Want my external monitor to view Final Cut Canvas

Just bought an external monitor specifically for clients to view Final Cut on a large screen.
Is there a way (button?) to use as opposed to dragging and enlarging my canvas over to the new monitor every time?
thx.

There may be a way to set your second monitor (you've got it hooked up thru the back of the computer as a second monitor, not just a mirror, yes?
Go to VIEW - VIDEO PLAYBACK... see if there isn't an option for digital playback-MAIN and or another option. MAIN will just put it on your main screen. If there is another option... try that. Then, VIEW - EXTERNAL VIDEO -- ALL FRAMES.
Short of that...
Hold down the OPTION button and click on WINDOW... then set user option 1. Resize your windows across so your canvas is now in the other monitor and make it full size. Resize the other windows as you feel necessary.
You can switch back and forth from those by hitting SHIFT-U and CONTROL-U.
Coupla options anyway.
Good luck,

  • How to import footage to an external hard drive in Final cut pro X

I am having trouble importing footage from camera directly to an external hard drive in final cut pro X. When I go to import the footage, and select where I want it to be saved, my external drive is not even listed. It shows up fine on desktop and in final cut pro 7. I also unchecked the box in FCPX preferences of "copy files to final cut pro folder". Any advice is appreciated.

Nevermind, I hooked up my other external that is formatted Mac OS Extended that is used for time machine and FCPX recognized it fine. I guess I will have to reformat the MS-DOS harddrive to Mac OS extended as well.

    Luis,
Just to clarify one point…in order for Streamclip to convert the MTS I believe a plug-in like the AVCCAM QuickTime importer from Panasonic needs to be installed. (Credit David McClain over at the FCS boards for that info.)

  • How do I view Final Cut in my external monitor

I have a television hooked up by composite cables through an external Firewire device. The instructions told me to click view>video playback>Fire wire NTSC (720*480). Originally it worked, but ever since I turned it off, I can't get it to work any more. What steps am I missing or have I forgotten? Oh Final Cut geniuses, bless me with your knowledge.

    Here's my list:
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Lcd tv as g5 monitor to edit final cut hd

Has anyone bought or used any of the 32"westinghouse lcd tvs with dvi input with the g5 to edit with? I am considering buying one to use as a computer monitor. I currently edit with final cut with 2 screens. The model is the 32 inch- available at bestbuy online to view specs.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Candace

    Hi Candace
You may want to check out this link http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/129823.html
People who have them seem to like them, the only thing I would hesitate on is the max resolution: 1366x766 - I use a the dell 2005fpw running at 1680x1050, and I think if my screen was as big as the Westinghouse, I would want to have a higher resolution to go with it. Remember the Apple Cinema Display 30" can manage 2560x1600, although admittedly it is a bit more expensive

  • Want to install MY copy of Final Cut Studio & change Name & Serials

I want to install my personal copy of FCP onto an iMac I just purchased, but every time I restart it still says old name and old registration number. Tried deleting Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut System ID....but still won't let me change registration info???

    I'm confused.
You did a clean install of Final Cut Pro on a new iMac, and some other name and serial number comes up?
    That's not possible.

  • New iPod Touch-want to load videos created using Final Cut Studio

I'm unable to transfer movies I create on my Mac into the iPod Touch. I'm assuming all transfers to the iPod need to go through iTunes - is this correct?
I created a video in Final Cut Pro, then compressed two versions of podcasts in Compressor.
H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 320x320(QVGA)
H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 640x640(QVGA)
I then dragged them into iTunes library, thinking they would go into the Podcast folder, but instead they went to the Movie folder.
I synced to the iPod, and they fail to transfer/load. I then selected "Create iPod or iPhone Version" from the iTunes "Advanced" menu in case there was some file issue, but was unsuccessful in dragging it to the Podcast folder.
Does the iPod Touch sync up to all iTune's folders, or, is it limited to what's in the Podcast folder?
Is there a utility that exists to verify the video files are of the correct format.
Are there other steps I am missing?

For anyone else in the same situation - videos created in Final Cut Pro and compressed using either of the Compressor settings will create podcasts that can be synced up and play on the iPod Touch,
The problem was the "Sync Movies" setting - it was disabled. The challenge was finding the settings, and wouldn't have been an issue prior to release of version 3.0 software upgrade notice.
The "Sync" settings were where I first looked, from within iTunes, but as I said, the device settings were being hidden by an "Apple commercial" for the version 3.0 software upgrade - once I clicked on "Remind Me Later" I was able to see the 8 tabbed configuration screen. I guess marketing trumps usability.

  • HT4640 I have been developing a keynote presentation & want to play audio across several slides. Also want to insert movies made in final cut X but am finding I have to go to black and double click movie files before they appear. looks awful to do that.

I am new to Keynote and the newest version was just installed in my apps.  I have found difficulty in using audio in a presentation since my presentation plays various audio clips over several slides or movie clips.  My solution has been to create movies with my audio (.mov from final cut x) and insert into the presentation.  They play in the presentation but I cannot get a smooth transition. The presntation must go to black and I have to double click for every "slide" that is done this way.  I am on the verge of going back to powerpoint as my presentation platform. Seems there is little or no flixibility in keynote.

