tried and will destroy the board.
A small piece of metal needs to be removed from the bracket and the grey pad removed fromt he top of heatsink in order to get the larger T61 heatsink to fit under the T61 keyboard without any bulge. It's a tight fit, but with this mod you can get it all back together without any noticeable keyboard clearance issues.

You'll also need to remove the modem. If you require one for dialup internet or fax you can get a pcmcia card very cheap.

How can multiple users want to use airpaly to apple tv?
Our family wants to be able to share different media from our iphones/itouches through Apple TV 2. How can we do this? It seems that only one device and connect at a time. While we understand that all 4 of our devices cannot simultaneously connect and play, we would like to be able switch back and forth. We cannot. Also, when the last person to use Airplay is leaves the house or is gone (their itunes library is closed/off), others would like to access the Airplay through their device to the Apple TV 2 but more often than not we cannot seem to get the Apple TV 2 to recognize a new user. Any tips?
It's a fundamental oversight of Home Sharing - it assumes you're a single user with a single AppleID.
You can go to Setting>Computers and log out of one AppleID and change to another HomeSharing ID, but that seems a hassle.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. Want more versatility with text options
I'm new to Aperture, and I checked with the Manual but have not found what I want.
I am making a book and have many pages that have paragraphs of text describing the photos. I can change fonts, type sizes, bold, italics, etc. But I would also like to change the text inset margins of the text boxes. Another adjustment I would like to make is to add line spacing between lines of text. I would like to add a little more vertical space between paragraphs, rather than using double line returns. Perhaps I am spoiled from using the many text adjustment features of QuarkXpress to do all my text editing.
Aperture is very sophisticated when it comes to photos, but it seems to lack the same versatility when it comes to text adjustments. Perhaps those adjustments are incorporated in Aperture, but I just can't seem to locate them.
Anyone know how to handle my test adjustment requests?I second your request for more text formatting options in Aperture (and iPhoto). I'd settle for just the formating tools in Pages. In Aperture you can at least add multiple text boxes. I guess you could create an entire page in a page layout application then save it as a JPEG file then import it into your Aperture book project. Not sure what the quality would be like though.

I added my first folder of MP3s and it created a playlist, but didn't show up in the library. When adding a second folder, it didn't show up anywhere. I can do a search for them in the search window, and it finds/plays them, but I want to be able to browse them in my library. These are not MP3s downloaded from iTunes, but are personal files located on my hard drive. Can anyone help?
I have a Dell that's running Windows XP. I have found that itunes is very temperamental. this works most of the time... except on my son's computer that's running Windows Vista.
Go to your library in iTunes. Then go up to file and try one of the options (import, add folder to library, or add file to library).
Adding a folder is the least work. You can add all the files from a folder with one click... if it works. Remember that itunes is temperamental.
If that doesn't work, try adding a file. The problem with that is that you have to go through the whole process for each and every file (song, movie, etc).
Sometimes the only thing that works is to import.
I haven't gotten iTunes to work on my son's computer (Windows Vista).
I can't get support from apple in any way at all! They are good about creating electronics that appeal to us But they are lousy at support. If anyone figures out how to access support (where you can actually contact Apple) please let me know ([email protected]). I've been trying for 6 months. -

recently my phone updated to ios 7, it wont let me sign into my iphone app store to download apps,i click on an app i want and it just clicks but doesn't start to download, i can see thats its not signed in so i tried to re set up my account under the app store in settings , but its just a grey area and wont let me click to input any information. this happened right after i updated my phone, any help?

Every time I login I get the message "aosnotifyd wants to use your confidential information stored in "my name" in your keychain." How do I know if it is safe to allow this? Can anyone advise please?
My immediate reaction is to deny.
Have you downloaded or installed any application that may relate to the abbreviation AOS? It may not necessarily be the application's name, could be the developer or distributor.
As it's occuring at log-in, go to System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items and look for a related item. If there's one there, right-click (or ctrl click) on it and select Reveal in Finder. That will show you where the originator of the item is on your system and should give you more of a clue as to what it is.
I'd remove the item from login items anyway (highlight and click the minus sign at the bottom of the window). There shouldn't be anything trying to use your keychain info to notify anyone. -
New to HD Editing and CS, building a PC to suit requirements of HD edit. Experienced help wanted :-)

A Bit about me..
I have recently acquired the need for video editing at a much higher level with both having a family now (baby daughter) and a very active hobby (rc heli flying at a sponsored level). With this in mind I bought a HD video camera some time back without the realisation that, to effectively edit such footage requires horsepower!!.... so i have saved up for a new computer and ended up here after much reading on various forums (toms hardware, video guys etc etc).
Where I am up too....
I have started by firstly implementing a NAS into my Home network which is primarily used to store and stream media (Gigabit LAN) around the home. It is setup in RAID 5 with 5 x 2TB disks (so about 7TB of storage). I have done this so there is some backup of photos, movies, home video etc (if I lose a disk , hopefully i will not lose the lot). I have also acquired adobe Premiere Pro CS 5 and now need a workstation that will allow me to edit in confort ( the one I have will not even run it!! .
My aim is to store original files and completed work on the NAS (or burn to Bluray etc).
I am looking at a PC solution, as I can obviously get more horsepower for less $$ than a laptop solution.
I have built PC's in the past but not with high frequency and this will be the biggest budget one I will have attempted. I have been researching alot over the last few weeks about sytems and components and found this forum to be very good in dealing with hardware specs and requiremnts in a very proffesional way.
I am now at the point where I getting a little muddled with which way to go and still have a lot of research to complete. My approach is to tackle each of the components needed one at a time in a fairly hierarchial manner.
What the PC will be used for..
This PC will be used primarily for the video editing and some gaming (when I have time). AlLso any other horsepower intensive apps if needed (I have a laptop and other comps for general duties).
Budget
My budget is fairly rigid at $2500 AUD (so I am not looking at a Zeon solution LOL). The budget is to include:

