Want advice on dual monitor options for touchsmart for IQ 770

My screen is just too small (use dual monitors at work) so I bought a 2nd monitor, brought it home and there was no where to plug in the connector cords. Surprise!  Is it possible to have a dual screen with the touchscreen? A retail guy told me no when I tried to find an adaptor of some sort. Any help appreciated.

You should be able to use a USB display adapter:

    Hello 1stRangerCole:
Welcome to HP's forum:  In your case I recommend you go to your local computer store and ask one ot the computer sales representatives to help out with what exact cables you need to buy.  Please write down your computer make and model number and the make and model number of monitors. They will need this information to cross reference them. You will be able to tell what ports they hook up in by matching up the cable ends  with ports. If you are not comfortable with it ask them to draw a diagram as to what cables go where.
Now that was the easy part this is on you now.  Even I find it dificult just by reading it.  Click on the windows start button  on the right hand sign open up Help and Support  in Help and Support search box type in PC to Monitor. Then click on Move windows between multiple monitor .   Please follow these direction carefully . The reason I did not post cables that you need to purchased. I did not want you to by the wrong ones. Waste that money for nothing. Sales clerks are paid to help out costumers out. Besides if they told you to purchased a wrong cable they will take it back and exchange it with the correct cable
Not worth you trying to figure out all these technical names and terms are. Let the yong folks do it for you. That's what they get paid for by their employers. frrw.

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

Yes, I see that I was in error when I posted that.  Sorry.

Accordingly, the only card you can install would be this one...

  • Want to run dual monitors;

I want to run dual monitors; my video card if GeForce4 MX, bus is AGP; vram 32 mb; vendor nVIDIA; it is in my PCI slot #1 (I have a scuzzi card in slot 5 and nothing else).
At present I have a Dell CRT 32mb as my main display, with mirror turned off.
Now I have hooked up a Belkin ADC to DVI adaptor to the ADC output and connected it to a Sharp monitor with a DVI input.
In my system profiler it says "NVDA,Display-B", cjlick on that is says no display connected.
    So—it won't run.
What is wrong with this picture?

Does the new monitor work if you click "Detect Displays" in system preferences?
If it still doesn't, try connecting the Sharp monitor directly to the card's DVI output (instead of the Dell) and see if it works then.

  • Need help with dual monitor setup for KDE 3.5.5.

    Here's my hardware:

Using this xorg.conf file, only my NEC LCD analog monitor could display KDE while the Samsung digital can't.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help guys, I'm halfway there.
The second monitor shows the KDE desktop, but it isn't exactly what I expected.  Right now, both monitors display at 1024x768 (each) or 2048x768 (total).  The larger monitor stretches and distorts the display of 1024x768 to its natural resolution at 1440x900 and it isn't what I wanted.  Other than that, the dual desktop setup behaves what I expected to.
Here's a snippet of my xorg.conf that currently works:

  • Advice about dual monitor, "newbie" friendly WMs

    Need some advice:
Just got another monitor for my laptop (a samsung 23.5'' 2333sw), and I'm trying to tweak my monitor setup. What are the best panels/windowmanagers for dual monitors? Like right now I'm using compiz + tint2 and when I change workspaces, both monitors change workspaces. When I open a program, it appears in the taskbar on both monitors. I'd like them to be more independant (but still be able to share windows between them, so separate xorg files are out). Awesome kept things separate automatically, which brings me to my next question....
I don't want to use awesome (although it handles dual monitors exactly how I like, with no tweaking) because I'm having extended family stay over for a few weeks and I'd like to make my computer as user friendly as possible (part of me wants to do some linux converting). I'm talking totally mouse-based. OSX-esque dock, the works. Guys have any advice for the best window manager/apps to appeal to windows/mac users? Not that I want to make a windows clone. I just want something inviting, intuitive, with a low learning curve.
Part of me is thinking of maybe just tweaking awesome so it includes titlebars, is always floating, and has a dock. Since it handles dual monitors well right now, this might be the path of least resistance.
    Thoughts?

That's a very interesting topic. The program lxrandr is able to control the behaviour of plugged monitors but obviously it is only able to display the same content on both screens.
so are there some lightweight programs that can differ between the content like e.g. gnome is able?