  • Monitor To Support Final Cut Express

Colors on the computer screen are not the same as those that will appear on a TV screen after making a DVD (FCE and iDVD). I want, then, to add a monitor to help me make color, etc. corrections. What in particular should I consider when shopping for a name-brand LCD monitor? Aside from price, of course.
Assume: Size of 22 inches or so and HD videos in the future but not now. (1) Wouldn't 720, instead of 1080, be adequate?
    (2) Will I have to purchase color-correction software?
    (3) Is method of connection, computer to monitor, important?
    (4) What else is important?
    (5) As an aside, why ever buy other than a monitor? If one has a cable box, why pay for a tuner in a TV when a monitor can be plugged into the cable box?

    Hi Dave
    My thoughts - for what's it's worth.
I would (have) choosen to use a CTR-monitor. LCD varies to much.
I've connected Mac -> Camera (miniDV) -> TV-set. This worked for a long time.
Then I've now got a seconhanded 22" JVC referens monitor TM-2100E and
replaced the Camera with a CANOPUS ADVC-300 box.
This gives me a good view to judg outgoing quality.
For further development one might get some color-testing devices. But
this set-up is very up to my needs.

  • External monitor for viewing

    right bit of a dilemma
i have a 20" imac alu 2.4 c2d 4gb ram 320gb hdd and attached is a samsung syncmaster 940bw which i have just bought off the cheap from pcworld UK
what i want to do is use the samsung for viewing the video im editing, i know i can drag the canvis windows= over to the ext monitor but thats not what im looking for i want to use it like they do in pro studios so that it shows me the video with a black background safe zones, TC, etc
is there any settings i need to change or do i need extra kit etc any help and advice will be taken
    kinda regards
    adam

the syncmaster is a computer monitor with VGA inputs and not a PAL video monitor which is what you should have purchsed.
If you have to buy on the cheap, but a flat panel TV with a PAL composite video input and an ability to turn off all the electronic enhancement features.
Best of all buy a JVC preofessional TFT PAL monitor.

  • Viewing Final Cut QT Files in Windows

    Hello,
I have a client who is using Windows and wants to look at all of the files I logged for him. I am using FCP 6.0.4. Is there a codec for QT that will allow him to the view the captured files without having to reconvert things.

He can download QT to view most files. For DVCPRO HD I believe you need FCP to view the files.
Or you can transfer the files to WMF using an app like Flip4Mac. But that could be a pain if you have a lot of files for him.

  • Useful for monitoring HDV in Final Cut Pro?

Here is a new blackmagic card for HD. Seems like this could be a cheaper way to monitor my FCP timeline. I normally edit HDV shows either natively of as AIC compressed. But I have to monitor it through the "desktop cinema preview" feature which doesn't show interlacing. So I don't really see the true picture I'm editing. This new card would seem to allow me to monitor on a modern consumer TV with HDMI input.
To good to be true?? Probably. What does anyone think?
    http://blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
    Paul

It's made for capturing other than HDV directly from camera in a live situation... not tape. Once captured as something else, it can be used to send the HDMI to a consumer HD set. Once on tape though, it's HDV all the way. This thing is an odd duck piece of gear used for special setups.... it's not what you need.
What you need is a Matrox MXO, or capture card that will convert the HDV to uncompressed HD or SD for monitoring...

  • I want to save text presets in Final Cut

every time I search for an answer to my problem all I get is "edit it in motion". I don't have motion.

Once you set up a style for a title/text, in the Text panel of the inspector at the top you should see something like "Normal"... if you click on that label, you'll get a dropdown menu with a lot of preset styles [Do not select any of them before you save YOUR preset!] However, the top 3 selections of that menu allow you to save the text "formatting" as a custom style accessible from that dropdown menu. (I suggest using Save All Basic and Style Attributes). Make sure you do this immediately after setting all the attributes of your text (that includes Face > Color; Drop Shadow params... etc...). I've run into problems with FCPX not properly updating available parameters changing back and forth between titles and/or choosing a preset and attempting to Undo that preset to restore to the previous "condition." So, start with a "fresh" title, make your parameter selections and Save the preset (then test your preset!) [ I actually cannot find any mention of this in the documentation... so its stability is in question - at least to me.] Once you've successfully saved your Preset, it will always be available from that Style menu dropdown.

  • External Drves Not accepting Final Cut Files?

After attempting to save my files in my ext. HD (usb 300 gig) it will not open the file and states file unable to open. when I look in the info tab it shows nothing.
If I change the storage default to the internal drive, it saves it and it can be retrieved just fine. Any idea why it wont save to ext HD? it works ok with the iMovie files just fine?
    Thanks
    Tim

I did designate it as a scrtch drive, but I m thinkin the ext HD should be FW, Thanks for such a quick response.
Something I just tried and worked well, --- I copied from my int HD to the ext HD (FC files) and it worked, but too many stepps, i'm going to get a FW hd , any advice?
    Thanks