CPU Intel I7 2600K (based on my research this seems to be the best way to go with my budget and needs)

Motherboard
I guess my issues with MOBO slection revolve firstly around which chipset to go with Z68 (newer) or the P67? It seems the Z68 is feature rich, however I also seem to feel that the Quick sync and SRT would be better disabled with what I am setting the machine up for? So therefore what advantage is there with going with Z68 if any? or am I better off getting a more established P67 chipset based board?
I also see that some boards have the Nvidia NF200 for expanding bandwidth on the restrictive 16 PCIe lanes available on the 1155 socket boards given I am only looking at one decent Graphics card is this a chip I should avoid (as I have read this can cause latency with only one graphics card)?
Another thing I have noticed is some boards have a PLX PEX8608 chip which seems to manage the limited PCIe lanes better if other cards are plugged in?
I also see some boards have the Marvell Sata 3 controller on them that does not seem to perform as well as the native Intel Sata 3 controller on the Southbridge in tests. I guess I have no real idea of when I would be looking at stretching the bandwidth and wonder whether I need to concern myself with 4 x sata 3 connections (2 intel and 2 Marvell)?
One last question I see there is now MOBO's available with PCIe 3.0 available (even though there are no devices that can utilize it) is this even worth being a consideration or is it not really of any importance to the slection process?
In summary it appears there is lots of goodies on offer with different chipsets and boards, however I do not want to waste budget on things I have no use for or gimmicks.
CPU Cooler
It is my intent to start with the factory supplied Intel bundled cooler and invest the money not spent on this item on better graphics card etc. For moderate Overclocking it seems to perform ok.... am hoping this will be ok?
HDD Storage
At this stage I am not up to speed with the exact storage devices I need, I am initially looking at whether my ideas for a storage system have merit? Please bear in mind I am not a CSpro user as of yet and so some of this is just based on research with no base knowledge....?
1 x ~120Gb SSD for OS and Programs
1 x ??Gb/TB HDD 7200 rpm for Media Projects

I am looking at Nvidia as far as I can tell so that I may make use of the CUDA threads and as far as type I assume I pick the best one of the approved list (adobe approved list)? I am still confused ast to whether there is any benefit from a using a twin GPU card, its unclear to me whether the CUDA can tap into both of the GPU's on such a card? Of course budget restraint will come into play here.

I am looking at 4 x 4gb dual channel Ram cards to give a total of 16Gb total (DDR 3) as for brands, types and frequencies I have no idea yet and need to cover off some of the above first before my research gets too wide?
PSU and Case
I am hoping for a modular device for this, however I was thinking this and the case are a low priority at this stage (until some of the other solutions are verified).
Blur Ray writer /reader
With me using my NAS for media streaming I will not be burngin to many Blu ray disks, however I will be reading a few so that I can upload them onto the NAS via this unit. I have no idea what is a good or bad unit or what to look for in this area?
Monitor
I have found some cheap solutions in the 23" sizing for a main screen (~160 AUD) supported by my existing 17' monitor, however is there anything I should be looking for in particular with the monitor I choose?
I will update each section with what is decided on so that it may help others who are having the same tough decisions to make?
Even if we just tackle the Motherboard first I would be greatfull...

I am replicating some of the sample report of SQL Servers in BusinessObjects XI R3.1.
One of the SQL Sever's report is of product catalogue type that gives complete information like name, category, description along with the products image etc... for each of the products.
I am trying to replicate the above said SQL Server report in Business objects XI R3.1. I am facing problem in bringing the image in to my BO report. The image resides in a table and its datatype is of varbinary(max). I don't know the exact matching while creating an object in the uiverse designer.

I have a MBPro mid 2013 with 1 Thunderbolt port. Just bought a Mac monitor and want to daisy chain a PC monitor to it. Use a Mini DVI to VGA adapter from MBP to PC monitor. How do I daisy chain the 2 monitors?

if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro. -
I have a late 2009 MacBook which I want to connect to an old LG tv. The tv does not support HDMI it only has the (red, while, and yellow) ports. Sorry I dunno the exact name for it.

How can i get this to work. I can receive on Mail, but i can't send.check your outgoing port settings and make sure it's using a specific port and not the default port, also you might want to check to see if it is using SSL, TLS or any other encryption. Verify the setting from your old machine setup.