  • G4ti4600 dual monitor option doesn't show

Alright This is so weird.. Card has been working great for the last 2 months or so. I went to reinstall winxp as I have done before and this time when I installed the drivers off the msi cd for the video card. I rebooted and normally would setup the options for dual display. Well under the video settings it only shows one monitor. Where before it had always showed two I can even setup any option to play movies to the tv. Anyone have any suggestions..?

Does the nVIDIA nVIEW panle show up in the control panel ?
Did you try some drivers from the internet (28.32 cause absolutly no problems, beta 40.xx are also available from nVIDIA).

  • Dual Monitor setup for Mac Mini???

I just bought a VGA Y-cable and split my monitor signal to two monitors. Unfortunatley the same thing is displayed on both screens where as I was looking for an extension to my desktop.
I found this http://www.national-tech.com/catalog/dvisplitter.htm (the top one for $ 146)
I was wondering if I split the signal with a dvi splitter rather than a vga splitter if i could have a dual monitor setup with more screen space...
    Thanks,

  • External monitor options For Macbook Pro(2011)

Just curious as to what my monitor options are as a external monitor for the Macbook Pro.  I'm pretty much set on 27'' thunderbolt display but its a hefty price to swallow...
Best buy has some good deals on there 27'' monitor but can i get the same resolution and clarity from other brands that will be eqivalent to Apple?
I'd like to stay in the 27'' to 30'' size...
    thanks

Any other options like Samsung, LG etc... that offer the same specs as the thunderbolt display?
    Thanks

  • Would be useful if there was a monitor option for posts

When you post a message to a forum it would be useful if there was an option for it to email you when your post has been replied to.
Also when performing a search it would be useful to display the number of replies to the messages - ie there is no point looking at a message if it has had no reply.

  • Acrobat Pro XI for Mac- only wants to print dual sided, option to deselect not present

Hi folks- same problem was happening on Acrobat Pro x, so i returned it.
Chat won't help on old version, nor on trial of new version, why would i buy it if it can't be fixed i queried, they didn't care.

    David,
Wow, it worked. Many thanks. This is what I did, following your directions to print PDF files as double-sided:
    01-Command P & Click "Printer button".
    02-Click Yes.
03-Click the Popup Arrow to display contents.
04-Select Two-sided "Long-Edge binding" or whatever needed and Click Print.
    05-Click OK to Print.
What fooled me is that from Word (.doc) files the screen on step 3 and 4 show directly selecting a popup menu on the initial print window, whereas when printing PDF files it is required to go through steps 1-2-3 above.
Again, many thanks. You made my day!!!

  • Advice on Dual Monitor setup

Would love to find out what Dual setup people are using these days, and how they calibrate.
I have been using the dual Apple 23" approach for about 5 years now -Yet I feel the monitors are getting old because they are consistently more difficult to calibrate and match. (Is there a benchmark age for retiring a monitor ?) Any advice here on calibrating - or choices in software/hardware that I might use and am not be aware of ?
Quite frankly calibrating them has always been an issue. I have been using Eye-One, which does not address 2 monitors simultaneously, so I have always been calibrating them one at a time. That in itself is less than a scientific way to get good results (putting it mildly).
If I upgrade, the only Apple option available is the dual 27" setup, (now glossy, which is quite different than the Matte 23"- I am told) Seems like huge desktop real estate. And I am still in Eye-One territory !

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the variables in my monitor/calibration setup and in my post. I admit calibration is and has been a constant thread of frustration in my work flow.
As new products appear on the market I try to find out how well they integrate with existing systems and how well people like using them. Since It is very important for me to get accurate results with monitor calibration, and since I have spent some dollars over the years trying to get there (not always successfully) - I keep looking.
There is always a dynamic weak link one's system. IE, when my dual displays were brand new, the choice of the calibration hardware was not as detrimental. Now that they are getting older I need to determine whether better hardware, like the color munki which you mention, will suffice and I can hold on to the existing displays for a while longer, or whether, regardless of the calibration hardware itself, I need to bite the bullet here and go for new Monitors ( a whole other ball game ).
Does my ranting make sense ?

  • Dual monitor connection for ATI Radeon 4350

I have HP Pavilion Elite e9300z PC with 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adaptor]... I want to connect a 2nd monitor to video card. I think my current monitor is HDMI, so for the other (DVI) is it dual-link? In other words, should I get a dual-link DVI cable or a regular DVI-D cable? Thanks.

Regular DVI-D cable shoould work, your monitor must have a DVI-D and not a DVI-I port...
