User Commands last(1)
NAME
last - display login and logout information about users and
terminals
SYNOPSIS
last [ -a ] [ -n number | -number ] [  -f filename  ] [
name | tty ] ...
DESCRIPTION
The last command looks in the /var/adm/wtmpx file, which
records all logins and logouts, for information about a
user, a terminal, or any group of users and terminals. Argu-
ments specify names of users or terminals of interest. If
multiple arguments are given, the information applicable to
any of the arguments is printed. For example, last root con-
sole lists all of root's sessions, as well as all sessions
on the console terminal. last displays the sessions of the
specified users and terminals, most recent first, indicating
the times at which the session began, the duration of the
session, and the terminal on which the session took place.
last also indicates whether the session is continuing or was
cut short by a reboot.
The pseudo-user reboot logs in when the system reboots.
Thus,
last reboot
will give an indication of mean time between reboots.
last with no arguments displays a record of all logins and
logouts, in reverse order.
If last is interrupted, it indicates how far the search has
progressed in /var/adm/wtmpx. If interrupted with a quit
signal (generated by a CTRL-\), last indicates how far the
search has progressed, and then continues the search.
OPTIONS
The following options are supported:
-a Displays the hostname in the last column.
-f filename
Uses filename as the name of the accounting file
instead of /var/adm/wtmpx.
-n number|-number
Limits the number of entries displayed to that speci-
fied by number. These options are identical; the -
number option is provided as a transition tool only

    Hello!
    I have a 8GB Ipod touch. I the other ine is worth the difference, because the simple ios 5.0 takes like 3 GB!!!
    Another reason is that new  some apps take 500 MB. I'm going to ask for the 32GB model for Christmas, and I am very disappointed with the amount of files you can have in the 8GB Ipod.

    You can also check the history of a particular user. By instance, if it use bash, check this file :
    ~/.bash_historyand check his :
    ~/bash_loginand :
    ~/.bashrcbecause he has perhaps some special feature, like to set his history in an other file by instance.

  • Want help in rdesktop software

    friends i want help in installing the rdesktop software plesae tel me the guid of installing rdesktop software . where i can find the rdesktop installation guid
    regards
    Asif

    I had a look around for some solaris binaries for rdesktop but the only link I could find was broken.
    The software was, however, very easy to compile. The instructions in the README file are pretty standard and should work for most Solaris installs.
    ./configure
    make
    make install
    This installs the software into /usr/local by default.
    These worked fine for me although you will of course have to make sure you install gcc and openssl (As these are both used by rdesktop). You can get these from www.sunfreeware.com. Install them, unpack the rdesktop distribution change into he rdesktop directory and run the 3 commands above.

  • Could not complete the last command : problem with toast 10

    Hi, I am trying to burn blu ray content with Toast 10 Pro (blu-ray content burned to DVD). I have created the content (Quick Time movie) with FCP 7 (into an MOV file). And then added it to Toast 10. Then I tried to create disk image. It gave me this error:
    could not complete the last command because there is a problem with the source material: Error code - 18771.
    I tried to directly burn DVD also, and also not successful. Anybody has the same error and how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot, and happy new year.

    I posted some more experiences with using TOAST on Roxio forum. I thought I'd share them here.
    1. 98 video clip limit. I have been helping my parents and some friends to produce un-edited videos after their vacations, etc. And I quickly ran into this 98 video clip limit, to the point I had to produce multiple DVDs for them.
    2. Error 18771 issue. This happens if the individual video clips are too long. If I edit the video using FCP or FCE, and produce, say, half an hour of video, put it into a MOV file. Then add it into Toast. It will encounter this issue. So, the way I dealt with it, was to produce shorter video clips. So far it has been working out for me.
    3. Between video clips, I am not sure how to do transition. So far, between clips, there is this annoying pause. I would rather, either it just immediately jump to the next clip. Or, out of my own choice, insert some kind of transition. Not sure how to do that. If fellow toast users can point me in the right direction, that will be certainly appreciate it.
    4. I have not been able to get the Chapter Markers from FCP to effectively show up and be reflected in Toast as it defines the menus and chapters. Again, this may be because of my own lack of knowledge. If somebody can give me the pointer to do it, again, very much obliged.

  • Where is the terminal "last" command getting it's information from?

    I searching for the information that the terminal "last" command holds.
    When I execute the "last' command...... I am seeing too little to be real..... something is up..... I need to determine when the information was deleted.
    What log file is the last command using? In Mt. Lion, in Lion, in Snow Leopard?
    Thanx for your help

    For those who are reading this, this is about a Mt. Lion system with current patches 10.8.3
    Thank you for the reply and the pointer to the audit directory.
    I am continuing to ponder why last at the terminal is given unexpected behavior. I am now noticing the history in last is only for the "last" - no pun intended - 24 hours or there abouts on one of my systems. In the audit directory there are many more entries

  • FEATURE REQUEST: repeat last command

    Hi to all!
    many times you need to repeat the last command, example: in the Table, if you need add 5 row between two rows, with mouse you must repeat five times "Add row..". This is very very AND very boring!
    Please, "remember" to insert this feature.
    Regards..

