Want a Service Pack?
You may have noticed that it was a while since Microsoft released a Service Pack. They keep pumping out Cumulative Updates which include many fixes, but these CUs include a disclaimer that you should only install them if you experience a particular problem
corrected by the CU. Several of my MVP colleagues encourage people to install CUs, but I personally find it hard to recommend this to people on a general basis given the disclaimer.
For this reason, Christopher Muthmann, I and Glenn Berry have submitted three Connect items asking Microsoft to release SQL 2008 SP4, SQL 2008 R2 SP3 and SQL 2012 SP2. It's particularly urgent for the two SQL 2008, as they go out of mainstream support this
summer.
I like to stress that you should only vote for these Connect items, if you really think that service packs are needed. If the CUs meet your needs, and you don't care about Service Packs, don't vote. Or vote down, if you think that releasing service packs
(which requires quite some testing effort) is a waste of time, and Microsoft should focus on improving their cloud story or whatever.

I have 4 computer systems, 2 of which run under Windows XP w/ Service Pack 3. I have dedicated these systems to the task of reading all of my PDF Files which I have collected from my recent college career. The desktop system I want to use is an old Dell Optiplex GX240 with Acrobat Reader 4.0. The other Windows XP system I have is an old HP Laptop with Adobe Reader 8.1.4 installed. I want to update both systems to the latest version that is available for Windows XP w/Service Pack 3 installed. So, because I do not want to place these system online, would it be possible for me to obtain a copy of the Adobe Reader software I need on a CD-ROM? - Ken DeWitt, a 68-Year-Young Vietnam Veteran and recent college graduate...Summa Cum Laude.

I want a solution to the problem I was having on Win 7 Pro Service Pack 1 in that links on an open Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.12 file will not open in my Firefox Browser 33.0.2. The Error I receive is "Acrobat could not run the web browser. Unknown Error. (123)"

Hi Team,
We are using SharePoint 2010 server with service pack 1, we want to remove/delete old user profiles, access & site from server
is there any script or feature available using that we can only remove dactivated/deleted/old user profiles, access & site.
Thanks
NPratikTake a look at Metalogix ControlPoint, which will compare user accounts on SharePoint to Active Directory and remove accounts that no longer exist in AD (or are disabled).

Managing service packs (All I want for Christmas)
There's been about a zillion service packs in the last year - and each time we apply a service pack,
we need to change the WL startup scripts. And at last count we had something like 100 WL instances.
So - are there plans in the future for service packs that won't require changing all these scripts?
( Yes, I did notice the bin/solaris/setenv.sh in 5.1 which simplifies things somewhat)
MikeThanks.
That's the problem with having a great product - people start nit-picking about the little stuff.

Yes. This will be addressed in version 6.0 service packs, as we have
adopted a new architecture that will provide greater quality and also
greater usability.

I tried to download itunes to my phone.First it wanted it to download the new itunes. We also updated our Windows xp.I kept coming up can't complete because there was an error when setting up.One time is was error 9 and they tried to help me.I have a laptop with the internet and we tried it there. We were able to get service pack 3 downloaded. So we did upgrade the itunes on the laptop even though I have never put music on there but there is some from someone .I never heard of many of the songs.Any how I did try to download and restore on the laptop and then come to the land computer and see if the box comes up to restore the contacts.Well it didn 't work and now my phone won't even turn on .I have no one to call if something happened to me.I am going to the Apple store right off the bat tomorrow morning.I have everything in the box and the phone and reciept and see if they make it work or give me another one.I have to take my sim card again since They gave it back to me.I bet it means I can't sync the photos in the phone.Even with 2 computers and talking with 3 people it still did not work. All because I wanted to download the itunes to my phone.I don't care now if I can just get my phone to work and my contacts are in there.I hope I don't have to buy the ringtones again I bought 4 of them.Any one have this problem and what did you do to fix it?
The Apple rep tried both those ideas and both failed. The rep was connected to my computer so she
could see my screen and show me exactly what to do. My iPhone (not ipad) never has synced photos to my computer,
I have to use explorer to copy and paste or cut and paste them to my PC . It is the syncing back to my iPhone of only the much smaller selected photos that used to sync in itunes but now the itunes sync button cannot be clicked to make that happen. And the reason I only sync back selected photos is that my total PC pictures file is about 40 Gb. Also I find it a lot more useful to have a small number of folders ( no sub-folders of course) so I can quickly locate on my iPhone pictures from different categories such as family, autos, etc. None of this posed any problems for over a year until just recently. I am reading on other threads of many people with other iTunes syncing problems, and wonder now if it is the latest iTunes updates that are causing the problems? While I have tried removing and reinstalling iTunes on my PC, I don't know how or if you can, install a previous version? -

I have an HP-Pavilion Vista PC with MS Office 2007 and Service Pack 2. Each time I try to save a Word or Excel document I get the “Not Responding” message. The “Word is saving……” bar at the bottom does not show any progress. On clicking the document I get a faded version even when in Safe Mode. Somehow the document appears on the Desktop where I tried to save it. On trying to open the saved document, even as administrator, I get the following ”File in Use” message:
“The ….docx is locked for editing by….” and I am asked three questions including:
“Do you want to open a Read Only copy” yet on clicking “Yes” I am able to edit the same document.
On trying to save to a different location I get the message:
“Your autocorrect file MSO 1033.ad could not be saved. The file may be read only or you may not have permission to modify this file.”
The same message stating FILE12\1033\MSO.ACL MSO 1033ad recurs with new Excel documents.
How can I correct this problem?
PS
Worse still, the HP Advisor icon that appears on startup does not load successfully while showing the message: “Access to the path Hewlett-Packard\HD Advisor is denied”.
What can I do about it?
ZDKI'm having the same issue, allowing guest access on the share did change the logs I'm getting in Samba. Earlier on it was giving errors on the inability of guest access to the share.

After Installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack the RDL reports do not work
I installed SQL Server 2012 Service Pack on backEnd sharepoint and also on BI Server that host Reporting Service.(Before installation everything was working properly)
After this installation the RDL reports do not open and I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'domain\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
I also receive the same error message on changing DataSource, Parameters and subscription.
I should mention that, I am using Reporting Services in the Integration Mode. I want to open and modify RDL reports from SharePoint and inside the SharePoint Document Library.Hi Hedayat,
Thanks for posting your issue,
To solve this problem you have to grant your SQL Reporting Service Application Pool
Account (whatever is running your SQL Service Application, see Central Admin -> Manage Service Application -> SQL Server Reporting Services)
Full Control to the web application that report is being deployed to in your particular case.
Or you could just use the powershell command below:
$webApp = Get-SPWebApplication –Identity http://yoursharepointapp
$webApp.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity(“domain\SSRSAccount”)
Also, check out below mentioned URLs for more details and fixes of this issue

G580 wireless device not recognized in windows Xp service pack 3
Hi i bought a new laptop last week, g580 and the serial no is **********. I have installed windows xp service pack 3 and the laptop cannot detect the wlan device when i check in the hardware/device manager/network adapter , i also get a message when i turnon my laptop from the wlan adapter that the drivers are missing. I have downloaded the wireless drivers from the lenovo support website i.e. WLAN (Liteon, Cybertan) and when i am trying to install the drivers a error pops up saying "BCM4313 : cannot find setup file". So please guide me to resolve this issue, i also installed wimax but it says the wimax device is not found.
Moderator note: serial number removed for member's protection.Hi vijeth,
thanks for posting and welcome to the community,
Based from your post here this does seem to be a driver issues impacting your Broadcom wireless card that has been fitted into your machine. This Error code is actually wide spread across different Manufacturers that has the Broadcom wireless installed. At this point it is uncertain what the exact solution is. Some have rectified the issue by doing a windows update and it had installed the broadcom drivers and that had solved the issue.
Currently there are some solutions that has help some of the users. Especially from the thread below.

You may want to check this out. Some of the user are experiencing this Win 7 or Win8. But it worth checking what they did as it might help you out as well.

Windows xp , which service pack is best ?
hi, can anyone help please ? my PC uses windows xp service pack 2, i have automatic updates enabled but i have not been prompted to update it to service pack 3. i have tried to look for a download to update to service pack 3, as i presume it is better than service pack 2. is this correct ? is it better ?
also, when i have found a link offering to allow me to get service pack 3, it is accompanied by dire warnings about setting up system restore points, suggestions that only programmers and experts should be doing it and advice about losing files, data and damaging the computer !! is it worth the (apparent) risk to get service pack 3, how risky is it?
thanks for all advice.this forum is for problems with products supplied by BT retail. I suggest you try here which is more appropriate http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itproxpsp/threads

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1). I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes..." I have done this a number of times to no avail.
I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.) -
ITunes problems after trying to install Windows XP service pack 2
Hey guys, I've been having trouble with my iTunes among other programs recently, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to help. Basically, my iTunes has been acting strangely ever since I tried upgrading my Windows XP system with Service Pack 2. When it ran through installation, it got all the way through. However, once I rebooted the computer, it told me it was unable to complete due to an unstable system. So it told me to uninstall the software, and I removed it from my program list.
Unfortunately, once I complete removed it from my hard drive, several programs on my machine started to malfunction. Now, whenever I try to play iTunes, it just stops working all of a sudden along with the rest of the sound software on this computer.
The big problem is, I forgot to back up my system before I did all this, so now I'm worried that I'm stuck with this dysfunctional hybrid of a computer system. So now, I've tried reinstalling the old Service Pack 1 onto the computer, but it always seems to cancel in mid-installation.
I know this is probably of a topic that should be posted, on an XP forum, but I was hoping that maybe someone on here might be able to give me some advice on how to solve this problem. If not for my computer, than perhaps at least for my iTunes trouble.
Thanks to all who might be able to help. The reason I would think your iTunes stopped working is because your system is no longer compatible as iTunes requires Windows XP SP 2 in order to work properly.
If you want to back up your iTunes content then I would suggest opening My Documents>My Music and choose the whole iTunes folder and move it to an external drive. That is normally where all your content is saved, unless you didn't have 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' selected in iTunes then you might want to use the whole My Music folder as your backup. -
"Requirements: Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2"
I do not yet own an IPod Nano, but I am planning on buying one. The question that I need to know is about the wording of the requirements for Windows XP. It says XP Home or Pro with Service Pack 2, but I don't know whether that means it requires Windows XP Home (without SP2) or Windows XP Pro with SP2; or if it requires Windows XP Home or Pro, both needing SP2 installed. I have XP Home with no Service Pack installed, and do not want to install it due to a conflict it has with another program that I use on my computer. If anyone could help me with this, thank you very much. Also, if you have Windows XP Home, please post if your IPod Nano is working and if you have SP2 or not. Thank you.
Don't worry, you can install iTunes on Windows 7. Just make sure the recipient knows to download the correct version of the installer.

Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads. I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2. I have check for all window update. I have gone through Apple itune help list. Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run aroundExcellent news!
Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:
