Want an iphone, but without the service charge. Can I?

Ok. So I want to have all of the perks of having an iphone 4 without the At&t service price. I thought about getting an ipod touch 4th generation, but it is hardly like the iphone 4 because of its lack of quality. I was wondering if I could buy an iphone 4, use only wifi, and if I ever want to pay for the 3G from At&t I can put it on my bill. Can I do that?
Added this in here in responce to one answer/comment.
So I can't go buy an iphone 4 at bestbuy and use it for an itouch?

No. AT&T requires new all iphones on their network be under contract. You can purchase an iphone with no commitment pricing(no contract), but AT&T will still require the phone be under a post-paid agreement in order to activate it. In essence, buying an iphone the way you want to use it makes for an extremely expensive touch.

  • I want an iphone, but not the data package...is this possible?

I am a guy...I don't get to carry around a purse, and I have limited room in my pockets. I would like to get an iphone but I don't want the $30 a month data package. For some reason this is very difficult for people to understand but it is quite simple. I pretty much have access to WiFi everywhere I go, so I don't need this absurdly high priced data package. I just want to be able to use the phone itself and use the Internet and email when I am in a WiFi area as well as take pictures and have a calender etc.
I am a current AT&T customer and I am eligible for an iphone uprage. So my question is this. Can I buy the iphone 3G, sign up for the data package (since it is required at purchase) and then cancel it soon after so I can just use it as a phone and a WiFi internet access? I would really appreciate a solid answer to this, since even the AT&T store representatives don't know how to answer this. I really don't think it's that difficult a question...
    Thanks!

Sorry, but no. The iPhone requires a data package. You cannot get the iphone and then later take off the data package. ATT will not allow that, plus the iPhone uses the data for it's voicemail. The voicemail will only download over a data network, not wi-fi. If you can't or don't want to spend the $30/month, then the best bet is to go with another phone.
iPhone : voice and data. Can't get one without the other
    Sorry for the bad news!

  • I'm still learning my iPhone but did the update now can't seem to clear out recent apps any ideals?, I'm still learning my iPhone but did the update now can't seem to clear out recent apps any ideals?

    iPhone 4

You can't clear them from where?
If it's under your purchases on either the itunes store or the app store, you can't. those are there for good.
If you mean closing them out, double-tap home screen then close the apps. For ios 7 it's swiping up the windows. If it's ios6, hold down until it jiggles then tap on the little x on the corner to close them out.

    hi guys,
I want to know if I can still use the Blackberry on its own without the  Blackberry service such as email, Internet etc? And also can I still use the texts and calling on a Blackberry without the service?

In addition to what bewaarse said, you will not be able to use MMS either (they require data).

is there a way to back up my iphone 5 without the charging port working?

In iTunes with the iPhone connected: set Snyc via WiFi.
Then plug the cord in the charger.
In iTunes your iPhone icon is still visible, click it while holding the CTRL key: then choose "backup".

Is it dangerous to use the iphone 4 without the earpiece grill/mesh on it? I heard it serves radiation cover and now I am worried about using it or holding it close to my ear. I had my screen replaced but the grill insert is missing as it was lost when i damaged my original screen.
    Thanks

    There are 2 issues here.
Some carriers REQUIRE a data plan in order to use an iPhone on their network. This requirement will vary from carrier to carrier. The iPhone is designed to be constantly connected. If you do not manually go in and turn off cellular data (not just 3G) The phone will attempt to connect to the Internet over the cellular data network. If you have your carrier specifically block these requests, you shouldn't be charged for them. If not, it could end up costing you lots of money you didn't expect. The other thing that will happen is things like visual voicemail will not work (if the carrier supports it to begin with) and you will get lots of messages about not being able to connect to cellular data if you're not in range of WiFi you can connect to. MMS messaging also will not work.
The second issue surrounds the statement: "use the iphone 4 with a standard cdma phone plan".
It is NOT possible to purchase an unlocked CDMA iPhone. ALL CDMA iPhones are locked to Verizon.

    Hey Garlicdaisy,
Thank you for the follow up.
With iCloud, you can have iTunes automatically download new music purchases to all your devices the moment you tap Buy. You can also access past music, movie, and TV show purchases from any of your devices — wirelessly and without syncing.
For more information, see the following:
Apple - iCloud - All your music on all your devices.

To download past purchases on your devices, follow these steps:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If you want the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution:

  • HT201272 I purchased songs from iTunes Radio on my iPhone, but now the only place they will show up is in the iTunes Store app on my phone, even after syncing to my computer a million times, the songs do not show up in my library or anywhere else.

