OT - Case studies

I just wanted to get some insight and/or opinions on this. I
have seen a few designers out there that have what they call Case
Studies in their portfolios. Are these projects that fell through?
Are they fictitious projects?
I had talked to a friend of mine who told me that if I lose a
potential project or feel I need to add different styles to my
portfolio to just make up a company and design the site with fake
info...
What are other people's thought on this?

Well, I know my friend is a very ethical person with very
good morals and values. I do not think he was implying I should be
deceptive in my approach. He is a fairly successful application
developer and I don't think he would be as successful as he is by
being unethical in his business practices (although there was a guy
who had some little startup called Micro something that was
ethically questionable
I think his point was if I am having trouble building my
portfolio through pro-bono work with friends and family or a few
paid customer projects, then pick a category or type of business
and design a site as if I was hired to do so such as Real Estate.
Build it as if, so to speak but with readily apparent fake
information such 123 some street in somewhere with a fake email.
This way you are showing your skills and artistic style. I guess
almost like designing a template maybe.
Hence my original question of listing these type of sites in
the portfolio as case studies. That was what threw me off. I was
thinking I should put these type of sites in a case study group to
convey they were not real. When I think of a Case Study I think of
a lab assignment in school or like a controlled experiment. If that
makes sense.
Some other reasons for my initial question are that I
designed a site with a friend but he may be shutting it down and
not renewing his domain. Granted the site is nothing that fancy or
elaborate, but it was one of my first efforts and there are some
things in it that I was proud of. Once he removes this site from
his server, I would need to keep it on mine to show it to people
but some of it would not be functional anymore such as the email
and the url would no longer be his valid domain address. I also was
working on a design for a potential client that has pretty much
fallen through the cracks. I designed a nice concept logo and did a
quick 1 page photoshop mock up with my proposal. We never came to
an agreement on the price and the customer has just strung the
whole process along. I would like to finish this site and use it as
an example for the portfolio.
So I guess the real issue is if not calling these case
studies then what might be a better name for these examples that
conveys to people that they are not active sites but doesn't shout
out "Here is what I could've done but no one was willing to pay
me"

As Few Case AS possible

Hi all,
Please let me know what is the best way to tackle the simple problem below with as few case structure as possible.
input: a 1D array of 2 elements.
ideal (if possible): there would be a case structure with 3 cases plus a default case. The condition would be if element 1 or element 2 from the input satistify case 1-execute case 1, same for case 2, same for case 3, and if none of the element satisfy any case, execute the else case.
Note: I only want to run the default structure only if none of the element in the array match any of the cases.

Using binary for the case is a nice touch.
If that logic does what you want Its OK but I did not exactly see what you are trying to match up so for the sake of those that follow you, you may want to add some text explaining your logic in plain speak.
Another thing you can add is an enum to make reading the case easier. After caseting the nimeric as a U32 (or is it I32) you can type cast the numeric as the enum. THe enum can be set up so that you have a clear way of defining the condition.
For example;
In the code I showed I set up a case to handle the values "1" and "3" in the same case. If I had type cast it as an enum where the value "3" had the text "Both match", you would not have to understand boolean to understand that case was intended to handle the condition when both values matched up.

I am in the process of recommending J2EE/Weblogic as an architecture to a client,
but they have pushed back in wanting to know of successful deployments, and specifically
about the success of companies using EJB's instead of a simple Servlet approach.
Does anyone out there know of some good resources for case studies of companies deploying
J2EE/EJB's?

The question is: How complex and how transactional is the application? A
simple or a non-transactional application should probably be build without
EJBs.
In an enterprise where you have many apps built from shared components, EJBs
make sense too.

In which cases can the ABAP statement CALL TRANSFORMATION be used? (T/F)
-To transform as iXML document object into and ABAP data structure using

CALL TRANSFORMATION is a new language element in ABAP that we can use to call up the transformation.
The type of transformation:
XML to XML
XML to ABAP
ABAP to XML or
ABAP to ABAP is already determined by the two additions SOURCE and RESULT in CALL TRANSFORMATION.

Is there a kickstand for iPad mini? I don't want a case - just an adjustable, attachable kickstand.

I'm searching everywhere I can think of, but cannot find an attachable, adjustable kickstand for my iPad mini Retina, unless it comes as part of a case. And I definitely do not want a case. Has anyone found one?

I have something similar to what you referenced for home use. I'm hoping to find instead a small attachment for the upper-midback of the mini that would allow me to look at it at any comfortable reading angle while I'm using it at work. I keep it in my labcoat pocket with a Logitech thin keyboard, which can only hold the mini up at one angle - and that angle is too upright. I've tried other keyboards including the Zagg and the ClamCase; each has other unacceptable deficiencies. The Zagg only bends back a little further, and its clamp makes it impossible to touch the bottom of the mini's screen. The ClamCase is too big and heavy, and maldistributres its weight inasmuch as it allows the mini to tip over backwards when it's bent back to a comfortable reading angle (they instead should have weighted it more toward the front, wrist-rest area to prevent tipping over backwards).
Please let me know if you find such a kickstand. Thanks!

let me introduce myself, I am the program manager responsible for GDS within SAP.
Could you give me a detailed example of what you refering to with regards to fundamental design changes?
We keep on evolving the solution to the changing market needs as well as, to required changes in the GS1 standard and updates from data pools but I fail to see fundamental changes.
In addition I would like to remark that "automating the GDS functionality" as you stated most likely will include modifying the solution in several areas. These specific changes could be lost during updates, yes, though I would say, then not the product is to be blamed.