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Definitely follow Niel's advice & leave feedback for the Pages team. In the meantime, did you know that you can insert multiple rows or columns at a time? Select the number of existing rows that equal how many you want to add & then right-click or use the Edit menu & choose add rows (above or below). Same applies for columns. This picture is from numbers, but tables in Pages work the same way.

  • Config keyboard for last command

    I am using telnet terminal "dtterm" or "xterm" on solaris 8.
    I want to use up/down arrows keys to get last commands I typed. How do I configure my login shell to do this?
    Thank you in advance.
    Harris

    Hi
    It is not possible to setup a normal C-shell,Korn Shell or Bourne Shell to use the arrow keys to recall the previous commands a.k.a
    Doskey used in MS-DOS.
    You can download the freeware shell "TCSH" ( I guess it stands
    for Teacher's Shell but I am not sure ) which has this nice feature
    built in. This has several other good features too. You may download the binaries from http://www.sunfreeware.com. But note that it will
    NOT be supported by Sun. You will then need to change your default shell to tcsh and you can reacll all the old commands through the use of the up and down arrorw keys.

  • Openbox script-drag titlebar to unmaximize, help with last step?

    Hey all,
    I really missed the feature in other WM's where one could drag a maximized window out of maximize and have it restore to the original size. I have written a small shell script to get the size of the current window and then implemented it in rc.xml. The only little issue is that, for some reason, when restoring from the values originally saved, the window comes out of the "maximized" state but retains the maximized dimensions. In other words, I can drag it out of "maximized' but it stays big, and does not go back to the original saved size. Any thoughts?
    getdimcur.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    activew="$(xwininfo -id $(xdotool getactivewindow)|awk '/Width/ {print $2}')"
    activeh="$(xwininfo -id $(xdotool getactivewindow)|awk '/Height/ {print $2}')"
    echo -en "$activew $activeh" > /home/ts/scripts/curwin/curwindim
    rc.xml snippet
    <context name="Titlebar">
    <mousebind button="Left" action="DoubleClick">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>bash /home/ts/scripts/curwin/getdimcur.sh</command>
    </action>
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -b toggle,maximized_vert,maximized_horz</command>
    </action>
    </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="Left" action="Drag">
    <action name="if">
    <maximized>yes</maximized>
    <then>
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -b remove,maximized_vert,maximized_horz</command>
    </action>
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>bash /home/ts/scripts/curwin/restorewin.sh/</command>
    </action>
    </then>
    </action>
    <action name="Move"/>
    </mousebind>
    </context>
    restorewin.sh
    xdotool getactivewindow windowsize $(cat /home/ts/scripts/curwin/curwindim|awk '{print $1}') $(cat /home/ts/scripts/curwin/curwindim|awk '{print $2}')
    Testing these commands in terminal individually is successful, so what am I missing?
    Thank you.

    I have solved moving a window by dragging the title bar with the following openbox configuration, which is located in ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml on my machine:
    <context name="Titlebar">
    <mousebind button="Left" action="Drag">
    <action name="if">
    <maximized>yes</maximized>
    <then>
    <action name="Unmaximize"/>
    <action name="MoveResizeTo">
    <y>0</y>
    </action>
    </then>
    </action>
    <action name="Move"/>
    </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="Left" action="DoubleClick">
    <action name="ToggleMaximizeFull"/>
    </mousebind>
    </context>
    After holding down the left mouse button on the title bar and moving the mouse, the window is unmaximized and moved to the top of the desktop with the actions Unmaximize and MoveResizeTo. Unmaximizing and moving to the top is only done, if the window is maximized. Then in each case the action Move starts the modus for moving the window with the mouse. This configuration simulates nearly the same behavior as in Windows 7 while dragged the title bar with the left mouse button.
    After a left double click on the title bar, the action ToggleMaximizeFull switches the window state once between maximized and unmaximized.

  • Command Line Recall (Korn Shell) - Last Command Not Blank

    I'm using emacs for command line recall, so I use the up and down arrow keys, which work fine.
    However, I come from a Tru64 background, and when I go back through the commands, and then come forward again, I expect to be able to go past the last command entered and return to a blank command line, so if I don't want to choose anything from history I can enter a new command. What's happening for me on the Solaris box I am now working on is that going forward in history sticks on the last command entered, so I have to backspace it to enter anything new.
    Any ideas on how I can change this behaviour?

    Kevin,
    Python has some great libraries to do what you are asking in the Unix enviornment:
    To get enviornmental variables:
    ====================
    import os
    # store the env var audit_username in a variable; if it doesn't exist, use 'davew' as the default
    username = os.getenv("audit_username",default='davew')
    To run Unix commands:
    ====================
    import commands
    # run a command from unix (example from Python manual
    commands.getstatusoutput('ls /bin/ls')