I purchased songs from iTunes Radio on my iPhone, but now the only place they will show up is in the iTunes Store app on my phone, even after syncing to my computer a million times, the songs do not show up in my library or anywhere else. My phone is not syncing properly, I wanted to add another playlist to it that I created on my Mac. I pluged in my phone and made sure the playlist I wanted to add was checked to be on my phone when I synced.
The playlist I wanted to add was "Country." It is clearly checked. I also wanted to add the "Recently Added" playlist, which I also checked before sycing. Currently, my phone only has the "Purchased" playlist and my "All Songs" playlist on it. When I hit sync, iTunes added another playlist automatically added another playlist to the list above and checked it. It was titled "ALL SONGS 1" and had ten fewer songs in it than the playlist I had created, "ALL SONGS" had. This playlist, however does not show up on my phone after syncing, nor does "Country" or "Recently Added." (Every time I sync, another playlist is created as "ALL SONGS 2, 3, 4, etc.") One of the songs (I have not, yet checked the other songs) that I purchased from within iTunes Radio shows up in the "ALL SONGS 1" on this screen:
But does not show up anywhere else. This playlist does not show up anywhere but the two screens above. The ALL SONGS 1 or 2 playlists do not show up here:
When I search for those song in my library, it shows that I do not have them:
But if I go to the iTunes store, I get the play button and not the price of the song:
This is what things look like from my phone's side of things:
"Summertime Sadness," one of the songs I bought from iTunes Radio, does not show up in the iTunes store under purchased "All" or "Not on This iPhone"
But, it does show up under "Recent Purchases"
Also, this is what playlists are on my phone after syncing a million times:
Only what was on there before I started any of this. "Summertime Sadness" and the other songs I bought from inside iTunes Radio, do not show up in either of these playlists. Please, help me.

I want camera ,apps and wifi but not the phone. Can I do that?
I'm sure this is a common Q but I've spent more time then needed already to find the answer with no luck.
It's a free star to a polite answer

This rings very true. The iPhone is subsidized by AT&T by a significant amount. This is corporate line fact.
AT&T's subsidized price for the iPhone is as follows:
    3G - $99 for the 8GB & $149 for the 16GB.
    3GS - $199 for the 16GB & $299 for the 32GB.
These prices require signing a two year contract with AT&T.
Apple and AT&T's non-subsidized/no-committment/full retail sales price for the iPhone is as follows:
    3G - $499 for the 8GB & $549 for the 16GB.
    3GS - $599 for the 16GB & $699 for the 32GB.
The iPhone is an iPod Touch with a phone that also includes a GPS receiver, bluetooth, and a camera. It also includes proximity sensors to turn the iPhone's screen off when holding the iPhone up to your ear and face during a call.

  • IPhone 4 displays the fully charged icon at 96%?

Last night I accidentally unplugged my iPhone charger and when I plugged it back in again my iPhone was showing the fully charged plug icon in the corner despite the fact it was only on about 93%.
I disconnected it and connected it again and it still showed the same. When I restarted my phone, it went immediately from 93% to 96%.
Tonight, I unplugged it at 96% to see what happened and when I plugged it back in again it showed the fully charged icon.
    Any ideas?

I also depleted my battery completely, reset my phone, and let it fully charge without touching it.  That helped for me with the exact same problem.

  • Hi I am just after downloading ios 5 to my iphone but now the apps on my phone won't open or work? Any ideas as to why? thanks.

Hi, I am just after downloading ios 5 to my iphone but now the apps on my phone won't work, even the free ones. Have tried deleting and reinstalling but it asks for credit card details even for the free apps. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks

If it is asking for account details then it might just need you to confirm your account before it lets you proceed. Maybe the terms and conditions changed since last time or something like that. Try signing into your Apple account in iTunes on a computer first to check that. Then restart the phone and try again.

I've twice tried to use iTunes match. It stalls in step 2. I've rebooted my iMac computer and it still stalls. Apple's taken the $25 but not delivered the service. Can I get some personal help? There are 12,733 songs, a few dozen of which are not going to be in the Apple music library because they are unique to my collection. Also, some titled "Track XX" and no artist. I assume these would either not upload or else just be uploaded. But, after an overnight of step 2, the iTunes match program was still on song number 7384 or 12733 (it was on that number for over 12 hours). Looking in the music library, activating the iCloud icon and status fields, there were hundreds of songs with the status "waiting."

Well it could still be a software problem if you installed a third party program after the OS X wipe and install, because by booting into Safe Mode it disables certain functions of OS X and hardware. Check for updates or problems for all your third party software, include everything, including menulets, System Preference panes, hacks and so forth.
If you restored any sort of software from backup like TimeMachine, it likely was corrupted data and now is returned.
If the college tech support found a lot of dust clogging the rear exhaust vents behind the fans, then likely the heat damage done to the machine has already occured and can't be reversed. Video cards are usually first to go, which Safe Mode does disable the video card somewhat.
Run through this list of fixes, it's systematic in nature, also has a Hardware Test to see what's going on
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Too bad this is occurring to a mere 4 year old machine, but dust will do that. Here is the culprit that Apple doesn't tell anyone about.
